I could have asked this in my project thread but figured this would be worth a discussion of its own. I’ve gotten to the point where I need to paint my engine bay and am wondering what kind of paint to use. Should I use a specialty coating like Eastwood’s “Under Hood Black” or a more generic rattle finish like Krylon Semi-Gloss or Satin Black? My main concern is durability/longevity and the ability to look good, easy to clean and withstand abuse from scratches and hits with wrenches etc. I’m not too worried about it being the 100% correct factory colour, just something that looks good, holds up over time and is easy to spray without running etc. Another factor – I’ll probably also use leftover paint for want to use other components under the hood.
OR – should I get a pint of a certain color from the auto body shop and have my body guy spray it with a gun?
