4th of July Mason Jar Candles
I don’t know about you, but red, white, and blue are quickly popping up throughout our home as I pull out our patriotic decorations.
With the 4th of July fast approaching (can you believe it?!), we have a fun and easy craft to bring some American color into your home and your kids can even help!
Just take a look at these cute 4th of July mason jar candles!
Here’s what you need to get started:
Pint or quart sized mason jars
White long grain rice
Food coloring (I used Wilton True Blue and Red Gel Coloring)
Ziploc bags
Votive candles or tea lights
Instructions:
Pour your rice into a Ziploc bag. Then add your food coloring, zip tight and shake away! Or you can also put the rice and food coloring in a separate mason jar, screw on the lid and let your kids shake away! Dying rice is so easy. Add more food coloring if you’d like your rice to be a darker color.
If you let your kids “shake away” with the Ziploc bags, be prepared for rice to be shaken all over your kitchen.
That didn’t happen to me when I made these.
No, it didn’t.
OK, yes it did.
And I’m an adult.
Once in a while.
I think I had a little too much fun shaking.
Once your rice is ready, start with the red rice and pour the rice into your mason jars. I put about 1/2 to 2/3 cups of rice in the pint glasses and about 1 to 1 1/2 cups in the quart glasses for each layer. It’s all up to you!
Top with a tealight or votive candle and you’re good to go.
It literally took minutes to create, but check out the results!
A big thank you to Today’s Creative Blog for inspiring these 4th of July mason jar candles. We hope you have as much fun making them as I did!
