Can you turn off typing indicator on iPhone?

One great feature of iMessage is that typing bubbles appear when someone you’re texting with is in the process of responding to your text. Not everyone, however, wants to indicate that they’re in the process of whipping up a reply. Unfortunately, there’s no way to turn this feature completely off.

Apple’s iMessage is incredibly popular and is arguably one of the most popular chat applications today. However, since Apple doesn’t provide us with usage details like Facebook and Snapchat, the full scope of iMessage’s popularity remains unclear. What is clear, however, is that iMessage’s seeming ubiquity doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best chatting application available. In fact, there’s no denying that iMessage’s suite of features falls woefully short of features that have been available in apps like WhatsApp and Snapchat for years.

Given that, there aren’t that many iMessage tips and tricks lurking beneath the surface. And while Apple has added some new iMessage features over the past few years, we haven’t seen much progress in transforming iMessage into a top-notch messaging platform. Regardless, there are some iMessage tips that, in case you aren’t already aware, might make the user experience a little more enjoyable.

How to disable iMessage prompt bubbles

Man writes SMS on iPhone

A great feature of iMessage is that tip bubbles appear when someone you’re texting with is in the process of replying to your text. However, not everyone wants to state that they are in the process of crafting an answer. Unfortunately, there is no way to turn off this feature entirely. However, there is a workaround worth mentioning.

If for some reason you don’t want the tip bubbles to appear when texting, just send an iMessage through Siri. This will automatically send the text without the recipient knowing when you started replying.

The story goes on

Another workaround is to type your answer in a separate app, copy and then quickly paste and submit your answer.

Another iPhone SMS trick – Pin a text conversation

One of the best iMessage features has just recently been introduced with iOS 14. With iOS 14, Apple finally offered users the ability to pin text message conversations. This is very handy when you want easy access to an SMS thread that you visit regularly.

To use this feature, first open the Messages app and find the conversation you want to pin. Then long press on the recipient’s name. You’ll then see an option to pin the conversation. You’ll now see this conversation at the top of the Messages app every time you open it.

Can an iPhone user tell if an Android user blocked them?

If an Android user has blocked you, Lavelle says, “your text messages will go through as usual; they just won’t be delivered to the Android user.” It’s the same as an iPhone, but without the “delivered” notification (or lack thereof) to clue you in.

Those dots you see in iMessage are more complicated than you think

There are a few clues that can help you figure it out.

In today’s technology-saturated world, communicating with people can be easier than ever. But it can also be easy to stop someone from communicating with you with a button or two. And if you text someone and still don’t get a reply, you might be wondering if this happened to you. Can you tell if someone has blocked your SMS? Also check out how to know if someone has blocked you on Facebook.

Can you know for sure

We should start by saying that there is no definitive way to tell if you have been blocked; For example, you don’t get a notification or don’t see a notice in that person’s contact information. That would violate the privacy of the other user. But little clues like the lack of a “Delivered” message (on iPhones), as well as what you hear when you call the person, can help you determine if they’ve blocked you. In fact, it’s a lot easier to find out if someone’s blocked your phone number if you have an iPhone, and if the person you’re texting does too.

How to find out if someone has blocked your number on iPhone

There are a few ways to tell if someone has blocked your number. Justin Lavelle, Chief Communications Officer at Been Verified, explains how to tell if someone has blocked your number if you have an iPhone.

Take a look at your SMS app, which will most likely be iMessage. “Most likely when you send a message, you’ll get a ‘delivered’ confirmation if the message was delivered,” he told Reader’s Digest. If you’re looking at your messages with the person you think blocked you, look for that confirmation. “The last message you know was received and replied to should have a status of ‘delivered,'” explains Lavelle. If you don’t see this “delivered” notification among the messages you sent afterwards, it could mean that this person has blocked you.

Another way to find out if someone has blocked your number is to call that person. “If you call a specific number and it goes straight to voicemail, or you get a weird message like ‘temporarily out of service’ or ‘the person isn’t taking calls,’ it could mean your number has been blocked,” says Lavelle . Maybe you’ve done one of those things you shouldn’t do over text.

How to find out if someone has blocked your number on Android

Things are even less clear if you or the person you’re texting has an Android phone. Android phones don’t have this “delivered” message when sending SMS, and even an iPhone user doesn’t see the “delivered” notification when texting an Android user. So how can you tell if someone has blocked your number for texting using an Android phone?

If an Android user has blocked you, says Lavelle, “your text messages will go through as usual; they just aren’t delivered to the Android user.” It’s the same as an iPhone, but without the “delivered” notification (or lack thereof) to let you know. “The easiest way to tell if you’ve been blocked by an Android user is to call,” says Lavelle. Listen like an iPhone until redirected to voicemail, or play a pre-recorded message. Of course, this does not automatically mean that this person has blocked your phone number; Your call may be diverted to voicemail for other reasons. But if it happens repeatedly and you get silence on both calls and texts, you should assume you’ve been blocked. Whether you’re worried about getting blocked or not, you should avoid those annoying texting habits we’re all guilty of.

Can iPhone users see when you screenshot texts?

The short answer is no, it doesn’t. There have been a lot of rumours around iMessage getting screenshot notifications, much like rival app Snapchat. However, the app still hasn’t received the feature, and it doesn’t look likely that it will. The rumours first started with iOS 11’s release.

Does iMessage notify you when you take screenshots?

Apple is great at bringing users into its ecosystem, and iMessage is a big part of the equation. The rich messaging experience that the app offers is far better than what Android users get.

However, because iMessage offers such a rich user experience, it is often compared to other popular messaging apps like Whatsapp, Snapchat, and Messenger.

This article looks at certain privacy features in Apple’s leading messaging app and whether or not it provides screenshot notifications.

Does iMessage give screenshot notifications?

The short answer is no, it doesn’t.

There have been many rumors about iMessage getting screenshot notifications, similar to competing app Snapchat. However, the app hasn’t received the feature yet, and it’s not likely that it will.

The rumors first started with the release of iOS 11. We’ve seen the release of iOS 15 and the feature hasn’t come to fruition yet, and it doesn’t look like it will be any time soon. However, iMessage does have read receipts, and that’s as far as you can decide if someone has seen your message or not.

It’s not that Apple can’t implement the feature. For example, Facetime has notifications when someone takes a screenshot during a call. This function is also restricted. There are screenshot notifications but no screen recording alert.

There are third-party apps on the Apple App Store that claim to give users screenshot notifications for multiple apps including Instagram and iMessage. However, we do not recommend using them as they can compromise your privacy and would not work either.

Can androids see when you like a message?

Android users are now able to see text reactions from iPhones as emojis, instead of the headache of repeated messages. In the past, if an iPhone user reacted to a text message in a chat with Android users, people with Android phones would see the full message sent again with a descriptor of the reaction in front of it.

As of February 1, Android owners using Google’s “Messages” app can now see reactions from iPhone users instead of repeated messages.

Android users can now see text reactions from iPhones as emojis instead of having to deal with repeated messages.

In the past, when an iPhone user reacted to a text message in a chat with Android users, people with Android phones would see the full message resent, with a description of the reaction before it.

In group chats with multiple iPhone users, this would result in multiple messages spamming Android users’ chats.

Beginning February 1, Android users who signed up for the beta version of Google’s Messages app will now see the appropriate emoji attached to the message, similar to how it would appear on an iPhone.

To sign up for the beta, Android users will need to download Google’s Messages app if they don’t already have it, and sign up for the beta, which can be done on the app’s page on the Play Store.

After activation, the app will be updated. Users can then open the app’s settings, click “Advanced” and make sure “Show iPhone reactions as emoji” is checked.

In 2020, Android phones started responding to each other’s messages as new RSC SMS were introduced to replace SMS and MMS SMS.

question

How can I tell if someone has read my text messages on my Samsung Galaxy?

Community Response

If you’re both using Android Messages and have chat features enabled, you should be able to see if it’s marked as read and when they reply. If you’re both using the default Samsung messaging app, use the same carrier, and have your carrier’s “Chat Features” or “Enhanced Messaging” turned on, you can see if they’ve been read and if you respond. If you’re not on the same carrier (until the intra-carrier RCS rolls out), it won’t work through the Samsung app.

How can I see what someone is typing?

The Beam Messenger app shows everything another person is typing in a text message as they type it. This means that if your friend has the app, they could see the keys you press, including corrections and everything you choose not to send.

Those dots you see in iMessage are more complicated than you think

If you’re someone who types an angry text message only to think it over and edit it before hitting send, you could be in trouble.

The Beam Messenger app shows everything that another person is typing into a text message as they type it.

This means that if your friend has the app, they can see the keys you’re pressing, including corrections and anything you don’t want to send.

The California company behind the free Android app claims it’s “a first true real-time communication app of its kind” that more closely mimics the way people chat in person.

For example, people can intervene or comment in real-time without having to wait for the other person to click send.

And if the recipient already knows a story the sender is writing, they can tell it to them so they don’t waste time finishing the text.

Elsewhere, the app also means users can engage in conversations without ever hitting send, making it secure as data is never transmitted and stored on a network.

However, it is not known how the app tracks the inputs and how much it stores on its own servers.

The Toronto-based developers added that there is no delay between typing and the words appearing in the message window.

It calls this “beaming in” and gives users the ability to “interrupt, interject, comment, and the like.”

“While texting in a bubble without breaking, you are allowed to step back and jump forward at will.

“You can also delete all text, which will be removed from both devices in real time.”

An iOS app is coming soon.

A similar app called Ansa, launched earlier this year, allows users to delete messages from other people’s phones.

Ansa works similarly to Snapchat by automatically deleting messages, photos, and videos seconds after viewing them.

However, unlike Snapchat, Ansa also lets users delete messages remotely before they have a chance to read them.

A December Facebook survey found that 70 percent of users regularly write a comment or status before deciding not to post it.

The study found that men are more likely to “self-censor” their posts on social media than women, and this is particularly the case when they have many male friends.

Data scientists, including those at Facebook, can determine that a status or comment has been entered by tracing the code in each page’s HTML form element.

This form element consists of HTML code that controls the fields that Facebook users type in, including the status update field.

Each time characters are entered into one of these fields, researchers can track the changes in the HTML code.

Researchers were also able to track taps in the comments field on statuses, photos, and other posts.

To be clear, Facebook can’t track the exact keys pressed and it doesn’t monitor keystrokes. This means that the code does not reveal what is being entered.

However, Facebook can track when characters and words are entered, how many are entered, and whether the characters entered are deleted or abandoned.

Those dots you see in iMessage are more complicated than you think

Read receipts tell the sender that their message was delivered and read. These notifications appear in the messaging application in some form.

Users who prefer to monitor their messages benefit from read receipts; However, others choose to turn off their read receipts to maintain some anonymity when sending messages.

So how can you tell if someone is turning off their read receipts?

The answer to this question depends on the type of messaging service used. Read on to learn how to use read receipts on a variety of the most popular messaging apps available.

How to tell if someone has their read receipts turned off

Most major messaging platforms have a read receipt feature, but not all make it easy to turn off this feature or see if someone has turned it off on their end.

Here’s how to use read receipts in some of the most popular messaging apps.

iMessage

iMessage enables read receipts by default, but allows users to customize their read receipts. When you send a text message to another iPhone via iMessage, you will see the blue bubble in the chat window. Below that, you’ll see the status as either Sent, Delivered, or Read.

iMessage settings allow users to enable read receipts for specific contacts while leaving them disabled for others. Assuming you only see the word “Delivered” in gray under the message you sent, the recipient has their read receipts turned off.

If the bubble is green, it means the recipient isn’t using an iPhone, which means read receipts won’t work.

(Want to know how to turn your read receipts on or off on iPhone? Check out our tutorial article on read receipt settings for iPhone.)

Messages (Android)

One of the newer features of Android phones is Rich Communication Services (RCS). This feature allows Android users to display read receipts similar to Apple’s iPhone.

Once you have Chat (Google’s own marketing name for RCS), you can finally view typing indicators and read receipts with those who also have RCS enabled on their phone.

Read receipts can be turned off in the chat settings in Messages. If someone has read receipts turned off, the reviews won’t appear in the app.

signal

Signal shows message status by default, although you can disable it if you prefer.

A single tick indicates that the message was received by the Signal server. Two ticks mean it has been delivered to the recipient. When these two ticks turn blue, it means the recipient has read your message.

If the ticks don’t turn blue, you may have read receipts disabled.

Whatsapp

WhatsApp also uses the tick system to show message status. As with Signal, you can also turn off read receipts if you want.

A gray tick means your message has been sent. Two gray ticks mean it has been delivered. Two blue ticks mean the message has been read. You can press and hold the message to see when it’s been read if you really need to.

If the two check marks remain gray, the recipient may have turned off read receipts.

Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger read receipts work similarly to the other messaging apps mentioned. Facebook Messenger uses circles.

A blue circle means your message is being sent. A blue circle with a tick means it was sent successfully. A filled blue circle with a tick means it has been delivered. A profile picture below the message means it has been read.

If you don’t see this profile picture, the recipient may have read receipts turned off.

Facebook doesn’t give users an option to turn off read receipts within the application, but there are workarounds if you want to keep your message reading activity anonymous. Read our article on disabling read receipts in Messenger.

telegram

Telegram also provides read receipts by default and allows you to turn them off if needed. A single green tick means the message was received, while two green ticks mean your message has been read.

If you don’t see that second green tick, the recipient may have read receipts turned off.

Instagram

Instagram DMs have a very basic read receipt system. When your message has been opened; The word “Seen” appears below the message. If you’re chatting with multiple people, an eye icon will appear along with the Instagram name of the person who saw your message.

If you don’t see the “Seen” text or the eye icon, the recipient may have turned off read receipts.

Snapchat

When your message reaches your correspondent’s inbox on Snapchat, the word “Delivered” will appear in the app. Once they’ve actually opened the message, it will say “Opened”.

Snapchat doesn’t allow you to turn off the ability to see if a Snap or message is open. So if you don’t want to use a read receipt platform, don’t use Snapchat.

On the other hand, if you want to communicate with someone who doesn’t like read receipts but has a Snapchat, you’ll know exactly when they opened your message in Snapchat.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn offers users the ability to disable read receipts. Once a message has been read, the recipient’s profile photo will appear below the message. If you don’t see this profile picture, but the person replied, their read receipts have probably been disabled.

Check out our tutorial article on how to tell if someone has read your message on LinkedIn.

Final Thoughts

Read receipts are useful for those who want to make sure they are notified when their messages have been read. They check the delivery and reassure you. They hold you responsible for responding and maintaining dialogue with the other person. Using these notifications can encourage us to nurture relationships with other people and discourage us from becoming hermits and not interacting with others.

However, many users prefer to turn off read receipts to maintain some privacy and take less responsibility when it comes to replying in a timely manner. If you want to check if any of your friends have read receipts turned off or not, just send a message, wait for a reply and see if you get a “seen” notification or not.

Does Android send read receipts?

Similar to the iOS device, Android also comes with read receipts option. In terms of method, it is same as iMessage as sender needs to have same texting app as the recipient whose ‘read receipts’ is enabled on their phone already.

Those dots you see in iMessage are more complicated than you think

Check message status on iOS device

This method works if the message recipient has read receipts enabled and they both need to use iPhone iMessage. Below is the method to enable read receipts from your iPhone.

Step 1: Open Settings in your phone

Step 2: Go to Messages

Step 3: Once you find “Send Read Receipts”, turn on the toggle switch.

This method will not work if the recipient has Android or Windows Mobile.

Check message status on an Android device

Similar to the iOS device, Android also has a read receipt option. In terms of method, it’s the same as iMessage since the sender must have the same SMS app as the recipient whose “Read Receipts” are already enabled on their phone. The process may vary slightly depending on the handset manufacturer. But in general it looks like this:

Step 1: Open the SMS app.

Step 2: Go to Settings -> Text Messages.

Step 3: Turn off read receipts. In addition, you can also turn delivery receipts on or off.

social media apps

When it comes to apps, there are two main mediums we use to communicate with our friends – Facebook and WhatsApp. While there is no way to turn off read receipts on Facebook, there is a way on Whatsapp.

Step 1: Open WhatsApp

Step 2: Go to Settings

Step 3: Go to Account -> Privacy

Step 4: Now turn off read receipts.

Can someone tell if you read their text?

When Read Receipt is turned on, people will be notified when you read the messages they’ve sent you. Vice versa, if it’s turned on on their side, you will be notified when they read your text.

Those dots you see in iMessage are more complicated than you think

People have a love-hate relationship with read receipts. If you’re unfamiliar with them, they’re those little notifications under messages that indicate they’ve been seen or read by the other party.

When read receipts are turned on, people get notified when they read the messages they’ve sent you. Conversely, if it’s turned on on their side, you’ll be notified when they read your text.

It depends how you look at them.

Some people like these notifications because they provide a sense of an immediate and urgent connection with others. Others hate them because they seem pushy.

The common denominator is that read receipts force people to respond as quickly as possible, and it depends on whether you see that as a good or bad thing.

Either way, it definitely has its worthwhile uses for keeping virtual conversations going. Parents can even use read receipts to keep an eye on their kids and have peace of mind that every message sent will be seen and hopefully replied to.

Here are ways to turn read receipts on (or off) so you know if your text messages are showing on iMessage, Android, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger.

iOS iMessage for iPhones, Macs and iPads

Apple gadget users are most likely familiar with iMessage, the default text messaging app for iPhones. Read receipts have always been a feature for iMessage-to-iMessage text messages (denoted by the blue color of the text bubble) and let a sender know if a text message has been read.

(Here’s a fun fact: Green text bubbles in iMessage mean it was sent from non-iPhones and they don’t support read receipts.)

To turn on or off read receipts for all your text messages (which means senders won’t be notified when you read their iMessages), go to Settings >> Messages, then toggle “Send Read Receipts” On or Off.

As of iOS 10, they can also be turned on or off depending on the contact you’re receiving the text message from.

To enable read receipts for a specific sender, launch your Messages app, then open an iMessage thread with the desired contact. Now tap the little “i” icon in the top right corner of the thread, then toggle “Send Read Receipts” On or Off.

Tip Within Tip: Want to save your iPhone text messages instead? Click here to learn how.

Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger has read receipts enabled by default and there is currently no way to turn them off in the app. This means you and your friends will always know if a message has been seen.

According to Facebook’s Help Center, here are the Messenger icons and what they mean:

A blue circle means your message is being sent

A blue circle with a tick means your message has been sent

A filled blue circle with a tick means your message has been delivered

A small version of your friend’s or contact’s photo will appear below the message when they’ve read it

Remember that there are some workarounds to secretly read Facebook Messenger messages without triggering the read receipt.

One is via the same airplane mode trick. Using this method, a recipient can simply turn off a gadget’s Wi-Fi and cellular connection, read all received messages, and then force quit the Messenger app.

iPhone users can also try this trick to read Messenger messages without turning on read receipts. This can be achieved by reading incoming messages through notifications on the lock screen or notification center instead.

Turn this on by going to your iPhone’s Settings >> Notifications >> Select Messenger and then make sure “Allow Notifications” is checked. Next, set the notification style to either Banners or Notifications. To read Facebook Messenger notifications, set your app’s notification style to either Banner or Notifications. To read Messenger messages on the lock screen, toggle Show on Lock Screen to On.

Whatsapp

Facebook’s other messaging property, WhatsApp, also has read receipt notifications. However, unlike Facebook Messenger, this setting can be turned off.

WhatsApp uses check marks for read receipts.

A gray tick means your message was sent successfully.

Two gray ticks mean your message was successfully delivered to the recipient’s phone.

Two blue ticks mean the recipient has read your message (press and hold the message to see the read time).

To turn off WhatsApp read receipts, go to Settings >> Account >> Privacy in the app and turn off “Read Receipts”. Note that this will not disable read receipts for your WhatsApp group chats, nor will it turn off playback receipts for WhatsApp voice messages.

Note: Airplane mode trick also works for WhatsApp read receipts.

Bonus: Android message delivery reports

Currently Android users don’t have iOS iMessage Read Receipt equivalent unless they download third party messaging apps like the ones mentioned above, Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp.

The best thing an android user can do is enable delivery reports in android messages app. This setting only notifies the sender of a text message when a text has been successfully delivered (but cannot determine whether a message has been read or not).

To turn on delivery reports on Android, go to your Messages app, tap the menu icon (the three vertical dots), select Settings >> Text Messages, then toggle delivery reports on or off.

Can iPhone Users See When Android Users are Typing? Everything you Want to Know

Erni joined the team not long ago, but it seems like he’s been here forever. His expert level knowledge and know-how of all things Android is more than impressive. Android Tipster is lucky to have him on an already talented team of writers.

Can iPhone Users See When You Read a Text from Android?

When iPhone users send text messages to Android users, they have no way of knowing whether the message has been read or not. This only works between iPhones using the iMessage app as the feature is only supported between devices using this text messaging application.

Some people hate them, some love them, but no matter what site you belong to, it’s easy to see why read receipts are a thing. You must have been in that situation where you were trying to find out if an Android user read your message. Or you might be an Android user hoping an iPhone user can’t see if you’ve seen their text messages.

Anyhow, I have put together this guide to help iPhone users and Android users to find out the answer to this question: Can iPhone users see when reading a text from Android? Let’s jump in.

Does the iPhone Messages app show read receipts from an Android phone?

To put it simply, the iMessage app only supports showing if someone has read your message from other iPhone users with iMessage. But even in this case, both iPhone users must have read receipts enabled before it works.

If you use an Android device or know someone who does, there is no way for either user to know when the message was read.

The reason for this is simple. iMessage is a proprietary app that uses the internet to take advantage of all the cool features it offers. Meanwhile, regular text messages are sent using the Short Message Service (SMS) protocol, which uses your cellular network instead.

While the iMessage app supports SMS, which is why Android users can send text messages to the app, the SMS protocol doesn’t support all of iMessage’s fancy features. Because of this, they cannot see your read receipts when you send a text message from the Android Messages app.

Can iPhone users see when they type?

Now that you know that an iPhone user can’t see if you read their message from an Android phone, Android users may be wondering if it’s possible to see you typing a text message.

The simple answer to that is, once again, no. It’s for the same reasons as before. iMessage achieves read receipts, typing notifications, message reactions and the like over the internet. Since normal SMS messages are not sent over the Internet, this data cannot be transmitted.

How to know if someone read your message on an Android device?

I clarified the incompatibility between Android devices and iPhones when sending and receiving text messages. However, your next question is probably simple: is there a way for Android users to see when other Android users are reading their text messages?

Well, something like that. If you want to get a read receipt from someone when you send regular text messages via SMS or MMS, that can’t happen. However, if you’re texting from one RCS-enabled device to another, and both devices have read receipts enabled, you can see if someone on an Android phone has read your message.

To enable your phone to send read receipts from its SMS app, follow the steps outlined below. This is the process for Samsung phones, but it shouldn’t be drastically different for other Android models.

Open the “Messages” app. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner. Select settings”. Tap on “More settings”. Select “Multimedia notifications”. Now you will see the option “Show when reading” which allows your device to send read receipts. Turn it on.

Now you can see a read receipt when you send text messages from your SMS app on Android.

What are Rich Communication Services (RCS)?

There doesn’t seem to be any hope on the horizon that Apple could port iMessage to the Android operating system. Actually, I would assume that it will never happen.

The good thing is that as someone loyal to the Android operating system, RCS seems like the hero who’s come to save the day.

RCS stands for Rich Communication Services. It’s a text messaging protocol that offers all the fancy features that apps like iMessage and other third-party messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger have.

It aims to be a replacement for the regular text messaging system that uses the internet to send text messages, similar to iMessage.

While RCS is already well established with an estimated 390 million monthly users, it has yet to be fully adopted. It is estimated that as of early 2020, it was supported by fewer than 90 mobile operators worldwide. The introduction is the main problem with RCS.

Which devices support RCS?

First of all, iOS users should not bother to find out whether their iPhone supports RCS or not. This is not because they have iMessage as an alternative, but because there is currently no iOS device that supports this protocol. Whether Apple will bring support for it in the future is not yet known.

If you’re interested in using RCS, you’ll need an Android device and a messaging app that supports it, e.g. B. the Google Messages application. However, not all Android devices support it, although most Androids do.

First of all, the phone must run on Android version 5.0 and above. RCS just doesn’t work on lower versions. Additionally, not all wireless carriers offer RCS support. Even if your phone works with it, you can’t use it.

The good thing is that it’s nice to find out whether or not your phone supports this chat protocol. You can do this by installing Google Messages.

Follow these steps to check for RCS support on your phone:

Download and install Google Messages from the Google Play Store. You can get it from here. After the installation, start “Messages”. You will see three dots at the top right. Tap on it to open the options. Tap on “Settings”. Select “General” from the new menu. Now tap on “Chat Features”. If you’re using an Android phone that supports Rich Communication Services, you’ll see an option to enable chat features. However, if your phone doesn’t support it, then this option will not be available in this SMS app.

Note that Google Messages isn’t the only SMS app that supports RCS. You can also access RCS features through the default Messages application on Samsung Galaxy devices.

What are some of the features of RCS?

RCS offers a lot of cool features that you would find in a messaging app like iMessage. Here are just some of the features you can use when sending text messages.

Send high-resolution images and videos

File Transfers

Allows group conversations

Supports voice calls

Supports video calls

Sharing location information

chatbots

What is the best app for text messaging on Android and iOS?

Since there is no way for an iPhone user and an Android user to send each other text messages using their native text messaging apps, they have to use third-party apps.

I’m going to show you some of the best apps that you can use to send text messages between an Android user and an iPhone user.

Whatsapp

WhatsApp is by far the most popular texting application in the world that nothing can match. With 2 billion monthly active users, it’s clear that people love this application. It even comes pre-installed on some devices.

WhatsApp is constantly being updated and adding new features, but it goes beyond just texting.

For example, it has end-to-end encryption that prevents anyone from spying on your messages. Although there used to be a $1 fee, it’s now completely free.

You can make voice and video calls, share different media, send disappearing photos and videos, and even delete texts and media after sending. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, too.

Get it on Android and iOS.

Facebook Messenger

Facebook, now known as Meta, owns both WhatsApp and Messenger. While that may seem strange, one of the main reasons Facebook might have done this was to protect WhatsApp from stealing all of its thunder. Well, it seems to have worked, because Messenger is still around and is going strong.

This can be used to manage your text messages (SMS) along with instant messages, allowing them to be placed in one easily accessible place.

In addition, it has all the basics like voice and video calls, customizable themes and interfaces, emojis, and so on. Some other cool things are the ability to respond to comments and play games against your friends.

If you are an iPhone user, you can download it here, while Android users can go to the Google Play Store.

telegram

One of the most feature-rich text messaging apps in the world is certainly Telegram. It’s always been in the shadow of WhatsApp, but more and more people have jumped on it and discovered the awesome things it can do.

For example, you can have more than one profile picture, which is great if you can’t choose between a few photos you love.

You can also use “secret chats” if you need end-to-end encryption and extra security. You can even set text messages to be automatically deleted.

The available chatbots are another super cool thing to take advantage of. All of this makes it look a lot better than its competitors out there, but it has yet to gain the massive footing that Facebook’s offerings have.

You can get it for Android and iOS.

WeChat

While not that big in the rest of the world, WeChat in China is gigantic with over a billion active users every month.

The application has evolved into a platform that only sends messages from any operating system. It is also used for social media purposes and real life payments.

This doesn’t mean it skimps when it comes to the message part of things. It can be used for voice and video calls, media sharing, and more. It even has TRUSTe certification for its privacy standards, giving you peace of mind.

You can download it for Android and iPhone.

last words

There is no way for an iPhone user to know whether an Android smartphone user has read their message or not. Only other iPhone users can send read receipts to an Apple iPhone via iMessage.

This is simply because, unlike SMS or MMS, Apple iMessage uses a proprietary internet-based protocol. However, the increasing adoption of rich communication services should hopefully bring more versatility to people using the SMS app on Android.

Did this article tell you everything you wanted to know about whether an iPhone user can see if their message has been read or not? If so, read our related articles.

Those dots you see in iMessage are more complicated than you think

IF YOU USE Apple’s iMessage, you’re familiar with the “typing recognition indicator” – the three dots that appear on your screen to let you know when someone is typing at the other end of your text.

At least that’s what you thought.

In fact, the bubble doesn’t always appear when someone types, or disappear when someone stops typing.

advertisement

It’s a little more complicated than that.

For example, the speech bubble won’t appear if you haven’t texted the person texting you for a while.

This makes sense, of course, because you’re unlikely to be looking at the text message thread of someone who hasn’t texted you in a long time.

However, once this conversation has started, the bubble gets going:

And the ad doesn’t always disappear when someone stops typing.

#Open Journalism No news is bad news. Support The Journal Your contributions help us continue to deliver the stories you care about. Support us now

Last year, Slate ran a series of tests to find out exactly how the points work. It turns out that the bubbles persist when you start typing, but stop before the text is sent (rather than erasing what you’ve typed). The other person might think you’re typing, but you might just have typed some text and then decided not to send it.

The ad does not disappear until 60 seconds after you start the text.

We tested this – even if you stop typing, exit iMessage, or lock your phone, the dots keep dancing on the other person’s screen. If you return to this text and start typing, the bubbles will not appear on the other screen.
