You can forget about wearing lipstick. Colored lip-gloss, as well as lipsticks, show up on your clear aligners. And while you could certainly use clear lip-gloss and lip balms, they do leave an annoying waxy residue behind. In the end, it’s better to just stick to a no lip color policy. They definitely don’t stop people going in for a kiss! Invisalign’s smooth aligners are designed to fit super-close to your teeth, so you don’t have to worry about your aligners dislodging or getting in the way of that perfect kiss. It’s important to understand that since Invisalign is not a cosmetic lip treatment, it will not increase the size of your lips. However, while you are undergoing Invisalign treatment, you may find that your lips appear bigger. This is because your lips will be lying on top of an appliance and look fuller as a result.

It’s important to understand that since Invisalign is not a cosmetic lip treatment, it will not make your lips bigger. However, while undergoing Invisalign treatment, you may notice that your lips appear larger. This is because your lips are resting on an appliance, making them look fuller.
While Invisalign cannot enlarge your lips, it can help you achieve the straight teeth and attractive smile you’ve always dreamed of. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign aligners are incredibly comfortable and can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing. You can also remove them to play a sport or musical instrument. As long as you wear your aligners for at least 22 hours every day, you can achieve great results.
If you desire fuller lips, you can always consider cosmetic lip treatment after completing your Invisalign treatment. There are lip fillers and lip surgeries that can add volume to your lips and look great with your newly straightened teeth. Consult a plastic surgeon for more information about lip augmentation treatments.

Can you eat chips with braces?
Depending on the variety, you can eat chips with clips. Because really hard foods can damage your device, avoid chips that are really hard like Doritos and corn chips during treatment. Chips that are easy to chew, like certain baked chips or alternatives like cheese puffs, can be eaten with braces. Eat one chip at a time, using smaller chips instead of large ones whenever possible so you don’t accidentally break a brace or damage a wire.
One thing to note: Because chips are starchy and the bacteria in your mouth feed on starches and sugars, which can lead to tooth decay, you should eat chips in moderation. If you develop tooth decay during your braces treatment, your treatment may take longer, and in extreme cases you may need to have your braces removed to have the tooth decay treated. Be sure to brush your teeth thoroughly after enjoying!
Can you drink coffee with clear braces?
Yes! You can drink coffee with clear braces. The clear braces we use at Hawley Orthodontics are durable and stain resistant. Can you drink coffee with Invisalign?
You can have coffee with Invisalign as long as you take out your aligners first. It’s super soft and cool enough to numb your mouth a bit.
Can you chew gum with braces?
no Unfortunately, you can’t chew gum with braces. At Hawley Orthodontics, we use self-ligating braces, which have a door that opens and closes to insert the wire. The sticky gum can open the doors on the braces. Believe us, your amazing new smile will be worth giving up chewing gum for a while!
Can you chew gum with Invisalign?
While Invisalign allows you to chew gum, first take out your aligners and opt for sugar-free gum. Sugar-filled gum can cause tooth decay, and nobody wants tooth decay when they’ve invested in straight teeth and a healthy smile! While sugarless gum isn’t as sticky as regular gum, it still tends to stick to aligners. Plus, you’re also subjecting your aligners to constant chewing forces while enjoying your gum. This could potentially affect or damage your aligners.

What can you eat with Invisalign?
Since the clear aligners are removable, there are no food restrictions with Invisalign. You can eat and drink whatever you want during the treatment. The caveat? Take out your Invisalign aligners before eating or drinking anything other than plain water.
The aligners fit your teeth snugly and saliva cannot freely flow underneath to wash away any remaining debris or residue from your food or drink. This means that eating or drinking with Invisalign aligners will cause the food or drink to stay on your teeth longer, increasing the risk of tooth decay and discoloration of your teeth and/or Invisalign aligners.
With that in mind, you should also brush your teeth before putting your aligners back in after eating and drinking. This will ensure your teeth are clean and your aligners will not pinch anything underneath.
Can you eat chocolate with braces?

What are the best soft foods for braces if your teeth are sensitive?
What to eat in the first week with braces or after adjustments, if your teeth feel a little sore, go for soft foods and cold foods and drinks. Some of the best soft foods for braces are soup, yogurt, ice cream, smoothies, Jell-O, applesauce, scrambled eggs, peanut butter, mashed potatoes, popsicles and fudgesicles, ice water, ripe bananas, macaroni and cheese, and protein shakes. Pro tip: stock up on braces-friendly foods before you put on your braces so you’ll have plenty to eat from the start. When you feel ready to get back to your regular diet, you can still eat most of the foods you love, with a few exceptions.
Even though there are no Invisalign food restrictions, your teeth can be sensitive when you start your Invisalign treatment and sometimes after inserting a new set of aligners. Choosing soft foods that require minimal chewing will help with adjustment.
What foods can’t you eat with braces?
Foods to avoid with braces are anything that’s really hard, chewy, or sticky that can damage your device. Cones, candies, caramel, toffee, toffee, hard taco shells, whole, raw apples and carrots, hard pizza crust, hard buns, starburst, and nuts are some examples of these types of foods.
Are there special techniques when eating with braces?
How you eat with braces is just as important as what you eat with braces. Break or cut food into small, bite-sized pieces and chew with molars. Never tear at food with your front teeth. Remove corn from the cob, remove meat from the bone, and cut things like raw apples into small, thin slices before eating.

Is 20 hours enough for Invisalign?
The process works because each new tray is straighter than the preceding tray. The aligner trays are only effective during the time they are in physical contact with teeth. This is why Invisalign recommends that the trays are worn for at least 20 to 22 hours per day.

When you’re ready to correct misaligned teeth, contact Dr. Lee and our Grant Park dental team. dr Lee can explain the treatment process to you in detail before you order your first splint set. Once patients undergo treatment, they must adhere to the 20-22 hour compliance rule. Read on for more details.
Why the 22-hour compliance rule is important
Invisalign aligners gently move teeth into better alignment through micro-movements. The small layers are spread over several months or more, so patients experience minimal discomfort throughout the treatment. The process works because each new tray is straighter than the previous tray. The aligners are only effective during the time they are in contact with the teeth. For this reason, Invisalign recommends wearing the splints for at least 20 to 22 hours a day.
The shells are designed on the assumption that patients will comply with this rule. Failure to follow this rule can result in complications, discomfort or even delays in treatment.
What could happen if I don’t follow the compliance rule?
Failure to wear the splints 20 to 22 hours a day can result in complications that Dr. Lee finds it difficult to correct. These complications include:
Delayed results: In the short term, not wearing the splints can lead to discomfort. If you don’t follow the Rule of 20 for too long, you may not be able to enjoy the cosmetic results you’ve been working towards by the deadline. When you receive your first set of splints at our Atlanta office, Dr. Lee with what your treatment schedule will be (typically 12 to 18 months). If your teeth aren’t moving enough due to not following the 20-22 hour rule, you may be asked to wear your current splints longer. If your teeth have fallen back too far, you may need to have a whole new set of splints made.

You will feel pressure on certain teeth. Although this pressure can cause some discomfort, it’s important to keep your splints in for at least 20 hours a day. You can take out your clear aligners to eat, drink or take photos. If you remove the splints for a long period of time, your teeth can easily return to their original position. This is not usually seen, but you will experience moderate discomfort or even pain when putting your new splint back on after a long break. To avoid this situation, follow the 20-22 hour compliance rule.

Does Invisalign give you a lisp?
You may notice a slight lisp when you first wear your Invisalign aligners, but it is typically only obvious to you, is usually temporary and, if it persists, can easily be corrected.
Dating with Invisalign®
Wearing an orthodontic appliance may affect your speech, but Invisalign is not likely to cause a speech impediment or a lisp.
You may notice a slight lisp when you first wear your Invisalign aligners, but it’s usually only visible to you, is usually temporary, and if it persists, it’s easily corrected.
Adjustment to Invisalign
Your mouth and tongue will need to learn to make sounds while wearing your new clear aligners, but this adjustment period is temporary.
Once you get used to wearing the aligners, any initial speech impediments should go away on their own.
Speech impediments and lisping can be caused by Invisalign trays not fitting properly on your teeth. If you think this might be the case, see your dentist to make sure your aligners are in place!
Correcting a persistent lisp
If you find that your Invisalign aligners seem to cause a slight lisp that doesn’t go away naturally, you can correct it by simply practicing the pronunciation of words while wearing your aligners.
Reading aloud to yourself or talking to family and friends will help you overcome a lisp and become more comfortable talking with your aligners.

Why are my lips so dry with Invisalign?
Although there are many benefits to Invisalign, some patients do experience some issues. One of these issues is chapped lips. If this happens to you, your saliva is likely getting stuck in your aligners. When this occurs, your saliva cannot lubricate your mouth and lips properly.
Dating with Invisalign®
With Invisalign, you don’t have to worry about metal wires or brackets that can cause pain and irritation in your mouth. Invisalign aligners are incredibly comfortable and can give you the opportunity to achieve a movie star smile in a year or less.
Although Invisalign offers many benefits, some patients experience some problems. One of those problems is chapped lips. If this happens to you, your saliva is likely getting stuck in your aligners. When this occurs, your saliva cannot properly lubricate your mouth and lips. Luckily, Invisalign chapped lips can be resolved by often using a quality lip balm. Drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated can also help.
Another thing that has become common under stress is rubbing the lips together or pressing the lips above or below the opposite lip. If you have facial hair and it’s a nervous tic, you’ll find that your lips are a lot drier. The dryness will cause them to become brittle.
At our orthodontic office in Crestview, Florida, during times of stress we receive increasing reports of such as: B. A policy for protection at home. During these stressful times, do your best not to create jittery tics that drain moisture from your lips and/or mouth.
If you notice chapped lips from Invisalign and find that regular use of lipstick and drinking water does not help, we recommend that you contact Sims Orthodontics, the best orthodontic practice for children and adults. We check the fit of your Invisalign aligners in your mouth and solve any problems.

How long do 20 Invisalign trays take?
As your doctor told you: A general rule is 2 weeks for each set of trays. If all goes well and you don’t need any additional refinements along the way, your case should be complete in approximately 30 weeks, or 8 months. Of course, a lot depends on your wearing them religiously at least 22 hours/day.

Does your face shape change after Invisalign?
It depends. Using braces or Invisalign to adjust the alignment of your teeth means that the soft tissues laying over them — like your cheeks and lips — will conform to the new alignment of your bite. That’s why a person’s face sometimes looks “sunken in” when they lose teeth.
Dating with Invisalign®
This is a frequently asked question, as is: Does Invisalign change the shape of your face?
It depends on.
Using braces or Invisalign to adjust the alignment of your teeth means that the overlying soft tissues — like your cheeks and lips — will adjust to the new alignment of your bite. This is why a person’s face sometimes looks “sunk” when they lose teeth. With braces, your face shape changes gradually. It is less obvious in adults, whose skeletal features are already fully developed.
During your orthodontic consultation, our Ottawa orthodontist, Dr. Charles Cohen, determine which areas, if any, might change once your teeth are properly aligned. In this way, dr. Cohen will give you an individually tailored answer to the question “do braces change the shape of your face”.
Do braces change the shape of your nose or make it bigger?
Some people want to know specific details such as B. “Do braces change the shape of your nose?”
No they don’t. Although braces can adjust the width of your upper jaw, they don’t reach into the structures that affect the shape and size of your nose.
However, if braces adjust your upper teeth and jaw enough to change the shape of your profile in that area, it could potentially make your nose appear to look slightly different, especially from the side.
For example, if the lips are brought more outward or inward, your entire face profile will be adjusted right next to your nose. As a side effect, it can create the illusion that your nose is changing shape.
Do braces make your nose bigger? No, but if they pull your upper teeth back a lot, the completed treatment might give the impression that your nose is more prominent than before. However, braces alone will not make your nose bigger.
Do braces change your lips and make them look bigger?
Yes, braces can change the position of your lips, but only to the extent that the teeth immediately behind change. It has nothing to do with braces changing your lips in terms of fullness or shape.
For example, if you have an underbite and we align your upper and lower front teeth properly, it can create the appearance of a fuller upper lip. If you have upper teeth that pop out and we bring them back a few millimeters it will also allow your lip to fall back a bit.
Your lips are a protective barrier over your smile. If you get hit in the mouth, they protect you from broken teeth. A treatment like Invisalign or traditional braces will only change the “base” on which your lips rest.
Side note: If you wear traditional braces with a bracket-and-wire system, you may temporarily notice that your lips look bigger. This is due to the extra width created between your teeth and lips. It’s not that your lips are bigger, but they may not be that far back on your teeth until the braces finally come off.
Do braces change your jawline?
if dr Cohen uses interceptive orthodontics (growth-modifying treatments, also known as orthopedics) on younger patients, then it’s possible that braces and other appliances can adjust the shape and size of your jaw.
But can braces alone transform your jaw when you grow up?
Little. The only way to significantly change your jawline as an adult would be through surgery. Such medical interventions are usually quite complex and are carried out in close cooperation between Dr. Cohen and an oral surgeon.
Will Invisalign change the shape of your face, nose, lips or jawline?
Invisalign may also change the position of your lips. But with Invisalign, there isn’t even a “buffer” between your teeth and your lips. So you won’t see any major changes in your lip size or profile throughout the process. However, Invisalign still has the ability to align your upper teeth, which can have a secondary impact on the appearance and side profile of your lips.
Because the clear aligners appear to have the least impact on your appearance and daily activities, most of our patients prefer them over traditional braces.

Does Invisalign give you a better jawline?
Yes, Invisalign can improve your jawline. It may take a little while longer to see results, but the same rules apply to traditional braces. An uneven jawline can be uncomfortable and cause serious pain.
Dating with Invisalign®
Invisalign helps realign your teeth in the same way traditional metal braces do. And while the Invisalign process is relatively the same, some people will be concerned that Invisalign can’t do as much as braces. With braces, you can have your jaw or overbite corrected with rubber bands; a tactic clearly unavailable with clear aligners.
At Big Smile Dental we make sure our patients have all the information they need up front and in the middle. So… will Invisalign improve your jawline?
You’ll be surprised how much it can do.
Will Invisalign improve my jawline?
Let’s get down to business… yes! Yes, Invisalign can improve your jawline. It may take a little longer to see results, but the same rules apply to traditional braces. An uneven jaw line can be uncomfortable and cause serious pain. Since your teeth alignment can be the cause of this pain, correcting your teeth alignment with Invisalign will ultimately relieve this pain and improve your jawline.
Keep in mind that Invisalign cannot improve your jaw line if the problem is more severe. Every patient is different, but I can usually recommend Invisalign to patients who want a perfect smile and a feeling of ease when it comes to delicate jaw areas.

What else can Invisalign do?
Most people focus on the cosmetic solutions that Invisalign offers, but it does so much more than that! Invisalign can help with overbites, underbites, and even crossbites. By realigning your teeth, you can help relieve symptoms associated with TMJ, such as earaches and headaches.
Disproportionate teeth also put stress on your jaw. You can usually feel it at the corners of your mouth, just below your ears. This problem can lead to teeth grinding and even neck pain.
Jaw correction with Invisalign is like putting oil on the tin man’s mouth; it loosens the grip to make your bite looser and more comfortable. After your full Invisalign session, your jaw will feel a sense of relief you haven’t felt in years!

Invisalign or “invisible braces” is a common treatment used to straighten teeth more conveniently and discreetly, and to provide an alternative to traditional metal braces. Although Invisalign has been around for a while, we still find patients asking common questions about it.
And as with all new treatments, they are surrounded by various questions about exactly what they can and cannot do. We’ve put together an Invisalign FAQ to answer just that.
Frequently asked questions about Invisalign gaps and crowding
Invisalign can be a great way to straighten your teeth without the agony of tightening wires, rubber bands, and the visual alteration. Offers a more comfortable, subtle alternative to standard braces with a number of benefits.
If you’re still debating whether braces or Invisalign are better, or have already decided to try Invisalign, we have a wealth of information for you to access.
We’ve found our patients ask common questions about gaps and crowding with Invisalign and how it compares to traditional braces. Our Invisalign FAQ covers exactly what Invisalign can and can’t do in terms of moving your teeth.
Can Invisalign shift or change your jawline?
Yes, Invisalign can move and reshape your jaw. Depending on the extent to which your jaw needs to be moved, your dentist may want to position your jaw before you undergo any treatment.
However, attachments and gum markers can be used next to your Invisalign to help align the teeth and jaw to ensure a healthy bite.
Can Invisalign fix crowding?
Yes, Invisalign can fix crowded teeth. Tight teeth can be caused by numerous factors, early loss of baby teeth, abnormally shaped teeth, a cleft lip or palate. Invisalign can fix these problems by applying constant, gentle pressure to align them properly.
In the case of severely crowded teeth, additional treatment may be necessary, e.g. B. the removal of problematic teeth. Invisalign can help align crowded teeth by moving each tooth up 0.2mm with each new aligner – creating more room in your mouth because your teeth are correctly aligned.
Can Invisalign fill gaps?
Yes, Invisalign can fill gaps. Gaps are gaps between two or more teeth that result in gaps between teeth. This can cause numerous problems, e.g. B. Food getting stuck between your teeth, possibly even contributing to gum disease.
Invisalign is one of the fastest ways to close gaps in your teeth, but every mouth is different and can vary in length. Invisalign moves your teeth approximately 0.2mm per new set of aligners.
It is important that in severe cases, the aligners are worn for some time after treatment to ensure that the gaps do not form again.
Can Invisalign move molars?
Yes, Invisalign can move molars. Molar teeth are unwieldy in the sense that they are quite awkward to move or straighten, even with traditional braces, and are known to be the cause of much pain.
Invisalign moves the molars like any other teeth, however the length of time it takes to move/straighten them depends on the severity of the molars. It can sometimes take multiple trays to see molar movement.
Can Invisalign correct your bite?
Correcting your bite is a major reason people invest in braces and Invisalign as it can cause numerous problems such as: B. damage to your gums and other teeth, changes in appearance and pain when chewing.
That being said, Invisalign can correct your bite.
Can Invisalign Braces Fix an Overbite?
Yes, Invisalign can correct an overbite. Overbites are one of the most common dental problems that occur and Invisalign can definitely fix them.
Depending on your age, there are different ways to correct an overbite:
While still growing (around age 12), with the right type of Invisalign appliance, it is possible to redirect a patient’s tooth growth to affect jaw position and bite. This is done through an application called Invisalign Mandibular Advancement.
Adults can no longer use the above device and instead rely on other means. Depending on the severity, Invisalign alone can fix an overbite, while more severe cases require additional funds. Elastic bands or a small bar called an exercise device are used to treat tougher cases.
Ultimately, the answer is yes, Invisalign can be used to treat overbites.
Can Invisalign Braces Fix an Underbite?
Yes, Invisalign can correct an underbite. Underbites can become quite a problem if left untreated as they can contribute to faster tooth decay, poor oral hygiene and more.
An underbite is when your teeth are misaligned and your bottom teeth appear in front of your top teeth.
Invisalign can be used to correct underbites, however more severe cases may require additional treatment such as B. surgery to move your jaw or elastic bands and wires.
Can Invisalign damage teeth?
Yes, Invisalign can damage your teeth, but this is most likely to happen if the correct instructions regarding your invisible braces are not followed.
Invisalign isn’t painless, it’s quite common for your teeth to feel sore and uncomfortable – especially after a new braced set of teeth. Even so, this should not harm your teeth.
It is possible for your teeth to be damaged by mishandling your aligners, e.g. B. by drinking liquids that are not water. Other liquids like fizzy drinks and fruit juices can get stuck under your aligner and damage your teeth.
Invisalign causes a cellular response in the roots of teeth to allow them to move. In very rare cases, this can lead to damage to the ends of the teeth.
Can Invisalign bring teeth forward?
Yes, Invisalign can be used to bring teeth forward and backward. Invisalign can be used to move your bottom teeth back so they sit behind your front teeth and conversely, they can be used to move your top teeth forward so they sit in front of your bottom teeth.
While some protrusion, overbite/underbite issues may require additional treatment such as B. rubber bands or the use of other braces, Invisalign can be used to bring the teeth forward.
Can Invisalign fix very crooked teeth?
Yes, Invisalign can be used to correct very crooked teeth. In some cases, a different type of brace or additional treatment may be required (but more often than not, this is due to severe jaw misalignment).
Invisalign can be used to make even the most crooked teeth look perfect given the right conditions, time and consistency.
More frequently asked questions about Invisalign
Most of the Invisalign treatment has to do with aligning the teeth and fixing any crowding or gaps in the mouth. But our patients have also asked common questions about the daily routines of wearing and cleaning their Invisalign.
Please read our other Invisalign FAQs which answer more general questions.
Can Invisalign only be worn at night?
No, Invisalign cannot only be worn at night. In fact, Invisalign should be worn almost all the time and only removed to eat, drink, brush and floss.
As a guide, you should wear your Invisalign between 20 and 22 hours a day, the longer the better. Otherwise, the benefits of carrying may slowly wear off and movements may regress.
Can Invisalign trays be used to whiten teeth?
No, it is strongly discouraged to use Invisalign trays for teeth whitening. Although this has not been tested, it may give poor results or be unsafe.
Can Invisalign be used for a night watchman?
Yes and no, depending on the severity.
If you grind your teeth badly and therefore need a night guard, you are most likely not an option for Invisalign treatment. This is because Invisalign relies on you wearing your aligners while you sleep, which when you need a night watchman simply isn’t possible.
If you grind your teeth only lightly, it’s possible that your Invisalign is acting as a cushion between your teeth when you grind. However, grinding and clenching can quickly wear out your Invisalign or worse, break it.
This would need to be discussed on a case by case basis with your orthodontist where they will look at your situation and requirements and see if you qualify.
Does Invisalign hurt?
Yes, Invisalign can hurt. For most patients, Invisalign offers a less painful, discreet, and more comfortable experience compared to traditional braces.
But for some patients, Invisalign can be painful, especially at the beginning of each new brace. This pain usually subsides in a few days after your teeth adjust.
Does Invisalign Affect Speech?
Invisalign should not interfere with speech. While it’s unlikely to cause changes to your language, it’s possible. Then your tongue should soon get used to the splint in your mouth and relax.
What’s the first step to smiling more confidently?
The first step to becoming more confident about your smile is making an appointment with your dentist. Whether you are based in Sheffield, Rotherham or Doncaster, to book an appointment and find out more about our cosmetic dentistry options call us on 01709 917666.

This time we’re going to look at foods to avoid with Invisalign and braces. Don’t worry; You will eat all your favorite foods again after the treatment is complete. Today you can get results faster and more conveniently than ever before. In the end, it’s worth the temporary inconvenience of paying attention to what you eat to maintain a perfect smile for life!
When you wear braces, the list of foods to avoid is longer. Why? Braces do not come off like Invisalign. So you can’t take them out while you’re eating or brushing your teeth. Therefore, hard, crunchy, sticky, and chewy foods can damage braces.
However, some foods are best avoided with Invisalign and braces. This is especially true today as we deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. Today, maintaining your oral health is more important than ever. So let’s look at some general rules to follow.
Learn more about foods to avoid with braces here.
Foods to avoid with Invisalign and braces
As previously mentioned, it’s a good idea to avoid foods that:
Tough
Crisp
Sticky
Difficult
Following this simple rule is always a good idea when it comes to braces. Plus, it’s a good thing to remember about Invisalign. Although aligners are coming out, these types of foods can coat your teeth, wearing down enamel and promoting tooth decay.

With that in mind, here are foods to avoid with Invisalign and braces:
caramels
chewing gum
Jawbreakers (generally best avoided)
gummy bear
liquorice
nuts
Popcorn
Sour Candy
Mammal
starbursts
toffee
If you ingest any of these, rinse, brush, and then floss. However, be aware that these foods can damage braces, often requiring an emergency visit for correction.
Solutions for your sweet tooth
If you love sweets, you don’t have to do without them entirely. However, it’s best to limit them and only stick to very soft treats.
3 musketeers
Cake (soft without toppings)
Chocolate (no caramel or nuts)
Cookies
KitKats
Marshmallows
Peanut Butter Cup
So you can still satisfy your cravings for sweets. Just be sure to cleanse well after consuming snacks and desserts like these.

Avoid sugary drinks with Invisalign and braces
As you’d probably expect, it’s a good idea to avoid sugary drinks when wearing Invisalign. This is especially true if you wear them as they can seep around the aligners and discolor them. (as well as your teeth)
As we know, sodas promote tooth decay, and that includes diet drinks.
Therefore, it’s a good idea to avoid or limit the following:
acidic liquids
energy and sports drinks
water with taste
fruit drinks
Lemonades, including diet
Watch out for hot drinks
Also, hot drinks can deform aligners, so never drink hot tea or coffee while your aligners are in place. What’s left to drink while your aligners are in place? If possible, try to stay in clear water.
Hot beverages are not likely to warp the braces but may discolor them, especially the clear braces.
Foods and drinks that discolor Invisalign and braces
As we’ve seen, it’s best to avoid sugary drinks and hot drinks when wearing aligners. Also, some drinks and foods can stain aligners and braces. As such, there are a few more items to avoid if you can.
Foods and drinks that stain:
balsamic vinegar
Beer
beets
Berry
Coffee
currants
curry
food coloring (not all)
grape juice
Mustard
tea
tomatoes
red wine
soy sauce
Food staining can be a bigger problem with clear braces, although they are resistant to staining. In general, with Invisalign, you have more freedom to enjoy what you enjoy as long as your aligners are out.

What can you not eat with Invisalign attachments?
Biting down on hard foods can damage your Invisalign attachments or pop them out of place, which will require a visit to the orthodontist. Try to steer clear of hard candy, nuts, caramel, gum, ice, and similarly tough foods while wearing Invisalign attachments.

To help you prepare for your treatment, we’ve compiled 4 top Invisalign tips on eating and drinking.
1. Rinse your clear aligners after eating or drinking.
Eating or drinking anything other than water will temporarily remove your clear aligners. (If you remove your aligners, you’re free to eat and drink whatever you want!)
Before putting your Invisalign back in your mouth, we recommend rinsing your aligners with lukewarm water to prevent bacteria build-up. Sugar and debris from food and drink (other than water) can build up in your aligners and allow bacteria to thrive. This buildup can lead to discoloration, smelly aligners, bad breath, tooth decay and even gum disease! Make sure to keep your treatment hygienic by making it a habit to rinse your aligners after every meal or snack.
2. Carry a travel toothbrush and floss.
During your orthodontic treatment, after you’ve eaten a meal or snack and rinsed your clear aligners with water, it’s a good idea to rinse your teeth as well. Swirl some water or travel mouthwash around in your mouth and quickly brush your teeth to remove food particles.
Putting your aligners back in your mouth while having food between your teeth can increase your chances of developing tooth decay or gum disease. Your aligners act as a barrier, keeping debris and particles in place and encouraging bacterial growth.
Always take a travel toothbrush and a pack of dental floss with you when you leave home. You never know when those pesky foods will find their way into the crevices of your mouth!
3. Always put your Invisalign aligners in their case when removing them.
Whatever you do, don’t put your clear aligners on a plate or napkin when removing them to eat or drink. As Invisalign is clear, if you place your aligners anywhere other than in your Invisalign case (especially in a napkin), you could end up throwing them in the trash!
Bonus tip: If you’re heading to a group dinner or public outing and know you need to remove your clear aligners, consider removing them before you come to the table. Sometimes your clear aligners spill some saliva or drool, so you may prefer to remove them before you dine out with Invisalign.
4. Avoid damaging food with Invisalign attachments.
When eating with Invisalign attachments, we advise you to avoid exceptionally hard, sticky or crunchy foods. Biting on hard foods can damage or dislodge your Invisalign tips, necessitating a visit to the orthodontist.
Avoid candy, nuts, caramel, chewing gum, ice cream and similar hard foods while wearing Invisalign attachments.
We often get questions from Invisalign patients like “Can I eat ice cream with Invisalign” or “Can I drink through a straw with Invisalign?” Sugary foods like ice cream should not be consumed with Invisalign. While drinking through a straw might seem like a solution to drinking with Invisalign, it’s not a good idea. Any sugar stuck to your aligners can cause bacterial buildup which can lead to tooth decay, bad breath, discolored aligners, gum disease and more!
If you are unsure about a particular food or drink, it is best to remove your clear aligners while eating or drinking to avoid damaging them.

Can you eat anything with Invisalign in?

The rules of eating and drinking with Invisalign
With braces, there is a list of foods to avoid during treatment such as: E.g. chewy candy, apples and popcorn.
This makes Invisalign all the more appealing because you can eat whatever you want.
Sounds too good to be true?
you are not wrong There’s a catch!
Below is a list of questions and answers about what you can and cannot eat or drink with Invisalign.
Don’t worry. These “rules” are pretty simple and reasonable once you learn why you must or should not do them.
We also share 3 helpful tips to make eating and drinking easier with Invisalign.
Can you eat with Invisalign?
Yes! The reason you can eat whatever you want during Invisalign treatment is because the aligners are removable.
You must remove your Invisalign aligners to eat. You can’t chew with them.
Just take them out, keep them in a safe container (no napkin!) and then eat your food.
What happens when you eat with Invisalign?
If you eat while wearing Invisalign, you risk damage to the tray and your oral health.
Clear aligners… This text will open a new tab on the Invisalign website… are not designed to withstand the intense force of chewing food, causing them to tear or break.
In this case, your treatment may not be as effective and may last longer.
Also, eating with aligners can discolor them.
As far as your oral health is concerned, eating with aligners is not good as food can get stuck in them. This allows bacteria to thrive, leading to tooth decay and gum disease.
Do I need to brush my teeth every time I eat with Invisalign?
Yes! After eating, it is recommended that you brush your teeth before putting your Invisalign aligners back in.
This removes food and bacteria from your mouth, preventing tooth decay and periodontitis.
Helpful Tip #1:
Carry a toothbrush kit with you so you always have a secure aligner case, toothbrush, toothpaste and dental floss on hand.
Can you snack with Invisalign?
The answer is the same as above:
You must remove your Invisalign aligners before snacking.
Another important reminder:
You must wear your Invisalign aligners at least 20 hours a day. If you overeat, you may not meet compliance requirements, making your treatment less effective or taking longer.
Can you chew gum with Invisalign?
No, you should not chew gum while wearing aligners.
Aligners are not designed to withstand the constant force of chewing gum. It can also stick to your aligners and become quite a mess.
If you feel the need to chew something, get Invisalign chewy candy. They are small cylinders designed to be chewed with Invisalign. They also help the aligners fit better and reduce discomfort. You can find these on Amazon.
If you want to freshen your breath, brush and floss your teeth or buy clear aligner mints called Movemints… This text will open a new tab on the Movemints website….
If you must chew gum, do so during your meal breaks while your aligners are already out.
Can you drink with Invisalign?
With Invisalign, you can technically drink anything you want.
But here’s the fine print!
Can you drink water with Invisalign?
Yes!
Water is the only beverage you are allowed to consume while wearing your Invisalign aligners.
However, avoid drinking warm or hot water as the hotter temperature can warp the aligner, making it less effective or potentially irritating your gums.
Helpful Tip #2:
If your teeth feel sensitive after switching to a new aligner, drink cold water. The cold temperature helps relieve discomfort and reduce inflammation.
Can you drink sparkling water with Invisalign?
Generally speaking:
No, you should not drink sparkling water while wearing Invisalign aligners as it may stain the aligners or damage your teeth.
In some cases, your Invisalign provider may allow you to drink sparkling water in moderation, as long as it doesn’t contain coloring or sugar and you are aware of the risks of carbonizing your tooth enamel.
rule of thumb:
Remove your aligners to consume sparkling water.
Can you drink coffee with Invisalign?
You can drink tea or coffee during Invisalign treatment, but you must remove the aligners.
Tea and coffee tend to stain your aligners, attachments and teeth!
Hot drinks can also damage your aligners.
What if I drink coffee through a straw?
Even with a straw, you will need to remove your aligners to consume coffee or tea.
What about alcohol, wine, soda or juice?
You may drink alcohol, wine, soda, juice, and any other beverages during Invisalign treatment. But like above, you have to remove the aligners to use them up.
The only drink you can safely consume while wearing clear aligners is water.
In case you didn’t know:
Sugary and acidic drinks should definitely be avoided – Invisalign treatment or not.
These types of drinks damage your tooth enamel, making it extremely susceptible to tooth decay and contributing to plaque and tartar build-up, which is the main cause of gum disease.
Helpful Tip #3:
Drink water while consuming other beverages to flush away sugar, tannins, and bacteria. If you don’t have much time to brush your teeth during the day before putting your aligners back in, rinse them out with water or a mouthwash.
Can you smoke with Invisalign?
Technically, you can smoke when you remove your aligners.
But you really shouldn’t!
Smoking breaks affect your compliance with wearing the aligners for more than 20 hours a day, making your treatment longer and less effective.
Not to mention that smoking can discolor the aligners and your teeth, and tobacco products can get stuck in the aligners and cause tooth decay.
Is Invisalign worth it?
Yes!
While you may need to cut back on your habits like sipping sugary drinks and snacks, the reality is:
On average, Invisalign treatment only takes 6 to 12 months, which is faster than braces.
You’ll be done with the treatment and these “rules” before you know it!

Are there foods to avoid with Invisalign?
In fact, not just gum but rather all sticky foods and candies should be avoided. Sticky foods, like jelly beans, caramel, Starbursts, etc. can pull and tug at the aligners, possibly breaking or damaging them. Avoiding Specific Drinks: Drinks like coffee, tea, and wine can easily stain your Invisalign aligners.
Dating with Invisalign®
What makes Invisalign different from other orthodontic treatment plans? The flexible and comfortable fit on the patient’s teeth and mouth gives them a virtually invisible solution to a healthier looking smile. Invisalign treatment gives you the time, space, and separation from your treatment to eat without interrupting your splints, while allowing you to have an easier and more thorough cleaning of both your teeth and the appliance. While one of the many benefits of Invisalign is being able to eat whatever you want, a key aspect of treatment is a healthy diet. dr Yakov Eisenberger and Dr. Rahul Gulati of Hanson Place Orthodontics near Boerum Hill, NY are here to explain the importance of eating healthier, especially when undergoing your Invisalign orthodontic treatment.
Which foods should I avoid?
Hard foods and sweets: Things like potato chips and pretzels that snap shut quickly and easily probably won’t interfere with your Invisalign treatment because they’re not hard enough to press your teeth. However, foods like jawbreakers, hard-shelled bread, and uncooked carrots are just a few of the foods that a Hanson Place orthodontist said shouldn’t be eaten during treatment. Hard candies that you suck on should also be avoided as the residue they leave behind will feed plaque. Hard fruits and vegetables are definitely a healthier option, but should be cut into smaller pieces. But if possible, stick to softer options like bananas, grapes, and strawberries.
Sticky foods and sweets: For people with braces, chewing gum is high on the “don’t eat” list. But what about Invisalign? dr Yakov Eisenberger, Dr. Rahul Gulati and the team at Hanson Place Orthodontics agree that gums with Invisalign is a bad combination. In fact, not only chewing gum but all sticky foods and sweets should be avoided. Sticky foods such as jelly beans, caramel, starbursts, etc. can pull and tug on the aligners, possibly breaking or damaging them.
Avoiding Certain Drinks: Drinks like coffee, tea, and wine can easily soil your Invisalign aligners. These drinks often leave the aligners with a darker tint and dirty appearance, making your teeth look discolored. With hot coffee, hot tea, and other hot beverages, the high temperatures can warp or deform the aligners, potentially resulting in increased orthodontic treatment time. It’s important to note that beverages like soda and coffee can be detrimental to both the health of your teeth and your overall health. Although it’s okay to drink occasionally, Drs. Yakov Eisenberger and Dr. Rahul Gulati recommends limiting the amount taken and always rinsing afterwards. Baking soda is very acidic and will break down tooth enamel. Soda’s sticky properties mean the sugar effectively sticks to your teeth and provides a food source for bacteria.
Invisalign doesn’t just require money or technology, it requires responsibility. Brushing your teeth, cleaning your aligners, and staying away from those foods or habits will make your Invisalign process easier and faster. If you are looking for an experienced Invisalign Orthodontist near Boerum Hill, NY to help you through your orthodontic treatment, then Hanson Place Orthodontics has you covered! You can call 718.622.2695 to book an orthodontic consultation with Dr. Yakov Eisenberger and Dr. Rahul Gulati or get in touch with one of our friends at Hanson Place Orthodontics who will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. 6 Things to Know About Invisalign Before You Get Them
One of the most popular dental tools lately when it comes to straightening crooked teeth are invisible aligners. They have many positive benefits; They are not visible like metal wire staples and are less painful. Nowadays, invisible aligners are much more convenient. And with Invisalign aligners, they look and feel all the more natural. So if you’re thinking about getting your own invisible braces fitted, here are some things you should know before planning a visit to the dentist:
The duration of treatment may vary
Depending on the condition of your teeth, your dentist may tell you that you need anywhere from 2 to 20 different levels of alignment. At each stage, a new aligner tray is fitted to your teeth.
You need to wear it for 20-22 hours
According to News Health, you need to wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours if you want to see maximum results. However, if your lifestyle does not agree, it is safe to say that the minimum you can walk is no less than 20 hours.
Ladies, no more lipstick
You can forget about wearing lipstick. Colored lip gloss and lipstick appear on your clear aligners. And while you could certainly use clear lip gloss and lip balm, they leave behind an annoying waxy residue. In the end, it’s better to just stick to a no lip color policy.
You will lose weight
Since you’ll be wearing the aligners for 20 to 22 hours, you have about two to four hours to remove the aligners for meals and snacks. If you love to linger over your food, these aligners will definitely make you eat faster. While you could certainly eat with the aligners on, you may find it too much work to clean your aligners every time you eat.
The aligners discolour slightly
You can only drink cold water when wearing your aligners. Coffee and hot tea will discolor the aligners, while sugary beverages or alcoholic beverages will cause plaque build-up that is difficult to clean. So stick to the water.
Finally, talk to your dentist
Contact your Levan Dental Group dentist at 734-464-8020 or click here to see if you qualify for invisible aligners. This way you can be sure that it is the right treatment for you. Your dentist will work out a treatment plan and make the alignment trays using impressions of your teeth. In just a few months, you’ll start seeing results and enjoying a straighter, happier smile.
Things you should NOT do during Invisalign Treatment
Invisalign treatment has revolutionized the modern orthodontic industry. Invisalign offers today’s teenagers an invisible solution, but just like braces and any dental treatment, it’s important to take good care of the product to ensure its full effectiveness.
Here is a list of things NOT to do during your Invisalign treatment as recommended by the Fresh Smiles Orthodontics team.
Don’t get them dirty
It’s important not to drink anything but water when wearing your Invisalign aligners. Dark or heavily pigmented foods can discolor your aligners and make them visible through residue. Do your best to brush and floss thoroughly after eating to avoid staining the aligners.
Don’t scratch them
Help your aligners last the length of your treatment by taking good care of them. The aligners can become scratched or break if pulled out too quickly. So handle it with care.
Do not rush the treatment
During the treatment, the teeth must move evenly, slowly and gently to be effective. Rushing treatment can lead to resorption or shrinkage of the teeth, making the teeth less stable and more likely to fall out over time.
Don’t play with it
The first few days of Invisalign treatment are the most difficult as you adjust to the aligners, but after a few days most people hardly notice their aligners. Meanwhile
In the first period it is important to leave the aligners alone. Avoid probing the edges of the aligners with your tongue as this may scratch or sore it. Invisalign case
Don’t leave them in
Before each meal, take a few seconds to safely remove the aligners and place them in their case. Eating while wearing the aligners could scratch or damage them, which would delay treatment and make it expensive. Again, don’t drink anything other than water while wearing the aligners to avoid staining.
Don’t forget to clean
Brush and floss as often as possible after each meal to keep your teeth and aligners clean and free of bacteria that can cause bad breath. If you are not in an environment where you can brush and floss your teeth, another suitable option is to rinse your mouth with warm water or chew sugar-free gum.
