How does the process work:

First off, you would need to make an appointment with a glazier to arrange for a glazier to come out to measure the desired window/door trim you wish to put it in. Many glazing companies can give you a cost estimate in advance by telephone. Your measurements will be taken during your visit and your existing glass will remain as is while the new pane is made. The glazier will then cut the new glass at his site using the prepared hole to match your cat flap. The glass is then toughened. Tempered glass, also known as toughened glass, is 4-5 times stronger than ordinary float glass and requires a heat treatment process that gives the glass its strength. While regular glass, also known as annealed glass, shatters into pieces when damaged, tempered glass shatters into small sections when damaged and is therefore referred to as safety glass. If you live in a rented apartment or are thinking about what will happen if you move in the future, this is not a problem. When removing the glass, you can ask the glazier to carefully remove the glass so that it can be stored and reinserted at a later date. If you replace the glass in the future there will usually be an upgrade fee so keep that in mind.

There is a slimline Pet-Tek cat flap on the market that will still allow your patio doors to slide past each other, a very popular choice and looks very neat too, but be aware this is not a microchipped option .

We have a dog, can you fit dog flaps in glass?

Overall unfortunately most dog flaps require a square cut out and glaziers can only cut circles in glass. Some cat flap manufacturers offer a large cat flap or pet door that fits large cats/small dogs. So it’s worth checking the size chart to see if these are suitable.
