Wow, lots of answers. Thanks, people. I was thinking of building a platform with a tie down that would go through the 65’s tie down slot. I don’t usually have anyone in the back seat and I would drop the 40 seat down from the 60/40 anyway. I have a tarpaulin so I can leave it in the back too, but why not have it with me in the truck. At least for now. I have plywood somewhere. I have to take pictures when I’m done. I hope I understand correctly.

My drain plug is leaking. What can I do?

Pelican performs a visual inspection of all coolers at the end of the manufacturing process to ensure the coolers are of the highest quality. Unfortunately, a visual inspection isn’t always able to detect something like a loose drain plug. The good news is that tightening your drain plug is pretty easy. You will need a T20 Torx screwdriver, a flathead screwdriver and a hammer.

1. Remove the anti-rotation screw with the T20 Torx screwdriver. 2. Tighten drain plug: 2a. Insert a flathead screwdriver into one of the notches in the drain collar. 2 B. Impact screwdriver with hammer to turn drain sleeve clockwise.

2c. Make sure the drain gasket is snug against the inside of the cooler (it should bulge slightly from the pressure), the drain collar is snug against the outside of the cooler, and the drain cap ring is free to move.

3. Check that the drain plug is installed correctly. Fill the radiator with enough water to cover the entire drain plug. Tilt the cooler up and leave for 15 minutes. If there is a leak, tighten the drain plug and test again.

4. Install the anti-rotation screw – alignment of the anti-rotation screw with the existing screw hole may not be possible after installing the new drain screw assembly. Be careful not to overtighten the screw as this may damage the screw hole and affect screw locking. When making the claim you will be asked to include a copy of the receipt for your cooler. Don’t worry if you no longer have your receipt, either because you’ve misplaced it throughout your life or because your cooler was a gift or prize. Instead of the receipt, you can attach a picture of the cool box (or other product). We recommend that you include a picture of the problem that the claim relates to to help Pelican evaluate your claim.

Pelican collects your credit card information to cover any shipping costs. During the submission process, it may sound like Pelican wants you to send in the entire cooler, but they will review your claim and then determine the best course of action. What can I do to make my Pelican™ Elite Cooler last longer?

Simple thermodynamics: coolers don’t make you cold; they just keep it. The thick layer of polyurethane insulation in a hard-walled Pelican Elite Cooler traps the thermal energy of its surroundings. If it has been stored in a hot garage, that means the insulation will hold the temperature of a hot garage. In fact, the insulation in a Pelican Elite cooler is so thick that if the cooler hasn’t been properly conditioned before use, the ice you put in it could melt faster than in a cooler with thinner insulation. Therefore, it is necessary to plan and prepare your Pelican Elite Cooler well to achieve the best ice storage. Pre-chill first: To bring a 40-pound cooler from 70°F down to 30°F, you have to sacrifice 20 pounds of ice. You should always pre-chill your cooler before use by bringing it indoors 24-12 hours before use and placing at least 10 pounds of sacrificial ice in the cooler. Close the lid and secure the latches when pre-chilling to keep as much cold in your cooler as possible. When you are ready to pack the cooler you can add new ice with the remaining ice/water in the cooler, drain the melt water from your cooler and add fresh ice, dump the remaining ice/water and start over. Ice 101: The type of ice you fill your cooler with has a big impact on its performance. Block ice melts more slowly and is best for long-term temperature maintenance. But ice cubes will pre-chill your cooler quicker and fill in the gaps between items better. So why not use both? Place a layer of block ice on the bottom of your cooler – or maybe even use Pelican ice packs – then use ice cubes as you fill the cooler with your goods. 2:1 Ice Ratio: To get the best ice retention from your Pelican Elite Cooler, you should use twice the amount of ice for the goods you are storing in the cooler. Last but not least, don’t forget to fill your cooler as much as possible. The less air you have in the cool box, the longer your cool box will keep the cold. Pack cold: Chill or freeze the food and beverages that go into the cool box. Warm food and drinks at room temperature warm up your cooler and melt the ice faster. Remember: coolers are designed to keep food and drinks cool, not to cool them down. Reduce Airflow: The more air there is in your cooler, the faster your ice will melt. So do whatever you can to reduce airflow. Keep the lid closed and locked when not in use. Don’t dump the melt water in your radiator. Since meltwater is so much closer to the temperature of the ice in your cooler than air, it’s better to keep your cooler insulated and keep the ice longer. How do I clean my cooler?

Cleaning your cooler before and after each use will help you get the best performance from your cooler. Warm water and regular dish soap are all you need to clean your cooler, and thanks to the built-in drain on most Elite coolers (the Elite Cooler 20QT has no drain), it’s easy to empty your cooler during cleaning . In extreme cases, you can use a solution of bleach and water to clean your cooler, but we recommend you don’t exceed a solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water. If you’re worried about lingering smells, put a few drops of vanilla extract on a paper towel and quickly wipe down your cooler. After your cooler is clean, don’t forget to let it dry completely before storing it away until the next time you need it.

The replacement bottle openers that we sell on our website are not intended for use with first generation rotomoulded coolers. Please note that if your cooler is altered, damaged or physically altered in any way, your cooler warranty will be void.

What is the return and refund policy?

Items that are unused and in their original condition can be returned within 45 days of purchase. To initiate a return, please fill out the request form at our returns center. Our returns specialist will review your request and contact you to coordinate the return of your items. Requests will be reviewed within two business days of receipt. Depending on the type of return, images of the product(s) may be required.

All non-warranty returns are subject to a restocking fee. This restocking fee is used to offset the shipping cost to you and back to our warehouse. Soft coolers, backpacks and duffel bags are subject to a restocking fee of up to 10%. Hard shell coolers, accessories, drinkware and dry boxes are subject to a restocking fee of up to 20%. Once your return arrives at our warehouse, you will receive a refund for your order minus the restocking fee.

Your returns must be sent back to us within 14 calendar days of your return request being approved. After this period, your return request will need to be re-approved and additional charges may apply to your return.

Returned products should be sent back to us in the packaging in which they arrived. If you do not have the original packaging, please find or purchase packaging no larger than 1 inch on each side of the product. If you cannot find a box that is the right size for your product, please cut a box to no more than 1 inch on each side of it. If a returned product is not packaged correctly, additional charges will apply.

Do we ship to PO Boxes?

We cannot deliver to PO Boxes. The USPS has size limits on what can be sent to a PO Box and most of our products exceed these limits.

Will my Pelican™ Elite Cooler keep my hot stuff hot?

Yes! The two inches of insulation that does such an amazing job of retaining ice will help retain heat just as well. We’ve seen Pelican Elite Coolers used to hold cooked peanuts or to rest large grilled items. We even saw someone set up their immersion circulator in their cooler to enjoy a giant tomahawk ribeye sous vide.

Just make sure the contents of your cooler do not exceed 250°F. You don’t want to accidentally melt your radiator.

Can I use dry ice in my Pelican™ Elite cooler?

Yes! You can use dry ice to turn your cool box into the ultimate freezer. All Pelican Elite hardwall coolers are designed with a cap in the gasket that acts as a pressure relief. This makes your cooler easier to open and allows the carbon dioxide gas to escape from the cooler when the dry ice sublimates. It is important that the dry ice is not in direct contact with the cooler to avoid damage to the cooler itself. A folded towel, a layer of cardboard, or even a few paper grocery bags should be enough to protect your cooler and give you the best performance.

Remember to use dry ice safely!

Do not touch dry ice directly. Use protective gloves or oven mitts when handling dry ice.

Ventilation is mandatory! Roll down your car windows to avoid a dangerous buildup of carbon dioxide gas.

Most importantly, DO NOT use dry ice in Pelican Soft Coolers. These coolers are designed to be leak-proof and gas build-up in them could cause an explosion.

Why is my cooler leaking when it tips over?

Pelican Elite coolers are fitted with a freezer safe seal to keep the cold in your cooler for as long as possible. However, these seals are not designed to be airtight or watertight, which is why your cooler will leak if it tips over.

The lid of my cool box has a wider gap than others. Will this affect ice retention or should I be concerned?

The good news is no, and this variation is normal in the manufacturing process of rotomolded polyethylene products. In fact, this gap was accounted for by the engineers who designed the coolers, and the gasket and seal are also designed to accommodate production variability. We use a gasket that has a low compression force with a high recess, which means the gasket still makes contact with the bottom of the cooler.

You can test this yourself using the following method: Place a lamp in the cool box and close the lid and lock the latches in a dark room. The light should not be visible until the latches are released and the lid is lifted slightly (about 1/8 inch). If the light doesn’t escape, air doesn’t escape either.
