Cooler With Tie Down Slots? 216 Most Correct Answers

Can you stand on a pelican cooler?

One feature I love about this cooler is that the lid opens 90° so working with it is easy. The best part is once the lid is open, it doesn’t tip over the cooler when nothing is in it. As you can see, even part of the cooler is on an overhang and the cooler is still free standing.

How do you keep a cooler from sliding on a boat?

Get a rubber shower mat, or the rubber pads you put under rugs so they don’t slide. I use the rubber net looking shelf liner. I’ve used Sea-Dek on my coolers with success. They sell small oval shapes called Hot Buttons that I place on all corners and in the middle.

How do I secure my backseat cooler?

There’s a super simple, inexpensive way to keep it VERY secure. I use 2 velcro straps on the cooler and about 4-5′ of Vectran line. Vectran can be found online or at West Marine. I use a modified figure 8 (it’s got one extra twist) knot through the seat bracket, through the velcro loop and back to a trucker’s hitch.

Wow, lots of answers. Thanks, people. I was thinking of building a platform with a tie down that would go through the 65’s tie down slot. I don’t usually have anyone in the back seat and I would drop the 40 seat down from the 60/40 anyway. I have a tarpaulin so I can leave it in the back too, but why not have it with me in the truck. At least for now. I have plywood somewhere. I have to take pictures when I’m done. I hope I understand correctly.

Is Pelican or yeti better?

In our Five Day Ice Challenge (video below) the Pelican ProGear Elite 45 Q cooler outperformed the Yeti Tundra 45. After five days the Pelican had significantly more ice remaining than the Yeti Tundra. However, it is worth noting that the original Pelican is quite heavier/bulkier than the Yeti Tundra.

Many may not know that their favorite cooler box brand may come in a variety of colors…

Is a pelican cooler worth it?

Well, a generic cooler may be cheap, but in the long run it is going to cost you. You’ll have to pay for ice every day or two when you’re using it. The insulating power inside a Pelican Elite Cooler means that, after pre-chilling your cooler before use, it will be able to hold the same ice for days on end.

Universal Pelican™ Tie Down Kit

Are Pelican Elite coolers really worth it? The answer is yes. Pelican Elite coolers are worth it. Of course I can already hear you saying: That’s not an argument. Where’s the proof? What Makes Pelican Elite Coolers Great? Well, let’s go back and review all the relevant information. Pelican Elite Coolers are hardside coolers that are 100% American made. They are engineered to be tough and offer extreme ice retention. Between the durable plastic walls of these coolers is a continuous layer of polyurethane foam with no thin sections or cutouts. These coolers have all kinds of built-in features: a stainless steel bottle opener that’s integrated into the hasp, molded-in cup holders and attachment slots, non-slip rubber feet, and most helpfully, unique press & pull latches that are simple and easy to close with one hand can be operated, but do not open by themselves. The beveled drain plugs, found on all Elite coolers except the 20QT, have been updated for Summer 2020 to be more durable and user-friendly than ever, with a steel wire cable securing the drain cap to the cooler. Okay you say. But those coolers still cost a lot of money. Why not buy a generic at the supermarket? Well, a generic cooler might be cheap, but it will cost you in the long run. You have to pay for ice every day or two if you use it. The insulating power in a Pelican Elite Cooler means that once pre-chilled before use, your cooler can hold the same ice for days. So you could use a generic cooler for a week and spend up to $16 on ice, or you could use a Pelican Elite Cooler for a week and spend $4 on ice. Multiply that by all the trips you use your cooler on, and over the lifespan of a regular cooler, you’re spending far more on ice than you’re spending on the initial cost of the Pelican Elite Cooler and the ice required to make it. And while we’re talking about the lifespan of a cooler, how long do you think this generic cooler will last? 5 years? 10 years – if you take really good care of it and are super lucky? Not only is a Pelican Elite Cooler built tough enough to withstand the knocks and scrapes, rough handling, and dirt and grime of any adventure you embark on, it also comes with a lifetime guarantee of excellence. Do you need to replace a latch or the drain plug? No problem on a Pelican Elite cooler. The hardware of most generic coolers cannot even be replaced in the first place. Once one latch is broken, the whole cooler is broken. Are you noticing a decrease in ice retention in your Pelican Elite Cooler? You are covered whether you bought the cooler five years ago or twenty-five years ago. And now you say: OK. If I’m going to pay for a high-end cooler, I might as well go for the prestige brand! Everyone else has one, so it must be great. You could certainly go for the prestige brand. But a Pelican Elite Cooler is still a better choice. After all, why go with the prestige brand when you have to buy add-ons to get all the built-in features that come standard with a Pelican Elite cooler? Why go with the prestige brand when you can pay more for a smaller cooler? Pelican Elite coolers are true to capacity, so you get exactly what it sounds like at a lower price. But surely the prestige brand has a better performance, right? Not correct. When it comes to ice retention, Pelican Elite Coolers rival any other high-end cooler brand on the market. And I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but remember when I said all Pelican Elite hard-side coolers are made in America and come with that amazing lifetime warranty?

Can I put dry ice in my Pelican cooler?

Yes! You can use dry ice to turn your cooler into the ultimate deep freeze. All of the hard-sided Pelican Elite Coolers are designed with a cap in the gasket that acts as a pressure release.

My drain plug is leaking. What can I do?

Pelican performs a visual inspection of all coolers at the end of the manufacturing process to ensure the coolers are of the highest quality. Unfortunately, a visual inspection isn’t always able to detect something like a loose drain plug. The good news is that tightening your drain plug is pretty easy. You will need a T20 Torx screwdriver, a flathead screwdriver and a hammer.

1. Remove the anti-rotation screw with the T20 Torx screwdriver. 2. Tighten drain plug: 2a. Insert a flathead screwdriver into one of the notches in the drain collar. 2 B. Impact screwdriver with hammer to turn drain sleeve clockwise.

2c. Make sure the drain gasket is snug against the inside of the cooler (it should bulge slightly from the pressure), the drain collar is snug against the outside of the cooler, and the drain cap ring is free to move.

3. Check that the drain plug is installed correctly. Fill the radiator with enough water to cover the entire drain plug. Tilt the cooler up and leave for 15 minutes. If there is a leak, tighten the drain plug and test again.

4. Install the anti-rotation screw – alignment of the anti-rotation screw with the existing screw hole may not be possible after installing the new drain screw assembly. Be careful not to overtighten the screw as this may damage the screw hole and affect screw locking. If this does not help your drain plug leak or you have other concerns about the leak, please contact us at [email protected].

How do I make a warranty claim?

You can start the warranty process at https://www.pelican.com/claim. Please fill out the claim form as completely and accurately as possible to ensure a quick resolution of your warranty claim.

When making the claim you will be asked to include a copy of the receipt for your cooler. Don’t worry if you no longer have your receipt, either because you’ve misplaced it throughout your life or because your cooler was a gift or prize. Instead of the receipt, you can attach a picture of the cool box (or other product). We recommend that you include a picture of the problem that the claim relates to to help Pelican evaluate your claim.

Pelican collects your credit card information to cover any shipping costs. During the submission process, it may sound like Pelican wants you to send in the entire cooler, but they will review your claim and then determine the best course of action. Then they will tell you how they will proceed before charging you for the shipping costs involved.

After submitting your claim online, you may contact the Warranty Department by phone at 1-800-472-5422 [ext.]. 5] or by email to [email protected]. Please have your claim number ready so the warranty department can provide it when you call.

What materials is a Pelican™ Elite cool box made of?

The Elite Cooler’s world-class cooling factor is the result of a two-inch thick, continuous layer of polyurethane insulation.* No thin-walled sections, no cutouts. Just a solid, molded thermal barrier sealed tight with a 360-degree, freezer-grade rubber seal. Sturdy push and pull fasteners are easier to use and more durable than other rubber fasteners. The strength of stainless steel fittings resists corrosion better than aluminum. This hardware can repel salt, sand and sunlight for the life of your cooler.

*20QT Elite coolers have a 2.5 cm thick continuous layer of polyurethane insulation.

Where are the Pelican™ Elite Coolers designed and manufactured?

We are proud to say that all Pelican Elite hardwall coolers are designed and manufactured in the USA. These coolers are manufactured in South Deerfield, MA.

Pelican 1050 and 1060 Micro Cases are designed and manufactured in the USA. These cases are made in Torrance, CA.

Pelican 14QT Personal Elite Coolers, Elite & Dayventure soft-sided coolers, drinkware, backpacks and duffels, and personal utility cases are designed in the USA and manufactured abroad.

Performance will vary based on model size and external user conditions including sun exposure, wind, ice type, frequency of opening etc. Please read below how to maximize your ice retention.

What can I do to make my Pelican™ Elite Cooler last longer?

Simple thermodynamics: coolers don’t make you cold; they just keep it. The thick layer of polyurethane insulation in a hard-walled Pelican Elite Cooler traps the thermal energy of its surroundings. If it has been stored in a hot garage, that means the insulation will hold the temperature of a hot garage. In fact, the insulation in a Pelican Elite cooler is so thick that if the cooler hasn’t been properly conditioned before use, the ice you put in it could melt faster than in a cooler with thinner insulation. Therefore, it is necessary to plan and prepare your Pelican Elite Cooler well to achieve the best ice storage. Pre-chill first: To bring a 40-pound cooler from 70°F down to 30°F, you have to sacrifice 20 pounds of ice. You should always pre-chill your cooler before use by bringing it indoors 24-12 hours before use and placing at least 10 pounds of sacrificial ice in the cooler. Close the lid and secure the latches when pre-chilling to keep as much cold in your cooler as possible. When you are ready to pack the cooler you can add new ice with the remaining ice/water in the cooler, drain the melt water from your cooler and add fresh ice, dump the remaining ice/water and start over. Ice 101: The type of ice you fill your cooler with has a big impact on its performance. Block ice melts more slowly and is best for long-term temperature maintenance. But ice cubes will pre-chill your cooler quicker and fill in the gaps between items better. So why not use both? Place a layer of block ice on the bottom of your cooler – or maybe even use Pelican ice packs – then use ice cubes as you fill the cooler with your goods. 2:1 Ice Ratio: To get the best ice retention from your Pelican Elite Cooler, you should use twice the amount of ice for the goods you are storing in the cooler. Last but not least, don’t forget to fill your cooler as much as possible. The less air you have in the cool box, the longer your cool box will keep the cold. Pack cold: Chill or freeze the food and beverages that go into the cool box. Warm food and drinks at room temperature warm up your cooler and melt the ice faster. Remember: coolers are designed to keep food and drinks cool, not to cool them down. Reduce Airflow: The more air there is in your cooler, the faster your ice will melt. So do whatever you can to reduce airflow. Keep the lid closed and locked when not in use. Don’t dump the melt water in your radiator. Since meltwater is so much closer to the temperature of the ice in your cooler than air, it’s better to keep your cooler insulated and keep the ice longer. Please note: Ice retention will NOT be affected by bending. A “gap” is only cosmetic, not a functional defect. The gasket is the gasket, and it’s about two inches inside the outer rim of the radiator. We opened the lid 1/8 inch and in our test it still held ice for 7 days. Ice retention is NOT affected by flexing. A “gap” is only cosmetic, not a functional defect. The gasket is the gasket, and it’s about two inches inside the outer rim of the radiator. How do I clean my cooler?

Cleaning your cooler before and after each use will help you get the best performance from your cooler. Warm water and regular dish soap are all you need to clean your cooler, and thanks to the built-in drain on most Elite coolers (the Elite Cooler 20QT has no drain), it’s easy to empty your cooler during cleaning . In extreme cases, you can use a solution of bleach and water to clean your cooler, but we recommend you don’t exceed a solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water. If you’re worried about lingering smells, put a few drops of vanilla extract on a paper towel and quickly wipe down your cooler. After your cooler is clean, don’t forget to let it dry completely before storing it away until the next time you need it.

My cool box doesn’t come with a bottle opener. can i install one

The replacement bottle openers that we sell on our website are not intended for use with first generation rotomoulded coolers. Please note that if your cooler is altered, damaged or physically altered in any way, your cooler warranty will be void.

Can I contract a Pelican™ Elite cooler?

Yes! With cast-in brackets and stainless steel plates, you can leave your Elite cooler on the boat, at base camp or in the truck with confidence. A cast-in hasp securely secures the lid, while a steel plate prevents prying open. You can secure your cool box with a sea cable lock through the lock shackle or the molded-in attachment slots on your cool box.

What type of warranty does Pelican™ offer on its products?

Will my Pelican™ Elite Cooler keep my hot stuff hot?

Yes! The two inches of insulation that does such an amazing job of retaining ice will help retain heat just as well. We’ve seen Pelican Elite Coolers used to hold cooked peanuts or to rest large grilled items. We even saw someone set up their immersion circulator in their cooler to enjoy a giant tomahawk ribeye sous vide.

Just make sure the contents of your cooler do not exceed 250°F. You don’t want to accidentally melt your radiator.

Can I use dry ice in my Pelican™ Elite cooler?

Yes! You can use dry ice to turn your cool box into the ultimate freezer. All Pelican Elite hardwall coolers are designed with a cap in the gasket that acts as a pressure relief. This makes your cooler easier to open and allows the carbon dioxide gas to escape from the cooler when the dry ice sublimates. It is important that the dry ice is not in direct contact with the cooler to avoid damage to the cooler itself. A folded towel, a layer of cardboard, or even a few paper grocery bags should be enough to protect your cooler and give you the best performance.

Remember to use dry ice safely!

Do not touch dry ice directly. Use protective gloves or oven mitts when handling dry ice.

Ventilation is mandatory! Roll down your car windows to avoid a dangerous buildup of carbon dioxide gas.

Most importantly, DO NOT use dry ice in Pelican Soft Coolers. These coolers are designed to be leak-proof and gas build-up in them could cause an explosion.

Why is my cooler leaking when it tips over?

Pelican Elite coolers are fitted with a freezer safe seal to keep the cold in your cooler for as long as possible. However, these seals are not designed to be airtight or watertight, which is why your cooler will leak if it tips over.

The lid of my cool box has a wider gap than others. Will this affect ice retention or should I be concerned?

The good news is no, and this variation is normal in the manufacturing process of rotomolded polyethylene products. In fact, this gap was accounted for by the engineers who designed the coolers, and the gasket and seal are also designed to accommodate production variability. We use a gasket that has a low compression force with a high recess, which means the gasket still makes contact with the bottom of the cooler.

You can test this yourself using the following method: Place a lamp in the cool box and close the lid and lock the latches in a dark room. The light should not be visible until the latches are released and the lid is lifted slightly (about 1/8 inch). If the light doesn’t escape, air doesn’t escape either.

Pelican 30 Quart Cooler Review

REVIEW OVERVIEW Quality features Performance value

If you need rugged products in business, then Pelican is the company for you. They opened their doors in 1976 and set out to design rugged cases, lights and more that stand up to abuse. Since then they have been adopted by fire departments, hospitals and government agencies who rely on their reliability and robustness. As people in these industries have engaged with Pelican over the years, more and more households named consumer products have been hitting the shelves, which brings us to this cooler. Let’s take a look at the Pelican 30 Quart Cooler Review and see how it holds up.

Pelican 30 Quart Cooler Review Summary

For this review, we dive into the features and cooling performance of this cooler. We didn’t look at toughness for several reasons. First, Pelican is known for its toughness and puts its products to the test. Second, if you break their products, they have your back, so no worries and no problems. If you break it, they will replace it forever. However, we gave this to a contractor for his crew. We’ll keep going and see how it holds up.

Pelican 30 Quart Cooler Review Features

Pelican uses a polypropylene body to make this rugged cooler. The latches are made from an ABS plastic, which is the same type of plastic made from power tools that are designed to be dropped and abused. We actually have an article coming soon about the different materials used to make tools. To stay with the sturdiness of this cooler, the hardware is made entirely of stainless steel, meaning it will not rust over the lifetime of the owner.

In terms of insulation, the cooler uses polyurethane foam and is rated for up to 6 days of ice storage.

Pelican calls this a 30-quart cooler, but it’s actually a 32.95-quart cooler, just in case anyone keeps track. The external dimensions are 25.30″ x 19.00″ x 18.50″ while the interior is smaller at 2.1″ due to the foam walls. The internal dimensions are 14.60″ x 10.20″ x 11.00″.

The empty radiator weighs 21.67 lbs. and also features built-in carry handles. The rubber feet ensure that it doesn’t slip around your truck bed as easily as plastic feet or a plastic floor.

On top of the cooler you’ll see some cool features like the built in can holder, imprinted measuring tool and the top can also be used as a table or prep area.

You can add a lock to the front of the cool box in case you are with some friends who want to grab your food or drinks. Just below the area for the lock is a bottle opener which comes in handy as I lose mine on camping trips.

You can close the lid with a zipper at the front corners of the cool box. The latches do a perfect job, but if you want that extra protection or if this cooler is being shipped somewhere and out of your sight, the zip tie feature comes in handy.

There is a drain plug on the underside of the radiator. Mine didn’t leak, but I’ve seen people have issues with theirs leaking.

The clasps use a push button to open which offers more protection and better closing than a traditional locking system.

As you can see when opening the cool box, there is a clear difference in size between the outside and inside dimensions.

There are several hinges that attach the lid to the body. The cooler has a stainless steel bar that is attached by the hinges.

Along with the foam, the rubber seal helps keep the elements on the outside and your ice in a solid state for longer.

One feature I love about this cool box is that the lid opens 90°, making it easy to work with. Best of all, when the lid is open, it doesn’t tip over the cool box when there’s nothing inside. As you can see, even part of the radiator is on an overhang and the radiator is still exposed. Love this as other coolers I’ve used tip over and it’s always a hassle to add drinks or ice when they’re empty. It might seem small, but sometimes features like this make all the difference.

Pelican 30 Quart Cooler Review Performance

I live in the Chicago area where it gets extremely hot so there is no better way to test this cooler. Everything you see in the cooler was room temperature and not out of the fridge. So if I added ice, it had to chill the drinks.

With all the drinks in the cooler you can see there is room at the top to add more drinks to the meal.

I had more water that I didn’t want to take with me so I added it to the cooler which meant it added more heat inside for the ice to cool.

I added ice, closed the lid and let it sit.

The cool box was in direct sunlight from about 8:00 a.m. to about 6:00 p.m. The first day the temperature was in the mid 90’s.

I checked the cooler in the morning and there it was in direct sunlight and high temperatures. I was surprised to even see ice in the cooler, let alone how much ice was left. Considering I put room temperature water in the cooler, I figured this might melt a few pieces of ice.

After the second day, I checked it on the third day. On the second day the temperature was closer to 90°. Again I was surprised how much ice was left in the cooler and yes, everything was nice and cold.

Finally, on the third day of direct sunlight and temperatures in the mid-90s, the ice melted. The drinks were still cold, but they were standing in the water. I checked it on the fifth day, which means it has been outside for four days. I can conclude that you can easily get four days of direct sunlight and trust your items to stay cold. Now if you keep it in the shade or have lower temperatures you will get a longer lifespan.

One note, sorry I didn’t have days three and four but took the pictures with a different camera and the card has been formatted. But I think after day one and two you can see the ice melting and understand what’s important.

Pelican 30 Quart Cool Appraisal Value

You can buy this cooler on Amazon for around $225, and it comes in a variety of colors. Yes, there are other coolers for less, but what do you really get for the extra money.

First, you get a robust cooler that can withstand harsh environments and hard handling by users. Second, you get a product that is designed for extended periods of time when people need to keep items cold for more than a day.

So if you only need daytime cooling, it’s not worth the extra money. If you need something sturdy that will keep your food cold for long periods while the price is high, it’s still worth a look as it will give you what you need.

Pelican 30 Quart Cooler Review Final Thoughts

Although the price is high, I can’t argue with the build quality. If you depend on keeping your food cold for long periods of time, this cooler is for you. While the cooler is heavy and bulky, these disadvantages are difficult to circumvent if you want thick walls for insulation and have the sturdiness to match. Overall, I like this cooler. It would be a cooler I would trust when traveling or camping in remote locations. For the pro who keeps this in his cold drinks truck for his workers, it will be nice not having to change the ice every day.
