We found out that there is no longer just TRUsox, but different anti-slip soccer socks – today we want to give an overview of what we have experienced with different anti-slip soccer socks. First of all, we would like to say that every football player should try non-slip socks. Why? Professional players get their shoes customized (and therefore generally have fewer problems with slipping), while amateur footballers often have shoes that don’t fit perfectly. As a rule, anti-slip socks bring even more advantages for amateur players than for professionals, of whom more and more wear anti-slip socks in the meantime. The best non-slip soccer socks we tested were the Tapedesign socks. They’re very, very thin, which makes them perfect for ball control and slip resistance (in fact, rubber pads are much thicker than the material, so you “just hit the bottom of your boots with rubber”). In case you’re wondering – the pink Tapedesign socks don’t have holes because of poor quality, but because we’ve worn them very, very often (lots of soccer sessions and 1000km of running…). Two pairs should last you perfectly for about a season if you play soccer for 60 minutes three times a week. The worst socks were Gravity Gear. Gravity Gear Socks come in two versions – Performance (Comfort + Grip) and Pro (Maximum Grip / Less Comfort “match-day”). The grip pads of the Pro version (TRUsox copy) came off after washing (only socks with this problem at all). They are quite a joke – they should give the money back [we got them for free from them]). The Performance version is pretty good for comfort and grip, but really bad in one aspect – they are very, very bad for ball control. The fancy design is created by stitching that results in the thickness in the upper part front to back is different… a design flaw that’s just really, really bad. The performance version is very good (the best?) for a comfortable run without slipping, other than that. In general it can be said that all anti-slip socks have some advantages and disadvantages. Tapedesign’s socks are very thin (almost no support), the SOXPro socks might offer too much grip for many and others (Gravity Gear) offer too little. So which one should you take? We recommend trying the tape design first. If these are too thin and don’t offer enough support (especially in everyday life), you should try TRUsox (slightly more comfortable than tape design and also available as a cushioned version) or SOXPro (very good grip & good ball control). We do not recommend Gravity Gear’s product, while you can try others from fours as well. We personally believe that there won’t be a big revolution with non-slip football socks in the near future. However, all brands are very focused on maximizing the grip on the lower part with anti-slip pads, still allows perfect ball control. There could be a market for non-slip socks that offer 360° grip. We think this would be needed especially in the heel/angular area. Another odd thought is that none/most brands don’t think outside the box – there’s definitely a huge market for other sports like running where there are also non-slip socks that give advantage.
