Touch up on polycoat

Quote from: charlestheforth on Nov 22, 2018 00:41:52 Matt Black Motor Paint Spray Paint. Ignore Birchwood Casey’s advice.

The matte black dries exactly the same color as the polycoat, then take 600 grit sandpaper and sand flush with the finish. You literally won’t be able to tell the gun was ever damaged.

Ok, just so I understand, do you paint first, let dry, then sand until flush with the original finish?

Sorry, should have been more specific. Take the spray paint and spray it onto a piece of aluminum foil. Make sure you shake it up well and spray enough because for some reason the engine paint comes out kinda clear for the first half second or so. It takes a little spraying to get the fully mixed stuff out. After spray-painting it onto a piece of aluminum foil, take a cue tip, dip it in the paint and simply touch the cut tip to the area that has the thing. Wait maybe even 30 seconds after applying the first few drops as you want to allow the paint to set so that it dries higher than where the Polycoat is (so you can sand the paint flush). Once you have a good amount of it on the area, let it dry for a sufficient amount of time. Then take a very fine sandpaper and sand it down flush. If the sandpaper is fine enough you should be able to easily run over the polycoat and not change the appearance at all. Of course, you don’t want to sand the polycoat at all, but when you sand off the paint stain you will inadvertently touch some of the polycoat. Try to use as little pressure as possible when sanding. enough to remove the paint, but not enough to really dig into the polycoat once you’re about to rinse. As one member said, there are definitely other methods that can be stronger than motor paint. But this method is the cheapest and quickest way to get a scratched gun looking like new. And the engine paint itself isn’t too shabby. after all, it IS engine paint

Can CZ’s Polycoat be repaired(touched up?)

Another simple repair I’ve done. If it’s just scratches in the paintwork that show shiny metal through, then you can use Wal-Mart’s relatively inexpensive “Perma-Blu.” Simply degrease the area and wipe with a cotton swab. The scratches disappear and are hardly noticeable unless they penetrate deeply into the metal. Be sure to follow the directions and remove the bluing solution when you’re done. Then lightly oil the surface to protect it.

CZ Polycoat touch up?

I’ve tried matte black spray paint (spray onto a plate to make it runny, then dab with a toothpick).

The layer of epoxy actually goes on quite thick to hide imperfections in the frame. So I would think nail polish would work just fine. You probably don’t want shine.

Nail polish is removed with acetone, so when you touch it up, be careful what you use to clean the gun afterwards.
