How do you know if a shirt fits you well?

Shoulder Seams

The shoulder seams are a good way to tell how well a shirt fits you. Ideally, these seams should reach to the end of your shoulder at the very top of your arm. If they extend down your upper arm, the shirt is too big. If they don’t reach the end of your shoulder, the shirt is too small.

How do you wear a shirt fast?

Directions: Combine one cup of salt with ¼ cup washing soda. Together these will work to break down the fibers of the shirt and reduce stiffness. Put the shirt in the wash – to save on water, include the shirt in other loads of items that you want to soften in the same way (other t-shirts, towels, sheets, etc.).

What clothes make you look skinny?

Instead choose full A-line skirts and dresses as well as wide-leg pants … always with a fitted top. If you’re a top gainer, forget tight tees and slim-fit button-downs and pair puff sleeve tops, dropped-shoulder sweaters and oversized shirts with slim bottoms. It’s all about playing with proportions.

We’ve already told you how to instantly lose 10 pounds by wearing clothes with clean lines, flattering shapes and well-placed hems. Now it’s time to shed another 10 pounds with some more fashion weight loss tricks. You may know that a jacket that’s tailored just right makes you look thinner, but did you know that color and pattern also play a role? Everything, including the shoes you wear, the bag you carry, and the jewelry you choose, can increase or decrease your size. And who wouldn’t want to lose 10 pounds without going on a diet? It’s time to go beyond the bare minimum with these fashion hacks for losing weight…

How to wear flattering colors

One of the easiest ways to instantly look thinner is by wearing flattering colors.

Everyone knows that black is the most flattering color, which is why every woman should have the perfect little black dress. Black always makes you look slim and elegant.

Should T shirts be tight or loose?

A tee shouldn’t be too loose, or it’ll hang awkwardly and make you look shapeless. Too tight and it’ll show your least flattering contours — even if you have a perfectly toned torso, you might look a bit showy in a tight tee. If you’re slim, choose a t-shirt with a tailored torso so you’re not swallowed up.

Should you buy shirts a size bigger?

1. T-shirts. With the quality kinds being largely comprised of cotton, you’re at risk of dryer shrinkage of up to 20 percent. Sizing up means you don’t have to sweat it if the shirt accidentally tumbles dry.

WHAT TO BUY A BIT BIG

1. T-shirts. Since the high-quality varieties are mostly made of cotton, there is a risk that they will shrink by up to 20 percent in the dryer. A larger size means you don’t have to break a sweat if the shirt accidentally runs dry.

2. Collared shirts. This guy will shrink less—but by an average of 3 percent over time. The challenge is that you never know where the shrinkage will occur (sleeves, collar, shoulders).

3. Wool sweater. Fibers contract with washing (and dry cleaning), so invest in a slightly roomier option. It’s more comfortable that way, isn’t it?

4. Socks. Again, these are mainly cotton, which means they will unravel when washed. Since you don’t want to cut off your circulation, go big.

5. Summer dresses. There’s nothing sadder than a swinging little dress that once fitted perfectly – then lost inches at the hem. Choose a size or be at the mercy of hand washing for the rest of your days.

Should I tuck in my shirt?

It’s a question that’s often debated. Here are a few guidelines: Shirts that are made with a flat bottom hem are meant to be worn untucked. But if the shirt has visible “tails” — that is to say, the hem varies in length, rather than being even all the way around — it should always be tucked in.

Why talk about something so basic?

Is it really necessary to teach men something that most of us have been doing since we were five?

Well actually.

just look around

How many men do you see wearing a baggy, unkempt looking shirt?

Or what about that guy who is giving a presentation and unknowingly tucks his shirt back in three times during a five-minute presentation?

Most men probably don’t have a system for tucking in their shirts.

Just because you do something doesn’t mean you’re doing it right.

The goal of this article is to introduce you to some tactics that could eliminate the nuisance of an un-tucked shirt or an improperly tucked shirt.

So let’s get started!

What to put and what not to put

When should you tuck in your shirt? It is a question that is often discussed. Here are a few guidelines:

Shirts with a flat hem should be worn open. But if the shirt has visible “tails” — that is, the hem varies in length rather than being even all the way around — it should always be tucked in.

Wearing an open-tailed shirt is not a forbidden look. But it’s a juvenile. With nothing else on the torso, it looks like a teenage rebel at a grown-up wedding. Under a jacket or with a suit, it looks like you’re trying too hard to get rumpled in style.

There are men who insist on the artfully unbuttoned shirt. More power for her. But for my money, tucking in a shirt with tails always makes you look sharper and more mature.

If your shirt doesn’t have any visible ends, there’s more leeway as to whether you should leave it tucked or untucked:

Singlets – These can always be tucked away and definitely should be if there’s a chance they’ll show through your other layers. For best results, tuck undershirts into underwear (more on this below).

Polo Shirts – These have a regular hem and can be worn open, but are often tucked in for a slightly dressier look, especially by golfers. However, rugby shirts, their long-sleeved cousins, are almost never tucked in.

Turtlenecks/Turtlenecks – When worn under a suit jacket or blazer, they are often tucked away so that the belt buckle is exposed. By itself, it’s better to leave them unhidden.

Hawaiian Shirts – These and all other shirts with loud prints will not tuck away, no matter what their hem looks like. Seriously, just don’t. Nothing looks more daft than a tucked-in vacation shirt. This also applies to guayaberas.

This also applies to guayaberas. T-shirts — Opinions differ widely here. Some subcultures love the t-shirt with the belt buckle showing; others will think you look like a total nerd. A lot depends on the shirt, belt, and pants, as well as your overall style. In general, don’t tuck in the t-shirt unless it’s a conscious style statement.

How to properly tuck a shirt in?

When it’s time to tuck in your shirt, do it right.

A good bend should make the front of your body smooth and flat.

If your waist tapers below your rib cage, you should be able to see that. There should be no puckering and no “muffin topping” – where the shirt protrudes past the waist of your pants and forms a ring around your middle.

You should also have a clean “gig line” — a military term for the imaginary line that runs just down the front of your body, from the top of your chin to your crotch. A well-fitting shirt should fit so that the shirt placket (the rectangle of fabric where the front buttons are located) lines up exactly with the fly of your pants. The belt buckle and pant button should be centered exactly on the same line.

A clean gig line neatly divides your body and emphasizes the evenness of proportions. It also tells people you pay attention to detail — or it might be more accurate to say a sloppy gig line is telling people you don’t. Either way, you want it to be sharp and vertical.

Finally, remember that a good shirt fit primarily makes it easier to tuck in the shirt.

The less excess fabric you have around the waist, the less your bend will need to secure. A well-fitting shirt is also sure to be long enough for effective tucking away, while a short shirt always runs the risk of slipping out no matter how well you tuck it away.

1) The simple trouser fold

This is where most men begin and finish their shirttailing training – shirttails tucked in but over briefs, pushed straight down around the waist. It’s the mindless way of doing it, and it’s the result of doing it most often.

Here’s the easiest way to do it, and you’ve probably done it a million times, unless your dad taught you another method from a young age: Put on your underwear, then put on your shirt and button it up and finally Put on your pants and button them over the shirt hems.

Your shirt will be pinned under your pants without any action on your part. It got there simply because of the order in which you did things. And as long as your pants aren’t too loose, the shirt will likely stay in place. Just because it’s easy doesn’t mean it’s bad.

If you don’t want to think too much, this is the way to go. But be warned: it works great with a fitted shirt and terrible with anything else. If your shirt isn’t a tight, tailored fit, you’ll need a little more technique to deal with the excess fabric.

2) The military tuck

This is how the armed forces are taught to tuck in their uniform shirts. It creates a pair of pleated pleats that are then pinned flat at the pant waist for a clean, stiff hem.

Different services in different countries have variations on this, but the basic principle is the same: you stand up straight in your shirt, and if there’s any loose fabric hanging on either side of you, fold it into a kind of sharp, diagonal crease, like the nose of a paper airplane close. Then tuck in the pleats at the hips and buckle your pants over them.

Below is the step-by-step guide. Don’t get discouraged if it takes a few tries to get it right! It really starts to shine once you’ve practiced it enough for the moves to become routine.

Got your pants on but unbuttoned. You’ll need to quickly close them over the shirt when you’re done folding. Pinch each of the side seams of the shirt between your thumb and forefinger. Pull down to pull the entire fabric taut. Fold the seams back toward your back end, creating a crease that folds over loose fabric on the sides. Apply enough pressure to pull the shirt front smoothly and tautly across the front of your chest. Button and tie your pants to keep the pleats flat against your body. Depending on how much excess fabric the shirt has, the pleats should sit somewhere behind your hips, under your armpits.

The military bend can take practice to get the folds straight and flat, and it works best on stiff, smooth fabrics that can hold the fold well. Use whenever you have excess fabric around the waist and sides of the shirt.

3) The underpants

No, I’m not talking about tucking your shirt into your underwear. While this method is effective, it can backfire if your doggie boxers are creeping up over your waist.

Instead, underpants refer to the need to properly tuck your undershirt into your underwear to ensure that the shirt sits between your underwear and your pants (as opposed to your undershirt and shirt sitting between your underwear and your pants ).

Believe it or not, this small difference has a huge impact on how your shirt stays tucked away throughout the day.

Your ideal curve, if you’re a camisole wearer, should be from your body outwards in this order: camisole, waistband of your underwear, regular shirt, waistband of your pants, and finally your belt.

Bad tucks

Aside from just not tucking in a shirt that’s made to be tucked in, there are a few bad ways to tuck it in:

The Half Tuck

Tucked in at the back, but one of the two shirttails in front (usually the left one—the one with the button, not the one with the buttonhole) stuck out and waved in front of the pants.

It’s supposed to be a sexy, just rolled out of bed look or something.

Unless you’re Brad Pitt, you just look like you did a bad job of dressing up after using the bathroom. It’s a step up from a piece of toilet paper stuck to your heel, but it’s not a huge step.

The Once Hidden One

Once you’ve made the decision to tuck in your shirt, commit to it. When you pull out a shirt that you’ve been wearing half the day, the bottom part gets wrinkled and creased — giving you a disheveled look. This is especially important if you’re wearing an open shirt; If you decide to bend some of the rules, it will be easier to pull them off if you at least pressed the shirt from top to bottom. Brett shows you how.

The tuck without a belt

Of course, tucking your shirt in reveals the top of your trousers (and therefore all the belt loops and buttons). If your pants have belt loops, wear a belt. If you don’t want to wear a belt, you should remove the loops. Most of my own pants use side straps instead of belt loops, so just know your preferences and buy the type of pants that suit you best.

Does cotton stretch or shrink?

Cotton will stretch when it is wet and shrinks when it dries. It can shrink up to 5%. Suppose you are washing a Flat sheet of 100% cotton fabric. Cold-water is best and recommended, to wash 100% cotton clothes.

Will 100% cotton shrink or not?

Yes, 100% cotton can shrink if you don’t wash it properly. Preshrunk cotton can shrink up to 2-5% or more, and if it’s not preshrunk it can shrink up to 20%. If you want 100% cotton to shrink, wash in hot water, if not, wash in cold water. Sometimes it shrinks more than expected, so we recommend reading the tags or the user manual. Let’s take a closer look at Will 100% Cotton Shrink.

Washing 100% cotton in cold water may cause shrinkage. So if you want the cotton to shrink use cold water otherwise plain water is best. When washing cotton in the machine, a gentle cycle and chemical-free detergents are recommended. You can use hot water for heavily soiled clothes. Cotton is a vegetable fiber that comes from the seed coat of cotton plants. It’s considered the workhorse of the stuff world, but it can be difficult to deal with at times.

What does sanforized mean?

If you read the labels on bedding or 100% cotton clothing, you will see the term pre-shrunk. This means the garment or fabric has been pre-shrunk using a proprietary process that resists shrinking in the washing machine and dryer. Clothing manufacturers often mix cotton with polyester or other – sometimes synthetic – fibers to reduce shrinkage.

care for cotton

To not worry about 100% cotton shrinking, be sure to read the label even before you buy it. Most of the time, cotton is extremely easy to care for and worry-free, but one trick of the craft is not to dry cotton fabrics thoroughly. Instead, remove them from the dryer while they’re still slightly damp. While they will wrinkle and shrink over time, letting them air dry is the best way to make them last longer.

Cotton clothes are very washable and can be washed at different temperatures. However, if you really believe in washing them in hot water, be sure to pre-treat any stains before washing as hot water can leave some stains such as grass and blood. Also, turn the garment inside out before washing as this will prevent the material from fading as quickly.

How to prevent cotton from shrinking?

So does 100% cotton shrink? The answer is yes, it can. In fact, it can shrink by up to 5%, which is roughly more than one size. Remember, it’s important to read all labels and follow washing and drying instructions. Many of today’s cotton items are blended with other fibers that can prevent possible shrinkage over time.

Will 100% cotton shrink in cold or hot water?

If you’ve read this far, you know cotton shrinks. Right! But does 100% cotton stretch? Yes it will stretch. Cotton both shrinks and stretches. It is necessary to know when it shrinks and when it stretches? Cotton stretches when wet and shrinks when it dries. It can shrink up to 5%. Suppose you are washing a 100% cotton bed sheet. Cold water is best and recommended for washing 100% cotton clothes. This way your hand will not shrink. Only use hot water if your sheet is heavily soiled and you want to shrink it. Hot water washing is the best way to remove germs and heavy soiling. You have to be very careful there. When washing clothes in hot water, do not soak clothes for a long time. It can fade the color of your fabric and damage its fabric.

How much does 100% cotton shrink?

People ask, will 100% cotton shrink a lot? There is always a constraint on something to do something. Using hot water (130oF or higher) can shrink it by up to 20%. For this reason, we recommend using cold water when washing cotton clothes. Another thing I would like to add is pre-shrunk clothing with tags. When you wash cotton clothes made from man-made fabrics like nylon. You can use warm water (90oF), best wash, which will not fade your clothes or damage your fabric.

Conclusion

So today we discussed a hotly debated topic about whether 100% cotton will shrink. The truth is yes. It will. We also discussed ways to prevent shrinkage. We also recommended reading all labels and following washing and drying instructions. However, if you follow these simple tips, your cotton garment or bedding will serve you well for many years to come.

Blends that look and feel like 100% cotton are also available on the market today. These blends make washing easier and can extend the life of the item. They also add value and are sometimes cheaper than an all-cotton item. Sometimes blending is meant to add extra quality or sometimes to make fabrics cheaper, but 100% cotton is the best fabric as it has so many good qualities by nature. This is why experts recommend a 100% cotton sheet set for sleeping and cotton clothes for wearing.

I hope you don’t ask anyone again, “Will 100% cotton shrink?”. If you still have doubts about Will 100% Cotton Shrink, feel free to comment and ask. I’m always here to clarify and ask for your doubts. I’m always here to clear your doubts.

What do girls find attractive in guys?

Women view a man who makes them laugh as more intelligent, better able to provide, and more physically attractive. Also, women may perceive their potential partner’s ability (or inability) to make them laugh to indicate how happy the relationship will be in the long term.

Does This Field Day Shirt Make Me Look Fast T-shirt Field

Figuring out the answer to the question “What do women find attractive” is a mystery to many men. It is usually easier for men to determine what makes a woman attractive than to understand the opposite: that is, what makes a man attractive to women. Despite this, many men realize that in order to attract a woman, they must first figure out what would attract her.

So what do women find attractive? Different women have different preferences, of course, but there are many elements that most women would agree are attractive in men. Read on to learn about seven of these common traits.

1) sense of humor

This website is owned and operated by BetterHelp, which receives all fees associated with the platform.

Some men might be surprised to know that a good sense of humor and making a woman laugh is one of the most important aspects of attraction for many women. A recent study from the University of Kansas showed that humor is a crucial step in the attraction process and makes a woman more likely to fall in love with a man.

Women see a man who makes them laugh as smarter, more powerful, and more physically attractive. Also, women can perceive their potential partner’s ability (or inability) to make them laugh to indicate how happy the relationship will be in the long run.

What constitutes a good sense of humor varies slightly from woman to woman. Still, many women would agree that intelligent humor that speaks on many levels is particularly attractive.

2) Style and Grooming

A man’s style and level of personal caring is a big part of what makes a man attractive to a woman. Some women might prefer an artistic style over a sporty style, but the important thing is that the man has more of a style than the style he wears. Women find it attractive when men take the time to make themselves beautiful.

Regular bathing, hair cutting, and trimmed nails (among other things) help men appear more attractive to women. In general, it pays to take the time to look after your body’s looks and overall well-being. Exercising, maintaining proper hygiene, and making time for self-care will help men be healthier and also be more attractive to women.

3) Listening and Conversational Skills

If you’re a good listener, a woman is more likely to fall in love. To win the heart of many women, it helps to seduce their minds. Listening carefully and engaging in meaningful conversations will show her that you value what she has to say and that you can hold your own in the conversation.

Good listeners ask questions, verbally or physically encourage the speaker to continue speaking, contribute thoughts (if desired), and make frequent eye contact. Paying attention to the conversation and remembering details later is an indicator of a good listener. Listening is an active process from start to finish.

When a woman determines her past attraction, it is by far one of the biggest factors in what makes a man attractive to her. If the woman feels that the man is listening and that he is genuinely interested in her, she will be much more attracted to him than if he hadn’t demonstrated good listening skills.

4) Kindness

Kindness encompasses a variety of actions, behaviors, and characteristics. Still, there are a few things that many women look for in a man that indicate his kindness. Women pay close attention to how a man treats other people around him and how he talks about the people he loves or is close to. For example, a woman will find it very important how a man talks about and with his family (especially his mother).

She will also observe how the man treats servers and other people in the service/retail industry. Does he stand up on the bus so that a pregnant woman or an elderly man can sit down? Is he friendly to the waiters in a restaurant? These are some specific examples of kindness that a woman looks for when going on a date.

5) Passion and initiative

Many women appreciate men who have interests and projects that he is passionate about. And when he’s taken the initiative to pursue those passions, it can dramatically increase his attractiveness. A simple example of this is when a man is passionate about a woman and strives to make her feel special.

If a man has a passion for his job or a serious hobby, such as playing a musical instrument or learning a foreign language, a woman will take notice and her interest will be piqued. This initiative to pursue a passion is a big part of what makes a man attractive.

6) trust

Looking for a place to talk about attraction and relationships? Our online therapists are here to help

This is a big deal. Don’t misinterpret that word though – confidence and cockiness are two very different things, the former being turn-on and the latter off-putting. Many women love men who are confident and confident, but also humble and grateful for the people around them. But a man who is cocky and shows no appreciation for the people or circumstances that helped him get to where he is now is not going to draw the attention of very many women.

Confidence is such an important part of what makes a man attractive because it shows that he is capable of handling difficult situations with strength and resilience. Confidence shows a woman that a man is comfortable in his own skin and able to take care of his own needs and not demand undue validation.

7) earn a living

Women are more likely to find it attractive when a man has a decent job that pays well and offers some level of security. The job doesn’t have to be fancy or high-paying, but it has to be something where the man can make a living and eat decently.

Even if a man has found a job he loves or enjoys, it can add to his attractiveness. Even if the job he has isn’t glamorous, finding joy in his work or being with the people he works with means his ability to adapt to circumstances and enjoy the little things in life . Having a job or a way to make a living is also a sign that he can commit long-term and stick with something, which bodes well for women looking for a long-term relationship.

Conclusion

After figuring out the easy part of what makes a woman attractive to men, comes the hard part of making a man attractive to women. Luckily, while it seems complex (and let’s face it, sometimes female attraction), some things will increase a man’s attractiveness almost instantly.

The qualities and traits listed above are among the most important to be attractive to many women. Just because a man has all of these qualities and traits doesn’t mean he will always attract the woman he’s interested in, but they will certainly improve his chances.

How do I know if my clothes are too small?

One of the most telling signs that a buttoned shirt or jacket doesn’t fit right is a visible “X” wrinkle around the closures. “If you’re seeing the fabric pull away from the button in a clear ‘X’ pattern, it means the garment is too small or too narrow,” Thomson-Sakhrani said.

Fashion experts explained to insiders why your clothes don’t fit right.

Clothing such as tight pants and corsets should not be difficult to move.

Oversized blazers and pants with flared pockets can be awkward.

When it comes to style, fit is just as important as fashion.

So Insider asked style experts to share a few telltale signs that a garment isn’t the right size or shape for your body.

Your shoulder pads should not sag

Celebrity stylist Carolyn Rubido told Insider that a blazer’s shoulder pads should never sag.

“If the shoulder pad hangs past your natural shoulder, it won’t fit properly,” Rubido said.

Many trendy women’s blazers are already cut larger so that a larger size is usually not necessary.

If your sleeves extend past your ankles, they’re probably too long

Your sleeves shouldn’t reach down to your ankles unless you want an oversized look. Kristini/Shuttershock

Unless you’re going for an extremely oversized look, long sleeves shouldn’t reach down to your ankles.

“Make sure the ends of your sleeves don’t go past the middle of the back of your hand,” Rubido said.

If it is difficult to find a piece that fits, tailors can usually shorten sleeves that are too long in a matter of minutes.

Your pants are probably too short if your socks are showing when you stand

The hem of your pants should sit on top of your shoes. Wirestock Creators/Shuttershock

James Thomson-Sakhrani, founder of Style Standard, told Insider that if you’re standing in slacks or jeans, you don’t want anyone to see your socks.

“Showing socks when standing usually means the pants are too short,” Thomson-Sakhrani said.

Likewise, don’t gather too much fabric around your ankles — the sweet spot is when the hem of your pants sits on top of your shoes without the fabric bunching.

Your tops shouldn’t form an “X” around the buttons

One of the most obvious signs that a buttoned shirt or jacket isn’t fitting properly is a visible “X” fold around the clasps.

“If you see the fabric peeling away from the button in a clear X pattern, it means the garment is too small or too tight,” Thomson-Sakhrani said.

The fashion pro added that in general, a buttoned garment should be loose enough that you can easily pull it a few inches away from your body.

The seam lines should match the natural length of your shoulders

A quick way to tell if your shirt is the right size is to simply look at the seam line that runs along the shoulders.

“If the seam goes past your natural shoulder, the shirt is too big,” Rubido said. “If the seam ends well before the point of the shoulder, the shirt is too small.”

A perfectly fitting shirt should have seams that end right at the natural edge of your shoulder.

Flared pockets are a sign of ill-fitting pants

Pockets should lie flat against your legs. goir/shutter shock

Flared pockets on both suits and shorts are a sure sign that your pants aren’t fitting properly.

“Protruding pockets mean your pants are too tight or the wrong cut for your shape,” Thomson-Sakhrani said.

Well-fitting bottoms should have pockets that lie flat against the sides of your legs.

Your clothes should not be uncomfortable to move in

If you can’t move as usual, your clothes don’t fit properly.

“You want to aim for a normal range of motion in your clothing, including being able to raise your arms or sit down without the fabric tightening on your thighs,” Thomson-Sakhrani said.

Other quick tests of movement include bending over without revealing your underwear and adjusting your arms without too much tension at the elbow.

If your corset is baggy, it’s probably too tight

Corsets are back in fashion. Victoria Chudinova/Shuttershock

Corsets and bodices inspired by them are back in style, but these form-fitting garments shouldn’t pinch your skin or deform when laced up.

“If your corset creases and you see gaps when you lace it up or close it, it’s too small,” Rubido said. “Your skin should also not overlap when you tie it.”

A corset should fit snugly against the body without making it difficult to move or breathe.

Men’s trousers shouldn’t normally be skin-tight and uncomfortable

If your dress pants or trousers are too tight against your butt, they may be too small.

“Modern men’s pants should sit at the waist and hang straight down for a looser effect,” Rubido said. “They shouldn’t hug your butt.”

Other indications that your pants are too tight include discomfort when sitting or a pinched waist.

Your shoes should not rub against your heels or ankles

Blisters on your toes can mean your shoes are too small. Diana Macias / Shuttershock

Chelsea von Ohain, chief stylist and founder of Gotcha Packed, told Insider that shoes that are the right size shouldn’t rub against your heels.

“If your heel is slipping in and out of your shoe and rubbing against your ankle, your shoes are too big,” von Ohain said.

On the other hand, blisters on your toes can mean that your shoes are too small.

If your waistband keeps riding up, your pants are probably too small

The waistband of a skirt or pair of pants should not move up when you move.

“Bundles that ride up, bend, or cause bulges indicate the need for a larger size,” von Ohain said.

Waist bands should either sit at the hips or, for a high-waisted look, at the natural waist or the narrowest part of your torso.

How can you tell if clothes are too small?

Explain to them how their outfit is wrong. Let them know that the short skirt and crop top are too small for their body. Tell them that the plaid pajama pants with puppies on it aren’t meant to be worn out in public and the stained shirt is on backwards. At first, they might be offended but they’ll get over it.

The way we dress says a lot about who we are as human beings. What we carry when we first meet someone is where they draw many conclusions about who we are. Sometimes we have friends who don’t conform to society’s standards, and sometimes that’s okay. But sometimes it could interfere with their daily life when it comes to finding a romance, a job or just making new friends. This can either be a fun topic or a really sensitive one when you confront the person. But sometimes you just gotta let your friends know they dress badly.

1. Let them know you care

2. Tell them why you question what they’re wearing

This can be a tricky situation. It’s always better to start with how much you care and appreciate them. Make sure they know you only want what is best for them. Don’t make them feel like this is an intervention, when in fact it is.

3. How her appearance affects her life

It’s always good to explain that you question what they’re wearing because it makes them appear a certain way. The crop tops your best friend wears might be a little too small for her, making her look a little too scandalous. Maybe the slouchy pants and stained t-shirt make her look a little sloppy.

4. Tell them what’s wrong with their clothes

Give them examples of how sloppy clothing could be the reason they can’t find a good job, or how their raunchy outfit is the reason men don’t take them seriously. Bring up past experiences in their lives and let them know that the reason something happened is because they dress poorly.

5. Ask them why they dress like that

Explain to them why their outfit is wrong. Let her know that the short skirt and crop top are too small for her body. 7. Give them inspiration

How do you know if clothes are too big?

If there’s puckering or wrinkling in the front panel, the pants are too tight. And if there’s billowing and fabric that doesn’t lie flat—often when you sit down—the pants are too big.

You know that valuable trousers fit you perfectly

To the right? Well, filling your wardrobe with similarly flattering items isn’t as difficult as it might seem. While the perfect pants, dress, and blazer may seem elusive, it’s just a matter of knowing what to look for in the dressing room. We spoke to the experts and learned what to focus on – and when to go to the Tailor to let them work their magic.

Suit trousers/trousers

Media platform design team

“The general rule of thumb is that you should be able to fit two fingers in the waistband to give yourself a little wiggle room,” explains Christine O’Donnell, boutique manager at Madame Paulette, a dry cleaning and alterations company in New York City . Since most women aren’t exactly the same size every day — “sometimes you get bloated,” she says, for example — it’s important that pants don’t suddenly become too tight.

Also remember:

• If the front is ruffled or wrinkled, the pants are too tight. And if it bunches up and the fabric doesn’t lie flat – often when you sit down – the pants are too big.

• Don’t worry if the bags look weird. “No matter how well designed the pants are and how well they fit you, the pockets tend to gape and create a bulge when you sit down,” says Ed Gribbin, president of Alvanon, a company that offers integrated fit and sizing solutions for the clothing industry. Instead of stripping off the pants, have the pockets removed. Madame Paulette often makes this change, as do dry cleaners across the country. It’s easy and you don’t even have to try the pants on so she can cut out the lining and sew up the seam quickly. The result? A smoother silhouette.

• Length is easy to change. If you love dress pants but they’re too long, get them hemmed. O’Donnell recommends asking for a hem that’s 1 inch off the floor if you want to show off your shoe a little, or a hem that’s 1 inch off the floor for ground-hugging styles like wide-leg pants. blazer

Media platform design team

“If you’re not comfortable driving your car or hugging your husband, your blazer is too tight,” says Carissa Brown, designer and maker of Carissa Rose, a clothing line for busty figures. Aside from obvious discomfort, look for a pull over your shoulder blades, which indicates a jacket that is too tight. If you’re comfortable until you button it up, it’s up to you whether you go for it or not. Many women like the look of an open blazer, and as Brown says, “Unless you’re a lawyer and you’re in front of a judge, you don’t have to button the jacket.”

Also remember:

• The shoulder seam should sit squarely on your shoulder. Too big and the jacket will look and feel too big. “The problem with buying a blazer is that a lot of fit models (the people that companies use to size their clothes) have broad shoulders,” Gribbin says. “And if that part doesn’t fit, the whole balance of the piece is going to be out of whack.” Since this is too tricky a change, take the time to find a brand whose jackets work with your proportions—you’ll go with the purchase be much happier.

• Sleeve length is a personal preference. O’Donnell likes her jacket cuffs to be an inch below the wrist and 1 inch above the ankles, but often alters blazers for women who prefer much longer or shorter sleeves. Photo: John Lawton/Woman’s Day

Jeans

Media platform design team

“The average woman tries on 15 pairs of jeans before deciding on one,” says Gribbin. “That’s how difficult it is to find a fit that makes you look good and is comfortable.” Why so hard? Since most companies use a fit model with a specific waist-to-hip ratio, “and if your body doesn’t fit that specific shape, you’re not going to be happy.” It may take some trial and error to find a brand that suits your figure; Gribbin recommends checking out Levi’s Curve ID line — the company analyzed 37,000 women to create three styles for a variety of shapes.

Also remember:

• Choose jeans that are fairly skinny, says John Mahdessian, President of Madame Paulette. Most jeans on the market today contain lycra or spandex. “These fabrics are like a rubber band and lose their stretch over time.” Since the heat of the dryer weakens the elasticity of the fabric, another option is to air dry your jeans to preserve their shape.

• “Ninety percent of the denim edits we make are foreshortening,” says O’Donnell. It’s an easy fix, but for an authentic look, she recommends asking your tailor to reattach the original hem. This way there are no false threads and your jeans will look the same as when you bought them. Photo: Alison Gootee/Woman’s Day

button down shirts

Media platform design team

The key to a properly fitting button down shirt is flat seams. Watch out for gaps between the buttons – which often happens with busty women. Shirts with a bit of stretch tend to sit smoother, but even if an otherwise flattering shirt gapes, all hope isn’t lost. O’Donnell often adds an additional hook-and-eye closure to shirts to fill the gap.

Also remember:

• Your shirt cuffs should reach just below your wrist and be able to peek out of the sleeve of a blazer. “You don’t want to wear a cuff that goes halfway down your wrist,” says O’Donnell. The extra fabric can look sloppy and create an unflattering proportion.

• Moving buttons is not easy. If your top button is too high and your bottom button is too low, it’s not a good idea to sew one in the middle. You must first find a matching button and then create a custom buttonhole. A better bet? Find another brand whose buttons suit you best, or wear a camisole underneath.

• A surprising but critical area of fit is the center of your hips—“the swing,” as it’s called in the apparel industry. “If you have fuller hips, button-down shirts can get tight and baggy and ride up as you walk around,” Gribbin says. Take a walk through the dressing room to make sure there is enough space in this area. Photo: Alison Gootee/Women’s Day

Dresses

Media platform design team

“Like a blazer, the shoulders are the hanger of the dress,” says Gribbin. “If it doesn’t fit there, it probably won’t drape properly or hang well on your body.” The next thing to check, he advises, is your hips. Dresses tend to be more forgiving in the middle and if the garment is well made, properly fitted shoulders should signal properly fitted hips as the two align.

Also remember:

• If the empire waist sits too high on your bust, there’s not much a tailor can do. “If the bust line doesn’t fit proportionately, it’s not the right dress for you. However, if that area fits, the rest of the dress should also fit well,” says O’Donnell. Hemming and raising the shoulders, on the other hand, are easy fixes.

• Beware of dresses with a fitted waist – they are the most difficult to put on. “Everyone has a different waistline,” says Gribbin. To find yours, simply stand up and bend from side to side—wherever you bend is your natural waistline. Dresses without a structured waist flatter most figures. Photo: Alison Gootee/Women’s Day

bras

Media platform design team

“Eighty percent of women are the wrong bra size,” Gribbin says. “And only 5 percent of women have undergone a professional bra fitting.” Just because most people won’t see it doesn’t mean a properly fitting bra isn’t essential for you to look — and feel — your best. (“Just look at Oprah!” he says, referring to the host’s famous “aha” moment about finding the perfect undergarment.) Make sure the middle core — the spot between the cups — sits flush against your breastbone, Brown says.

Also remember:

• Watch out for overflow. “You want the webbing to be completely surrounded by the cups — no bumps or lumps on or off the bra,” says Brown.

• Raise your arms a few times in the dressing room. The bra should remain anchored under your breasts and your back should lie flat without pulling away from your body.

• Do not discard a bra before fitting it. Tightening – or loosening – the straps can make a world of difference when it comes to support. Photo: Shutterstock

swimwear

Media platform design team

It’s no lie that women shy away from buying swimsuits. But as much as we want to blame our ailments on ill-fitting suits, part of the challenge can be in our heads. “Swimwear companies have some of the strictest quality controls there is. There are very small margins of error between sizes,” Gribbin says. “Technically, most of their products fit exactly the way they’re supposed to fit.” This may not be encouraging news at first, but it makes a strong case for visiting a department store with a wide range of brands and styles to find out what suits you once and for all.

Also remember:

• Swimsuit tops should fit like bras: no gaping, pulling or spilling.

• Look for swimsuit bottoms with adjustable sides – this way you can tighten or loosen the fit as you prefer and ensure the fabric doesn’t dig into your skin.

• A tankini (tank top bikini) should fit snugly without digging into the skin or bunching, gaping, or pulling down the middle. Photo: Alison Gootee/Women’s Day

How to Choose the Perfect T-Shirt Size

Everyone loves t-shirts. They are one of the most universal pieces of clothing ever. It doesn’t matter if you are male or female, young or old. They are great for sleeping or going to the gym. They are perfect to wear when you need to do gardening or yard work. They’re comfortable and easy to care for for a low-key Sunday hanging around the house and watching TV.

The longevity of the t-shirt

Trends have come and gone over the years, but the t-shirt is a staple that’s been here a long time and doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere anytime soon. One of the reasons for this universal appeal is how many situations it does well. Another reason is the absolute comfort.

While many button-downs, polos, sweaters, or dress shirts feel stiff, are too tight, or have uncomfortable collars, the t-shirt is soft, flexible, and wonderfully comfortable.

Another reason for the popularity of the t-shirt is its versatility. It can be worn alone or under an open button, or it can be tucked under a sweater or other shirt as an extra layer of warmth. They can be solid color, they can be patterned, or they can have wild designs and be covered with fun graphic images or quotes. You can look very casual or a little dressier, especially if you choose a solid color and wear it with nice blue jeans or khakis.

Find the perfect t-shirt size

What’s not great about t-shirts is how difficult it can be to find one that fits properly. In some cases, choosing the right t-shirt can be annoyingly complicated. It’s something that looks like it should be easy, but is actually very complicated. Many t-shirts seem to be stuck in the wrong places or hang awkwardly like a box or otherwise look awkward and ill-fitting.

At Goodwear, we believe that finding a t-shirt that fits you properly shouldn’t be that complicated. To help you learn how to find the perfect t-shirt that suits you and your body, we’ve put together a few tips and tricks.

5 tips & tricks to find the perfect t-shirt

It would be nice if t-shirt sizes were standard and every time you bought a size M from a store it was exactly the same size. Unfortunately, a medium in some stores is the size of an extra large in other stores.

Due to the large differences in the actual meaning of the size label, it is difficult to determine what size t-shirt you should be wearing.

The solution? Stop worrying so much about what size you are. Most likely you have a different size in each store you visit. Instead, try on a variety of sizes in every place you go and use your best judgment when evaluating how the shirt looks on you to determine which size you should buy.

When determining how a t-shirt should fit, consider the following:

1. Size/Strength

A well-fitting t-shirt should be neither too tight nor too loose. If it’s too loose, it’ll cling to you like a box and look completely unflattering. If it’s too tight, it’ll look like you’re being squeezed in and bursting at the seams at every point – a look that will almost certainly come across as conceited and annoying.

2. Shoulder seams

The shoulder seams are a good guide to how well a shirt fits you. Ideally, these seams should extend to the shoulder end at the top of the arm. If they reach up to the upper arm, the shirt is too big. If they don’t reach the end of your shoulder, the shirt is too small.

3. sleeve

The sleeves should reach about halfway up the upper arm. If you are exceptionally tall, you can certainly wear slightly longer sleeves as they will look more proportionate.

4. Length

The bottom hem of your t-shirt shouldn’t reach higher than your hips, otherwise it will be too small. It should cover your waistband and extend a few inches beyond it. When it’s shorter, it looks like a crop top when you raise your arms. If it’s longer, it looks like a dress. When trying on a t-shirt, make sure you raise your arms to see how far it rides up.

5. Shape

Many cheap t-shirts have no shape at all. They hang like boxes when you put them on and are extremely unattractive. Instead, look for a t-shirt that follows the lines of your body a little more. Avoid any that are cut in the shape of large squares.

How to measure yourself for a t-shirt

When it comes to choosing a size for a t-shirt, sizes can be anywhere on the map. This often makes them less than helpful. However, in some cases, the store or brand may provide a size chart.

A t-shirt size chart like ours can be helpful as it breaks down a list of measurements and tells you what size those measurements add up to. This way, for example, it’s easy to look at the chart for your bust size and see what shirt size someone with that measurement should wear.

When it comes to measuring yourself for a t-shirt, here are the measurements you should take:

1. chest

To measure your chest, wrap the tape measure under your armpits and around the fullest part of your chest. It is important to stand normally without flexing or bloating your chest. The tape measure should be snug, but not so tight that it impedes your breathing.

2. Length

The bottom hem of your t-shirt should go a few inches below your waistband. To measure the length you need, stand up straight and measure from the highest point of your shoulder to below your waist.

How to choose a t-shirt for your body type

Before you can choose the t-shirt that perfectly suits your body type, you need to know what body type you are. Let’s quickly go through the most common body types.

Rectangle: This body type is pretty self-explanatory. This means that your shoulders and waist are about the same width, giving a rectangular shape. People with this body type tend to be tall and lightly built.

Oval: The oval body type is very similar to the rectangular body type, but usually includes a larger frame and a softer center.

Inverted Triangle: This body type is the trapezoid taken to the extreme. The shoulders are much wider than the waist, and the shoulder-to-waist ratio forms an inverted triangle.

Not Inverted Triangle: This body type is the exact opposite of the inverted triangle and is characterized by a waist that is wider than the shoulders.

The 3 common t-shirt fits

The general rule of thumb when it comes to t-shirts is the same rule that applies to most clothing items. If you have muscles, don’t hide them. If you don’t have a lot of muscle, do your best to play what you have. And if you’re carrying extra weight, many styles will help you mask that.

A quick breakdown of some of the most common t-shirt styles includes:

Slim Fit: This fit is designed to be closer to the body. This is the perfect t-shirt if you want to flatter your figure.

Classic Fit: If you are looking for a looser and more comfortable fit, a classic-fit t-shirt is a perfect choice!

Modern Fit: Looking for a structured and stylish fit that doesn’t hug your body? A modern fit t-shirt is the perfect solution for you.

Why it’s important to invest in quality t-shirts

Anyone can go to their local department store or supermarket and pick up a TtShirt for a few dollars. A lot of people do, and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that.

However, there are some notable downsides to buying this type of t-shirts. The biggest difference is the lack of quality. These TtShirts are cheap, which means they’re affordable, but it also means they probably won’t last very long. You may have them for a season or a year, but they will soon crack, crack and lose their vibrant color.

Many cheap t-shirts are also made from cheap material that feels uncomfortable and scratchy. They also tend to shrink in the wash, meaning you’ll only get a few good wears from it before it’s too small for you.

It’s worth spending a little more and getting a quality t-shirt. The cost is more than offset by the lifespan. A nice t-shirt can last for years, while you might have to buy three or four cheaper t-shirts to last the same amount of time.

A more expensive t-shirt is also more comfortable. The fabric is made softer and gentler on your skin and often seamlessly sewn for more seamless clothing. It washes better and doesn’t shrink or lose its shape.

If you buy a more expensive t-shirt, you’re also more likely to find a size that fits you better and is more flattering on you. A lot of cheaply made t-shirts are cut in very standard, square, boxy shapes that aren’t flattering on anyone. To find a shape and design that really flatters your body, you’ll need to spend a little more money to get the quality that comes with a well-designed t-shirt.

How To Break In A T-Shirt

My favorite piece of clothing is without a doubt a good vintage t-shirt. Nothing can really compare to a t-shirt passed down from previous generations, worn and loved to an almost transparent softness, with holes in all the right places. I have a couple of my parents that have achieved this perfect quality but some shirts are a bit more stubborn. I tried the following remedy to find something more to my liking at a thrift store and am happy to report that it actually worked!

What you need:

Laundry soda (can be found in the laundry room at most grocery stores)

Salt

Sandpaper or heavy-duty scouring pads

directions:

Combine 1 cup salt with ¼ cup washing soda. Together these work to break up the fibers of the shirt and reduce stiffness. Place shirt in wash – to save water, place shirt in other loads of garments you want to soften in the same way (other shirts, towels, sheets, etc.). I’ve been working on this project for a few weeks now because you should put the shirt through this cycle about 3-5 times depending on the result. Run the wash on high heat and add the salt/washing soda mixture when the water is almost done to fill the machine. Then dry on high heat.

I washed and dried my shirt twice and then destroyed the tag with the scouring pad. It was easier to get results after the shirt was already a little worn from the wash. I also used the scouring pad on the neckline and the edges of the sleeves, which created tiny holes.

If you are happy with the tag and the holes, wash the shirt one or two more times. I wish I could include fabric swatches in this post so you can feel the result, but it’s definitely a lot softer and the holes look completely natural! If you have other methods of breaking in a t-shirt let me know.
