Documentary — Do It For Daniel
Michael Berens co-director/producer
Michael is a freelance cinematographer who has been filming sports and music in the Detroit area for over 25 years. His clients include Fox Sports Detroit, Fox, CBS, NBC, ESPN, ABC, Big Ten Network and TNT. Michael has worked for all the local teams in the Detroit area shooting basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer. He has worked on hundreds of events at the University of Michigan and Michigan State University and shot collegiate sports. Michael has filmed hundreds of music concerts in Detroit at Pine Knob & The Palace of Auburn Hills. He currently photographs the Detroit Pistons, Redwings, Tigers and travels the country filming college football for ABC/ESPN. A documentary lover, Michael produced Do It For Daniel with his wife Kammi. They hoped to learn more about depression and mental health by sharing Daniel Olson’s story. The goal… to change the stigma surrounding the MEDICAL condition depression. Help family and friends fighting this disease and save lives. Michael lives in Troy, Michigan with his wife Kammi. They have two amazing children Abbey & Gabe.
Kammi Young-Berens Co-Director, Producer/Writer
Kammi attended the Recording Institute of Detroit’s audio engineering school and has worked as an audio assistant at every Detroit Pistons game for the past 25 years. She also works in the Detroit Pistons’ front office as the broadcast coordinator. Her family has suffered greatly from mental illness and as a result she felt she had to help educate others and do something positive to change the world for the better. She is also a volunteer at Michigan’s Free Mom Hugs, which helps LGBTQ youth. She lives in Troy, Michigan with her husband Michael and has two wonderful adult children. Abbey, 24 years old and a physician assistant at a pediatrician in Lapeer, Michigan. Gabe is 19 and studies ballet at Mercyhurst University in Pennsylvania.

The charity was founded in 2021 in memory of Daniel Caplan. Daniel died from an aggressive DMG brain tumor. There is currently no treatment for this type of tumor. The charity campaigns for increased awareness and funding. We also offer gifts and holidays for children with any cancer diagnosis.
