Is FrogTape better than blue tape?

Blue Frog Tape Pro Grade has the highest tack of any Frog Tape on the market. This tape is ideal for hard to stick to surfaces such as metal and glass. Blue Frog Tape is also great for masking walls and trim that are fully cured, as well as any other place one might consider using a different type of tape.

The painter’s tape department at your local home depot can be overwhelming. Tape ranges from 1″ to 3″ wide, or anything in between. There is beige tape, black tape, blue tape, green tape, yellow tape and even some tapes with little frogs printed on the container. You will find that the tape with the frogs is slightly more expensive. Is Frog Tape Really Better Than Regular Painter’s Tape? And is it worth the extra investment or just a gimmick to make extra money?

Frog Tape claims to have paint blocking technology that prevents wet paint from seeping under the edges.

Green Frog Tape features color blocking technology

Anyone who has painted knows that paint seeps under the edge of painter’s tape. There’s nothing more frustrating than pulling up your tape and seeing a jagged, jacked, uneven line. After all, we bought the duct tape to make us look like better painters, right? As a professional, this phenomenon had always made me question the usefulness of tape as a whole. Why not just learn without painting it straight lines and save the $6 on a beer or lottery tickets (must play to win)?

The problem is that there are many situations where duct tape is actually necessary…

Duct tape is needed to protect the baseboard from the splash that comes off a roller when rolling walls. Tight corners that don’t quite have room for a full-size brush will need tape to cover areas that won’t be painted. Doorknobs and hinges are much easier to paint over if they are covered with masking tape. And in some cases, tape is required to keep wavy ceiling joints looking straight. Homeowners may not realize how crooked the joint can be where the wall meets the ceiling. This is particularly common in older homes that have been settled over many years. Even the steadyest professional hand will have a hard time making crooked ceiling joints look crisp and clean without the straight edge tape.

Sometimes painter’s tape is necessary

Should we spend the extra dollar on frog tape?

In a word, YES. Using Frog Tape really makes a big difference in the ease of the painting process. Despite the low grumbles heard from old-school painters around the world, Frog Tape has “reinvented” the wheel of painter’s tape in the best possible way. By eliminating color bleed (well, a drastic improvement at least), Frog Tape is easily one of the best industry innovations of the last 20 years.

Frog Tape Test. Clean, happy lines…

GREEN, BLUE, YELLOW, WHY ARE THERE SO MANY CHOICES?

The good folks at Frog Tape have put a lot of money into research and development. Green Frog Tape was the first version to hit store shelves (and the marketing was brilliant). The yellow “sensitive surface” variant soon followed, followed a few years later by the blue Pro Painters Grade tape. For the pro, all of these tapes have niches, which I’ll discuss in more detail below.

Clean lines with Green Frog Tape

Green Frog Tape when to use:

Green Frog Tape is the best choice for your daily painting needs. This versatile painter’s tape works for a wide variety of tasks. Green Frog Tape has a medium tack (slightly less than typical painter’s tape) and is safe on most surfaces. Masking off carpets and fully cured walls is a common place to use this version.

Yellow Frog Tape is the best choice when you need to mask something with a delicate finish. The low tack is just enough for the tape to stick to surfaces without being so sticky that it can cause damage. Yellow Frog Tape is best for taping closets, spindles, hardwood floors, or any newly painted surface that has not been cured for at least 3 weeks.

Blue Frog Tape Pro Grade has the highest tack of any frog tape on the market. This tape is ideal for hard-to-stick surfaces such as metal and glass. Blue Frog Tape is also great for masking walls and trim that are fully cured, or anywhere else where using a different type of tape might be considered.

Helpful Pro Tip for Frog Tape:

Make sure you wipe down all surfaces before applying Frog Tape. Press the tape down with a spatula and make sure the tape has good contact/adhesion to the surface. And lastly (drum roll please…) use a slightly damp rag to wipe over the edge of the Frog Tape. By wetting the edge, the paint-blocking chemical activates before you start painting, creating a strong seal for added insurance against paint bleeding.

Is permanent double-sided tape really permanent?

Longevity. Double-sided tape is either removable or permanent. The removable variety is meant for temporary use and is easily removed. Permanent tapes are used mostly in industrial manufacturing, but strong tapes are also available for home use.

Your Guide to 3M VHB Tape

Move over, duct tape, there’s another duct tape that has almost as many uses. Double sided tape can be used to adhere any two surfaces you want to stick firmly together – without glue or nails – in craft, household, industrial or manufacturing applications.

With so many products to choose from, it can be difficult to choose the best double sided tape for your projects. We’ve done the legwork for you and created this comprehensive review to help you make the right purchase.

What to look for when choosing the best double-sided tape

Double-sided tape is a versatile, inexpensive alternative to gluing. Pressure-sensitive adhesive is exposed on both sides of the tape, which allows two items to be joined together. The adhesive is on a carrier material, which can range from a film that is only a fraction of a millimeter thick to a foam several millimeters thick.

Unlike single-sided tape, double-sided tape creates an invisible bond between two objects. Additionally, it takes very little time to form the bond – all you have to do is peel and stick. Tape is commonly used to hang signs or temporary displays, attach foam to wall panels or floor pads to floors, secure and hold carpets in place for large events or trade shows, and more. The type of double-sided tape you need depends on the application.

When purchasing double-sided tape, you should consider the type of tape, amount of adhesive, thickness, width, application setting, and other factors. Below are some general characteristics to consider when choosing the right double sided tape for your project.

Type

There are different types of double-sided tape with different backing materials, each serving a specific purpose. Double-sided tapes fall into one of the following categories:

Cloth tape is the most common type used for light-duty bonding jobs. It is mainly used for stationery, art, craft projects, office and general applications. Double-sided cloth tape tears easily and is thin enough to stick to irregular surfaces. It’s also inexpensive and a good alternative to glue.

It is stronger than cloth tape and weather resistant, making it ideal for indoor and outdoor use. Double sided acrylic tape should only be used where permanent bonding is required.

Floor tape is used on floor surfaces such as carpets to hold items such as rugs or rugs in place. They have a medium adhesive strength, which allows for residue-free removal.

used on floor surfaces such as carpets to hold items such as rugs or rugs in place. They have a medium adhesive strength, which allows for residue-free removal. Double-sided tape has either acrylic or rubber adhesive. Acrylic adhesives are stronger but more expensive, and rubber adhesives are generally cheaper but less suitable for long-term applications. Acrylic glue is also more heat and light resistant than rubber.

thickness and width

Double-sided tape has either thick or thin bonding systems. Tapes with thick bond systems adhere well to unusual, uneven, or heavily patterned and textured surfaces. This type of tape usually has a foam backing. Thin binding systems are significantly thinner. Sometimes the backing is so thin it’s practically an adhesive on a silicone liner. These tapes are best suited for light adhesive applications.

The width varies quite a bit with double sided tape. Rolls are available in widths from less than 1/4 inch to several inches wide. Each type of tape has multiple width options to suit your project.

adhesive surfaces

The right double-sided tape for your project depends on the surface of the two objects you want to stick together. Surface energy is the degree of attraction or repulsion that one material exerts on another material. Double sided tape works best on high surface energy surfaces such as glass, glazed tiles and bare metals. The surface energy of plastic can vary quite a bit, but in general it’s best to use a heavier tape. Then there’s silicone, which has such a low surface energy that traditional adhesives won’t stick to it. Silicone needs a very sticky glue or one specifically designed to stick to it.

You can use thinner tape for flat and smooth surfaces such as glass, aluminum and PVC. For rougher surfaces like wood, cement, brick, and stucco, thicker tapes work best. Painted or coated surfaces also require a thicker, stronger tape.

Surroundings

The environment plays an important role in the adhesion of double-sided tape. Is the tape for indoor or outdoor use? Some tapes are not designed for outdoor use.

For outdoor adhesive tapes, the weather influences the adhesive quality. The cooler the temperatures, the weaker the resulting bond will be. But high heat isn’t good for adhesion either – it can cause the glue to melt and the bond to come loose.

Dust, grease or moisture can also impair the connection between two surfaces. Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol and ensure it is completely dry before application to ensure a stronger bond.

object weight

Double-sided tapes are rated by the maximum load they can hold. In general, thicker bands hold more weight. Also, tapes with acrylic-based adhesive hold more weight. However, the strength of the connection depends on the surface and weight of the object.

The load capacity is determined by the adhesive viscosity of the tape. Adhesive viscosity is similar to liquid viscosity – if it flows easily, it has low viscosity; if not, it has high viscosity. However, the viscosity rating for double-sided tape essentially determines how well it sticks to uneven surfaces. For rough surfaces, viscous tape is preferable, as it spreads into all nooks and crannies of the uneven surface. Smooth surfaces don’t need such thick tape.

With some tapes, the viscosity increases as the tape cures on the surface, strengthening the bond.

Choose a belt that best matches the surface energy of your items and consider the maximum stress rate.

longevity

Double-sided tape is either removable or permanent. The detachable variant is intended for temporary use and can be easily removed. Permanent tapes are mainly used in industrial manufacturing, but strong tapes are also available for home use. These tapes are typically used in place of glue or nails to permanently hold two objects together.

The longevity of the bond depends on the strength of the adhesive and the environment. In air-conditioned environments, most double-sided tapes will stay connected until you remove them. In outdoor environments, the bond is exposed to heat, cold and moisture, eventually causing the bond to deteriorate.

distance

There may be times when you need to remove double-sided tape. Luckily for most of them, a little heat will melt the glue and break the bond. You can use a hair dryer or heat gun to heat the surface and slightly melt the glue. Sometimes the tape will peel off one side but hold on to the other. Apply more heat to break the bond.

If heat does not remove the adhesive, try commercial residue cleaners. These products work by dissolving the sticky adhesive on the tape, making it easier to remove. Pour some onto the tape and leave for a few minutes, then scrape off.

Prevent deck rot with flashing tape

Water damage can be your home’s worst enemy. Of course, we all know to watch out for leaky pipes and protect ourselves from flood damage. But what about those hidden areas that aren’t visible – how do we go about waterproofing? Which building materials or building products can make the biggest difference for a small price?

Flash tape or flash membranes.

Anywhere water can cause damage, you may find lightning on a construction site. Whether it’s window tape, window sills, clapboard roofing, vinyl siding, or door jambs, this is a useful material based on building science.

Consider the wood that supports your deck and the wood that connects your deck to your home. These are two critical spots where water seeping through your decking can cause hidden damage if your joists and joists aren’t protected.

Using a good quality masking tape can protect the top of the joist, edge joist and ledger from rot and wood rot. A butyl-based tape blocks moisture and helps deck screws last longer, and it’s more durable than acrylic or asphalt-based tape. Masking tape acts as a barrier between wood and galvanized metal, such as B. Joist hangers. It also helps seal deck attachments and prevents moisture ingress, prevents splitting from freeze and thaw, and provides a non-slip surface making it safer during installation.

You can look at metal tape for some purposes, but for wood you should use tape that’s more rubbery. Flashing tape usually comes in three types: acrylic tape (G tape), butyl, and bitumen. Bitumen, which is made from petroleum and asphalt, dries out over time and reduces the effectiveness of flashing. Remains butyl or acrylic. Butyl rubber tape has many advantages over acrylic-based tape. Butyl tape like Trex Protect is tackier, resists stains less, swells less at high temperatures, and can be applied over a wide range of temperatures. Butyl tape is also more rubbery than acrylic-based tape, which allows it to flow better around the screws to create a tighter seal.

easy installation

Any contractor or DIY enthusiast will advise you to purchase a butyl tape that is easy to install and requires little trimming. A self-adhesive butyl tape applied directly to the panels requires minimal cuts with little overlap.

Strength

When applying masking tape to your joists and joists, you should be careful to buy tape that is not too thin and not too thick. With thin tape you risk the long term durability of the tape. A thicker band can be difficult to install. You want a tape that will last as long as your joists and joists. Trex Protect is available in two widths: 1-5/8″ (4.12 cm) for joists and 3-1/8″ (7.94 cm) for double joists.

Guaranteed results

Trex Protect is guaranteed to stand the test of time. It comes with a 20 year guarantee, so it will last as long as the patio that supports it. Acrylic tape only has a 300 day guarantee.

Flashing tape for decks

The average deck begins to suffer water damage within 8 to 10 years. Powerful Trex Protect fights rot and protects against costly future water damage—at a low cost. For an average-sized 12′ x 24′ patio, you will need five rolls of Trex Protect Joist Tape and one roll of Trex Protect Beam Tape. With an investment of less than $100, the decking substructure can last as long as the deck it supports. The easy-to-install, self-adhesive Trex RainEscape Wall Flash seals the space between your home and the ledger bar to keep water out. Best used when building a new patio, wall flashing is another small investment with significant returns.

Trex RainEscape® Wall Flash is backed by a 20-year warranty from Trex, the world’s leading brand of composite decking. Watch this video to see how Trex RainEscape® protects Wall Flash.

How to install Flashing Tape

Applying self-adhesive masking tape is a relatively simple process with four main steps.

Start preparing your surface. Trex Protect Joist & Beam Tape is applied to horizontal and vertical surfaces. Trex Protect Tape comes in two widths, making it convenient to apply to double joists and joists. Use 1–5/8” (4.13 cm) joist tape for joists and 3–1/8” (7.94 cm) joist tape for all double joists.

For best results, Trex Protect Tape should be applied in a temperature range of 10˚C (50˚F) or higher. Observe processing temperatures. If installing in cold weather or wet joists, staple Trex Protect to hold it in place while installing decking. The tape will seal when the product heats above 4.5°C. Trex Protect works well in high temperatures.

When dragging deck boards onto the deck, a piece of plywood or waferboard can be used to overhang the edge of the deck. This prevents the product from rolling up and pulling up off the beam.

Clean the beam surface and make sure it is dry and free from dirt. Open the package and remove the backing while applying the tape directly to the surface. Run your hand over the band and press firmly onto the bars. After covering the joists and joists with tape, use a utility knife or scissors to cut the tape to length.

When planning your deck building, don’t forget the flashing tape. You have many more years to enjoy your deck! Don’t let wood rot become the enemy of your beautiful outdoor living experience.

Glazing Tape or Low Modulus Sealant?

The whole idea behind dry glazing is that you don’t use sealants like silicone. If silicone is able to keep ALL moisture out, then that’s fine. Usually it doesn’t do this though, in which case it lets some moisture into the system but doesn’t let it out, causing rot. Dry glazing recognizes that it is almost impossible to keep all moisture out and therefore allows it to escape when it does get in, preventing rot.

I see no reason why you shouldn’t replace your aluminum threshold with a wooden door. I would probably try to do it in oak, but a well treated softwood would work too. I would treat it the same as the other wooden beads… see below.

I always glaze my wooden windows myself, but I use a fairly lengthy but very solid process. I buy my windows blank and then treat them myself with wood preservative (fungicide and pesticide). Once the preservative has thoroughly dried, I paint everything that faces the outside with at least 2 coats of the best oil paint I can get (usually Dulux by Brewers). I paint all faces of all the beads, all faces of the interior frames that hold the double glazing units, and then the rest of the outside of the window frame and openers. I leave the insides of the frames bare wood because we like the rustic farmhouse look. Once the paint is completely dry I start the glazing by first gluing the glazing tape to the inside of the frames and then lowering the glazing units onto the tape. You may need spacers/guides here to ensure the glazing units are completely square and centered in the opening. (Yes, I messed up a few on my first attempts, but I’m pretty good at it now.) Once the glass panes are in place, I then apply the outer glazing tape to the window, and then place the beads on top of that. Then I nail the beads with stainless steel nails, countersink them with a center punch, and they seal and varnish them once the sealer is dry. It’s all a bit of a chore, but I’ve been doing this for 12 years now and have slowly but surely replaced every aluminum window in my house.

Your Guide to 3M VHB Tape

You’ve probably heard people say that tape is the solution to all of life’s problems, and they’re pretty much right. The right tape can handle any challenge you throw at it, and it’s quick to apply so you can get back to work. It’s also very likely the solution you need in your business right now.

In any business things are likely to break, get damaged or just need to be connected, and in your job this happens quite often, or maybe you just need to connect two things permanently. Since the need to put things together is a constant variable in your business, it only makes sense that you’d want to buy something that does the things you need to take care of so you can move on to the next task.

If this is the case for you, consider investing in 3M VHB double-sided tape. One of the strongest tapes ever released, 3M VHB offers industrial-strength performance and rises to every challenge you throw at it – and wins. But how can you be so sure that a piece of tape will do the job you need it to do? Can VHB tape really stand up to the tough jobs you have to deal with?

Not only does it stand up to the job, but it copes with any task. This article explains everything you need to know about 3M VHB tapes, including what it is, what it can do, and why you should seriously consider buying one for your business needs. Keep reading this article to learn more!

So what exactly is 3M VHB Tape?

There are many types of tape available on the market today. Many of them are only intended for simple household items or make office work a little easier. Others are for a specific purpose, such as B. professional painter’s tape or reflective tape used on commercial vehicles. In any case, it’s not often that you find a type of tape that’s built to handle the toughest challenges in the industry.

3M VHB industrial tape is an adhesive that will change the game.

VHB tape is a quick and efficient solution for indoor and outdoor bonding. And we don’t mean it’s a temporary fix until you find a better product; 3M tape is the solution. This tape is designed to be a permanent method of bonding to virtually any surface including metal, wood, glass and many surface active plastics and paints.

3M VHB Tape is made from an acrylic foam that is inherently viscoelastic (in other words, it is very resilient but retains its strength properties while being stretched to conform to any object. This gives the foam energy-absorbing and stress-relieving properties, allowing it to fit perfectly on any surface and even move with the object it’s attached to.

VHB tape also comes in many different subcategories or “families” of adhesive types. Because no job is ever the same, you can purchase the specific 3M VHB tape that’s right for your conditions. For example, the ’49’ family excels on a wide range of surfaces including glass and plastic, while the ’59’ family excels on most powder coated plastics and the RP family is aimed at metals and mismatched surfaces .

For these reasons, 3M double-sided VHB tape is a consistent choice for many industrial applications and continues to help companies find effective solutions to industrial problems.

What benefits can I expect from 3M VHB Tape?

There are a lot of benefits that come with using 3M VHB tape and many more uses are being made for it as it becomes more and more popular in the industry. We will list just some of the most popular reasons here.

1. It’s one of the hardest things out there

This point must be emphasized first of all. 3M VHB tape offers one of the strongest bonds of any adhesive. In fact, VHB has been credited with having a very strong bond in the industry (it’s literally in the name). Its adhesive properties alone give it an incredibly durable grip on any surface, but combined with its elastic properties it can absorb the shock of any load, making it perfect for both static and dynamic uses.

In addition, the strong adhesive mixture in the tape ensures that it is strong and long-lasting. 3M VHB tape can stay in place for many years and will do the job just as well as it did when first applied.

2. It can work in extreme temperatures

Every product has a limit on the hot or cold conditions it can work in, and the same goes for tape. Most adhesives have a limited temperature range, with their cooling spectrum ending at 10 degrees Celsius or 50 degrees Fahrenheit. 3M double-sided VHB tape is much more durable and can withstand freezing temperatures of 0 degrees Celsius or 32 degrees Fahrenheit on average.

3. The band can conform to any shape

You undoubtedly work with equipment made up of a multitude of complex parts. In most cases, these parts are too difficult to attach properly with traditional adhesives, and fasteners have a fixed shape that may not completely solve the problem.

VHB tape can come in handy and fix any situation no matter what it is. Tape’s contouring abilities allow it to stretch, squeeze and otherwise mold around any surface with ease, and its foam-based material helps it flow into microscopic irregularities in the item and seal them all, creating a powerful and long bond is guaranteed – permanent bond.

4. You can’t see it

No seriously. If you use 3M VHB 5952 tape, you can’t see anything after you attach it. That’s because the tape becomes virtually invisible once it’s applied, giving you results that look as smooth as they are. In this way, too, 3M VHB goes one step further for its customers.

5. You can use it to match different materials

You may be limited with traditional adhesives and fasteners as to what you can use them for. In most cases, fasteners are only designed to work a certain way in a certain material, and while adhesives can be used on a decent range of surfaces, they’re still limited to certain types of surfaces due to the materials they might be made of Connections limited by.

3M VHB tape has no limitations. Not only can VHB tape hold almost any surface imaginable together, it also easily holds surfaces made of dissimilar materials together. Feel free to mix and match metal with wood, wood with plastic or whatever your heart desires; The VHB tape holds it together, giving you guaranteed security.

6. It offers twice the performance

3M VHB tape has not just one, but two sides of adhesive power, giving you twice the strength and twice the power every time you use it. That means it doesn’t just cover cracks or fasten small sections; Capable of joining entire pieces together on either side, VHB tape offers its strength to complete even the largest of projects.

Why would I swap out 3M VHB tape with my usual fasteners?

We know you’re very fond of your traditional fasteners, and tradition is a great thing. However, sometimes change is needed to do more and take your business to new heights. With 3M VHB tape, you can expect just that. Here are a few reasons why you should change things up.

1. It is very inexpensive

Have you ever counted how much you spend on all your rivets, clamps, bolts and other brackets and fasteners? You probably haven’t, but we’re pretty sure it’s quite a lot – so much that you’re better off not looking at the numbers for fear of cringe.

Buying 3M VHB Tape is about as cheap as you can get when it comes to fasteners – but that doesn’t mean it’s in no way an inferior product. In fact, VHB tape is on par with (and arguably better than) almost any other fastening product on the market and will help you solve your problems for only a fraction of the price.

2. One size

Not only can fasteners be a drain on the wallet, but they can also be cumbersome, hard to find when you need them and easy to lose when you have them. This can cause delays in the work progress and make it difficult to reach the goal at hand.

With VHB tape, your chances of being caught by this problem are drastically reduced. Tape can be used in place of a fastener on almost any project; Just take the tape, place or wrap it around the material and voila! The problem is solved and the material can be used once the tape is fully bonded to the surface.

3. No need for the extra mechanical work

Suppose you want to use a new fastener to connect two parts, but those parts don’t have the right female counterparts to easily place the fasteners. To connect them you need to modify the pieces so the clasp fits properly. This could end up causing more problems than it’s worth.

Drilling, riveting, welding, and other forms of part modification are very time consuming, especially if you don’t have the equipment or expertise to do it yourself in the field. Not to mention, you may also need to change the type of fasteners used, which could mean doing a custom manufacturing job. All this leads to an unnecessary waste of time and money.

3M VHB tape does not require any of these modifications, professional processing, or extra money to work its wonders. It really is as simple as applying a strip of masking tape along the areas that need to be taped and that’s it. The only “extra” in this equation is that it’s extra fast.

Get your own band today

It is clear that 3m VHB tape is one of the best adhesive and fastening solutions ever offered on the industrial market and having your own tape would only benefit your business tenfold.
