After preparing a cocktail, have you ever wondered where Jägermeister comes from? Glad you asked! Jägermeister was invented by Curt Mast in 1934. Since 1918, when he took over his father’s business, he concentrated on the sale and distribution of fine wines.
But hard times fell on the company when it had to diversify. Curt decided to create a very special liqueur. By 1934 he had perfected his recipe.
A total of fifty-six different natural ingredients make up the Jägermeister taste. Today the recipe is unchanged from the perfected 1934 version. It’s a closely guarded company secret, but some of the ingredients include citrus peel, licorice, and ginseng. The blend is aged in oak barrels for a full year before being bottled.
Translated, Jägermeister means “master hunter” and Curt Mast was an avid hunter. He dedicated his new liqueur to his fellow hunters.
