If it weren’t for corner molding and drywall trim, exterior drywall corners and edges that abut other materials would look uneven and uneven. Otherwise, a great deal of time would be spent building up or refining corners into a straight, sharp edge with cutting tools and joint compound. While such an endeavor can work in the short term, even minor impacts and building settlement would easily damage the corners.

Metal corner bead

The most common and cheapest cornice molding is galvanized metal. It attaches easily with your choice of nails, screws, staples, compound or glue, is rust resistant and will withstand even minor abuse once installed. Vinyl corner molding is the plastic version of metal and is less prone to damage in transit. You can also install it using the same variety of techniques, although you may need a special bonded/adhesive product if you are not using mechanical fasteners.

Drywall J-Bead & L-Bead

J and L beads are so called because of their cross-sectional profiles. If you look down the length of a piece you will see that the flanges take the shape of the letter they refer to.

J-Beads cover the edge of a wall panel where it does not terminate in a corner, such as around the inside of an attic entry opening or where drywall meets an acoustic panel grid.

L-angle, where one flange is longer than the other, covers the drywall edge where it meets another material, such as sheet metal. B. a wooden window sill, a chimney masonry or a worktop.

The cladding overcomes typical problems caused by building movement and settlement which can cause the cladding to delaminate and become visible.
