What is the shortest coffee maker?

Less than 5-inches wide, this machine will fit everywhere and anywhere. If you’re a coffee-lover, you’re going to love the Keurig and the K-Slim Coffee Maker.

Which single serve coffee maker is easiest to clean?

Fans loved: “The Ninja coffee maker is the best I’ve ever owned. It not only looks great, it’s super easy to clean. I especially like the detachable water tank. No more water spillage during pot to tank transfers & the tank is dishwasher safe, so it can be sterilized after every brewing.

Best Coffee Makers for the Elderly – Drinks Without Borders

A good cup of coffee isn’t just about the beans you use or even how high-tech your machine is. To get a perfectly smooth brew, you need a machine free of mineral buildup, chlorine aftertaste, or stale grist trapped in the components. Your best bet for a perfect cup of caffeine is to invest in one of the easy-to-clean coffee makers on Amazon.

Here are some of the things to look for in a coffee maker that will make cleaning a breeze.

A self-cleaning function

Some coffee makers have a setting or button that initiates the machine into a “self-cleaning cycle” that helps flush out oil and residue. This is a handy feature that thankfully isn’t overly complicated – basically you would fill your water tank with a cleaning solution (vinegar and water work really well), which would then run through the internal parts as soon as you press start.

Removable and dishwasher safe parts

Coffee machines with removable parts – like the water tank, filter basket and/or carafe lid – are ideal because you can wash them all separately if necessary. Washing these parts in the sink is much easier and more thorough than bending over the coffee maker with a dishcloth or brush. Plus, many of the machines on our list have some dishwasher-safe parts for an even easier cleaning process.

Additional tips for a clean coffee maker

To make your brewer even more efficient, consider buying a tool like a coffee brush to brush dirt out of the nooks and crannies. You can also do a monthly full cleaning with a descaling solution instead of a vinegar mix. Finally, many machines use an activated carbon water filter, which you should replace per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Cleaning your machine helps keep your coffee flavorful, prevents bacteria and mold from forming, and keeps your coffee maker system from clogging and eventually stopping.

Luckily, the five easy-to-clean coffee makers below help get the job done faster while brewing a great cup of coffee at the same time.

1 Best Overall Ninja Easy-Clean Drip Coffee Maker 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker Amazon $80 See On Amazon With a 4.5-star rating and more than 2,300 reviews, this Ninja coffee maker gets high marks for its ease of cleaning and the quality of its brew . It’s the only drip machine on our list with a fully removable water reservoir, meaning it’s just as easy to take it to the sink to wipe off as it is to fill it back up with fresh water. Its reusable coffee filter has a lower environmental impact than its paper counterparts and can also be removed for cleaning. Best of all, the container, 12-cup glass carafe, and strainer are all dishwasher safe. The ninja machine also has a planning function and lets you choose from one of two crew strengths. Fans raved: “The Ninja coffee maker is the best I’ve ever owned. Not only does it look great, it’s also super easy to clean. I particularly like the removable water tank. No more spilling water when transferring from pot to tank and the tank is dishwasher safe so it can be sterilized after each brew. Best of all, the coffee tastes delicious!”

2 This drip coffee maker that reminds you when it needs cleaning Cuisinart Thermal Coffeemaker Amazon $90 See On Amazon This clever coffee maker takes the guesswork out of when your machine needs a little maintenance—the “clean” button on the machine turns red lets you know when your machine needs to be descaled. To start, simply add water and vinegar to the water tank and turn on the cleaning program, which runs on its own for about 20 minutes. One of the other notable features is the thermos, which keeps coffee warm longer than glass versions. The machine features a replaceable charcoal water filter that ensures your cup of joe tastes great. You should just make sure you change out a new filter about every 60 uses. This 12-cup Cuisinart machine is BPA-free and features a 24-hour timer and stronger brew setting. Fans raved: “I’ve owned Cuisinart Thermal Carafe coffee machines for almost 20 years and I love them. They keep the coffee hot and it never burns! But this one is my favorite for its features: 1-4 cup mode, pause and take a cup before the pot is done, cleaning mode, and water filter. They are all a plus. Another feature I appreciate is a lower profile so it’s easier to fill and fits better on the counter.”

3 The best coffee maker with a grinder Cuisinart Grind & Brew Automatic Coffeemaker Amazon $73 See On Amazon If you love aromatic, freshly ground beans, then this coffee maker with a built-in grinder is for you. The separate grinding chamber, filter basket and screen filter are removable, making them easy to rinse and air dry, or if they need a more thorough cleaning, they can be thrown in the dishwasher along with the glass carafe. The machine is equipped with a replaceable activated carbon water filter and a scratch-resistant, non-stick heating plate that is easy to wipe clean. There’s also a small brush that comes with the machine to remove coffee grounds from hard-to-reach corners. It can brew up to 12 cups of coffee and has a 24-hour program setting that includes an option for grinding and instant brewing when you wake up in the morning. Fans loved: “I love this coffee maker. It’s easy to use and so far easy to clean, just a quick rinse. The only downside is that the grinder can be noisy, but only for a minute. So if you have kids, you might want to only brew when they’re awake, or turn off the grinder and use pre-ground beans. Love the pot, it’s really no spilling. I also love that it stays warm for 4 hours, which is great if you’re going to be cleaning all day.”

4 Best Single-Serve Coffee Maker Sboly K-Cup Coffee Maker Amazon $60 See On Amazon This single-serve machine is about as straightforward as it gets when it comes to making hot beverages at home. To use it, throw in a K-cup sized pod or add your own coffee grounds to the included strainer basket. Then just throw away your used pod or leftover grind and it’s good for the next cup. Since you fill in fresh water for each brew, there is no water in the machine all day long. In addition, you can activate the automatic cleaning function by pressing the CAPSULE and GROUND buttons at the same time so that hot water in the water tank flushes through the spout and cleans it for you. However, to ensure it’s properly cleaned, the manufacturer recommends adding water and vinegar every two months — or after brewing more than 200 cups of coffee — and running the automatic cleaning program until the container is empty. Fans were delighted: “I love this little machine. Easy to use, easy to clean. I recommend them to anyone who needs a basic coffee maker. Great if you’re the only coffee drinker in the house There’s no one drinking it. I can make a delicious cup at a time.”

5 Most Affordable BLACK + DECKER 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker Amazon $26 See Amazon options on this list. The 12-cup carafe is easy to clean with soap and water or put in the dishwasher with the removable filter basket. The heating plate has a non-stick coating that makes wiping up coffee stains easier. Fans raved: “I’ve had it for almost a year and it’s still going strong. I run a full pot of plain water once a month and a pot of hot water with some white vinegar in it once a year, but other than that I use it every day and just rinse it out. No mold issues or anything, seems easy to clean and maintain. It’s a bit clunky but does the job.”

The best super-automatic espresso machines of 2022

You want to wake up every morning with the perfectly brewed, silky smooth, flavorful cup of coffee. But you don’t want to drive to the coffee shop every day to get it. You need the best fully automatic espresso machine. Not that easy, we know that.

Choose the right one and start each day off on the right foot – the perfect cup of coffee in your hand. Pick the wrong one and you’ll end up with watery, weird-tasting brown gloop and a feeling of immense regret having just squandered over $900.

Below is a list of our picks for the best automatic espresso machines – no junk, no regrets. We also reveal a little-known secret that can help you save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on your purchase.

How to choose the right machine for your needs

Since automatic espresso machines are so expensive, you must read this next part carefully or risk making the wrong choice and wasting a large sum of money.

So how do you choose the best fully automatic espresso machine for you?

Here are a few things to look out for when choosing the best automatic espresso machine, but note that we’re not talking about Nespresso machines (they’re not quality machines).

Related Topics: Find the Best Manual Lever Machine or Top Rated Espresso Machines.

Programmability – how much do you need?

This determines how much control you have over the brewing process.

Although fully automatic espresso machines do the work for you, many of them still allow you to choose from a range of settings or pre-programmed options. With fully automatic espresso machines, you may want to control the grind, temperature, or shot strength. With some fully automatic espresso machines you can adjust almost every detail, while others are mainly intended to run with a standard program:

They do some of the work for you… Choose a program and press a button. It’s a lot harder to screw up, but you’re still in control.

If you’re the type who likes customization, opt for an espresso machine with a high degree of programmability – so you still have a say in how your coffee is made.

Want to get a better sense of what espresso making at home might actually look like? Watch our great espresso basics video:

Brew group – built in or not?

The brew group is one of the most important parts of the espresso machine as this is where the actual brewing takes place. It’s the mechanism on the front of the espresso machine that pushes hot, pressurized water into the filter basket. On a semi-automatic or manual espresso machine, the brew group is the part that you snap the portafilter into.

Some fully automatic espresso machines have removable brew groups, making them easy to clean or open for inspection if something goes wrong. Other machines have a fixed, non-removable brew group (1). This built-in type is designed to be self-cleaning, which is convenient.

If you like being hands-on with the care and maintenance of your coffee maker, opt for one with a removable brew group.

Do you want your milk to be frothed automatically, or do it yourself?

Many fully automatic espresso machines have automatic functions for frothing or frothing milk to prepare lattes, cappuccinos and the like (2). However, some of them don’t, so you’ll have to use a traditional steam wand instead.

If you’re short on time or just want the machine to do that part for you, opt for a machine with a built-in milk heating and frothing system.

Water tank and bean container capacity

Automatic espresso machines differ in terms of their capacity: size of the water tank, size of the milk carafe and the size of the bean container (which feeds all the coffee beans into the coffee grinder). This affects how much espresso they can dispense without having to refill.

Choose according to your needs: if it’s just for your own enjoyment, a smaller one will do. However, if you want to brew for your family or office, choose something with ample capacity. Some fully automatic espresso machines can only handle a few shots at a time, while others will comfortably do at least a dozen shots in a row.

How is one machine different from the others?

There are many things that all fully automatic coffee machines have in common. They’re automatic (duh), so they’re already checking the usability criterion, with pre-built programs at your disposal.

But the best fully automatic espresso machines have something special. It can be highly programmable, easy to maintain, or extremely well designed. Depending on your personal coffee drinking style, you can find an option that works best for you.

The little-known secret to save big while shopping

Sure, making your own cup of coffee instead of getting one from a coffee shop is already saving you money. But do you want to know how you can save up to 500 euros when buying a fully automatic coffee machine? Below you will notice that some machines have an option that says “SEE REFURBISHED PRICE”.

Why? Because we found some retailers who offer refurbished versions of these fully automatic espresso machines. Click through to see if they have machines available, or read our guide to refurbished espresso machine marketplaces.

Refurbished machines are not brand new, although they look and feel brand new.

Buying a refurbished machine is often a better decision than buying a brand new one because:

They have been serviced, returned and tested to ensure they perform at peak levels.

You’ll save hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars off the regular price.

You’re probably thinking, “Sounds good. But what’s the catch?” There’s only a limited amount available. Often you will click through and these machines are out of stock. If this happens please do not email us or complain – we have no control over stock.

This means you now have three options:

Buy a regular/regular espresso machine instead of a fully automatic espresso machine. You need to learn the basics of making espresso, so you’ll have a learning curve to deal with each morning (for the first time, expect to spend 10-30 minutes each morning learning the skill + drinking poorly brewed coffee). Buy a super automatic espresso machine, brand new (be warned: they’re expensive). Save money now by buying a refurbished machine. Some of the companies listed below offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, which means you can try a device and return it within 30 days for a refund if it doesn’t work for you.

The 10 best automatic espresso machines of 2022

To help you find the espresso machine that can change your life, we’ve put together a list. Our selection of the best fully automatic espresso machines will improve your mornings. As? By saving you time and money.

1. Jura A1 – Best for black coffee drinkers Specifications: Beverages: Ristretto, espresso, coffee

Water tank capacity: 37 ounces

Bean hopper capacity: 4.4 ounces

Heat-up time: 30 seconds

Brew Group: Fixed CLICK TO CHECK PRICE

If you are not a fan of latte macchiato and cappuccino, you can save a lot of money by choosing a machine without a milk frothing system. Because of this, the new Jura A1 is the brand’s most affordable model, while still offering the same high-end espresso as the much more expensive machines, as well as the same sleek, modern design.

The ultra-compact A1 replaces the popular Jura ENA Micro 1. It adds Jura’s patented Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.), which uses short bursts of water to ensure optimal extraction. It also features the AromaG3 conical grinder, which is twice as fast as previous options. If you prefer to use pre-ground coffee, there is also a bypass doser.

There are three programmable drink size buttons, and brewing requires just the press of a button. The coffee strength can also be adjusted, as the variable brewing unit holds between 6 and 10 g of coffee. The A1 only brews one drink at a time, which is something to keep in mind if you’re half a couple, as most larger machines can make two.

The new Jura ENA 8 replaces the previous model, the Jura ENA Micro 9. Like the A1, it adds Pulse Extraction Process technology that guarantees a richer and more aromatic espresso, as well as the ultra-fast AromaG3 grinder.

In contrast to the A1, however, the ENA 8 has a fully functional automatic milk frother and a 2.8-inch color display for programming and beverage selection. At the touch of a button you get the perfect macchiato (or one of nine other drinks!) just the way you like it.

The ENA 8 is a super compact machine measuring just 10.7 inches wide, 12.7 inches high and 17.5 inches deep, making it the smallest one-touch machine on the market. It is available in 3 colours, red, white and black and features a unique and attractive round water reservoir patterned to look like crystal. It may be small, but it will still bring a big dose of class to your kitchen.

3. Jura Giga W3 – the best for the office Technical data: Beverages: 43 coffee specialities

Water tank capacity: 169 ounces

Bean hopper capacity: 35 ounces

Heat-up time: 78 seconds

Brew Group: Fixed PRICE CHECK OUT OF DATE

The Jura Giga W3 would certainly be overkill in a home setting, but it’s absolutely perfect for a busy office thanks to its massive capacity, extensive drink selection and ability to brew two drinks at once.

It can brew a whopping 43 different coffee specialties, from latte macchiato to a simple pot of coffee, and each can be customized via the full-color touchscreen display. With adjustable drink temperature, strength and coffee-milk ratio, everyone in the office can create their own perfect drink. It’s almost like having a barista on the team!

With such a large and complex machine, cleaning and maintenance will always be an issue, but Jura has made it as easy as possible by automating everything. Integrated rinsing, cleaning and descaling programs as well as warnings when needed ensure that you don’t have to worry about hygiene.

4. Jura E8 – Best Overall Specs: Beverages: 12 specialty coffees

Water tank capacity: 63.6 ounces

Bean hopper capacity: 9.9 ounces

Heat-up time: 70 seconds

Brew Group: Fixed CLICK TO CHECK PRICE

The name of the game with the Jura E8 is programmability, and that makes it our absolute favorite this year. And we are not alone; it has long been a best-selling model. It makes you feel like you’re choosing your espresso, just like a pro barista, but in a fully automated environment with no learning curve.

The color display allows you to control the amount of coffee and milk, the temperature of both and the milk texture in search of the perfect shot. Or you can let the machine take the reins and choose one of 12 pre-programmed specialty drinks. Either way, a delicious caffeine fix awaits.

This machine contains all of Jura’s patented high-end technologies, including the Pulse Extraction Process, AromaG3 grinder, Intelligent Water System and Fine Foam Technology. Together they ensure the most delicious espresso with the creamiest milk froth, packed in a user-friendly packaging.

5. Jura D6 – Best under $1000 Specifications: Beverages: Coffee, espresso, cappuccino, frothed milk, hot water

Water tank capacity: 63.6 ounces

Bean hopper capacity: 7.1 ounces

Heat-up time: 70 seconds

Brew Group: Fixed CLICK TO CHECK PRICE

The Jura D6 is a classically elegant looking coffee maker that’s packed with a host of advanced features, including Jura’s patented Pulse Extraction Technology. But where we think it really shines is in its ability to create the perfect airy froth for a cappuccino.

This is the result of Jura’s Easy Cappuccino system. It sucks in milk, heats it to the perfect temperature, and then injects just the right amount of air for the ideal fine froth to top your waiting espresso. And all this at the touch of a button.

Unlike some of the more expensive models (like the Jura E6), this affordable option uses a plain text display and a simple rotary switch instead of a touchscreen display. While this doesn’t give it the same high-tech look, in many ways this machine is actually easier to use. It even has the Smart Connect option that allows you to operate it via an app on your phone or tablet.

6. De’Longhi ESAM3300 Magnifica – Best Value Specs: Beverages: Espresso (multiple lengths), Americano, Cappuccino, Latte, Hot water

Water tank capacity: 60 ounces

Bean hopper capacity: 8.8 ounces

Heat-up time: 75 seconds

Brewing group: Pull-out SEE ON AMAZON

The De’Longhi Magnifica has a lot to offer for well under $1000. That’s probably why it won Amazon’s Choice, and is certainly why it’s our pick for best value. De’Longhi did an excellent job deciding what features to offer to keep this machine both affordable and powerful.

To start, it features a stainless steel cone grinder with 13 different grind settings to dial in the perfect brew. You can customize your espresso by adjusting shot length and coffee strength, and you can choose to brew one drink or two at a time. Unlike the Jura machines, this one has a removable brew group, making the occasional deep clean much easier.

De’Longhi has chosen to save money in two places. First, the Magnifica uses rotary knob control rather than a digital display. Second, the milk frothing system is more of a manual wand than an automatic frother. However, the wand comes with the company’s patented cappuccino system, making vaping a breeze for even latte newbies.

The Gaggia Brera is the most affordable machine on this list, which is all the more impressive given that it’s made in Italy by a very established and respected brand. Gaggia machines are popular with espresso beginners and pros alike, and with good reason. They tend to combine high-end components with a stylish design.

The Brera is a relatively compact model that is very easy to use. The trade-off for its simplicity is that you don’t have many options to dial in an espresso, so we prefer this one for Americanos and dairy-based drinks like lattes and cappuccinos.

The frothing of milk is done with the manual Panarello steam nozzle. Panarello sticks add a small amount of air to your milk along with steam, making it easier to achieve the perfect milk texture. While it’s still a bit more difficult to use than an automatic frother, once you get the hang of it, you can achieve better results.

The Breville Oracle Touch is the fully automatic espresso machine for everyone who is interested in the nerdy details of the perfect coffee and wants to feel like a real barista. It’s a great compromise between user input and usability, although it comes at a hefty price tag as a result.

The full-color digital display makes it easy to select one of five pre-programmed drinks or design and save a custom drink. The built-in grinder and automatic tamper prepare a large dose of 22g, ensuring a rich and flavorful espresso, just as you would expect from a real café.

Coffee geeks will appreciate that the Oracle, even the non-touch model, is a dual boiler, so you can brew espresso and prepare the milk at the same time. You will also flatter the PID for temperature control, which is the best system for accurate and precise temperature control. Even bean specialties are served well.

The only downside is that it takes longer to heat up than the others, on the order of 10 minutes, due to the use of boilers instead of a thermoblock.

It’s no surprise that our favorite latte machine is the Philips 3200 with LatteGo. That’s in the name! In fact, this compact little espresso machine shares many similarities with the famous Saeco PicoBaristo. It has many things going for it, just one of which is the excellent automatic frothing system.

This system, which Philips calls LatteGo, mixes milk, air and heat in a special frothing chamber before pouring it onto your latte. The completely hands-free system not only produces perfect silky milk froth, but also uses no hoses, making it far more hygienic than many alternatives. In between, the milk carafe can be removed and stored in the fridge.

Along with LatteGo, the 3200 features an intuitive user interface that makes it easy to select and program your drink. You can adjust the coffee strength, the amount of coffee and milk, and the temperature. The ceramic grinder has 12 adjustable settings and is designed for at least 20,000 cups of coffee. That should keep you happily caffeinated for years to come.

For such an affordable price, the De’Longhi ECAM22110SB is simply packed with features, which is all the more impressive considering its compact footprint. Measuring just 17 x 9.4 x 13.8 inches, this little brewer can deliver any of 5 specialty coffees, each of which is fully customizable.

It’s this ability to design your own drink that really sets this machine apart. The dial and display allow you to set the grinder through one of 12 settings and select your preferred drink temperature, strength and size. With the manual steam wand, which includes an adjustable cappuccino system for easy frothing, you can create the perfect milk texture for any drink. You can even adjust the height of the spout for different cup sizes.

Another unique feature of the ECAM22110SB is the Rapid Cappuccino System for maintaining the brewing temperature while preparing back-to-back drinks. If you serve a crowd on a regular basis, this is an option worth considering.

The judgment

While each of the machines on this list put up a strong fight for the contender for best fully automatic espresso machine, there’s one that shines above the rest: the Jura E8.

Check if there is a refurbished model. You can save about $500.

Frequently Asked Questions What type of coffee do you put in an espresso machine? You can put any type of coffee in the espresso machine. However, be sure to use a medium or dark roast bean if you want your espresso to taste better. In terms of flavor and strength, using an Italian or espresso roast is considered best. DO NOT put oily beans in an automatic machine; it will cause clogs and problems. How much bar pressure is good for espresso? 9 BAR pressure is a good pressure for espresso (3). This is 9 times the natural pressure at sea level. Today, however, some espresso machines have built-in pressure pumps that work at pressures of up to 15 or 17 BAR. How do you maintain an espresso machine? You maintain an espresso machine with regular cleaning and descaling. If you use your machine every day, you should aim to clean it once a week. Weekly cleaning does not have to be a high-maintenance program, a simple backwash with water is sufficient. But about every 200 shots, a more thorough backwash is needed to keep your machine running smoothly. This is the time when you should use the right cleaning tablets or powder. How often should you descale an espresso machine? You should descale your espresso machine as often as recommended by the manufacturer. Many newer models come with an indicator that lets you know when it’s time to descale your espresso machine. You can find more descaling tips here.

What is the smallest coffee pod machine?

COFFEEJACK is factually the smallest espresso machine on the market (only 100mm high) while producing coffee shop quality coffee. COFFEEJACK has a patent-pending micro-hydraulic press inside it that can pump out coffee at a magical excess of 9 bars of pressure, rivaling any professional-grade espresso maker.

Best Coffee Makers for the Elderly – Drinks Without Borders

Small enough to fit in your pocket, but powerful enough to rival your barista’s espresso maker, this is COFFEEJACK… A tiny coffee maker with a patent-pending micro-hydraulic press inside that can pump out coffee at a power magical over 9 bar pressure that can compete with any professional espresso machine.

COFFEEJACK comes from the folks at Hribarcain, famous for their great work in the EDC department. Now, they’ve set out to shrink the coffee maker down to such a small form factor that you might as well take it with you wherever you go, along with the rest of your belongings. The COFFEEJACK works with any coffee grinder, so you can enjoy your favorite espresso anywhere, while reducing your dependency on the polluting Nespresso and Keurig pods. Simply add your coffee grounds to the lower chamber and COFFEEJACK’s built-in tamper will level and pack the coffee grounds. Open the pump and pour hot water into the top chamber and you’re good to go! The espresso machine’s manual pump matches the high-pressure performance of most coffee machines, giving you an espresso that’s deliciously thick and even has a layer of flavorful crema on top, just like the one your barista prepares with professional equipment.

The patent-pending hydraulic pump at the heart of the COFFEEJACK sets it apart. Unlike your home French press or pour-over system, COFFEEJACK generates the 9-10 bar pressure required for a great espresso. Your Pour-Over and French Press will not exceed 1 bar of pressure, while the Moka Pot and Aeropress will peak at around 3-4 bar. COFFEEJACK’s high-pressure internal pump, coupled with its ridiculously small size, gives it an edge on all fronts, being as portable as your Aeropress, affordable as your home appliance, as premium as the coffee maker your local coffee shop uses, and a lot more eco-friendly than these pod-based coffee dispensing systems because the COFFEEJACK is made from 100% recycled plastic!

Beginner’s Guide to Single-Serve Capsuleless Coffee Makers

What is a single serve coffee maker without capsules?

With the popularity of single-serve coffee makers, many people think they need to use a K-cup pod and other disposable coffee pods to get single cups of coffee. However, there are single-serve coffee makers that go for sustainability by offering a single cup of coffee without a pod.

These coffee makers range from simply brewing one cup of coffee to accommodating several different brew sizes. Some machines can also handle tea, espresso, and specialty drinks with additional features like a frother.

The main focus here is that you can use a convenient single-serve coffee maker without worrying about spending big bucks on disposable coffee pods that are clogging up landfill and harming the environment.

Padless single-serve coffee makers versus standard single-serve coffee makers

A single-serve coffee maker can brew a single serving of coffee in just a few minutes. There is a wide range of single-serve coffee makers with additional features, including those that work with and without pods. However, the main difference between these single-serve coffee makers is the lack of a disposable coffee pod.

Like a Keurig or Hamilton Beach model, a traditional single-serve coffee maker receives a pod with coffee grounds inside and uses it to brew coffee. While there are reusable filter cups and compostable pods, many of the coffee pods you use with these machines aren’t recyclable, which has a significant impact on the environment.

A single-cup, pod-free personal coffee maker can brew a single cup of coffee entirely without a pod, meaning you don’t have to throw away your pods every day, giving many people a better sense of their environmental impact.

This is how a single-serve coffee machine works without capsules

Using a single-serve coffee maker without pods is relatively easy. They contain reusable filter baskets, much like a traditional filter coffee maker. If you throw away the coffee pods, you’ll need help to measure your coffee more accurately. Most come with fill lines on the filter or scoops to help you use the right amount of coffee grounds for your cup.

Most of these machines have a built-in removable water tank and water filter. They draw water from the reservoir into the tank, heat it, and inject it into the filter basket to extract the coffee aroma.

Pour the right amount of coffee powder into the filter basket and press the appropriate button to brew your cup of coffee. Most single-serve coffee makers are very easy to use, although some may have additional brew sizes, brew strengths, or features.

Why should you buy a single serve coffee maker without pods?

A single-serve podless coffeemaker offers versatility and adaptability in a relatively quick cup of coffee. If you don’t have one, you might want to invest in one that doesn’t use single-use capsules. If you already have one, it might be time to upgrade.

Is it worth buying a single-serve coffee machine without capsules?

They allow customization: since you are not limited by the contents of a single-use capsule, you can brew any type of coffee you want. You can grind your own beans or choose your favorite ground coffee from the store. You’re not limited to the predetermined amount of powder that goes into one capsule and you can add as much as you like to make your mug as potent as you want it to be.

They Reduce Waste: There are no single-use pods to worry about when a single-cup brewer isn’t using them. Instead of throwing non-recyclable capsules in the trash, you can compost your soil and reuse the filter.

They’re compact: A single-cup coffee maker is often compact in size, making it great for small spaces like apartments or small houses. They don’t take up much space on the counter, so you can even keep them on your desk in the office.

Why a semi-automatic espresso machine might not be for you

They’re Expensive: A high-quality, single-serve, podless coffee maker can be very expensive. Those that aren’t very expensive aren’t made with quality, so your cup of coffee may suffer.

How long does a single serve coffee maker last without pods?

You can expect a portion machine to last five to seven years, depending on quality. While cheap machines can only last a few years, a quality coffee maker can last a considerable amount of time if you take proper care of it. You need to understand how to use and clean it to keep it working longer.

How to choose a single serve coffee maker without pods

Buying a single-serve coffee maker that doesn’t use pods is different than buying a traditional single-serve coffee maker. You should think about things like the type of coffee you drink, the type of filter, the convenience, the purification and the taste.

Single serve coffee maker without pods key factors

1. What kind of coffee can I make?

You should always consider what type of coffee you prefer before buying a coffee maker. Some single-cup brewers brew coffee or tea with loose bases and leaves. You can also spend hot water on things like hot chocolate or apple cider.

However, if you like espresso, you should look for machines that can prepare a single shot of espresso or a single specialty drink without using a capsule, like the best single serve espresso maker. You may also need to look for a machine that can do both, especially if you have a large household that likes a lot of variety.

2. Which type of filter should I choose?

Although you can use paper filters, many people don’t like contributing to excessive waste, especially if they currently avoid using disposable coffee pods. You might want to look for a single-serve coffee maker with a strainer that allows you to throw away the paper. The mesh size will determine the grind size you can use, as the larger mesh will allow smaller grist through.

3. Do I need to worry about how long the brewing takes?

One-cup coffee makers are generally easy to use and quickly brew a cup of coffee. However, the ones that use pods are even faster since you only have to throw in a pod and throw it away when you’re done. A single-cup brewer without pods takes a few minutes longer because you have to measure the coffee grounds yourself and clean the filter after brewing.

It depends on how much time you have to spend on a cup of coffee every morning. While a single-cup non-pod brewer may last longer than a traditional single-cup brewer, it still doesn’t last quite as long as a larger drip coffee maker.

4. Which type of cleaning should I choose?

If you want your cleaning to be easy, you can choose machines with automatic cleaning cycles. However, this additional feature may cost a little more. If you don’t want to spend the money, you don’t have to choose this option. In either case, you will need to manually clean your filter basket to dispose of the used set.

5. Should I pay attention to the taste of my coffee?

If you care more about the flavor of your coffee, you should look for single-cup brewers that allow you to customize your brew strength or cup size. Many machines have additional brewing options. For those who don’t care about taste and just want a quick cup of coffee every morning, these extra features aren’t that important.

If you really care about the taste of your coffee and like specialty drinks, it may be worth investing in the best semi-automatic espresso machine.

In this article, our buyer’s guide will give you the know-how you need to choose the best Keurig alternative, and our top picks guarantee you’re getting a top-notch product.

Top Pick Nespresso Vertuo The Vertuo uses patented centrifusion technology that can brew both espresso and longer coffee drinks. It’s also very easy to use and works with aluminum capsules that are 100% recyclable. SEE ON AMAZON

How to choose the right Keurig alternative

Capsule-based, single-serve coffee makers are incredibly popular, and for good reason. They are fast, convenient, compact and practical if you only brew one cup of coffee at a time (1).

In 2017, the National Coffee Association USA (NCA) reported that nearly 30% of days gone by adult coffee drinkers brewed coffee with a single-serve brewer.

Our buyer’s guide will walk you through the key features so you can choose the right one for your lifestyle.

What would you like to drink?

Single-cup machines typically specialize in either drip coffee or espresso, and your preference between those beverages may narrow down which coffee maker works best for you. A few machines excel at both drinks and are perfect if you enjoy both equally.

If you prefer drinks like lattes and cappuccinos, look for a machine with a built-in steam wand or one that can be bundled with a frother.

And if you enjoy tea or hot chocolate on a regular basis, look for one that has the hot water option. These are especially useful in dorm rooms or offices without a kitchen, as they can also be used for soups.

user friendliness

You’re probably considering a Keurig alternative for its convenience, so consider what other features it offers to make your life easier. Some machines are fully programmable, while others only have a brew button. In addition to features like timed turn-ons, programmable machines with adjustable drink sizes, temperatures, and brew strengths offer more control over your drink, but they can be more difficult to learn and use.

Don’t forget about cleaning, a mandatory task for every coffee machine owner. Many machines simplify the process with automatic cleaning cycles and alerts when cleaning is due.

how much space do you have

Single-serve pod brewers are typically very compact and built for the office desk or pantry, but this is not universal. Think about where you want your machine to be or if you need to move it regularly to choose the right size. When it comes to a portable coffee maker, aim for a small but sturdy design so it can withstand transportation.

The size of a coffee machine is largely determined by its water tank. If you have a lot of space and don’t intend to move your coffee maker, purchasing a larger coffee maker with a large reservoir can help you avoid the constant refilling.

What about the environment?

Like all single-use products, capsule coffee makers have been maligned as not good for the environment, but the news isn’t all bad. From the point of view of power consumption, many machines have automatic shutdowns and low-power modes, which are also useful in a safety context.

Nespresso’s aluminum capsules are fully recyclable and the company strives to make recycling as easy as possible for consumers, along with a number of other notable sustainability initiatives (2). K-Cups aren’t fully recyclable yet, but hope to be later this year (3).

We make our capsules out of aluminum because it’s a fully recyclable metal and an excellent material for preserving the quality of our coffee.

Of course, the best option for the environment is to use ground beans instead of a single-use capsule (4). If you want to go that route, look for a machine that includes a reusable filter canister.

Price-performance ratio

K-cup coffee makers tend to be reasonably priced, some exceptionally so, but it’s more important to consider value for money and balance price with durability and quality. It might be worth paying a little more for one of the Keurig alternatives below, which are made from materials like stainless steel or high-quality polymers.

If you’re on a big budget, a fully automatic espresso machine might be a better choice. These machines can deliver much higher quality coffee or espresso with the convenience of a single-serve pod system and without the environmental disadvantages, but at a significantly higher cost.

The 8 Best Keurig Alternatives of 2022

When you venture beyond the original Keurig brand, you have more options and a better chance of finding exactly what you’re looking for. Whether it’s a great espresso or an ultra-cheap cup of coffee, we’ve got you covered. Check out these Keurig alternatives.

8.3 x 11.9 x 11.9 inches Water Reservoir: 40 ounces SEE ON AMAZON

Nespresso’s new VertuoLine’s place at the top of our list is well deserved. While Nespresso has long been known in Europe for high-quality espresso, North Americans lamented the lack of basic coffee. Enter the sleek and stylish Vertuo that does both and does well.

Built in collaboration with Breville, the Vertuo preheats in less than 30 seconds and offers 5 cup sizes up to a large coffee of 14 ounces. It features Nespresso’s innovative Centrifusion technology, which spins the coffee pods at 7,000 rpm and mixes the ground coffee and water for optimal extraction. The result is a tasty infusion and a thick crema, whether you’re making a coffee or an espresso.

This Keurig alternative is also equipped with an intelligent extraction system that reads a barcode on the capsule to know exactly what brewing parameters to use for the best flavor. However, this limits you to Nespresso’s proprietary capsules, which are more expensive. However, this guarantees better quality than most thanks to strict sourcing. The coffee grounds are hermetically sealed in aluminum capsules for maximum freshness.

2. Cuisinart SS-10 – Easiest to use Specs Beverages: Coffee, hot water

The detachable water tank is very large at 72 ounces, and a charcoal water filter guarantees pure water for your brew (5). A built-in rinsing function automatically cleans the inside of the brewing chamber. There’s also a programmable auto-on feature, for those who like to have their coffee ready and waiting for them, and an auto-off feature is triggered after 30 minutes.

3. Sboly Single Serve – Best for small spaces No products found. Specifications drinks: coffee

Use With: K-Cups, Reusable Pod Included Cup Size: 3

K-cups, reusable pod included Dimensions: 4.0 x 7.5 x 12.0 inches

We love the budget-friendly Sboly for its simple design, small footprint, and durable plastic and stainless steel construction. But it also doesn’t come up short when it comes to preparing coffee. This is a great option for a small apartment, desk, or dorm room.

This single-cup coffee maker is compatible with all brands of K-Cups – here are some amazing flavors we’ve reviewed. It also comes with a reusable pod if you’d rather use your own ground coffee. With the push of a button, you can brew the K-Cup in three cup sizes, 6, 8, or 10 ounces, and the larger reusable filter allows you to brew 12 and 14 ounce options.

It only takes three minutes to heat up and brew the coffee and it switches off automatically after brewing. Maintenance is a breeze as it has an automatic one-touch cleaning feature and the K-cup piercing assembly is easily removable for cleaning.

This coffee maker features a single-serving, 14-ounce water tank that allows for quick heat-up, but requires refilling between each coffee. For a larger household of coffee drinkers, this can be frustrating.

Hamilton Beach has a long history of kitchenware and is known for its ability to create simple, high quality, and affordable products. If you don’t need a lot of bells and whistles and don’t want to pay for it, the Flexbrew delivers.

The Hamilton Beach is compatible with all K-Cups and also comes with a small filter basket if you wish to use ground beans. The K-Cup lets you brew up to 10 ounces and up to 14 ounces with ground beans, and it even accommodates an 8-inch travel mug.

The Chulux Single Cup Coffee Maker is our most popular budget option, perfect for the home, RV, office, or dorm room. This compact little brewer is made from BPA-free plastic (7) in a range of fun colors so it’s sure to complement any decor. And even at its rock-bottom price, it manages to deliver the important features.

The Chulux accepts any brand of K-Cup and comes equipped with a reusable ground bean pod. There are no programmable features, so operation is as simple as adding water by pressing the brew button. It takes 3 minutes to heat and brew the coffee and turn off when finished.

The metal drip tray is removable for easy cleaning and to accommodate large cups. The cool exterior means you won’t risk scalding even when the water inside is fully heated, a great feature if you have kids.

One downside is the 12-ounce disposable water tank. You need to measure your water in advance as the machine will keep brewing until it’s empty. While it costs less than a quarter the price of most machines, this is a bit of a quibble.

Our favorite is the new Nespresso Vertuo, which produces a remarkably high-quality drink at the push of a button. Whether you want a rich coffee or an espresso with crema, the Vertuo delivers it in under two minutes.

FAQs How do I make K-Cup coffee stronger? The only way to make your cup of coffee stronger with a K-Cup is to brew a smaller size, as each K-Cup contains the same amount of ground coffee. A better option is to use a refillable filter pad with ground coffee, and then you can add extra coffee grounds. How do you clean a disposable coffee machine? To clean a one-cup coffee maker, follow the manufacturer’s instructions, which typically involve a water and vinegar brew cycle. Many machines offer automatic cleaning cycles to make the job easier. Do you need paper filters for disposable coffee machines? No, you do not need to buy paper filters. Refillable coffee pods are made of fine metal mesh that acts as a filter.

What kind of coffee machine does Starbucks use?

Starbucks uses a machine called Mastrena. It is a brand that was developed exclusively for Starbucks by a Swiss company called Thermoplan AG. Starbucks uses super automatic machines that have built in grinders and a computerized menu that make the espresso making process as easy and quick as possible.

Starbucks uses a machine called Mastrena. It is a brand developed exclusively for Starbucks by a Swiss company called Thermoplan AG. Starbucks uses super machines with built-in grinders and a computerized menu that make espresso-making as easy and quick as possible. The cost of a Starbucks espresso machine is around $18,000. Starbucks espresso machines are designed for ease of use and fast beverage production, not so much for beverage quality. For that reason, if you’re a specialty coffee shop, focusing on craft beverages is a good way to compete with Starbucks. If you’re a home user, with good coffee beans, some barista training, a good espresso grinder (more important than the espresso machine), and a good espresso maker, most people can get better results than Starbucks pretty easily.

Is Philips better than DeLonghi?

When comparing both ranges, we looked at a couple of key factors, including price, quality and product variety of their individual ranges. From a price perspective, Philips takes the cake, offering a greater variety of products, at an average lower cost that is lower than that of De’Longhi.

Best Coffee Makers for the Elderly – Drinks Without Borders

Head to head: De’Longhi vs. Philips coffee machines

Head to head: De’Longhi vs. Philips coffee machines

Two of the most popular coffee maker brands in today’s industry come from De’Longhi and Philips, both of which have long standings in the industry. For many consumers, discovering a brand they are familiar with is an encouraging factor when looking for a new home coffee maker. Both brands are popular in their own right, but when someone spots two machines in a similar lineup of either, what’s to say that one is better than the other? Today we’ll examine both ranges as a whole and provide some advice on how best to go about it based on price, quality and product variation.

De’Longhi coffee machines

De’Longhi is a trusted brand that has been making coffee machines since the early 1990’s. Their existing range includes a variety of options (bean to cup, pump espresso, grinders, accessories and even their own LatteCrema system), all priced from R4000 to R20,000. In general their products are of the highest quality Keep in mind that newer models look trendy and modern and go beyond some of the more traditional machines that you might find from competitors in a similar range. Most of their machines get great reviews online, but in our books their ESAM6900 Bean-to-Cup Coffee Maker is one of the best machines on the market today and it’s worth checking out if you’re in the market for one of theirs machines are.

Philips coffee machines

While Philips is more synonymous with other electronics, it’s no secret that their household products have grown in popularity significantly over the last two decades. A global conglomerate that caters to the everyday user, its coffee machines tend to be less frills, averaging in the R10,000 range. There are a few exceptions though, and their Saeco Xelsis X3 fully automatic espresso machine, for example, offers an incredible range of coffee-making options and additional features. This brand’s more expensive coffee makers tend to be of higher quality and may be breaking into the more affluent niche, albeit at a slower pace than other brands.

De’Longhi vs Philips: Who will win?

When comparing both ranges we looked at a few key factors including price, quality and product variety of each range. From a price point of view, Philips stands out, offering a greater variety of products at a lower average cost, lower than De’Longhi.

From a quality perspective, De’Longhi comes out on top, although Philips’ high-end range seems equally competitive in that sense. When it comes to variation, both products offer a wide variety of products, and while De’Longhi doesn’t necessarily cater to the general public, it does add a lot of personalization to its machines to better understand its customers and improve their ranges over time . Philips does this too, but since coffee isn’t their primary game, it’s clear that they still have a little way to go to really penetrate the market in this regard.

Which pod coffee machine makes the hottest coffee?

Any one of these single serve makers would make a fine addition to your household, but if you really appreciate and need the hottest brew, your only option is the TouchPlus as the hottest single-serve coffee maker.

Best Coffee Makers for the Elderly – Drinks Without Borders

Are you looking for the single serve coffee maker with the hottest temperature?

Single-serve coffee makers have stood the test of time. These machines are elegant, versatile, durable and offer a variety that only a coffee shop would have. However, you don’t have to worry about standing in lines.

Also Read: The Best Single Serve Coffee Makers for 2021

With fewer chores and cleanup, more choice in using your own coffee grounds or a branded pod, the single-serve coffeemaker has an unfair bad reputation for serving hot coffee. Some people claim that single serve coffee makers aren’t hot enough.

Coffee Temperature: Which Single-Serve Coffee Maker Makes the Hottest Coffee?

The recommended brewing temperature for coffee is between 195 and 205 degrees and for serving between 153 and 175 degrees. This begs the question, which single serve coffee maker makes the hottest coffee and meets or exceeds the above requirements? let’s find out

recognitions

Luckily, after weeks of researching which single-serve coffeemaker will brew the hottest cup of coffee, we were able to narrow it down to five models. We considered brand, quality, durability, affordability and of course warmth. These machines are all great as they can quickly brew water to the desired temperature.

Black And Decker Brew N’ Go

By far this is a great bargain for someone on a budget. If you’re on a budget but still want the luxury of a single-serve coffee maker, then I highly recommend the Brew N’ Go as your caffeine stirrer.

Not only does it brew hotter coffee than more expensive and respected competitors like Keurig and Cuisinart, but it also comes with an auto shut-off for ease of use.

It’s dishwasher safe for easy cleaning, and once it’s brewed up to 182 degrees of your favorite coffee, you can sip from the included 15-ounce thermal mug.

Kitchen style SS-10

The problem with Cuisinart models is that you don’t know if you want to use them or admire them.

Once you start using the Cuisinart SS-10, you’ll find a lot of great features aside from its hot brewing temperature of 177 degrees. The Cuisinart SS-10 is compatible with every K-Cup brand, you can choose 5 sizes from 4 to 12 ounces, an on/off switch for more convenience and a charcoal water filter for the best flavor quality.

Cuisinart is a quality brand that stands behind their products and this model comes with a three year warranty for your peace of mind.

Bunn My Cafe MCU coffee maker

If you love technologically advanced machines, you’ll love the Bunn My Cafe model.

This single-serve coffee machine has the ability to run a constant temperature. Essentially, it measures the second cup of joe to the first by measuring temperature consistency.

This is to assure you that you get a consistent yet hot brew every time. And you can customize it too.

You’ll enjoy the height-adjustable drip tray to give you more cup size options and the fact that the Bunn My Cafe MCU coffee maker comes with Auto/Off and multiple settings.

Bunn is well respected for their great customer service and durable models. This machine is easy to use and easy to clean. You can use any K-Cup or Senseo-like pods. Enjoy a hot cup of coffee as it heats to an average of 190 degrees for a quick, satisfying brew.

Keurig 2.0 K575 series

While it doesn’t deserve the top accolade for hottest single-serve coffeemaker, it’s the best maker in the world in terms of a single serve.

Find a list of the best coffee makers and chances are you’ll find a Keurig right there. Featuring a dazzling 2.8-inch color display, the Keurig 2.0 is utterly versatile, being able to brew either a single portion or four cups.

You’ll love the huge 80 ounce water reservoir and the fact that it doesn’t take time to heat your coffee to 176 degrees for a rich and delicious taste.

The Hot Shot of 2020 is…

TouchPlus T526S!

Unlike the others on this list, the TouchPlus features a patent-pending technology called Rapid Brew. What the Rapid Brew does for you Heat your coffee in just 20-30 seconds. That’s an amazing brew time!

It has some other notable properties. A 90-ounce reservoir that can fit a water lake, numerous choices in cup sizes from 6 to 26 ounces, and the TouchPlus T526S has the option of a reusable pod for the eco-conscious consumer.

So that comes to the question you most want an answer to. How hot does the TouchPlus brew?

180 degrees? No, 195 degrees? Try again…

The Hotshot Single Serve Machine of the Year brews at 200-205 degrees. And not when the water is lukewarm, from cold water.

If you’ve had concerns about whether or not a single-serve coffeemaker might meet your temperature needs, delete them all at once. The TouchPlus not only heats up like no other, it also delivers quality and flavor.

last words

Drip machines are fine and all, but they don’t offer the same maximum options as a single-serve coffee maker. Not to mention they just aren’t as sleek and elegant as the single server.

The misconception of whether a single-serve coffee maker can compete with the rest in terms of high brewing temperatures has been debunked.

Black and Decker Brew N’ Go is great if you’re on a budget, while Bunn and Cuisinart are best known for their customer loyalty and brand quality. Of course, Keurig has been the mainstay behind the single-serve coffeemaker market for years and will continue to impress as they make improvements.

Any of these single serve makers would be a good addition to your household, but if you really appreciate and need the hottest brew, TouchPlus is your only option as the hottest single serve coffee maker. It’s what you’ll want to add to your gift list for a coffee lover who needs a small machine for a quick coffee.

How to choose the best coffee pod machine for you

While most pod machines work the same way, not all are created equal. Many have advanced barista-style features, while others just produce a basic espresso. There are also many different pods and prices to find your way around. Watch our video on choosing the best coffee pod maker below, or read the full guide below.

What types of drinks can you make in coffee capsule machines?

Depending on which machine you buy, all the classic coffee shop drinks are available to you. Cheaper machines typically deliver basic black coffees like espresso and lungos, while more expensive models add more drink sizes and often hot milk options.

Some of the most expensive machines have built-in milk carafes that allow them to deliver creamy lattes and cappuccinos at the touch of a button, while others have steam wands that let you manually steam your own milk to create your own. Others simply bundle a separate milk frother that heats and froths the milk at the touch of a button.

Are there any features I should look out for or avoid?

If you’re looking for a professional barista-style drink at home, we highly recommend going with a steam wand machine. In this way you can prepare frothed milk like in a café. If not, be sure to plan for a separate milk frother – you can read our guide to the best milk frothers here.

If you want frothy coffee but don’t want the hassle of a steam wand, some machines, like the Tassimo My Way and Dolce Gusto models, have dual-stage pods that feature a creamy milk element as well as a coffee one, so you can get a frothy one in seconds to prepare cappuccino. It’s not nearly as authentic as frothing milk with a steamer or carafe, but it’s a lot quicker and, in most cases, a lot cheaper.

If personalizing your drinks is important to you, look out for machines with options to customize drink size, temperature and coffee strength. All coffee pod machines allow you to adjust the drink size in some way, but certain machines do this far better, making the process quick and easy.

Which pods can I use?

It all depends on the machine you choose. Most manufacturers use a standard pod type that is unique to the brand. Nespresso offers two types of pods: the classic type used by most of its machines, and larger Vertuo pods that are specific to the Vertuo range.

Most machines also work with third-party pods. L’Or, for example, has its own line of Nespresso-compatible pods, and some coffee roasters also make their own ranges of compatible pods.

How Much Should I Spend on a Pod Machine?

If you want a machine with lots of customization options, you’ll need to spend upwards of £70 on one machine. For fancier extras like steam wands or built-in milk functions, you’ll have to go even higher – these can often set you back over £200. However, a no-frills manual machine can cost as little as £30. It all depends on what you want and what you can afford.

The best coffee pod machines to buy

1. Nespresso Vertuo Next: Best Nespresso coffee maker for pods

Price: £139 | Buy now on Amazon

If you prefer a big cup in the morning, this simple one-touch machine is for you. It pours large cups of quality coffee exceptionally well and produces tasty drinks that you can enjoy with or without milk.

There’s also no fiddling around with programming drink sizes – although you can if you want to customize your machine. Simply plug in the pod and the machine will read the barcode on the pod and automatically dispense just the right amount of water for the type of coffee it contains. With 29 different capsule options constantly available and new ones being added all the time, there is plenty to choose from too.

Key Specifications – Capsule Type: Nespresso Vertuo Capsules; Beverage Sizes: Five (Espresso, Double Espresso, Gran Lungo, Mug, Alto); Rod Pressure: N/A (uses centrifugal force); Water tank capacity: 1.1L; Capacity of used capsule container: 10 large capsules

2. Lavazza Jolie: coffee pod machine with the best value for money

Price: From £53 | Buy now on Amazon

Don’t be fooled by its minimalist stature: Lavazza’s smallest, most affordable (and, in our opinion, most stylish) capsule machine makes a really nice espresso. It uses the same compostable EcoCaps as the Idola, delivers great tasting quality coffee and is operated with just one button.

Similar to the Dolce Gusto Infinissima, which can also be seen in this round-up, the pouring is controlled manually. Just press the button to start pouring, then press it again to stop. This is ideal for those who want full control over their cup, but the lack of preset drink settings means you can’t walk away while the machine does its work. The size of the machine also means there is less space in the capsule container, so you’ll need to empty it more often.

However, if you’re looking for a simple, affordable coffee pod machine that doesn’t take up too much space, the Jolie is a fantastic option.

Key Specifications – Pod Type: Lavazza A Mio Modo Pods, Lavazza EcoCaps; Beverage Sizes: N/A; bar pressure: 10; Water tank capacity: 0.6L; Capacity of the container for used capsules: 4/5 capsules

3. Nespresso Creatista Uno: Best high-end capsule machine

Price: £299 | Buy now from John Lewis

If you want barista-friendly features in a machine that’s also easy to use, then the Creatista Uno is a delight. The professional-looking steam wand inherits the automatic milk texturing technology of Sage’s pricier manual machines, creating silky, scalding milk at the touch of a button.

You get three drink size options (ristretto, espresso and lungo) as well as buttons to adjust the water temperature and select the froth of the frothed milk. Whether you want to make a rich cappuccino or a silky smooth flat white, you can make it exactly how you want it and without ever leaving home.

The only issue we have with this machine is how noisy it is. Given its size and features, it can be quite noisy both when pouring coffee and generating steam – so it’s certainly not for late-night drinks.

It works with classic Nespresso capsules, but there are many third-party capsules that can be used as well. If you’re set on a Nespresso machine and want to find out about some of the tastiest capsules, our Best Nespresso Capsules page will help you choose the perfect blends.

4. Dolce Gusto Infinissima: Best Budget Coffee Pod Maker

Price: From £44 | Buy now on Amazon

For those looking for a cheap, no-frills coffee maker, the unusual-looking Infinissima is worth considering. But it’s not just their looks that set them apart: you can choose exactly how much coffee goes into your cup.

This machine is compatible with all Dolce Gusto pods, including third-party ones. Simply insert the pod on top, switch the lever to hot, then move it back once you’ve poured as much coffee as you want. You can also pour cold water through certain Dolce Gusto capsules during the summer months, e.g. B. the brand’s Cold Brew Coffee for a cold drink. The cold setting can also be used to adjust the temperature of your coffee if you prefer it a little cooler.

The obvious downside is that you can’t take your eyes off this machine while your coffee is pouring, and you also have to spend a little time figuring out how much water to pull through each pod. Otherwise, this is a good coffee pod machine if you’re on a tight budget.

Key Specifications – Pod Type: Dolce Gusto, Starbucks for Dolce Gusto; Beverage Sizes: N/A; Bar Pressure: Up to 15; Water tank capacity: 1.2L; Used capsule container capacity: N/A

5. Lavazza Idola: Best Lavazza coffee pod machine

Price: £105 | Buy now on Amazon

If you are looking for a machine with a wide range of functions, an elegant design and high-quality coffee pods, we can warmly recommend the Lavazza Idola.

This incredibly easy-to-use capsule machine produces four drink sizes: espresso, long espresso, long coffee, and finally a “free dose” drink that infuses enough water for a full cup of coffee. There’s also a button to adjust the water temperature, which is great for those who love a slightly hotter (or cooler) coffee.

The quality of Lavazza’s capsules is fantastic, but unfortunately there isn’t a huge range of blends to choose from. If a large coffee selection is important to you, you might want to consider one of the other machines on this list.

Read our full Lavazza Idola review

Key Specifications – Pod Type: Lavazza A Mio Modo Pods; Beverage Sizes: Four (espresso, long espresso, long coffee, free dose; bar pressure: 10; water tank capacity: 1.1L; used capsule container capacity: 10 capsules

6. Dolce Gusto Genio S Plus: Best Dolce Gusto coffee pod machine

Price: £75 | Buy now on Amazon

The Genio S Plus may be small, but it’s packed with great features. The temperature adjustment knob is a nice touch, and you can also increase the strength of the coffee with the espresso boost feature. Adjusting drink sizes to your liking is as easy as turning a dial.

As far as pod quality goes, Dolce Gusto’s can be a bit of a hit or miss. Luckily, there’s plenty to choose from, so you should be able to find a decent selection to enjoy. Our personal favorites are the Starbucks Americano House Blend, Starbucks Latte Macchiato, and the brand’s classic Americano.

It’s worth noting that like all Dolce Gusto machines, this one doesn’t have a capsule hopper, meaning you’ll have to discard the capsule every time you brew a drink.

Key Specifications – Pod Type: Dolce Gusto, Starbucks for Dolce Gusto; Beverage Sizes: Seven; Bar Pressure: Up to 15; Water tank capacity: 0.8L; Used capsule container capacity: N/A

7. Illy Iperespresso X7.1: Capsules with the best taste

Price: £139 | Buy now on Amazon

The unique looking Iperespresso looks like a manual espresso machine – but offers all the convenience of a pod machine. Rather than popping your pods into the top of the machine, instead place the pods in a professional-looking portafilter that rotates and locks into place.

There is a metal rack on top of the machine for you to warm cups on, and this machine’s small steam wand allows you to manually froth milk to create a range of perfectly creamy, frothy coffees.

Better still, the quality of the coffee is a cut above the rest. We particularly enjoyed the single-variety Brazilian pods, but the classic roasts were also a treat. Unfortunately, the capsules aren’t the most eco-friendly due to their thick plastic shell, but if you can pry them open, that plastic can be recycled. They’re also a bit cheaper per capsule than some of the other options on this list, costing around 38p per cup.

Key Specifications – Pod Type: Illy Iperespresso; Beverage Sizes: One (but customizable); bar pressure: 15; Water tank capacity: 1L; Used capsule container capacity: N/A

8. Tassimo My Way 2: Best Tassimo capsule machine

Price: £70 | Buy now on Amazon

Tassimo’s My Way is a capsule machine that offers many customization options, but can also save individual drinks on a dedicated button, so you only have to tap once for your perfect coffee.

Choose from three different drink sizes, temperatures and coffee strengths, or simply let the machine read the barcode on the pods and automatically pour the perfect cup. While there isn’t a huge range of capsules, the selection is pretty diverse and most are from well-known brands like Kenco, Costa, L’Or and Cadbury’s.

The My Way 2 also features an integrated water filter unit that can be used with Brita cartridges for smooth, filtered water that’s perfect for coffee.

The only downside to this machine is that it takes a little longer to pour coffee than most of its competitors, even when using the customizable buttons. All in all, however, this is a well-designed machine with some standout features.

Key Specifications – Pod Type: Tassimo T-Disc; Beverage Sizes: Three (small, medium, large); Cash pressure: Not specified; Water tank capacity: 1.3L; Used capsule container capacity: N/A

Keurig K15 Single Serve Coffee Maker Review

Are you looking for a one-cup coffee maker that won’t break the bank or take up too much counter space? Perhaps one that you can easily move around the house or take with you on vacation? Be sure to read this Keurig K 15 review to see if this coffee maker (aka the Mini K15) is the best model for you.

Please note that this model has been discontinued and currently has limited availability. If you’re looking for a small Keurig model, consider the K-Mini Plus instead. Read our Keurig K-Mini Plus review here.

CONCLUSION: With the Keurig K15 you simply can’t argue about the price.

Keurig Mini K15 Review Customizability

Make Your Life Easier features

Water reservoir 2/5 2.5 SEE ON AMAZON

We’ve broken it down to show you how it performs in a few areas, but you can also check out our reviewer Scott’s take on it here:

Customizability – 2.5/5

The Keurig K15 single-serve coffee maker does exactly what it was built to do: brew a cup of coffee in less than 2 minutes.

If that’s all you want from your coffee maker, then you won’t be disappointed and should opt for this budget-friendly model.

However, when it comes to customizing your brew, the Keurig K15 loses points as it undoubtedly offers fewer options (e.g. most models) compared to other Keurig machines.

Still, you can choose from a 6-, 8-, or 10-ounce cup of coffee, as well as hundreds of K-cup types, meaning you can get different flavors simply by buying different capsules. It is also compatible with the My K-Cup universal reusable coffee filter, which we strongly recommend you purchase for its environmental footprint rather than always relying on K-Cups. (1)

…Refillable K-Cups are a more sustainable choice. They are made of steel or plastic and only cost a few dollars each

Make Your Life Easier Features – 3/5

While the Keurig K15 may not be very customizable, it does have some handy features. First, it turns off automatically after 90 seconds of inactivity, saving you energy and money. (2)

Convenient cord storage adds to its portability, making it even easier to move around the house or take with you on vacation.

The K15 also features a removable drip tray that eases the cleaning process and allows you to use larger cups or travel mugs, and the K-Cup holder is also removable for easy cleaning.

For us, it only loses two points because it lacks features (like auto-on and hot water button) that some other Keurig coffeemakers offer. Because this machine doesn’t remind you when it’s time to descale it, you’ll need to remember to do it every 3 to 6 months, depending on the concentration of minerals in the water you’re using. (3)

Water reservoir – 2/5

Unlike other Keurig coffeemakers, the K15 single-serve coffeemaker doesn’t have a water tank that you can fill up on Monday and use for the rest of the week, instead it has a one-cup reservoir. Despite being as small as can be, we think it deserves two stars instead of one because this small water reservoir improves its portability and ensures you’re always using fresh water.

It also makes it very easy to choose the right amount for your cup: there are 3 different size indicators to make sure you’re using enough water for the coffee size you want, but there’s also a flashing button to let you know if you’re using need to add more. It will light up as soon as you turn on the power to remind you to add the water before inserting the K-Cup.

Don’t buy the k15 if…

YOU WANT TO CUSTOMIZE YOUR PREPARATION – The K15 comes in handy when you just want to press a button and sip a single cup of coffee, but if you’d rather brew a stronger coffee, control the water temperature and have more cup sizes to choose from you might want Instead, look at the Keurig K-Elite or the K-Select.

Or if you’re looking for a machine that makes cappuccinos and lattes, the Keurig K-Cafe might be a better choice. Find out more about this machine in our Keurig K-Cafe review.

Don’t want to refill the reservoir every time – If you don’t put too much effort into customizing your cup of coffee, but are a bit resentful of the idea of having to refill the reservoir before each brew, then this Keurig model isn’t for you She. We think you’d be happier with the Keurig K55 Classic: while it still offers 3 brew sizes and is in a similar price range, it comes with a 48-ounce reservoir, meaning you’ll get a 6-ounce cup of coffee could drink a day for a week without having to refill.

The K55 also has somewhat similar characteristics to those of its predecessor, the K50. Here you can learn more about the difference between these two models.

You want a coffee maker that fits in your pocket – If you stumbled upon our Keurig Mini K15 review because you were looking for a single-cup portable coffee maker and realized it’s not as portable as you thought, then you should look into it maybe check out our list of the best travel coffee makers (that you can actually put in your bag).

The verdict: should you buy the K15?

That might not be what you want to hear: we don’t think the K15 is one of Keurig’s best models. It doesn’t offer many customizable features and many users have complained about the lukewarm coffee temperature and the fact that it doesn’t last very long after repeated use.

But… it’s a good choice for those who value portability and just want to enjoy a quick cup of coffee every now and then.

Where is Braun coffee maker?

Sadly, the majority of once-strong European brands like Krups and Braun (which is really De’Longhi) have moved all of their manufacturing to China very recently (if you read the Amazon Q&As, the Braun KF7070 was made in Romania as of May 6, 2019, but as of December 9, 2020, it’s made in China).

Best Coffee Makers for the Elderly – Drinks Without Borders

History of the coffee maker

Of course, coffee has been a thing for thousands of years. For hundreds of years, people have brewed coffee by roasting and grinding beans and placing them in a pot of hot water. In the 19th century, the French invented the infusion process (basically pouring ground coffee into a giant tea bag), drip brewing (pouring water through a filter), and the percolator (where boiling water forces itself through a tube into an upper chamber ). and then “seeps away” drop by drop into a lower chamber) and of course the French Press or Cafetière. It probably didn’t hurt that Napoleon loved the stuff.

Strong coffee, and plenty, wakes me up. It gives me a warmth, an unusual strength, an ache that is not without pleasure. I would rather suffer than be senseless

Of course, coffee makers really took off commercially in the mid-20th century as American ingenuity brought new innovations. In the 1950s, George R. Bunn, Jr. invented the infuse drip coffee maker and the flat-bottomed fluted coffee filter. His Bunn-O-Matic brand paved the way for the proliferation of brands you see today from Mr. Coffee, Cuisinart, OXO, Hamilton Beach, Black and Decker. Of course they are all made in China now.

Are there coffee machines that are not made in China?

Surprisingly, there are a lot of them. BUNN, who started it all, still produces much of the commercial coffee making equipment you find in your favorite restaurants and fast food joints. If you’ve enjoyed coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts, Tim Horton’s, 7-Eleven, McDonalds, and probably your favorite restaurant or coffee shop, it was brewed on BUNN machines. And they also have a whole range of consumer devices. While some of their models are made in China, most of their models, especially the high-end models, are still assembled in the US.

Unfortunately, most of the once-powerful European brands like Krups and Braun (which is actually De’Longhi) have recently shifted all of their production to China (if you read Amazon’s Q&A, the Braun KF7070 has been made in Romania since May). 6, 2019, but since December 9, 2020 it is made in China). Technivorm is the last European brand to stick with manufacturing outside of China. We’ll break down the best below.

There’s also a new group of US companies developing their own designs for old-school non-electronic coffee makers, some of which have rave reviews on Amazon (remember coffee was made hundreds of years before there was electricity gave). . Undoubtedly, companies in China are already copying their designs and selling them under fake brand names, but their prices are so low that it would be a crime not to endorse them.

[Update 3/21/22 – Added Bodum French Press and re-validated the original listing to ensure they are still selling. They are :)]

Best Coffee Makers Not Made in China – Quick Ranking

I had to do a double take when I saw the Amazon reviews for this product. It has a solid 4.8 rating across more than 12,000 reviews. The AeroPress was patented by Alan Adler in 2004. If you were around in the 1980s, you might remember a new type of frisbee in the shape of a flat ring called an aerobie. This was also patented by Mr. Adler. Along with over 40 other inventions. Adler is a true American success story; Before retiring, he taught engineering at Stanford University and is still a sought-after lecturer at places like Stanford, NASA, Google, Caltech, Princeton and many more.

In 2004, Adler began studying the coffee brewing process and developed the AeroPress. Interestingly, it looks like a French Press. But according to the company — and thousands of real, not-so-smart, reviewers — it produces coffee faster (in a minute), avoids the bitterness and acidity, and eliminates the sand from the bottom of your cup that makes drinking a cup of French Press so disappointing.

That’s how it works.

The secret lies in the use of air pressure, i. H. in the short time it takes to brew in the patented airtight container. You start with the right temperature (most people prefer 175 degrees) and then press gently (about 12 pounds of force, or about twice the force required to crack an egg). This extracts a rich aroma while keeping the bitterness in the ground, rather than allowing the coffee to steep in a French Press for many minutes.

The best part? Everything is made in the USA, not just the assembly of the parts but the parts themselves. They’re a bit coy about not releasing such a strong selling point (which leads me to suspect there are some people who Mr. and Mrs. Adler , the owners of the company, pressure to sell). But the fact that they haven’t sold to China for so long gives me hope. Mr. Adler clearly stated in the Q&A on his website that “AeroPress coffee makers are made in the USA”.

There are many on Amazon reviews, Youtube videos, blogs and social media that state without irony that a cup of coffee brewed in an AeroPress is the best they’ve ever had, even better than cups from a thousand- Dollar Coffee Makers. And surprisingly, I don’t see any Chinese “fake” brands aping the AeroPress design; AeroPress was wise not to outsource to subcontractors in China, who wouldn’t think twice about stealing their design and intellectual property secrets like so many other coffee machine companies in the US have done.

As I mentioned before, European companies like Krups and Braun (De’Longhi), which once prided themselves on keeping their production in Europe, are completely sold out. Luckily for anyone wanting to support a company that hasn’t completely sold out yet, the very best electronic automatic coffee maker is still not made in China.

It’s the Technivorm Moccamaster. All Technivorm Moccamaster filter coffee machines are handmade in the Netherlands and come with a 5-year limited warranty.

Admittedly, I spent half a day using their website and their Amazon page to make heads or tails out of their various models. They haven’t done a good job of maintaining logical branding for their products, so I’ll try to clear everything up for you here.

All Moccamaster models feature a copper boiling element that heats water to the perfect temperature for brewing coffee, just above boiling point (between 196 and 205 degrees F) and uses a unique heating plate on the base to keep the coffee at the perfect temperature for drinking either 175 or 185 degrees (no burning of the coffee). A full carafe is brewed in six minutes, and its unique 9-hole outlet arm pulses water over your coffee to ensure even extraction and saturation.

KBG – I ended up highlighting their most popular model, the KBG, as the best, although all models in this line are good choices. With this model, an automatic brewing basket ensures that nothing drips even when the pot is pulled away. It switches off automatically when the water tank is empty or after 100 minutes to be on the safe side. A switch allows you to brew a full carafe (6-10 cups) or half a carafe (2-6 cups), all with optimal brew cycles.

KB – This model is essentially the same as the KBG, but it doesn’t have an automatic brew basket (there is a switch that gives you more manual control to steep your coffee longer, allow for regular brewing, or close the brew basket, so you can pull the carafe away). It’s also limited to just one full carafe (6-10 cups).

KBGT and KBT – The “T” after the letter indicates the jug is an insulated thermos and not a glass carafe.

HBG and HB – These models are the same as the KBs except the hotplate is limited to 175 degrees.

The Technivorm Moccamaster is often cited as not only the best coffee maker not made in China, but also the best high-end coffee maker made by regular coffee drinkers and baristas alike. It has earned No. 1 from Cooks Illustrated, CNET and USA Today, is certified by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and has received the Seal of Approval from the European Coffee Brewing Center (ECBC), meeting its strict and extremely demanding Gold Cup quality guidelines. It regularly wins taste tests as the best-tasting cup of coffee from a filter brew machine anywhere.

BUNN couldn’t avoid manufacturing in China entirely, but for an industry pioneer, I’m impressed that they’ve managed to keep so much of their manufacturing at home. From the looks of it, most units in their “Speed Brew” line are still made in Iowa, while certain new models like the CSB1 and the “Heat N’ Brew” are made in China. Avoid those like the plague.

Within its US-made line, BUNN has a dizzying number of models to choose from, but most of the differences have to do with the choice of vessel (a glass carafe or a thermos) or the color of the device.

All models use an internal water tank made from commercial-grade stainless steel (not plastic) that keeps 70 ounces of water always hot. This makes this line of coffee makers one of the fastest (if not the fastest) in the world, brewing an entire carafe in 3-4 minutes, half the time of most coffee makers.

They all use a commercial-style multi-jet spray head to spray water evenly over your coffee, just like the equipment at your favorite cafe or coffee shop (which very likely uses commercial BUNN equipment made in the same facility).

If you’ve ever dealt with messy coffee grounds from a typical drip coffee maker, you’ll appreciate that BUNN filters (and the funnel that holds them) are 1/4″ taller than other filters, allowing water to flow quickly and prevented an overflow.

All of their models come with a three-year warranty.

Here are some of the differences between the models, mostly related to the external appearance.

– GRB Speed Brew Classic – This is the base model and the most popular. It has a classic black finish and a stainless steel name plate. It’s a glass carafe with a proprietary spout and lid design that makes messy dripping a thing of the past – your coffee flows straight into your mug with no mess. A hotplate keeps your coffee at just the right temperature. It also comes in white (GRW Speed Brew Classic) and with a slightly more modern tank design (BXB Speed Brew Classic). Each of these models dates back to 2003, so if you’re looking for ‘time-tested’ you’ll find it here.

– SBS Speed Brew – This device has the same features as above but comes in a modern curve design with high gloss and matte black finishes. It first became available in 2015.

– CSB2B Speed Brew Elite – This is the same as above, with a matte black finish and stainless steel splash and top accent. It’s also available in an altitude version that adapts the brew to air pressure differences at higher altitudes. The CSB2G Speed Brew Elite and CSB2G High Altitude Speed Brew Elite are identical with a gray matte finish and black gloss accents. These are the newest members of the family, launched in 2018, but the only real difference is in the aesthetics.

– CSB3T Speed Brew Platinum Thermal, CSB3T High Altitude Speed Brew Platinum Thermal and BT Speed Brew Classic Thermal are variations for those who prefer thermos glass carafes.

Not only are all models made in the USA, their customer service is based out of Springfield, Illinois, which means you don’t have to deal with non-native English speakers trying to sound convincing.

h/t to a Twitter user for this one. For those who love espresso or espresso-based coffee drinks, what better way than to buy one of the best espresso makers from Italy.

This espresso machine works on stovetops (including induction cooktops) and brews an “excellent” cup of espresso. Usually these units are only available in Italy, but third-party Amazon suppliers who import from Italy sell them.

To use, fill the base with water, insert a funnel and basket filter with espresso-ground coffee. When the water comes to a boil, the airtight design creates pressure inside the unit that brews the espresso quickly but perfectly. There is a great video here.

A few years ago I went to Disney World and took my wife and I to dinner at the fancy Victoria and Albert restaurant. When dessert time came, the waiter brought out a giant contraption that looked like it came out of Mr. Wizard’s science lab. I remember her turning on a gas burner and then watching the water and coffee shoot over an intricate series of glass tubes before landing in my coffee mug. It was, without exception, one of the best cups of coffee I’ve had in my life.

I happened upon this Hario coffee maker that works in the same way. The technology is called siphoning and it uses the laws of physics to brew a perfect cup of coffee. It has two glass chambers. The water in the lower chamber is heated and creates steam that fills the upper chamber with the coffee grounds. As the heat is removed, the now cooler lower chamber uses pressure to pull the water back out of the upper chamber through a filter. The result is a bright, rich, and clean cup of coffee.

I’ve been keeping an eye on Bodum for a while. Most coffee lovers recognize them as one of the most popular kitchen utensil brands. Bodum was founded in 1944 in Copenhagen, Denmark by Peter Bodum and the company relocated to Switzerland in 1978. They became particularly popular in the United States around 2016 when they struck a partnership deal with Starbucks that has since expired.

I know Bodum from the double-walled insulating glass. They were made in Switzerland for years, but in recent years all production has been going to China and the quality has dropped significantly. But consumers who have never experienced the old product continue to buy the new, not realizing what they are missing out on.

As of now, this French Press coffee maker and its version of the vacuum siphon coffee maker are still made in Portugal. But their movement of their iconic double-walled jars makes me suspicious if they plan to do the same with their other product lines. Hopefully not. Until then, they have a permanent place on my list of recommendations.

9 Best Coffee Makers for Elderly Seniors [2022 Reviews]

Starting the day with a delicious cup of coffee is the highlight of the morning for many people.

But for older seniors, brewing a cup of coffee can be difficult.

Many modern coffee makers are covered in small buttons and unreadable text, with countless customization options that many find overwhelming.

Nobody deserves to feel stressed while trying to make a cup of coffee – especially a senior who just wants a simple cup of coffee to start the day!

In this guide to the easiest coffee makers for the elderly, we go over what features to look for in a senior-friendly coffee maker and highlight a few top picks. Continue reading!

Features to look for in a coffee maker for seniors

Choosing an ideal coffee maker for seniors means sorting through several different features and units of different sizes, shapes and colors.

Before deciding on a unit, consider these characteristics to find the right mix that suits your senior and their preferences.

Easy control and auto power off

A coffee maker’s auto shut-off feature is a great way to prevent the machine from staying on and coffee burning on the bottom of the pot.

Simple controls are also a huge benefit for seniors, as many more sophisticated coffee makers have overwhelming and confusing displays.

Go for a coffee maker with just a few buttons that are big, easy to see and easy to press.

When it comes to devices for seniors, fewer and bigger buttons are almost always better, whether you’re buying a microwave, radio, vacuum or coffee maker!

Also, consider a senior wanting to set their brew times via the programming feature and – if that feature is important to them – make sure it’s not too difficult to set up. Although programming the automatic brew schedule is complicated, usually a caregiver can assist in setting the coffee schedule during initial setup.

French press vs. filter coffee machine vs. percolator

There are many different types of coffee makers that an elderly person can use to make a fresh cup of coffee! But what type of coffee maker is the best for seniors?

A French press is the easiest way to make coffee if the person has access to boiling water or a kettle – just add the coffee grounds and hot water to the carafe, let sit for a few minutes, then press down on the plunger filter enjoy. A French Press doesn’t even need electricity!

However, filter coffee machines are often more familiar to seniors and are also relatively easy to set up and operate. A filter coffee maker also offers additional features that can make life easier for a senior, such as: B. Programmable brewing not available on a French press.

Percolators can be a little more dangerous from a burn perspective, but many seniors are familiar with percolator design and may prefer this option over others.

What does the senior use?

The best coffee makers for seniors are the ones they are used to and have used for most of their lives.

Some individuals will prefer a percolator since they used it in their childhood, but others will prefer a drip machine. Familiarity can help those struggling with dementia or memory loss, or those who dislike change and prefer machines they are already familiar with.

Check the carafe handle

A grippy handle is essential for the elderly as it needs to be ergonomic and comfortable to use. A bad grip can increase the risk of the carafe falling or spilling!

Some carafe handles are designed with knuckle guards and drip-free spouts, which can also minimize the risk of burns.

Access to the filter basket

Accessing, emptying and refilling the filter basket can be tiring for those with arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome. One way to simplify this process is to choose machines where the filter basket is completely removable, or at least easily accessible.

Programmable coffee makers and timers

Programmable coffee makers have been around for a while, and these devices are helpful for those who like to have a cup of coffee ready at a set time every day. Many coffee makers allow you to program them to turn on a certain number of times in a 24-hour period, but it’s a good idea to read the instruction manual to make sure you have the right settings.

Some coffee makers may also come with a timer or an option to brew a drink at a set time. If there is a caregiver in the home, this feature can be used to brew a pot of coffee for a senior at a set time without the need for the caregiver to be present.

Glass vs. stainless steel carafe

While stainless steel carafes are less common than glass and plastic carafes, they keep your coffee warmer longer and don’t break as easily as glass. Many people prefer the look of a steel carafe to a glass carafe, but one downside is that you can’t see through it like you can with a glass carafe, so you can’t see how far the brewing process has progressed in the coffee maker.

Steel carafes can also have different cleaning requirements, and it’s harder to see how clean they are compared to glass.

Many seniors don’t have a lot of counter space for a large coffee maker. Instead, those with small kitchens may prefer a coffee maker with a small footprint that doesn’t take up too much space.

Large coffee makers tend to be ones with more functionality, such as programmable options, built-in grinders, and large-capacity water reservoirs.

Fortunately, there are plenty of options for the elderly, with larger machines as well as compact designs making them a worthy addition to even the most space-conscious kitchen.

Easy to read buttons and numbers

Many coffee makers and other devices have a mix of different sized buttons, some of which are on the small side and difficult to read for some seniors.

However, there are some coffee makers with few or no small buttons that instead opt for just one or two large buttons and these can make using this device much quicker and less complicated.

You should also make sure that any numbers on the device that show measurements are easy to read.

These markings are often found on the decanter and show the number of ounces left in the pot. You’ll also see them on the side of the reservoir so you know if you have enough water for your brew.

A bright screen

Many coffee makers have an LCD display, and this should be brightly lit and large enough to be easily viewed. Oftentimes, the display area includes backlit buttons, which are an excellent feature if the person is using this coffee maker in less than ideal lighting.

Loud and clear tones

Many coffee makers are quiet, but some have an alarm that lets you know when they’re done. These alerts can be in addition to button beeps when pressed and can help seniors navigate more complex machines.

The machine humidifies the coffee for superior flavor and uses an internal laser to read each pod barcode and brew the beverage individually, depending on whether the pod is for a dark or light roast, flavored or unflavored, etc.

To brew, simply lift the top, insert the pod, close the top, rotate the top handle to the locked position (an extended knob makes this easy) and press the flashing button on top of the machine. That’s it! The pods eject themselves after brewing, so you don’t even have to take out the old pods.

Safety concerns with coffee machines for the elderly

Many coffee makers come with standard safety features that are helpful to most seniors in standard households. These features include:

Automatic shutdown. The auto shut off feature prevents the coffee maker from becoming a fire hazard if a person forgets to turn it off. Some machines also turn off the coffee maker when they detect the pot is empty to prevent coffee from burning on the floor.

Burns and spills can be a problem for the elderly when using a coffee maker, which is why getting a carafe with a sturdy and comfortable handle is ideal.

The automatic pause function allows a person to remove the jug from the brew plate even while the coffee is still brewing – the system simply pauses the brewing process temporarily. Some coffee machines have a pause button, others automatically detect when the pot has been removed. The pause function prevents coffee from dripping onto the plate or your hand if you remove the carafe mid-brew, yet allows you to have an early cup of coffee when you just can’t wait a moment for your coffee!

Stainless steel carafe. Dropping the carafe is another problem as a full carafe is heavy and glass carafes will break if dropped. There is also a concern that cleaning a dropped glass carafe could result in lacerated hands and possible falls from bending over. Stainless steel carafes won’t shatter if dropped and don’t weigh much more than glass carafes, making them a good option for seniors with arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome.

Other things to consider when choosing a coffee maker

Other features to consider when choosing a coffee maker include:

total brewing time

Single-serve coffee makers vs. carafe

Disposable filters versus reusable or permanent filters

Why should older people drink coffee?

There are many cool and tasty beverages that seniors can drink to enjoy their health benefits. However, coffee is not a common one of them.

Caffeine is known to have a bad rap because it can make people overly irritable. This is a misconception, because coffee is actually very healthy. All the negative side effects can only come true if you consume too much coffee over a short period of time.

Drinking coffee without artificial additives, fatty creams and sugar will help you enjoy the benefits of this healthy beverage. Here are some reasons seniors should drink coffee more often.

1. Boosts neurological functions

It is quite common for our neurological functions to deteriorate somewhat as we age. Coffee increases some of the brain functions when it enters the bloodstream and travels to the brain.

Drinking a cup of coffee makes seniors more alert and focused. It is a powerful drink that boosts your concentration and memory functions. Older people who forget a lot or have symptoms of brain fog benefit from having a fresh cup of coffee in the morning.

Retrieving memories and newly learned information becomes a little more difficult as we age. Coffee promotes memory and learning, allowing you to feel more active.

2. Helps seniors cope with change

As a senior, you’ve probably been enjoying your favorite cup of coffee while reading your favorite newspaper for years. It gets pretty depressing to forget about coffee just because you’re getting older. You can get your fresh coffee and master your new post-retirement life.

3. Protects against cognitive degenerative diseases

Older people are at risk of developing cognitive degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. However, regular coffee consumption can significantly reduce the risk.

Seniors who drink 2 cups of coffee a day have a 60% lower risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. Coffee also lowers the risk of Alzheimer’s by 65%.

4. Reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes

As we age, some organs stop doing their jobs the way they used to. Consuming healthy beverages and beverages like coffee helps protect against age-related diseases.

People who enjoyed an extra cup of coffee per day experienced a 10% reduction in diabetes risk. In fact, regular coffee drinkers are almost 50% less likely to develop type 2 diabetes as they age.

In order for the coffee to be effective, however, it should be drunk without cream and other additives. Also, keep the amount of sugar to a minimum to help control your weight as you age.

5. Protects the vision

Eye problems are very common in old age. Coffee is full of healthy antioxidants that can protect retinal degeneration. Daily consumption of coffee guarantees sharp vision in old age.

6. Helps with depression

Drinking coffee lifts the mood. Most seniors experience mood swings because of the changes they experience as they get older. Consuming coffee helps you stay in a good mood.

7. Keeps your liver healthy

Liver cirrhosis and fatty liver are quite common in the elderly. However, drinking coffee can reduce risk and keep your liver healthy as you age.

However, to enjoy the health benefits of coffee, you need to make sure it’s free of sugar, additives, cream, and other fats that can damage your liver over time. Also, you shouldn’t drink too much coffee to stay healthy.

8. Increases your energy level

Coffee contains caffeine, which is a powerful stimulant. Seniors can experience a decline in their energy levels as they age. However, consuming coffee in moderation helps keep energy levels in check.

The aroma of coffee instantly lifts your spirits and helps you feel more energetic. When you drink coffee, you are likely to experience a boost of energy so that you can carry out all your tasks. It will help you start your day.

How to choose an easy-to-use coffee maker for the elderly?

Whether you are a senior or a caregiver, there are many factors to consider when purchasing a suitable coffee maker. The right one will help you brew an excellent cup of coffee that will help get you in the mood. Here are a few things to think about before you buy.

size

This refers to the number of cups you can brew with the coffee maker. A larger coffee maker means you can make coffee for the whole family. It can also be used to brew coffee for the whole day.

Smaller coffee machines are usually cheaper, but need to be refilled regularly. Choosing the size depends on how many people live in the household and how often you drink your favorite coffee.

Easy to use

Seniors need convenient devices that they can use with little or no help. A good coffee maker shouldn’t have too many buttons to confuse you while preparing your favorite cup.

There are many good models on the market that have a one button function. A push of a button is what you need to have your coffee ready in no time.

Another important feature is the on and off indicator. It’s common for seniors to feel confused, especially when learning to use a new kitchen appliance. This indicator helps you know when the coffee maker is working.

Easy to clean

Complicated coffee machines are difficult to clean. A senior may not be able to do the work on their own unless they are assisted by a caregiver.

However, some simple models have detachable carafes and containers. It’s easy to remove this part to enjoy the fresh taste of the coffee.

security

A drip-free coffee maker means the hot drink won’t drip and burn your hands while you’re pouring the coffee or picking up the coffee maker. You should make sure you can hold it without burning your hands.

Another safety feature is the automatic switch-off function. This prevents the coffee maker from working once the coffee is brewed. It helps keep the coffee maker in top condition and is also good for the environment. The coffee maker doesn’t use any electrical energy it doesn’t need, meaning you save on your energy bills.

Wrap up

A good and easy-to-use coffee maker for the elderly is what you need to get your day off to a good start. If you need a quality option that you can use with different cup sizes, you can take a look at these. It prepares your favorite coffee in less than a minute and doesn’t bother you like other noisy models on the market.

If this coffee machine is beyond your budget, you can try these. It’s lightweight and perfect for traveling. It also comes with an auto power off feature to save energy.

Drinking coffee in moderation is beneficial to your overall health. An easy-to-use coffee maker for the elderly lets you enjoy your favorite beverage while feeling independent.

What you should look for in a coffee machine for the elderly

Here are a few things to consider when buying a coffee maker for seniors.

Simple control

For seniors, it is better to choose a coffee maker with simple controls and easy-to-read labels. Buttons should be large and hassle-free. Also, if there is an LED panel, make sure the display is large and easy to read.

Programmable settings

Many coffee makers have programmable settings. These include a timer, auto shut-off, brew pause and self-cleaning mode.

filter

Some of the coffee machines on our list come with a permanent filter. This is a greener choice as it eliminates the need for annoying paper filters.

If a device doesn’t have a permanent filter, consider using reusable filters. They help you save money and protect the environment.

Carafe vs. single portion

Do you usually brew more than one cup of coffee? If so, then it is better to use a stainless steel carafe. They are more practical and safer. They also keep the coffee warm for longer.

If you prefer to brew just one cup of coffee at a time, then single-serve machines are the way to go. Their brewing time is faster and most of them don’t take up much space.

The judgment

These five best coffee makers for the elderly are some of the top rated machines out there. They have many options that make it easy for seniors to use them on a daily basis with little or no help.

Our top pick is the Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew. This coffee maker has several programmable settings. They give you full control over the brewing process to brew smooth, delicious coffee every time.
