Important information about the learning test

Don’t panic on the day you are supposed to take your test. Instead, relax and be on time. Also, don’t assume that you failed the exam. Below are important details you need to know about the learning permit exam:

After submitting the required documents, the DLTC will issue you with an application form (LL1) for the apprenticeship test. Some of the details to fill in include identification details. Foreigners must state their countries of origin and their status of residence (permanent or temporary).

A licensed optometrist will do an eye test on you and give you a form to submit to the DLTC.

Note that if you are over the age of 65 and book this permit, you will need to complete a Medical Certificate (MC) form with the DLTC before a qualified doctor will test your eyes.

Study all road signs and safety rules and become familiar with the class of motor vehicle you intend to drive before taking the exam.

Remember to have a booking receipt, issuance fee and ID with you on the day of the test.

Finally, if you pass the test and get your driving license on the same day, you will pay the R33 issuing fee.

What is the legal age to get a learner license in South Africa?

You cannot renew your learner driver’s license as it should be valid beyond the 24-month period. There are three different categories of permits:

1. Code 1 (from 16 years)

Code 1 license is issued for a motorized tricycle, quadricycle, motorcycle with or without a sidecar. In order for you to be readable for this driver’s license, you should be at least sixteen years old at the time of the test. Also, unless you are over the age of eighteen, your motorcycle engine displacement should not exceed 125cc.

2. Code 2 (from 17 years)

License code 2 is issued to motorists driving motor vehicles whose total weight does not exceed three thousand five hundred kilograms. These are light motor vehicles and the age limit for this driving test is seventeen.

You should therefore only apply for a permit with code EB or B, as you cannot apply for a permit with code C, C1, EC1 or EC with a code 2 learner driving license. They are also not allowed to learn or drive a heavy motor vehicle.

3. Code 3 (from 18 years)

Driver’s license code 3 is readable by motorists who drive vehicles whose total weight is more than three thousand five hundred kilograms. These are heavy motor vehicles and the age limit for the applicant for this permit is 18 years.

If you want to apply for a permit with code C, C1, EC1 or EG in the future, then get a learner’s license with code 3. However, you are not allowed to ride a motorcycle with a learner’s license code 3.

How do you check if your driver’s license is registered?

To verify a driver’s license, just type LTO LICENSE [Driver’s license number] and send it to 2600.

Fake Passports & Licences

Attempting to verify driver’s license and a license plate number at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) can present a great deal of difficulty for ordinary people who don’t have a contact person in the home.

Many car dealers have their own liaison officer who handles bulk transactions within the LTO office.

For ordinary people looking to buy a used car or to validate the identity of the said person who presented them with a driver’s license, there is an easier way to verify a driver’s license and license plate number without living where you are. This can be done via SMS or text messages with your phone.

To verify a driver’s license, simply enter LTO LICENSE [driver’s license number] and send it to 2600. Enter the driver’s license number without any spaces or the hyphen (-). If your license number is N06-66-666666, enter it like N0666666666.

To verify a license plate simply enter LTO VEHICLE [license plate] and send to 2600. Enter the license plate number with no spaces. If your license plate number is 6666 XX, enter it like 6666XX. This works for both motor vehicles and automobiles with the new format (e.g. XX 66666, XXX 6666, etc.)

It works with any network like Sun Cellular, Globe Telecom, Smart Communication, Talk n Text, Touch Mobile and other major networks.

Both checks are case-insensitive for keywords. You can type them in all lower case like in the first picture or in all upper case.

The driver’s license check only gives you the information about the validity of the driver’s license and whether the driver’s license has an unresolved alarm/concern.

For the license plate check you will receive the following information: make, model, year of manufacture, colour, last registration and whether there is an unexplained alarm / concern on the vehicle.

Verification costs Php2.50 for each successful verification.

In rare cases, you sometimes get the message “No record found”. SMS reply. The file or record you are looking for may not have been uploaded to the system immediately.

In this case, this is the time that you need to verify yourself at your nearest LTO office or branch.

For more information you can call the LTO on (02) 9229061-63.

Can you get penalty points on a foreign Licence?

Yes. Penalty points apply to both learner permits and full Irish driving licences. Penalty points also apply to drivers with foreign driving licences driving in Ireland. If someone is driving in Ireland on a foreign licence, a record will be created for penalty points.

Fake Passports & Licences

Introduction Ireland uses penalty points to enforce the Highway Code and to improve road safety. If you commit a traffic offense and the penalty for the offense includes penalty points, your driver’s license will be penalized with one or more penalty points. Some traffic offenses have other penalties, such as fines, as well as penalty points. The penalty point system for traffic offenses has been in force in Ireland since 2002. The law governing penalty points is the Road Traffic Act 2002. This law has been amended several times to add offenses for which penalty points can be awarded. While penalty points are noted on your driver’s license, the points do not physically appear on the driver’s license. Your penalty points will be recorded on your driver’s license which is maintained in the National Vehicle and Driver Record operated by the Department of Transport. Penalty point notes remain on your driver’s license for 3 years and must be communicated to your insurance company when you apply for car insurance. Motor vehicle insurance companies have had access to the national vehicle and driver file since 2014. Notes on your driver’s license often lead to an increase in your car insurance premium.

How do penalty points work? Penalty points will be recorded on your driver’s license if: you are convicted of a driving offense with penalties, or

You pay a penalty notice that was issued to you for an administrative offense that also has penalty points. If you receive 12 penalty points in a period of 3 years, your driving license will automatically be revoked for 6 months. Learner permit drivers will be disqualified if they have 7 penalty points. This lower limit also applies to the first 2 years of the first full driving licence.

Penalty points are not added to your license immediately. Fines and fine offenses Fines are imposed for driving offenses that are punished with penalty points and/or just a fine. If you receive a flat fine, you will receive a reminder from the Department of Transportation. If you pay the lump sum fine within 56 days, you will receive another communication from the Department of Transportation confirming that the penalty points will be added to your driver’s license. The penalty points will be added to your license 28 days later. If you do not pay the fine within 56 days, you will receive a summons to the district court. If you are convicted of a traffic offense in court, the court will notify the Department of Transportation of the number of penalty points associated with that conviction. The Department of Transportation will then issue a notification that these penalty points will be added to your driver’s license 28 days after the notification date. Information on fines and penalties can be found in our document on traffic offences.

How long will penalty points remain on my driver’s license? Penalty points will remain in your license record for 3 years. Any period during which your license has expired or you are serving a court disqualification will not count as part of the 3 years. If you collect 12 or 7 points and withdraw your license for 6 months, the points that led to the suspension will be deducted at the end of the 6 months. But if you had more violations that were not recorded on your license at the start of your 6 month suspension, those extra points would be added to your license and would remain on your license for 3 years (from the date your license was revoked).

What happens to my driver’s license if I have 12 or possibly 7 penalty points? If you have been told by the Department for Transport that you have had your driving license suspended for having scored 12 penalty points or more, you must surrender your license to the National Driving License Service for a period of 6 months. Which traffic offenses result in penalty points? The Road Traffic Act 2002, as amended, regulates penalties for traffic offences. The Traffic Safety Authority maintains an up-to-date list of traffic offences. Examples of penalty points and fines. Speeding: €80 fine plus 3 penalty points. If you’re caught speeding by a police traffic camera, you’ll receive a notice of your fine and penalty points in the mail. You have 28 days to pay your fine from the date you receive the notice. If you don’t pay your fine, the fine then increases to €120, which you must pay within 28 days. If after this time (56 days) you still have not paid your fine, the offense will be referred to the courts. In the event of a court conviction for speeding and non-payment of fines, you will automatically receive 5 penalty points and a fine of up to €1,000. Seat belt offenses: If you drive without a seat belt or allow children under the age of 17 to ride in your car without a seat belt, you will be fined a lump sum of €60. You must pay this fine within 28 days, otherwise you will face an increased fine of €90, payable within 56 days of the offence. 3 penalty points will be added to your driver’s license if you pay the fine on time. If you are convicted in court of not wearing a seat belt, 5 penalty points will be added to your driving license and you face a €2,000 fine for the first offence. Read more about seat belts and the law in Ireland. Motor vehicle insurance offences: If you drive without insurance, you get 5 penalty points and have to appear in court. The court can impose a fine of up to €5,000 and sentence you to imprisonment for up to 6 months. Instead of awarding penalty points, the court can revoke your driving license. Careless driving: If you “drive a vehicle in a public place without due care and attention” you can get up to 5 penalty points on your driving license and a fine of up to €5,000. If negligent driving leads to death or serious bodily harm, if convicted on prosecution, you face imprisonment of up to 2 years or a fine of up to €10,000 or both. Other penalty point questions What happens if someone else was driving my vehicle?

If the driving violation was detected by camera, the report goes to the registered owner of the vehicle. If the registered owner was not driving at the time of the violation, they should complete the form attached to the notice and provide details of who was actually driving. This must then be sent back to the fixed cost processing office with the original decision. do not enclose payment. The Gardaí then issue a message to the driver.

Do all Irish driving licenses have penalty points? Yes. Penalty points apply to both learner permits and full Irish driving licences. Penalty points also apply to drivers with foreign driving licenses driving in Ireland. When someone drives in Ireland with a foreign license a penalty book is kept. If the driver accumulates 12 penalty points over a 3 year period they will be disqualified from driving in Ireland.

How do you find out how many penalty points you have on your driver’s license? To find out how many penalty points are on your driving licence, contact the National Driving License Service (NDLS) on 0818 700 800 or email [email protected] and quote your driving license number.

Penalty points from other jurisdictions Penalty points from other countries (including EU/EEA member states and the UK) are not recognized between states. Although a European Driving Disqualifications Convention was signed by Member States in June 1998, it is not currently in force. However, the UK and Ireland have a separate agreement that allows each country to recognize disqualifications (but not penalties) for certain offences. Can penalty points be canceled? If you have been issued penalty points (or a flat fee without penalty points), you can request the Gardaí to cancel the points. You must demonstrate that there are valid procedural or exceptional grounds for cancellation. Proceedings – examples include: A technical problem resulted in incorrect information being recorded (e.g. an incorrect speed limit was detected).

You are exempt from the administrative offence, for example you have an exemption from buckling up. See our document on seat belts)

You were penalized because you had no taxes or insurance, but you can show you had road taxes or insurance at the time of the alleged offence

The car was stolen and you received a court order and/or penalty points for offenses committed after the vehicle was stolen

The vehicle no longer belonged to you Unusual reasons – examples include you exceeded the speed limit because you were taking someone to the hospital

You exceeded the speed limit because you were responding to an emergency in your home (such as a fire or gas leak).

Which European country has the easiest driving test?

Latvia is the European country where it is easiest to learn to drive, and it is the third easiest country in the world to get behind the wheel. A test in Latvia only costs £26, which is cheaper than Mexico and Qatar, but their minimum driving age is older at 16.

Fake Passports & Licences

Being able to drive is a freedom many dream of when they grow up, get behind the wheel and set out to explore the world on four wheels. But for some, the reality of becoming a legal driver is harder than they imagined, with tricky tests and lots of information to learn before being allowed on the freeways.

However, in some parts of the world these tests are slightly less difficult and this combined with the financial cost of the tests can make it easier for drivers in certain countries to obtain a driver’s license. But where in the world is the easiest place to learn to drive? Based on the cost of exams, their difficulty and the age you’re allowed to drive, we’ve ranked the world’s easiest countries to learn to drive.

The easiest countries to learn to drive

1: Mexico – Learn to Drive Score, 9.48/10

Getting behind the wheel in Mexico is incredibly easy for a number of reasons: first, in much of the country, by law, you don’t have to take a practical test to get a driver’s license, just a theory test, and before 2018 there was no test at all. Another reason is that you can legally drive in Mexico at 15, which is younger than most countries (which don’t let you drive before 18).

2: Qatar – Learn to Drive Score, 7.39/10

The youngest age you can legally drive in Qatar is incredibly low at just fourteen, which is almost half a decade younger than the global average. In addition, the price of a driving test in Qatar is £30, which is less than half the world average of £75. The road test in Qatar includes both a theoretical and a practical part.

3: Latvia – Learn to Drive Score, 7.03/10

Latvia is the easiest European country to learn to drive and the third easiest country in the world to get behind the wheel. A test in Latvia costs just £26, which is cheaper than Mexico and Qatar, but their minimum driving age is 16.

4: United States – Learn to Drive Score, 6.95/10

Just like Latvia, the age at which you can drive in the US is 16 (although a handful of states have slightly different laws) and similarly, in the five easiest countries to drive, they don’t require hours of instruction before you can Take an exam. The cost of the test in the US is slightly below the world average at £84 ($116).

5: Canada – Learn to Drive result, 6.93/10

The third North American nation in the top 5 easiest countries to drive in the world is Canada, which comes in a close third in the battle for the easiest place to learn to drive on the continent. Canada’s overall score of 6.93 is just 0.02 behind the US as a £14 test is slightly more expensive.

The most difficult countries to learn to drive

1: Croatia – Result “Learn to drive”, 1.96/10

Croatia is the most difficult country to get behind the wheel due to its expensive and rigorous driving tests that require a minimum level of learning and supervision. Average Croatian driving lessons average around 85 hours and it is a legal requirement to complete these hours before you can even take an exam. Croatians also have to present multiple medical certificates and spend around £930 to pass their test and get their licence.

2: Brazil – Learn to Drive Score, 3.21/10

Before you can take a road test in Brazil, you have to complete a total of 60 lessons, of which 45 are theory lessons and 15 are practical lessons on the road. Brazilian laws also require applicants to undergo excessive medical screening, such as a psychological test, before being allowed to drive. The total cost of all these tests averages around £213 and all these factors combine to make Brazil the second most difficult country to become a driver in.

3: Hungary – Learn to Drive score, 3.59/10

Hungary is the third most difficult country to get behind the wheel. Hungarians wishing to pass their test must undergo an eye exam and medical exam and then complete at least 58 hours of classes before being able to take a test. On the plus side for prospective Hungarian drivers, they can get a driver’s license a year earlier than in most countries and the cost is relatively cheap.

4: Bahrain – Learn to Drive Score, 3.62/10

Bahrain is the fourth hardest country to drive a car. Medicine, theory and finally a practical test must be taken by prospective Bahrani drivers. In addition, they must be 18 to start driving and the test costs £361.

5: Montenegro – Learn to Drive, score 3.79/10

The fifth hardest country to drive is the small European country of Montenegro, which achieved a score of 3.79. Montenegro has the ninth most expensive driving test at £239, plus a medical and eye exam is required before the test. Only then can the 18-year-old prospective driver take a theoretical test and a practical driving test.

The cheapest and most expensive countries to take a driver’s license test

Younger people in society are, on average, those with the lowest incomes and savings, and consequently the cost of a driving test is a big factor in how easy it is to drive in any country.

cheapest countries

1: Pakistan – £0.89

A Pakistan driving test is incredibly cheap, in fact it costs less than £1 (PKR 200). Not only are the tests affordable, but they are said to be incredibly easy, which is why the country has a high pass rate.

2: India – £1

Across the border in India, taking a driving test is almost as cheap as its neighbor at £1. It’s incredibly cheap and just like in Pakistan, the test is incredibly easy with a high pass rate.

2: Viet Nam – £2

Another Asian nation completes the three cheapest nations to take a driving test as it only costs the equivalent of £2 in Vietnam. The Vietnamese test consists of 450 questions in a theory test and a short practical test.

The most expensive countries

1: Croatia – £930

As mentioned, 85 hours of driving lessons are a mandatory part of a Croatian driving test and consequently this makes a test there incredibly expensive. With the average fee for the tests worldwide being £106, Croatians have to pay an average of £824 more than most countries.

2: Malaysia – £505

The Malaysian driving test is very thorough and therefore very expensive, requiring applicants to complete theoretical and practical tests. In addition, Malaysians must complete 33 hours of tuition. Although the total cost of £505 is over £400 less than Croatia, it’s still expensive enough to put it second.

3: Andorra – £401

The tiny Pyrenean principality of Andorra is the third most expensive nation to take a driving test in, with a total cost of just over £400. Because Andorra is so small, all testing takes place at the same test center one day a week.

Countries with the craziest driving tests

While many countries allow drivers to sit a theory test and a practical test, the severity of these tests varies greatly from country to country. So we picked three nations that we think have insanely easy tests.

India – India has the deadliest roads in the world. In 2011, almost 74 million vehicles were on the roads in India (about double the number in the UK). In the UK, around 3,000 people were killed on the roads annually, while in India the figure was 196,000, equivalent to 22 deaths per hour. It is not surprising that so many pass the Indian driving test. All you have to demonstrate is the ability to drive forward, turn left and then stop after 50 meters to get a driver’s license.

Burundi – The driving test in Burundi seems a bit pointless as it is not required by law and the majority of drivers do not have one. In addition, no training is required before the test, and despite this, many tests pass, which does not bode well for the quality of the test. 4.42% of all deaths in Burundi have been on the road, and this is exceptional given that there are only 63,000 cars registered in the country.

Egypt – The road test in Egypt has long been the subject of ridicule from the rest of the world, judging by the fact that it used to require driving back and forth 10 feet to pass. It’s a bit more difficult now, however, as they now have to drive 6 meters forwards and backwards around a curve and pass a short theory test.

methodology

We looked at the data for every country in the world and removed the 87 for which we couldn’t find complete data, leaving us with 108.

We then further shortened the list to include only developed or affluent countries, we included any country that met one of these three criteria:

Any nation that is an OECD member country.

Any nation with a score of 8 or more on the Human Development Index

Any nation with one of the 50 largest GDPs in the world

We have chosen to combine seven aspects to create the overall driving test score, these are:

Age at which you can drive

Driving test costs

Is a theory test required?

Is a practical test required?

Is an eye test required?

Is a medical examination required?

Hours of compulsory classes to take the exam

Data was found from numerous websites including Zuto, Admiral and World Atlas.

For some countries where data elements were missing, we found individual sources. Compiling the scores for each category, we used a weighted index calculation to give each nation a score out of ten, which we then ranked them by.

Who is behind this study?

Zutobi is an international driver education company with courses in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Sweden and Germany. Our mission is to help make the streets safer.

Can you get penalty points in the UK with an Irish driving Licence?

Penalty points cannot be applied to driving licences from another country.

Fake Passports & Licences

The Traffic Safety Authority maintains records of foreign license holder penalty violations, and license details can be verified through this “ghost” file. Photo: Cyril Byrne

Fifteen motorists suffered a nasty shock when they swapped their UK licenses for Irish ones because of Brexit – an immediate driving ban.

Figures released by The Irish Times under the Freedom of Information Act show that 15 drivers who exchanged their UK or Northern Ireland driving license for a Republic driving license had accumulated 12 or more penalty points and as a result faced an immediate six-month disqualification were .

No penalty points can be credited to driving licenses from other countries. However, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) maintains a ‘ghost file’ of penalty infractions recorded by foreign driver’s license holders, which can be used to confirm the license details.

Garda sources said this was usually due to Gardaí stopping the motorist and taking his license details.

Details of the points accumulated by these drivers are stored and, should the driver later apply for an Irish driving licence, the points are then credited. The three year expiry of points only begins when they are applied to an Irish licence.

Brexit

Between 2019 and 31 December, more than 71,000 UK or Northern Ireland driving licenses were exchanged for Irish driving licenses to allow holders to legally drive in the state once Brexit comes into force.

As of that date, it is no longer legal for residents of that state to drive on a UK driving licence.

Visitors to Ireland who hold a UK or Northern Ireland driving license are still allowed to drive as visitors in Ireland with their existing driving license and do not need an international driving license to drive as long as they have their UK or Northern Ireland driving license with them.

According to the RSA’s FoI records, 15 drivers who exchanged their UK or Northern Ireland license had 12 or more points and were immediately banned.

Five riders had 11 points, two riders had 10 and 118 had nine points. Records show that in total more than 8,000 points were awarded to drivers who exchanged a UK or Northern Irish license for an Irish one.

  5. An incorrect date of birth.

Fake Passports & Licences

Most people know that under the Licensing Act 2003 it is against the law to sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 18.

This is a simple law to obey, but it can sometimes prove tricky in practice:

What if someone looks older than they actually are?

How do I know how to spot a fake ID?

What if you get it wrong?

To help you comply with this law, it’s a good idea to ask for identification from anyone you believe is a minor. By asking people to prove their age, you avoid accidentally selling alcohol to underage people and avoid facing penalties for doing so.

You may already be familiar with the Challenge 25 program designed to help you with this – the system simply informs the customer that if they’re lucky enough to look under 25, you’ll ask them for proof of age before approval Sale.

However, this presents us with another problem: how do you know if the ID you receive is genuine? It’s against the law for a child to use a fake or borrowed ID to buy alcohol, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try.

Fake ID cards are easily available online or borrowed from older friends and siblings, and this is how they often find their way into our bars, pubs, shops and supermarkets. So what can you do about it?

Download this article in PDF format

Acceptable IDs

When asking a customer for ID, there are only three acceptable proofs of age that you should accept:

A valid passport.

A photo license.

A Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) card.

Each ID must include a photograph of the individual, their date of birth and an official hologram.

It is important that you check these things very carefully to ensure that the photo is of the correct person and that it is real and not fake. It’s more common than you might think for young people to borrow an ID from an older friend or sibling to try and buy alcohol.

Prohibited IDs

Apart from the above passports, driver’s license and PASS card, any other forms of ID should not be accepted as proof of age. This includes items such as:

student cards.

birth certificates.

library cards.

Bus/train passes.

Credit/Debit Cards.

If a customer tries to give you one of these as proof of age, you should not authorize the sale until a valid ID is presented. You may want to explain to the customer the law and the fines you could face if you sell alcohol without valid proof of age.

Types of Fake IDs

Government guidelines explain that there are five types of forged documents:

A real document used by someone else, e.g. a child using his older sibling’s passport.

A real document that has been modified, e.g. a driver’s license with the date of birth scratched off.

A genuine document obtained fraudulently, e.g. a real passport that was stolen and used by someone else.

A forged document that is a copy of a real document, e.g. someone who replicates a person’s existing driver’s license.

A forged document that is a non-existent form of ID, e.g. a provisional motorcycle license.

Some of the most common fake IDs include those that look like driver’s licenses, such as B. National identity cards, European or international driving licenses and provisional motorcycle driving licenses.

How to recognize a fake ID card

You can identify a fake PASS card by the following characteristics:

A hologram that is glued to the plastic instead of being smooth.

An artificial looking hologram in appearance.

A photo glued to the top of the plastic.

A photo that does not match the person presenting the ID.

A wrong date of birth.

Details that have been altered or manipulated.

A non-smooth surface.

Authentic UK PASS cards must have:

A 3D hologram with the characteristic “A” in the lettering.

A photo that suits the person.

A valid date of birth – You can calculate the person’s age based on their date of birth or look for the 18+ symbol on the map.

A flat, smooth surface.

How to spot a fake driver’s license

You can recognize a fake driver’s license by the following characteristics:

A fake flag picture.

The wrong words at the top, e.g. “National Identity Card” or “International Driver’s License”.

Different languages.

A plain or simply patterned background.

A photo in the wrong place.

No signature/wrong signature.

Fake holograms.

information in the wrong places.

Driver’s licenses are designed to be difficult to counterfeit and have many features that are difficult to duplicate.

Authentic UK driving licenses must have:

First name, last name, date and place of birth.

License issue date, photo sequence and issuing authority.

A driver number.

A valid photograph (black and white on recent photo cards).

The owner’s signature.

The address of the owner.

Permission Categories.

A hologram of a steering wheel over the person’s photo that “spins” as you move the map.

More holographic images on the front.

Pictograms on the back.

A green/gold steering wheel image on the back.

information codes.

A complex background pattern.

How to spot a fake passport

The UK government makes minor changes to UK passports every 5 years to prevent the production of real looking fake passports.

Authentic UK passports must:

Be the right size (approx. 125 x 88 mm).

Passports issued after November 2015 have 34 pages.

Passports issued before November 2015 should have 32 pages (48 for a business book).

Have a digitally printed photo with a holographic overlay.

Have a 9 digit number on side 1.

Have a perforated serial number on all sides.

Provide the signature of the owner.

You can recognize a fake passport by the following characteristics:

An invalid expiration date.

Personal data that has been altered or manipulated.

An incorrect page number for the time it was issued.

A photograph that has not been digitally printed.

No holograms or perforations.

No passport chip.

Words, signatures or pictures in the wrong places.

Passports are the only other form of identification you should accept from a customer. This can be a UK passport or a foreign passport, although it is more difficult to determine the validity of a foreign passport unless you are familiar with its design.

There are minor differences between older and newer passports. The differences include:

The number of pages.

The page designs.

The presence of a chip: Passports issued after 2010 have a chip in the passport shell, while older passports will find the chip on page 32.

What to do if you come across a fake ID

If a customer presents you with a fake ID, it’s important that you handle it properly.

If you are not satisfied that the ID is genuine, you should always refuse the sale and ask the person to leave the premises. You should then make a note of this in your denial/incident book.

Only certain people are authorized to confiscate a false ID, but if you present it you can ask the customer to give you the ID.

It is also within your right to mention that the police can be called to investigate if they do not release the fake ID.

Once you have the ID in your possession, you should keep it in a safe place until the police can collect it or a supervisor can take it to the police station.

The UK government recognizes door staff as the first line of defense against fake IDs. Therefore, they believe that you are not committing a crime by confiscating the ID as you lack the dishonest intent required to commit the crime of theft. This gives door staff the ability to confiscate false IDs under common law. If you confiscate a counterfeit ID, it’s a good idea to record each confiscated ID in an incident ledger

How to improve your awareness of licensing law

The Licensing Act Awareness Training is designed to raise awareness of your responsibilities under the Licensing Act 2003 by outlining the main objectives of the Act and explaining how premises and license holders can ensure they are met by making their facilities safe and welcoming places.

The training is suitable for anyone with responsibility for premises covered by the regulations, including employers, supervisors and managers of designated premises.

Fake Passports & Licences

Posted by Jason, updated May 8, 2018

Have you ever wondered how to spot a fake ID? Whether you’re a bouncer, liquor store owner, or security guard, you need to know how to spot a fake ID. Many fake IDs are poorly made and easy to spot. However, don’t get cocky. Counterfeiters are smarter than ever. With new technology and sophisticated techniques, they have kept up with the latest security measures and fooled the experts. But even with the updated Fake IDs, there are many easy ways to tell the fake from the real thing. Here are 25 easy ways to tell if an ID is fake.

Can you see a UV image on an ID?

UV IMAGE

Commonly called a blacklight image, a UV image appears when UV light is shined on an ID. The image can depict anything from a photo of the cardholder to the name of the issuing state. UV images may appear on the front or back of a card. Hover to view details.

Fake Passports & Licences

The essential task of every notary is to verify the identity of his signers. Signers present their driver’s license or ID card every day and attract a lot of attention. With so many sophisticated fake and altered IDs on the market, how can you be sure that someone’s ID is valid? Verifying the security features of the ID card is crucial.

Document fraud expert Joseph Vasil recommends checking these five common security features of an ID card:

Hover over to view details.

1. HOLOGRAM

Most states issue driver’s licenses that contain a hologram. To view a hologram, simply hold the badge up to a light source and tilt it back and forth. On government-issued ID cards, the holograms typically show state seals, state flags, or historical references to that jurisdiction. Generic holograms such as lock-and-key symbols or words like “authentic” or “secure” are rarely used on government-issued ID cards.

Hover over to view details.

2. UV IMAGE

Commonly referred to as a black light image, a UV image appears when UV light shines on an ID card. The image can be anything from a photo of the cardholder to the name of the issuing state. UV images can appear on the front or back of a card.

Hover over to view details.

3. MICRO PRINTING

This is a very small print (text) that you will need a magnifying glass to see. It is sometimes camouflaged in the background pattern of an ID. (This is the best and quickest way to spot fakes.)

Hover over to view details.

4. LASER PERFORATION

Small holes are made in the ID card during production. When the card is viewed against a direct light source, a distinct shape or image appears. These images are typically representative of the issuing jurisdiction.

Hover over to view details.

5. TACTILE PROPERTY

Raised (tactile) printing on a badge can represent a badge number, date of birth, or date of issue and expiry. You can detect a tactile feature by running your fingers over the map’s surface.

Not every state incorporates all of these security features into its driving and ID credentials. As mentioned above, the images encoded in an ID document are usually unique to the state that issues it. It’s a good idea to keep up to date with the security features included in ID cards issued by your state. For other states, it is important to have a reliable ID reference guide to compare a live ID with credentials issued in that state.

The date from which it is valid

when it expires

Your driver’s license number – and issue number – will also be displayed.

Other ways to verify your driver’s license

Sometimes there can be a problem checking your license in the usual way. In these situations you must use GOV.UK Verify.

It’s a surefire way to prove who you are online. There are 2 companies authorized to verify your information: Digidentity and the Post.

You can create an identity account with either. They should ask you questions and check your ID documents. This service can then verify your driver’s license information and provide you with a driver’s license verification code.

You can also apply by calling 0300 083 0013. Lines are manned Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Applications can also be submitted by post via the DVLA. You must either fill out an application form or send a letter with your full name, address and driver’s license number. If you don’t have your license number, you can use your date of birth.

They then send it to: DACT Team, DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AJ.

What is a driver’s license verification code?

A driver’s license verification code allows you to share your driver’s license information with someone else. This can be your insurance company, an employer or a car rental company.

An option to generate a code should be available when viewing your driver’s license information online. The code is valid for 21 days.

In addition to the code, you may be asked to enter the last 8 characters of your driver’s license.

What is my driver’s license number?

This is a 16-digit number that is unique to you. It will appear on your photocard driver’s license under the driver’s license expiration date.

It starts with the 5 first letters of your last name. If it has fewer letters, the remaining spaces should be filled with the number 9.

Next appear numbers showing the year, month, and day of your birth. This is followed by the first 2 letters of your first name – or the character 9 if you have only one initial.

Then there are random numbers generated by a computer as a security measure.

Remember – never post pictures of your driver’s license online as they can be used by scammers trying to impersonate you.

You may see a 2-digit number to the right of this 16-digit license number. This is a ‘License Issue Number’ which increments each time you obtain a new UK driving licence.

What is my provisional driver’s license number?

If you are a learner driver with a green photo ID, your provisional driver’s license number will appear in the same place as the full driver’s license. It’s a 16-digit number below the expiration date.

As this driver’s license number is unique to you, it should be transferred to your full driver’s license once you have passed the driving test.

One of the only times your driver’s license number can change is if you change your name, either through marriage or by deed.

How can I check my license if I have penalty points?

Any penalty points you have received – as well as any disqualifications – will be recorded in your driving record. This can always be checked online via the government website.

It shows the endorsements received and when they can be removed. They should remain on your driver’s license for between 4 and 11 years depending on the offence.

You can also have your driver’s license revoked if you receive 12 or more penalty points within 3 years.

The rules are even stricter if you’re a new driver. Your license can be revoked for earning 6 or more points within 2 years of passing the exam.

Do I need my driver’s license number to get car insurance?

You are not legally required to provide your driver’s license number when purchasing car insurance. However, you must provide the insurers with information about your driver’s license and your history.

It is still possible to declare this information yourself. However, some insurers may not provide coverage if you are not willing to share it.

If you share your license information with them online, they can verify that everything you’ve told them is correct.

It also avoids mistakes that not only invalidate future claims but can also lead to you being accused of insurance fraud.

Compare car insurance quotes Request a quote

What information can insurers collect?

By agreeing to share your driver’s license information, insurance companies gain access to basic information. This can be used to ensure you get a fair deal.

This contains:

Which cars you can drive

your driving history

How long have you had your driver’s license

Whether you have had penalty points or convictions in the last 5 years

This information is used to calculate your car insurance quote. It also uses any other details you gave the insurer about you and your car.

What driver’s license information do I need to verify?

It’s always worth making sure the information on your license is current and accurate. For example, does the driving license show the correct residential address?

It’s easy to forget to update your license when you move, but failing to do so could result in a fine of up to £1,000.

Also pay attention to the expiry date of the license. Photo card licenses must be renewed every 10 years to ensure the image on the card is a true likeness of the driver.

Where can I check how my personal information is being used?

The DVLA treats personal data in accordance with road traffic and data protection law.

You can read more about how this is processed and your rights at GOV.UK.

Where can I get more information about the driver’s license?

For more information on driving licences, go to GOV.UK.

If you notice a sudden increase in your usage (and your phone bill), it could very well be due to spyware or some other form of malware. Spyware apps run 24/7 and consume a lot of data. Does your phone make static noise or echoes during a call? While isolated instances of this are usually due to a faulty connection, if you regularly hear background noise, it could be a sign that someone is recording your call. Do you notice a significant decrease in your battery performance even though you haven’t changed any settings or installed new apps? This could very well be a sign that your iPhone is infected with spyware. If you’re not using your phone and it stays hot for no apparent reason, there’s a good chance you have some sort of malware installed on your mobile device. If mysterious, gibberish code-type messages are appearing on your phone, now is the time to be alerted. Spyware typically accesses and controls your iPhone remotely through encrypted SMS commands. Types of Fake IDs

Government guidelines explain that there are five types of forged documents:

A forged document that is a form of ID that does not exist

A real document used by someone else is a common trick used by minors buying alcohol or trying to get into clubs. Using an ID card that has been altered or belongs to an older sibling carries a fine of £5,000 and up to 10 years in prison.

Documents obtained fraudulently include stolen passports, while forged documents are often the product of organized crime.
