Which sticks to use? I use wooden skewers meant for grilling, but appetizer sticks or lollipop sticks might work as well.

Which skewer size? It depends on the size of kebabs you want to cook. I used bamboo skewers that are 10 inches long. You can always shorten them.

Where do fruit skewers come from? They’re the sweet and fruity version of a popular meat dish called shish kabob.

Can you buy these in store and where to buy them? You can find ready-made fruit skewers at most large supermarkets that offer party appetizer platters. They’re convenient to buy but much more expensive than the homemade ones, which you can easily make in under 20 minutes.

It’s that simple – just use whatever fruit you like. Keep in mind that some fruits may soften and brown sooner than others.

In general for fruit skewers I would suggest using firmer fruit but make sure they are ripe.

I avoid bananas, apples and pears because they oxidize.

Melon, pineapple, and berries are great choices for fruit skewers like this one. Grapes and citrus fruits like oranges or tangerines also work well. I’m a big kiwi fan and it’s also perfect for skewers, just make sure you cut a little thicker slices so they hold up well.

Can you add marshmallows? Yes, I’ve seen people add them, but I don’t usually do that.

How do you make fruit skewers?

Another option is a yogurt dipping sauce, which is basically Greek yogurt or sour cream sweetened with honey and flavored with vanilla. I usually use 1 cup Greek yogurt + 2 tbsp honey + 1/2 tsp vanilla extract.

Perfect for a BBQ or summer party. How you present them is up to you. You can arrange them on a large serving platter and put a dip (if you’re using one) in the center or on the side.

You can also arrange like “Edible Arrangements” by gluing the skewers to Styrofoam or placing them vertically in a vase (large glass). Use your imagination.

I would say two skewers is one serving. But since these are usually prepared as a party appetizer and treat alongside other food and drinks, you can have as many as you like!

It’s important that you take an extra step in storing and storing the fruit skewers so you can serve up a fresh and delicious party appetizer that is presentable and not browned or spoiled.

Fresh figs – not everyone will know how to eat these, so I like to cut them into quarters. Then they’re bite-sized so people don’t wonder if they can eat the skin – Note: yes, you eat the skin of figs. Dried fruits (especially for an autumn/winter fruit platter). Go for anyone you like. Aside from the pineapple, another important aspect of cutting a pineapple is a good knife. Make sure you have a reliable, sharp knife handy.

*Note: There are numerous ways to cut a pineapple. This is the method that works best for me.

Step 1: Cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple.

Step 2: Halve the pineapple.

Step 3: Cut each half in half again, leaving quarters.

Step 4: A hard core runs down the middle of the pineapple. Stand each quarter upright and slice straight down to remove the core. You can easily see where the core is to know how much to cut off.

Step 5: Halve each quarter again, leaving 8 pineapple sticks. I do this so it’s easier to cut off the outer skin, it also makes it easier to cut the pineapple into chunks.

Step 6: Cut off the outer skin of the pineapple and discard it. Repeat this step for all 8 pineapple sticks.

Step 7: If you’re making Grilled Pineapple with Brown Sugar and Cinnamon, you’ll need to cut the pineapple into sticks so you’re done at this point. If you’re using the pineapple for smoothies, consider chopping the spears into bite-sized pieces, as shown below.

That’s all there is to it! I freeze pineapples for smoothies and they last about 10-12 months in the freezer. If you’re just refrigerating the pineapple, you should eat it within 5 days.

Simple fruit bowls or platters are one of my favorite dishes to take to big parties and potlucks. In this article I will share tips and ideas for making a fruit tray!

Easy fruit tray ideas

Fruit is colorful and packed with a variety of nutrients and fiber, making it a beautiful and healthy addition to any meal. A DIY tray is a great appetizer or side dish for entertaining guests.

I can’t count the number of fruit bowls I’ve made or helped make over the past few years. My kids seem to eat like birds at parties when there’s excitement that can easily distract them. So if you pick up a fruit or veggie tray, make sure they get some healthy bites of food.

Start by buying seasonal fruit. I prefer to use apples and grapes all year round. Choose 4 to 6 fruits for a basic tray and more for larger groups of people.

If there are many children, we like to stick to a simple fruit arrangement. Fruit can be shaped into a rainbow, Christmas tree, flag, cross for Easter, or any other shape you can think of to vary.

How to serve bananas on a platter

Peel the bananas and cut into bite-sized pieces thick enough to enjoy with a fork or toothpick.

Then quickly dip the slices in pineapple juice to keep them from turning brown.

Apples can be prepared this way up to a day in advance, but bananas should not be sliced ​​until a few hours before serving.

Tips for making fruit bowls

Here are tips I use to make a great fruit tray!

Wash the grapes, take a pair of scissors and cut off the stalks, leaving bunches with 3 to 5 bunches of grapes. This method works best for adults. If the party is mostly kids, we’re happy to remove every grape from the stem. The small bunches show up much easier and are very quick to prepare.

How to make a fruit tray

Leave all fruit washed, dried and within easy reach on the counter or table.

If the tray is small, make a stack or cluster of each fruit.

For a larger tray that’s ideal for a party, use two groupings of each fruit, facing each other. This makes it easier for people to eat from either side of the tray and adds visual interest.

Start by placing the largest pieces of fruit in opposite corners. Add other large or medium sized pieces of fruit in heaps.

In this arrangement, the apples are the largest pieces of fruit. I grouped yellow, gold delicious apples versus red Fuji apples.

Peeled tangerines are stacked in the center of the tray between the stacks of apples.

Avoid placing fruits of the same color next to each other. Distribute it whenever possible.

Save fruit that is particularly light-colored or more expensive to accentuate the top of the tray.

I like to accent fruit plates with kiwi, small berries like raspberries, blackberries or blueberries.

Adding another small layer in patches will add more dimension, height and possibly color.

Cheesecake dip for fruit is rich and delicious. Mix cream cheese with marshmallow creme, hints of orange and ginger for a wonderful treat!

Cinnamon Fruit Dip mixes cream cheese, marshmallow fluff, and cinnamon for a dip that pairs well with most types of fruit.

Lemon Fruit Dip tastes great with fruit, vanilla waffles or animal crackers.

What you need to make these skewers

All you need are some skewers, a heart-shaped cookie cutter, a few cups of strawberries, a small watermelon, a cantaloupe, a honeydew melon, and some blueberries and you’re in business.

I have a small set of cookie cutters that I ended up using quite a bit.

I also use them when making cakes – I like to cut a few stars out of the cake batter and place them over the top of the cake to create a pretty crust.

I recently started slicing fruit for my breakfast smoothie bowls, which got me thinking about some heart-shaped, healthy skewers for Valentine’s Day.

I think it would be fun to make a few other heart colors and I would recommend trying pineapple or dragon fruit for different textures and flavors.
