Video game 2020

Genshin Impact[b] is an action role-playing game developed and published by miHoYo. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, iOS and Android in 2020 and for PlayStation 5 in 2021. The game will also be released on Nintendo Switch. The game features an anime-style open-world environment and an action-based combat system with elemental magic and character switching. The game is free to play and monetized through gacha gameplay mechanics where players can get new characters and weapons. The base game is regularly expanded through patches, using the game-as-a-service model.

Genshin Impact takes place in the fantasy world of Teyvat, home to seven different nations, each tied to a different element and ruled by a different god. The story follows the traveler who traveled through countless worlds with his twin siblings before being separated in Teyvat. The Traveler travels with her companion Paimon in search of the lost sibling and becomes embroiled in the affairs of Teyvat’s nations.

Development on Genshin Impact began in 2017. The game received generally positive reviews, with critics praising the game’s combat mechanics and open-world immersion, but criticizing its simplified endgame and monetization model. It grossed more than $3 billion in its first year of release, the highest grossing revenue ever for a video game, and has grossed more than $4 billion as of March 2022.

playing style

The player can freely explore an open world map. Here, Aether, the male traveler, is seen gliding, but the player can switch to other party members.

Genshin Impact is an open-world action role-playing game that allows the player to control one of four interchangeable characters in a party.[2] Characters can be quickly switched between characters during combat, allowing the player to use several different combinations of abilities and attacks.[3] Character strengths can be improved in a number of ways, such as: B. by increasing a character’s level and improving artifacts and weapons that the character equips.[4] In addition to exploration, the player can try different challenges for rewards. Scattered across Teyvat are bosses and challenges that reward highly valuable resources, such as Stormterror and the Electro Hypostasis, but their assertion consumes a currency called resin that slowly regenerates over time.[5] Completing these challenges grants the player progress toward increasing their adventure rank, which in turn unlocks new quests and challenges, and increases world level.[6] The world level is a measure of how strong the enemies within the world are and how rare the rewards are for defeating them.[7]

The player can control their character and perform actions such as running, climbing, swimming and gliding, limited by stamina.[8][3] Some characters possess abilities that can change the environment, such as B. Freezing water to create an ice path that can help the player traverse terrain.[3] There are many teleportation nodes around the world that players can teleport to as a form of fast travel. Among them are landmarks known as Statues of the Seven, which can heal and revive characters and provide benefits such as: B. increasing the stamina of the players. Items like food and ore can be obtained from the open world, while enemies and treasure chests drop other types of resources that can be used to improve a character’s strength. Players can obtain food by hunting animals, gathering fruits and vegetables, or purchasing it from a shop. In addition, there are special battle instances called domains, which also reward materials that increase character and weapon power.[10] Ingredients that can be cooked into meals that regenerate characters’ health or improve various stats.[11] Players can also obtain ore, which can be refined and then used to craft weapons or improve their strength.[12][13]

An elemental reaction between the two elements, Pyro and Electro, results in “Overloaded”, which creates an explosion.

Each character has two unique combat skills: an elemental skill and an elemental explosion. The elemental ability can be used at any time except on cooldown immediately after use.[14] In contrast, the Elemental Burst has an energy cost that requires the user to accumulate enough elemental energy by defeating enemies or inflicting elemental status effects.[15] Characters control one of seven natural elements: Cryo, Dendro,[c] Pyro, Hydro, Anemo, Electro, and Geo; corresponding respectively to Ice, Plants, Fire, Water, Wind, Electricity, and Rock.[16] These elements can interact in different ways; For example, if a Hydro attack hits a target, the enemy will be inflicted with the Wet status effect, and if hit by a Cryo attack, it will inflict Cryo.[16] These two status effects combine to create the Frozen status effect, which temporarily prevents the target from performing any actions or until the player deals enough physical damage to the enemy.[16] Switching between characters during combat and casting these abilities allow these elemental interactions to take place.[17] Certain elemental abilities may be required to solve puzzles in the overworld.[3]

A multiplayer mode is available in the form of co-op. Up to 4 players can play together in the overworld and join domains.[18] Player matching can be done either by requesting to connect to another player.[18] If the player wants to vacate a domain with other players, they are automatically matched with others who want to tackle the same goal.[19] The game features cross-platform play, allowing players to play together on any platform.[20]

By completing quests to advance the story, the player can initially unlock four additional playable characters,[21] and additional characters can be obtained through gacha mechanics and in-game events.[22][23][24] Several premium in-game currencies, obtainable through in-app purchases and playing the game, can be used to obtain characters and weapons through the gacha system.[25] A pity system guarantees that the player will receive rare items after a set number of draws.[26]

story

Attitude

Set in the world of Teyvat, Genshin Impact consists of the seven major nations of Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine, Natlan and Snezhnaya; each nation is ruled by a different god.[27] The mysterious floating island of Celestia is said to be the home of gods and mortals who have risen to divinity through great exploits.[28] Beneath the earth lie the ruins of the nation of Khaenri’ah, destroyed by gods 500 years before the events of the game.[29][30] Unlike the seven great nations, Khaenri’ah was not ruled by a god. The player character, the Traveler (male or female, depending on the player’s choice), is separated from his twin and trapped in Teyvat. They are accompanied by a companion, Paimon, as they journey through Teyvat in search of their lost sibling. Although players can choose the name they wish to be addressed by, the Traveler’s Sibling refers to the Traveler as either Aether or Lumine if the Traveler is male or female.

Each nation is associated with and worships one of the Seven, a group of gods known as the “Archon” who preside over each of the seven nations. Each member of The Seven is associated with one of the game’s elements and is also reflected in their nation’s aspect. Barbatos, Rex Lapis, Raiden Shogun, and Tsaritsa are the Archons of Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, and Snezhnaya, respectively.[31] However, the god who is the archon can change over time as archons die.[32] Certain individuals chosen by the Archons are granted a vision – magical gems that bestow upon their bearers the ability to command an element and the potential to ascend to godhood and dwell in Celestia.[33][34]

Mondstadt, the city of liberty, worships the Anemo Archon Barbatos and is situated on an island in the middle of a lake.[35] The city is protected by the Knights of Favonius, who are tasked with protecting Mondstadt and its citizens.[36] In the southwest, Liyue worships the Geo Archon Rex Lapis (aka Morax) and is the largest market port in Teyvat. The port city is ruled by the Liyue Qixing, a group of business leaders and ancient guardians known as the Adepti, a class of magical beings that includes Rex Lapis himself. Across the sea to the southeast lies the isolated island nation of Inazuma, overseen by the authoritarian regime of the Raiden Shogun (aka Baal) and three government agencies that collectively form the Tri-Commission:[39] the Tenryou Commission, Kanjou Commission and Yashiro Commission; oversight of military and executive affairs,[40] finance and foreign affairs[41] or ceremonial affairs[42].

Snezhnaya, ruled by the cryo-archon known as Tsaritsa, dispatches diplomats named Fatui who maintain a friendly demeanor while secretly employing more devious methods.[43] The Fatui are also led by the Eleven Fatui Harbingers, individuals bestowed exceptional powers and executive powers by the Tsaritsa.[44] Besides the Fatui, another major antagonistic faction in the game is the Abyss Order, a legion of monsters that declare themselves enemies of all humanity and the nations of Teyvat. They are led by the “Prince” or the “Princess”, the lost twin of the Traveler.[45][46][47]

plot

A pair of twins traveling through different worlds arrive in Teyvat but attempt to leave after finding the nation of Khaenri’ah under a catastrophic siege. However, they are separated by a god who takes one twin and seals the other. Referred to as the “Traveller”, the sealed twin awakens five hundred years later and meets Paimon, and the two embark on a journey to find the missing twin.

The duo first arrive in the city of Mondstadt, which has been attacked by a dragon named Stormterror. They meet up with Venti, a local bard who wants to calm Stormterror, who is actually Dvalin, one of Mondstadt’s ancient protectors. Venti retrieves a stolen sacred lyre from the Fatui and attempts to calm Dvalin with the lyre, but the dragon is manipulated by the Abyss Order into attacking him. The encounter also reveals that Venti is the Anemo-Archon Barbatos, and they pursue Dvalin, freeing him from the influence of the Abyss Order. After resolving the crisis, Venti is ambushed by Fatui Harbinger La Signora, who steals his Gnosis, the symbol of an Archon’s power.

Venti advises the Traveler to travel to Liyue next to meet Rex Lapis, the Geo-Archon, at a ceremony. However, at the ceremony, Rex Lapis is apparently killed and his body hidden. To avoid suspicion, the traveler gets help from undertaker Zhongli and Fatui Harbinger Childe; The latter manipulates the traveler to sow a conflict between the Qixing, the organization of trading leaders who manage Liyue Port, and the Adepti, ancient guardians who defend Liyue. Childe discovers the location of Rex Lapis’ body, but is unable to find the Gnosis, believing that Rex Lapis is still alive. To lure out the Archon, Childe resurrects an ancient god, but the combined forces of the Traveller, the Qixing, and the Adepti defeat him, and the groups agree to lead Liyue into a new age. Afterwards, the traveler discovers that Zhongli is Rex Lapis, who gives his gnosis to Signora as part of a discreet contract with the Tsaritsa, the cryo-archon and leader of the Fatui. Zhongli states that he faked his death so that he could step down from his role as archon, and that their defense of Liyue proved they did not need his protection.[48]

The Traveler then returns to Mondstadt and meets a man named Dainsleif who is after the Abyss Order. Together, they investigate her plan to create an artificial god to overthrow Celestia, but when they try to thwart it, they are confronted by the Traveler’s sibling. They reveal themselves to be the leaders of the Abyss Order, made up of the people of Khaenri’ah cursed to become monsters, and reveal that Dainsleif was a guard of Khaenri’ah cursed to, through the world to wander.[49] Dainsleif chases after her sibling, but the Traveler is unable to follow.

In search of a path to Inazuma, the traveler learns about the Vision Hunt Decree, which is being enforced to confiscate the visions of the people of Inazuma and start a civil war. When the Traveler arrives in the nation, he agrees to help the Resistance Army abolish it. They learn that the Fatui manipulated the Shogun into signing it and in response they raid a Fatui facility, but are defeated by Fatui Harbinger Scaramouche. They are rescued by the Shrine Maiden Yae Miko, who tells them that the “Raiden Shogun” is actually a puppet created by Egg to rule Inazuma while she retreats into her mind. The Traveler confronts Signora in the Shogun’s palace and challenges her to a duel and emerges victorious. Signora is executed by the Raiden Shogun, and the Traveler defeats Miko Ei with the help of Yae, who reverses the decree and ends the war. Miko reveals that Ei’s Gnosis was entrusted to her and that she left it to Scaramouche to spare the Traveler.[53]

The Traveler reunites with Dainsleif, who couldn’t find his twin. Seeing a vision of their siblings trying to restore Khaenri’ah, they are torn between helping their siblings and defeating the Abyss Order. Dainsleif explains that the traveler must choose before departure.

development

Genshin Impact began development back in late January 2017 with an initial team of 120 employees, which grew to 400 by the end of the year and reached 700 by February 2021.[54][55] miHoYo revealed the game at E3 2019 in June 2019.[56][57] The game was developed with the Unity engine.[58] The game had a development and marketing budget of around $100 million, making it one of the most expensive video games in development.[59] Closed beta testing was held between the announcement and launch, allowing invited players to explore and interact with the open world.[60][61] The game includes voice-overs in four languages and 13 different languages for text.[62][63][64][d]

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is highly regarded by the development team and cited as one of the main inspirations for Genshin Impact.[65] The development aimed to make the game different and more fun than other MMORPGs in terms of its quest and combat systems, as well as its random events and exploration mode. The game was developed cross-platform as the development of the game for PC and console allowed the developers to increase the graphical fidelity for the game e.g. B. rendering realistic shadows. The overall artistic vision of the game is intended to combine the anime art style with other key elements from real-life cultures.[67] For example, Liyue was first conceived as a reinterpretation of Chinese culture from a fantasy perspective and combined with reference material from Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and Tianmen Mountain to create the region.[67]

music

Yu-Peng Chen of HOYO-MiX composed the game’s original score, which has been performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. The approach to creating the soundtrack is to immerse players in the game and provide emotional and beautiful melodies.[71] Based on a foundation of Western music, the score has also added regional and cultural influences depending on the region.[72] For example, at Mondstadt, Chen used woodwind instruments to reflect Mondstadt’s association with wind and freedom.[71] In contrast, the combat themes use polyphony and other compositional techniques, as well as imitating orchestrion elements of composers such as Beethoven. Several soundtrack albums featuring music about characters and regions of the game have been released regularly.[73][74][75][76][77] For his work on the soundtrack, Chen was recognized as an Outstanding Artist – Newcomer/Breakthrough at the 2020 Annual Game Music Awards.[71] In an interview published in April 2021, Chen expressed interest in releasing the soundtracks on CD and holding concerts in the future.[71] The first concert took place virtually on October 3, 2021, entitled “Melodies of an Endless Journey” and consisted of several bands and an orchestra performing various soundtracks from the game.[78][79][80][81] On February 4, 2022, a second virtual concert titled “Reflections of Spring” was held, in which the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra performed soundtracks from the Liyue region.[82][83]

publication

The September 28 global release was announced on August 17 for PC and mobile platforms, and on August 28 it was announced that the PlayStation 4 version would be released on the same date. The game was made available on PlayStation 5 through backwards compatibility on November 11.[86][1] On April 28, 2021, the PlayStation 5 version of the game was released with improved graphics, improved load times and DualSense controller support.[87][88][89] The game will be released on Nintendo Switch, although no release window has been announced. In May 2022, the development team confirmed that the Nintendo Switch version is still under development.[91]

Before its release, the game had over 10 million registrations, more than half of them outside of China.[92][93] According to some, the game was the largest international release of a Chinese video game.[59][94] Ahead of the release, the game won the Tokyo Game Show Media Awards 2020 public poll, taking first place among 14 other games.[95]

Shortly after the game’s launch, miHoYo announced a schedule for content updates over the following months.[96] These content updates are scheduled to be implemented into the game every six weeks.[96] Additional patches in the future will add more events and new areas of Teyvat.[97][1][98] As a long-term project, much of the game has yet to be completed. At release, only two of the game’s seven main regions were released, and miHoYo anticipates that it will take several years for the game’s story to be completed.[99] In a February 2021 presentation, miHoYo President Cai Haoyu estimated that ongoing development of the game would cost $200 million per year.[55] Prior to the game’s release, miHoYo released a manga detailing the background of its characters and the fictional world of Teyvat, and other future plans include a series of comics, toys, and a possible movie.

controversies

When the game was first unveiled at the ChinaJoy convention in 2019, it was initially met with criticism that claimed the game had similarities to Breath of the Wild.[102] Zelda fans at the convention made explicit gestures towards the Sony booth, with one person destroying their PlayStation 4 console in protest.

Shortly after release, players discovered that the game’s kernel-based anti-cheat system would remain active after the game was closed or uninstalled,[105] raising concerns that the game had spyware installed.[106] Some Japanese players using iOS devices also observed that the game read the content of the players’ clipboards upon launch.[107] miHoYo announced that both issues were the result of coding errors and have been addressed and fixed.[108]

On October 6, 2020, journalist and Twitch streamer Kazuma Hashimoto posted a video on the social media site Twitter showing how controversial Chinese political terms like “Hong Kong” and “Taiwan” are censored in in-game chat.[ 109] Since the game’s developer, miHoYo, is based in China, they are subject to China’s censorship policy, which includes compliance with a relatively large list of banned words that cannot be used in-game or via chat.[109] Other terms unrelated to Chinese politics are also banned, such as “Putin,” “Hitler,” and “Stalin.”[110] Outside of the purely political choice of words, harmless terms such as “enemies” and “words” were also censored.[111]

In November 2020, the game faced controversy during the release of one character, Zhongli, as its gameplay and kit were considered so bad that it was considered an insult to Chinese gamers. miHoYo initially responded to the controversy surrounding the character, saying that he was working as intended and shouldn’t be a concern.[112] Later, miHoYo apologized and promised to improve the character’s equipment through beta testing for version 1.3.

In March 2021, fast-food company KFC announced a collaborative event in China where customers who showed up and shouted the phrase “Meet in another world, enjoy delicious food!” offered exclusive pins and in-game items . with the employees of the restaurant.[114] As a result, KFC stores in Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou were overrun with fans. Despite the best efforts by the authorities to comply with COVID-19 regulations, the action had to be stopped.[115]

In April 2021, some called for the game to be boycotted over allegations of bigotry in game content.[116][117] Some other users pointed out that the only playable dark-skinned characters in the game were described as “exotic” or “scary”.[117] Criticism was also directed at one of the game’s adult characters expressing love for another character who appears to be a child, although this may have been an oversight given that the character in question was found to have used an adult model in earlier stages of development . 116][117]

The game’s first anniversary celebrations in September 2021 have drawn criticism for the company’s handling of the event. Fans of the game criticized the anniversary rewards compared to rewards for community events that favored content creators.[118][119] miHoYo did not post any comment on the rewards, and the game was bombarded with reviews from fans, lowering its overall Google Play Store score to 1.9 from an initial 4.5.[120] miHoYo’s other games, Honkai Impact 3rd and Tears of Themis, received the same rating bomb from fans amid the controversy. The company officially apologized to players in response to the review bombing and responded by offering the paid bundle package to be sold at the upcoming live concert as a free 4-day login gift.[123 ] The company stated, “We have paid close attention to various pieces of feedback related to Genshin Impact’s first anniversary. support all the time. The opinions and feedback from players and fans are really valuable to us and we wish all fans to continue the adventure and make more precious memories in Teyvat.”[124]

security concerns

The game was criticized for initially lacking security features that are ubiquitous on other sites, such as: B. Two-factor authentication. On October 19, 2020, a vulnerable security hole was discovered exposing the phone number associated with a player’s account during password recovery attempt on the miHoYo website, however the issue was not resolved until November 9, 2020.[125] miHoYo has issued notices following security breaches advising players to be careful about sharing account information and to tie their account to their email address and phone number.[126][127] In May 2021, two-factor authentication was added when the player logs in on a new device.[128][129]

Similar to other online games, the game uses an anti-cheat system implemented by a kernel driver. The driver is used to prevent other programs from doing code injection, memory inspection, and other process manipulations. Originally, the anti-cheat driver stayed loaded after the game exited. This issue was fixed shortly after the game was released and will now unload when the game is exited.[130][106]

reception

Genshin Impact received “generally positive reviews” according to review aggregator Metacritic.[132][133] Teyvat’s open world was praised; IGN’s Travis Northup described Teyvat as “a world bursting at the seams with possibility”, and Hardcore Gamer’s Jordan Helm described it as “one big environmental puzzle”. Liyue in particular was singled out by Kotaku’s Sisi Jiang as “one of the most exciting regions I’ve visited in a video game in years,” before further discussing how the region “presents an idealized representation of how Chinese social relations exist in localized pockets”. [139] Game Informer characterized the game as an incredible experience, noting that “[t]he gameplay loop of collecting, upgrading, and customizing is engaging and compelling.” The gameplay execution impressed Pocket Gamer, and Destructoid’s Chris Carter called the combat system “one of the most interesting things” about the game. NPR noted that the game had a wealth of content despite being free to play, and Forbes praised the game as one that feels cohesive and complete. Gene Park of the Washington Post praised the game as revolutionary for the genre and made players “imagine a mobile game world with titles whose Qu ality corresponds to the first-class experiences of the branch”. Polygon also praised the game for setting itself apart from its peers and heralding its arrival as mobile gaming becomes more mainstream, appealing to “an audience outside of the typical mobile gaming demographic” and “new gamers without the hardware to play more conventional and resource-heavy games.” to play RPGs”.[143]

Most of the criticisms of Genshin Impact stem from the game’s endgame aspects, with Kotaku noting that while the game offers a solid experience, it also has “some of the typical bullshit that comes with a zero-dollar price tag”.[144] GameSpot echoed this criticism, noting that the game is “a bit handicapped by the limitations imposed by its free-to-play model”.[8] Paul Tassi of Forbes was critical of the resin system, noting that to get past a certain point you have to spend “an absurd amount of money to bypass the last few time slots [sic] of the game”. PC Gamer said that playing the endgame “becomes a slog” and that the resin system “feels so unnecessary”. The Washington Post warned gamers about how predatory the monetization is, adding that from an aesthetic point of view, such a well-designed game may draw some to play with the game’s gacha system.[24]

awards

Apple recognized Genshin Impact as iPhone Game of the Year in the App Store Best of 2020 and 2021 Apple Design Awards for Visuals and Graphics.[148][149] The game also won Google Play’s “Best Game of 2020” and was nominated for a “Users’ Choice Game” in the “Best of 2020” awards.[150][151] The game won Game of the Year at the 2020 TapTap Game Awards.[152] The game was also nominated for Best RPG and Best Mobile Game at The Game Awards 2020[153] and Ultimate Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards[154]. The game was nominated for Best Continuing Game and won Best Mobile Game at The Game Awards 2021.[155]

Commercial Achievement

On mobile platforms, Genshin Impact recorded 23 million downloads and grossed approximately $60 million within a week of its release.[143][94] Within two weeks, that number rose to over $100 million, recouping the development and marketing budget.[156] Its strong performance continued into October 2020 as the game was the highest grossing game worldwide that month.[157] The largest revenue streams came from China, Japan, South Korea and the United States, with 69 percent of mobile revenue generated outside of China specifically during this period.[158][159] In the United States, its release was the largest mobile role-playing game launch in history.[159]

On mobile platforms, Genshin Impact had grossed over $393 million within two months of release and over $1 billion by the end of March 2021, the third-highest grossing mobile game in that period after Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile, which it makes one of the highest-grossing mobile games of all time and the fastest game to reach this milestone on Google Play and the App Store.[160][161] As of October 2021, the game had grossed $2 billion.[162][163] It became the third highest-grossing mobile game in the world in 2021,[164] grossing $1.9 billion that year.[165] As of December 2021, the game had grossed $3 billion on iOS and Android devices worldwide. The game’s largest mobile market is China with 30% of revenue, followed by Japan with 23% and the United States with 20% of revenue.[166]

Across all platforms (including mobile, console, and computer platforms), the game is estimated to have grossed nearly $3.7 billion in its first year through September 2021, the highest grossing revenue ever for a video game. [169] The mobile version grossed an additional $567 million between January and March 2022,[170] totaling more than $4.267 billion as of March 2022.

Genshin Impact has taken the world by storm and is quite possibly the biggest game from a Chinese studio in a long time. Developer miHoYo has over 20 million pre-registered players. According to mobile analytics company App Annie, the mobile game saw 17 million downloads in the first four days of its release. That doesn’t include installations on PC and PlayStation 4, ports that have drawn global market attention to a historically purely mobile genre.

Genshin Impact is a high-budget mobile game in the gacha genre, which means it’s free to play and players essentially have to gamble for a chance to win other in-game bonuses. Genshin Impact focuses on character collection.

After playing non-stop for the past week, I’ve found that you need to approach this game very differently than other loot-grind games like the recently released Marvel’s Avengers.

Here’s a beginner’s guide to help you navigate the confusing gacha system, manage your money, and best manage your time so you can be as powerful as possible in the game’s early hours.

Do not play this game if you are prone to shopping

I know I was praising the game last week and also called the drop rates for the gambling portion of the game “outrageous”. But I also want to emphasize this point: This game is pure gambling, with no monetary reward at the end of each roll. If you have a gaming or spending addiction, I advise you to stay away from this title, even if it’s free. The success rates for a good five-star character or weapon are horrifically low (less than 1 percent), and it’s designed to be unlucky and very expensive. And even if you have a good pull, it’s either not what you want, or a duplicate of something you already have that has value but for real money.

I know it may seem harsh to start a tips guide with, but it’s important to your livelihood. For more tips on navigating this system, see the article below.

Do not keep any leveling materials for your character. use them

The level system of this game is a bit strange. In other RPG adventures, defeating mobs of enemies usually makes you stronger, but the experience gain in Genshin is so small it would take you ages.

The various notes and books you receive as rewards in chests and quests are meant to be used fairly quickly. Choose a character or team you like and fill them up with experience. You should have a fleet of properly leveled characters to explore the world with. If it feels weird that you’re already level 20 after just an hour into the game, don’t be. You are exactly where you need to be to explore the first region.

Artifacts determine your build

Properly leveled characters are just the bare minimum for leisurely exploring the world. If you find enemies taking a few hits too many to defeat, it’s probably because you’re not caring about your artifacts. Having a good set of artifacts means the difference between defeating enemies in 10 hits or two.

advertisement

Artifacts are essentially accessories or pieces of armor that enhance a character’s stats. You can’t roll for these, you can only find them by playing the game, doing dungeons, opening chests, and completing quests. And they give you the biggest boosts to damage.

My advice: choose a main character and increase his attack rating. Feather Attachment is the primary attack buff, so either focus on finding a four-star feather, or “upgrade” a three-star feather with other, weaker artifacts. Each level on an artifact increases its value significantly. I tested this on a new PlayStation 4 account after learning what I learned on my PC account. My main PS4 character is already stronger than my PC character, even though the PC adventure is much more advanced.

Artifacts are hard to come by and can’t be bought in stores or with real money, so you’ll have to decide whether to either spread resource love among other characters or focus on building one first in the wee hours of the morning. But if you want to hit harder or deal more damage to your elementals, you’ll need to pay attention to who is wielding the artifacts and level them up regularly. Once you take care of your artifacts, it will be like controlling a whole new (and much more powerful) team.

Check your elemental resonances for your team

I started the game thinking I needed a diverse lineup on my team, one for each element. But that’s not necessarily the ideal way to play in every situation.

advertisement

Each character has elemental powers except for the main character who can switch between Wind and Geo for now. But having different elements on your team can produce different outcomes. For example, having two wind characters like the protagonist and Venti will give you a big boost in stamina, making it much easier to explore the world. And if you have two fire elemental characters, your attack damage increases by 25 percent.

Make sure to check the character menu to see what bonuses you get for your team makeups.

Get these two four-star artifacts

Talking to every character in the game is a good general tip for any RPG, and it applies to Genshin Impact. At a certain point in the game, you will be asked to complete a quest in Monstadt Cathedral, the starting region. Go there and find a nun named Victoria.

advertisement

Anytime a dialogue option appears with a crate or treasure chest icon, you’ll get a reward for selecting it. Victoria gives you a four-star artifact worth investing in for the long term. It also earns you an achievement.

This was easy and the first artifact to grab. The closest is in Dadaupa Gorge. There is a quest that involves eliminating three enemy camps and lighting three torches with Fire, Ice, and Lightning powers (all of which you will have). Once that’s done, your reward is a four-star feather that gives you a huge attack boost. If you’re having trouble finding or completing the quest, here’s a good video guide.

Recommendations for YouTube channels

Thank you for reading this article and supporting newspaper journalism, but there are also a number of YouTube creators who have been diligent and thorough in covering this game and I would like to thank two of them for not only helping my game , but also explained things clearly and thoroughly so as not to waste the viewer’s time.

How to spend real money wisely

Are you sure you want to play this game? Are you sure you’ve told yourself that you’re only going to spend a little money, or are you okay with engaging with the gambling system with the small amount of money the game deals out to you? Then here are a few ways to get the most out of the game by spending no more than $5.

Buy the Blessings of the Welkin Moon Pass: For $5, you’ll receive a daily allocation of currency to spend on a “wish,” the game’s lingo on gambles, and reels in for a new character or a five-star -Weapon. It’s not a lot, but it will add up by the end of the month. It’s the only way to spend money in the game that you don’t want to completely screw you up literally 99 percent of the time. And that said…

Don’t save your rolls, just spend them when you get them: the game offers a guaranteed good character or weapon if you decide to roll 10 times at once. However, that doesn’t mean you don’t have the same odds when making single rolls. You don’t have to blow everything up once it’s saved. You can ease the itch to gamble by throwing a single wish down the fountain without worrying your odds will be worse than if you spend 10 wishes.

If you want characters, roll the event banner: The “default” banner (showing characters Jean and Diluc) increases your chances of getting better characters while also offering a high chance of getting a weapon. If that’s not your focus, use your wishes on the special event banner. For now, it’s with the wind bard Venti, whose chances of getting this banner are only slightly better. But Venti’s higher odds don’t displace the chance of getting other five or four star characters, not as much as weapons for the standard banner. Don’t spend your wishes on the default banner unless you fill out your armory on swords and spears.

How is Genshin impact successful?

Much of Genshin Impact’s success can be attributed to their regular updates for players. These include “introducing new gameplay features, areas to explore, and characters to obtain, resulting in large spikes in revenue on average every three weeks” for the game.

Genshin Impact by miHoYo surprised the world in 2020 with its beautiful world and gameplay inspired by Breath of the Wild. It’s a game that pulls you in and won’t let go. It’s also free to play, but it comes with a lot of gacha elements that players can spend money on. However, these are not necessary to enjoy the game.

Since its release, Genshin Impact’s popularity hasn’t waned. It doesn’t seem like it’s slowing down much if a report from the sensor tower is any indicator. The game has an excellent roster of characters to collect, which we’ve ranked. Each feels unique and brings something new to the table as you travel the world, explore and fight bosses. The game’s huge roster complements the gacha component of the game.

Sensor Tower’s report describes the resounding success of Genshin Impact. As of September 2020, the game has “surpassed $3 billion in lifetime player spending on the App Store and Google Play worldwide.” After its release, it took just 171 days for the game to reach its first $1 billion in revenue on mobile devices. As of now, the game will likely surpass the $4 billion mark sometime this year.

Much of Genshin Impact’s success is due to the regular updates available to players. This includes “the introduction of new gameplay features, areas to explore, and characters to obtain, resulting in large sales spikes on average every three weeks” for the game.

Genshin Impact has continued its upward trend and is still one of the most lucrative mobile games in the world. Its success averages $1 billion every six months. The report describes that Genshin players remain “very engaged,” with the game’s average active numbers growing 44 percent in the first quarter of 2022.

Globally, the game has been the third-biggest revenue since its launch. It is behind Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile. However, for the first quarter of 2022, it currently ranks first. China, where miHoYo is based, remains the country with the most revenue for the game.

If you consider yourself a fan of the game, you should definitely check out our master list of all weapons in Genshin Impact. And yes, we mean all. If that’s not enough, we’ve also ranked all the bosses in the game from worst to best.

Genshin Impact is currently available on PlayStation 4 and 5, PC and mobile.

Will Genshin last 10 years?

Genshin Impact has been one of the biggest hits of the past year and now he expects it to last about ten years instead of five. They have accumulated a total of 40 million players at the end of 2020.

Genshin Impact was one of the biggest hits of the past year and now he expects it to last around ten years instead of five. They have accumulated a total of 40 million players by the end of 2020.

The game has seen constant content growth over the months and remains one of the most popular games out there. A major content update for the game is released approximately every six weeks, with new characters, missions, stories, and more. There were plans that this should only last five years, but now it seems they will last ten years.

Genshin Impact will be relevant by 2030

Update 1.4 was the last update released for Genshin Impact and added the iteration of Ventis Banner and Rosaria’s character along with the Herald of the Abyss quest. The character encounter missions were a hit for those who wanted to get to know the characters better.

At this point, miHoYo had already announced that a major update would be released every six weeks and that they had a 5 year life plan for the game. But now it’s turned into a 12-year plan due to the profits the developers made from the game. It all stems from a leak from the Discord Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, a pretty credible source in the Genshin Impact leak community. This joins other leaks that MiHoyo is intentionally delaying certain content in order to prolong play and thus optimize wins.

All of this suggests that the plan is to keep Genshin Impact alive beyond 2030, as many people return every time there is a new update. And this at the expense of updates with less content than initially intended and the repetition of banners of very popular characters such as Ventis, one that they put at the beginning of Genshin Impact’s life. They could also repeat events like stars that don’t return.

miHoYo released Genshin Impact on Epic Games in June this year, and due to recent developments, a change has appeared on the store page.

Genshin Impact’s publisher has now switched to Cognosphere on the Epic Games Store. The game is still a miHoYo product, but the transfer of Cognosphere could have some impact on the further development of Genshin Impact.

The Genshin Impact publisher has been reassigned to Cognosphere on the Epic Games Store

In a recent HoYoLAB article, Genshin Impact announced that their publisher has changed to Cognosphere PTE on the Epic Games Store. GMBH. The broadcast is already visible at Epic Games, as Cognosphere will be responsible for Genshin Impact’s publishing duties for the foreseeable future.

Genshin Impact has now followed several other miHoYo games in the transition to Cognosphere. A few days ago there was a change of publisher for other miHoYo titles, including Tears of Themis.

The publisher switch for Tears of Themis and other titles has caught the attention of much of miHoYo’s player base. For clarification: miHoYo will still be the developer of these games. Cognosphere, a Singapore-based company, simply took over the publishing.

Genshin Impact has promised to maintain quality work in their publishing department, though they haven’t revealed the reason for the change yet. Of course, fans are curious. At the moment there seems to be only one popular rumor going around about the transition to the Cognosphere, and it involves censorship.

Genshin Impact fans are speculating about the publisher change

As the Reddit post above shows, Cognosphere is likely something of a subsidiary of miHoYo. Essentially, it appears that miHoYo has formed a new company to publish Genshin Impact. It is rumored that the reason for these developments is to circumvent state regulations on gambling.

Bee @kindabeeish ok so apparently Mihoyo is announcing the new publishers of Genshin Impact to ostensibly get away from Chinese government regulations; to be clear cognosphere is owned by mihoyo but located in singapore (?) ok so apparently mihoyo is making cognosphere the new publishers of genshin impact to supposedly get away from chinese government regulations; to be clear, cognosphere is owned by mihoyo but located in singapore(?)

Moving Mio @heyyzou @tsumtsukioka to the cognosphere is actually the better move for us now that they can bypass China’s game censorship! since china does not approve of feminine male characters like genshin’s venti. China also restricts big rewards to attract fewer players as China doesn’t want teenagers to gamble.

China has recently introduced stricter video gaming policies that bar minors from playing online games on school days. Minors are only allowed to play for one hour per day on weekends and bank holiday nights.

Government regulations have also opposed same-sex relationships and feminine-styled male characters like Xingqiu and Venti in video games. If the rumors are true, the transition to the cognosphere arrived in response to this censorship.

Uei @Ueiyester

So far it sounds like a win. Tales of Themis has also already migrated to Cognosphere in Singapore. @syiramigs If anything, it means they are no longer hampered by Chinese restrictions on story/character design/relationships between characters. With the recent change, Genshin Impact could take a step away from Chinese censorship. Other miHoYo games may be ported to Cognosphere for the same reasons, but players will have to wait and see for these changes.

Although the game was first publicly available on May 17, 2009, and the full release occurred on November 18, 2011, the game first accepted pre-orders on June 13, 2009, so it started accumulating sales at that time.

Why is Genshin Impact so addicting?

A rather obvious reason for the game’s addictive nature is how easy the game is to access. The fact that Genshin Impact is free to play, rated 12 meaning that players below this age can play with consent from a guardian and available on all major gaming platforms makes it so accessible worldwide.

7 minutes in heaven with your fav genshin characters – head_empty78 – 原神

To combat our addiction to Genshin Impact, it’s important to understand what makes the game so addictive. Mostly addictive video game features follow the same principle only used by the developers in a more unique way. In this case we will identify the most addictive features so that you can recognize them in this game and in gaming in general.

escapism

A common addictive trait of RPGs in particular is their ability to immerse the player in a fantasy world. Those who are addicted to video games often use video games to escape negative problems they might be dealing with in the real world. Be it financial problems, problems at work, anxiety or relationships etc. Gaming can often serve to distract our minds from the real world.

In the vast land that Genshin Impact has to explore and characters to play with, it’s easy to see how addictive players can become. Often within the game, a small clue can lead to a chain reaction of multi-level events like puzzles and bosses that take the player on a much longer journey than intended.

loot boxes

Purchasing loot crates in Genshin Impact is arguably the most addictive part of the game, and many people have complained about the ethics of using them. Loot boxes in Genshin Impact use what is known as the gacha system, which takes its name from toy vending machines in Japan. The system essentially follows free-to-play gameplay, with in-game upgrades and improvements left to chance in the form of loot boxes called “Wishes” and mostly purchased with real money.

Although this system started in Japan, it spread across Eastern gaming culture to popular gaming hotspots like South Korea and China. Eventually it makes its way onto the western gaming scene that many of us are familiar with. Titles like CSGO follow the same gacha system and are vetted in exactly the same way; Relation of the system to gambling. While the system isn’t technically gambling, buying crates that randomize your in-game items bears an uncanny resemblance to it.

How does this affect addiction? As players progress in the game, more experience (XP) is required to level up, which means you’ll need some equipment upgrades if you want to spend less time grinding. Namely better weapons and characters to kill bosses and enemies faster. However, the most efficient way to acquire these is of course by purchasing loot boxes. Grinding other additional in-game currencies to buy “Wishes” is essentially counter-intuitive to the quality of life changes they seek, as players want to make the grind easier and progress.

This system only leads to people investing more time in the game to enjoy their newly purchased gear and the odd character to save up for more loot boxes. However, parting with money for the game also plays a role in the Sunken Cost Fallacy, a cognitive bias that drives us to play video games.

When we invest resources in something, we tend to place greater value on it. Those resources in the case of Genshin Impact are typically time and money. When players invest hundreds of dollars in the game for the best loot, it subconsciously strengthens their bond with the game. Giving up the game from this point becomes even more difficult as the player’s brain tells them that their time and money would have been wasted.

Typically, this triggers an emotional response from the player and leads to less-rational decisions, such as: B. investing more time and money into the game to maintain and increase its value. From an outside perspective, we understand this is wrong, but for the addicted gamer, this can be a powerful connection.

Popular Twitch streamer Daphne “39daph” railed and tweeted about it, explaining that for someone who spent a few hundred bucks in MMOs as a teenager, looking back at the sunk costs feels bad, it’s the same with Genshin influence.

Low barrier to entry

A fairly obvious reason for the game’s addictive nature is how easily accessible the game is. The fact that Genshin Impact is free to play, rated 12 meaning players under that age can play with parental consent and available on all major gaming platforms makes it so accessible worldwide.

Another thing to note is that the game is available on mobile, which adds another layer to the addiction. Addiction to mobile games can be extremely debilitating as almost everyone has a smartphone these days and it is almost always with us. Mobile gaming addiction often massively impacts productivity, social life and other aspects of their ability to function based solely on how much time they spend gaming on the phone and neglecting important responsibilities.

Measurable growth

By nature, people love to feel accomplished and to see progress. This ingrained desire to succeed is reflected in our progress as a society and in how we honor and commend those who have overcome difficult tasks. Most of the time gamers get addicted to video games because they get a sense of accomplishment when they do well.

Gaming constantly bombards players with in-game rewards for completing challenges that ultimately never end. This cycle of challenge and reward leaves the player wanting more, which often discourages them from achieving things outside of the game. Why would anyone study for months to do well on an exam when an hour of sharpening could get them the new sword they’ve always wanted.

Because of this, there have been many connections to video games and depression. Gaming can often quell negative emotions and improve feelings of hopelessness by giving someone instant gratification and achievement. However, someone who is addicted to video games can only make their addiction worse by neglecting other responsibilities and opportunities in life for gaming. Sometimes, realizing that gaming is the only thing they have invested time in leads to playing more video games to eliminate feelings of hopelessness and sadness.

Additionally, playing Genshin Impact requires skill and a learning curve that needs to be worked on. Players must master combat mechanics, build and learn to combine characters to optimize their damage in battle against different enemies. Giving players something to work towards in order to master a skill contributes to that sense of measurable growth and gain and drives the individual to play more.

[000] the game

2nd person pov everyone at the party was bored, the power had gone out almost an hour ago. you knew most of the people in the room while others were a complete blank page in your memory. If you were to describe what was going on, you would probably divide those present into two groups: the introverts and the extroverts. The introverts consisted of Zhongli reading a history book on the couch, Xingqiu also reading a book, Chongyun bugging him to stop, Diluc just existed, Albedo and Sucrose (again) discussing science, Xiao was the only one charging his phone and listening to music through headphones and two other strangers you didn’t recognize: a small, black-haired person making himself a drink (at least trying to) and a complete opposite of him; A tall, blond man with a strange eye patch that covers almost half of his face is scrolling through something on his phone and you and Amber are chatting about many different topics. The extroverts however: kaeya the host trying to develop group activities, Childe trying to get in touch with one of the guys you didn’t recognise, Venti, quite unsuccessfully due to drinking so much alcohol during he strummed soft melodies on his lyre and jeans; keqing, ningguang and ganyu talk to each other as usual. “Guys – we’re playing 7 minutes in heaven. I don’t take ‘no’ for an answer.” – announced kaeya , visibly proud of himself that he came up with this. Of course, some rejoiced while others protested, but nobody really said anything. “Come on, it’s not like we have anything else to do anyway.” – he continued. Still, no one said anything, so the game began. Kaeya wrote all of our names on pieces of paper and put them all in a bag he found somewhere. “Now, who wants to be the first to draw?” Be silent. “Okay, maybe Y/N” – said Kaeya – “Come here” you didn’t want to, but reluctantly you did.
