AriZona Beverages & Jack Nicklaus expand popular Golden Bear line

AriZona Beverages USA, LLC and Jack Nicklaus are pleased to announce the latest addition to the popular Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear line, featuring Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear Mint Lemonade. Golden Bear Mint Lemonade contains 10% juice and honey with a hint of fresh mint flavor. As with the entire line of Golden Bear drinks, the presence of honey provides a smooth taste and reduces the harsh, tart notes typically found in many sodas. Like all AriZona products, Golden Bear Mint Lemonade contains no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. Golden Bear Mint Lemonade’s distinctive packaging makes it easily identifiable. The tin features a photograph of a young Jack Nicklaus clutching the Claret Jug after winning the 1978 British Open, alongside other portraits of memorable personal and sporting achievements. The Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear line of lemonades has quickly become a fan favorite. In just six short months since launch, Golden Bear has expanded its range to include five unique lemonade flavors. The fifth flavor, Golden Bear Mint Lemonade, began distribution in October. The suggested retail price starts at 99 cents for a 23-ounce can. Drink Reaction: Golden Bear Lemonade With Mint

Rad Blog!

Shaq Fu Punch is here, but he’ll have to wait! I take this drink here as a nice transition from the Iced Tea Throwdown. This is Golden Bear…with mint?

That’s correct. Mint. Who has heard of mint lemonade? I sure don’t have it. I didn’t even know AriZona made this version of Golden Bear. I’m a big fan of the strawberry lemonade they make, but mint? Who knows?

It looks kinda weird. I usually see the can in red or yellow, but never green. The background is a bit funky. Looks a bit like camouflage.

That was the last can in the convenience store. I’ve never been to this convenience store and this tin was dirty as hell! I washed it before I even thought to open it.

As you know I’m not a big fan of mint, but for The Rad Blog I’m always willing to try interesting sounding things.

Let me talk a little bit about Jack Nicklaus here. I don’t know anything about him. I have his NES game. I know he plays golf. I know he has that lemonade in Arizona. Is he alive? Yes he is. He won a lot of things. I think he’s pretty good. How long will it be before we get a Tiger Woods drink? We call it Eye of The Tiger Sweet Tea or something. I do not know. What does Tiger Woods like? Ah forget it.

Just take a look. AriZona put some facts on the can. Here’s a fake newspaper. I won’t read it. Apparently he played basketball. He also has 5 children and 22 grandchildren. My goodness. He’s a family man.

Well, off to the nutritional value.

3 servings.

70 calories. 0g total fat. 0 mg cholesterol. 10 mg sodium. 19g total carbohydrates. 0 grams of dietary fiber. 18 grams of sugar. 0g protein. 25% Vitamin C

Pretty standard by Arizona standards. Strange to see things like fiber and cholesterol on it. I don’t usually see these listed.

Filtered Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup (Glucose Fructose Syrup), Lemon Juice From Concentrate, Pear Juice From Concentrate, Honey, Natural Mint Flavor, Citric Acid, Beta Carotene For Color, Ascorbic Acid, Sucralose (Splenda Brand), Acesulfame Potassium.

beta-carotene, right? I’ve heard about it before, but I can’t remember if it’s good or bad. On to Bing!

It is found in carrots and sweet potatoes to make them orange. Um… So this is going to be orange soda? Good for sunburn. Big. I’m sure the sunburn on my stomach is crying out for some beta carotene.

Oh. Increased bladder cancer risk?!?!? I’m risking my life here for entertainment. According to the Mayo Clinic, “There is some concern that beta-carotene may have cancer-causing effects. Human research shows that beta-carotene supplements have increased the risk of bladder, stomach and lung cancer, as well as the risk of death in smokers and those exposed to asbestos.”

Holy Batman, Robin. I really hope the use of color isn’t too bad. That was kind of supplement related, but take my word for it. Can have cancer effects?! Spring. You know what the kids say – Yo Ho!

Oh… “Additionally, research suggests that beta-carotene increases the risk of bleeding in the head in people who also drink alcohol.” Same place. Glad I’m a teetotaler.

ok ok OK! Beta carotene is part of vitamin A. Too much vitamin A is bad for you. According to this can it contains 0% vitamin A. Maybe not enough to kill me.

That makes me very skeptical about energy drinks.

phew It’s vitamin B they use.

OK! Back to the drink. Sorry for the shock!

It costs a dollar, by the way. $1 to DIE!

time to pour.

So… it’s yellow. It looks like lemonade. It also smells like lemonade. I don’t smell a hint of mint. Rhyme.

hmm Let’s taste it. If I die, tell Shaq I thought he was crazy.

Hm. Tin.

I think there’s a reason no one has ever made mint lemonade before. The lemonade flavor is good, but fie! The mint aftertaste lingers like a bad, bad thing. I get a great lemonade taste, but the aftertaste is all sorts of mint.

I think this might be the first AriZona drink I throw away. Bah! no No lemonade and mint. Bad combo. Very bad. Maybe that’s why I don’t see it anywhere else. Apparently this is popular somewhere. Not with me. Sheet!

I think people who like this combination will really like it because both flavors are very, very rich.

Hmm people have that with alcohol. Now, since all that beta carotene and alcohol causes head bleeds, I would avoid putting this in a cocktail.

Ah! This is an offshoot of a mint julep. Yes. South. You can keep this one.

Sheet! I took another sip and just can’t get over the sweetness of the lemonade and minty spearmint. Pooh. What on earth. It just doesn’t work for me. I suppose it’s an acquired taste or it’s not for everyone. I’m really enjoying the lemonade but the mint crashes in and I just wince.

I’ll keep sipping this. I give it 2 cents off Rad. Some people will love it. I do not have.
