What cheese goes best with deli ham?

Cheddar Cheese

The sharpness of the cheddar serves as a perfect partner for the smoky taste of the ham.

hummus grilled cheese – Bran Appetit

We all know the joy of the classic meat and cheese platter. It’s a must if you need a snack that will feed the crowds; It’s quick, easy and provides variety. All the best, right? Sure, except for the fact that they never really taste that great. In fact, they often leave you disappointed (and a little hungry).

Now that we know how delicious (and affordable) Hillshire Farm® Farm Classics® Delicatessen is, we no longer feel like we can stand for the subpar meat and cheese board. So we did some research and are here to tell you how to make your own meat, cheese and cracker ensemble – and how to make your combination delicious, starting with the meat.

Hickory smoked ham

This classic delicacy should not be missing from any good meat and cheese ensemble. Because of its salty-sweet flavor, hickory ham can be paired with a range of cheeses. The trick? Find one with a flavor and texture to match.

Which cheese?

Munster cheese

Munster cheese has a fairly mild and smooth flavor and texture. This optimally complements the smoky taste of your meat. And as an added bonus, it’s lower in fat than some other cheeses like mozzarella or cheddar.=

Swiss cheese

Like Munster, Swiss cheese is soft and smooth, with a nutty texture that some would describe as nutty. Its mild flavor complements the roasted flavors of the smoked hickory ham.

Which crackers?

Honestly, we might be a little swayed with cracker choices with this pairing. Stack it on top of a salty cracker for an extra kick of flavor — or go for something milder like a leg cracker to preserve the flavors of the meat and cheese.

Ham roasted in honey

The tried and tested taste of golden honey paired with the delicate taste of ham? Yes, please! Make sure you include Honey Roasted Ham in your setup – but note that he’ll disappear quickly.

Which cheese?

brie cheese

Brie has a smooth, buttery flavor with a slightly salty finish. Pair it with your toasted honey ham for a foolproof combination.

Provolone cheese

Provolone; one of the most versatile cheeses ever. It has a mild, smoky flavor, making it the perfect partner for honey roasted turkey breast. Put them together, close your eyes and escape to your meat and cheese paradise.

Which crackers?

When it comes to roast honey ham, we recommend a cracker with a remarkably salty flavor. When you combine it with the flavors of the honey ham and the mild flavors of the cheese, you have what we like to call a winner.

Oven Roasted Turkey Breast

While honey roasted turkey breast has a sweet flavor, oven roasted turkey breast has a milder, homemade flavor. When it comes to pairing cheese with this deli meat, you should look for something that has a slightly tangy flavor, but you should try to maintain a smooth texture.

Which cheese?

Havarti cheese

Havarti is similar to Swiss in its buttery, smooth texture. But it has a slightly tart flavor, which means it pairs perfectly with your oven-roasted turkey breast.

Asiago cheese

You might recognize Asiago as a topping on your favorite pasta or soup. It has a semi-sweet flavor but is also pungent — which offsets the bland flavor of oven-roasted turkey breast.

Which crackers?

Due to the milder flavor of oven-roasted turkey breast, we recommend choosing a cracker with slightly spicier or spicier flavors, such as: B. ground black pepper.

Black Forest ham

When it comes to the deeply smoky flavor of Black Forest ham, pair it with a sweet or tangy flavored cheese.

Which cheese?

Gruyere cheese

This sweet but slightly salty cheese has a creamy texture. Its flavor isn’t overpowering, so you can savor every bite of your Black Forest ham without too much distraction.

Cheddar cheese

Let’s be honest – cheddar should definitely be invited to the party, but it should definitely be paired with your Black Forest ham. The spiciness of the cheddar serves as a perfect partner for the smoky flavor of the ham.

Which crackers?

A lot of flavor will happen with this combination, so we recommend a milder cracker option, like a leg cracker. But if you’re feeling adventurous, a salty cracker certainly won’t hurt your combo.

Next time you consider snagging that questionable meat and cheese tray from the grocery store, think twice and get Hillshire Farm® Farm Classics® Delicatessen Meats instead. Roll up the meat, slice your cheese, stack your crackers, place them on a tray and bask in your DIY glory.

hummus grilled cheese – Bran Appetit

In our eyes, hummus is the king of all dips – why? It’s creamy, delicious and healthy for you. Here are 12 creative things to do with hummus: salad dressing with soup and the classic hummus and pita chips.

Chickpeas are delicious enough on their own, but somehow they taste 10x better when mixed with a few other simple ingredients.

Originating in the Middle East, hummus is known worldwide as a tasty, nutritious dip that even vegans can enjoy as it contains no animal products.

Spooning hummus with soft-baked pitas is the classic way to enjoy it, but there are countless other recipes using hummus, each offering a completely different flavor experience.

We’re here to tell you all about hummus ingredients and give you some tips and tricks so you can try some of our favorite ways to eat hummus.

What is hummus?

Traditional hummus begins with a base of chickpeas that are mashed or mixed with lemon juice, tahini, olive oil, and garlic. It has a fresh, creamy flavor that goes well with many different dishes; Hummus dip goes great with chips, crackers and pitas.

As hummus continues to grow in popularity, we’ve seen some exciting variations on the traditional recipe, from beets to peanuts, caramelized onions, black olives and more. You can even make hummus with a base other than chickpeas, like zucchini, cauliflower, and kidney beans, handy for allergy sufferers.

Today we’re going to focus on the traditional hummus recipe and the best ways to use hummus in your kitchen on a daily basis.

Things to eat with hummus

What can you eat with hummus? As it turns out, almost everything. Here are some different uses of hummus that you can try.

#1: Pita chips, bread, and crackers

Combining flatbread and hummus is a classic way to enjoy this hearty dip. You can cut some pitas into triangles, bake them until crispy and serve them warm with hummus, or just tear apart some soft pitas and dunk them straight in – both are fantastic.

Hummus and crackers are also a dynamite combo. Almost any cracker will do, but avoid overly flavored varieties that compete with the hummus, which should be the star of the show. One of the best crackers for hummus are shredded wheat crackers like triscuits, which offer a textured crunch that pairs well with smooth hummus. Rice crackers are light, crunchy, and make a great combo when dipped in hummus.

You can also try other chips for hummus because everyone loves chips. Again, opt for classic salted chips over wacky flavors like tortilla chips and hummus for a perfectly mixed party snack.

#2: Sandwiches

What’s better than mayo or butter on a sandwich? Hummus, that’s what! Spread hummus on a slice or two of your favorite whole wheat bread, top with lettuce, tomato, and your choice of falafel or meat, and you’ve got a fancy lunch that’s easy to make.

Another tasty twist is a grilled hummus sandwich, which you can easily make with a panini press or cake iron. Sound delicious? It is save! One of the best ways to eat hummus is to lightly sizzle it! Cover both pieces of bread with it and fill the middle with your favorite toppings: hummus ties it all together while providing a creamy texture and rich flavor. Place in a cake iron or panini press, bake 3-5 minutes on each side and enjoy the crunchy goodness!

If you want some crunch but don’t have the time, there’s a simple solution: toast! If you love fresh avocado toast like the rest of the US, try spreading some hummus on top first, then top with fresh avocado slices, sea salt, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Delicious!

#3: Creative Vegetables and Fruits

You probably already know that hummus is a healthy dip for carrots, fresh cucumbers, and peppers.

Carrot sticks and hummus are great, but you can switch things up and try these creative options with different veggies to dip in hummus as well:

What Vegetables To Eat With Hummus:

celery and hummus

sugar snap

Thinly sliced baked sweet potato

cauliflower

Sliced radishes

asparagus

Jicama

Sweet and salty make some of the best flavor combinations – popcorn, salted caramel, the list goes on. It might come as a bit of a surprise, but one of the best things to dip in hummus is fruit. Plenty of sweet fruits go great with salty and rich hummus.

Try dates, strawberries or sliced apples and hummus for a whole new perspective on the dip.

#4: Salad Dressing

Hummus makes a perfect nutty salad dressing on any tossed salad or kale salad. The hint of lemon juice gives it just enough acidity. You can spread it as is or mix in some extra olive oil and lemon to thin it out and make the dressing pourable.

Either way, it will take your salad game to the next level.

#5: Pasta Sauce

Vegans will love one of our favorite ways to eat hummus in a creamy pasta that contains absolutely no dairy or animal by-products. Add to freshly cooked pasta with a little oil and salt, or mix into any homemade pasta sauce to add creamy depth to your dish.

#6: Chocolate Cake

If you’re wondering what to eat besides pita with hummus, this next option is anything but classic. It might seem odd to add hummus to your ooey, gooey brownies, but trust us, it’s worth a try.

The best brownies have a dense, almost raw texture that’s irresistible, and the texture of hummus works well in this unique combination. They make your brownies a little more nutritious, and the hummus flavor is imperceptible in each rich chocolate bite.

#8: Scrambled Eggs with Tofu

Scrambled tofu is a fantastic vegan breakfast option, especially with the addition of black salt or kala namak, giving the homemade tofu dish an eerily similar flavor to the real thing.

Cook your tofu scrambled eggs and top the hot meal with a scoop of hummus to make it even richer and more delicious.

#9: Boiled Eggs

Devil eggs are the best snacks for holiday entertainment or everyday snack. Instead of using the typical mayonnaise and Dijon mustard filling, you can up the protein even more by simply tossing hummus with your boiled egg yolk, ladle back into your boiled egg and sprinkle with a generous sprinkling of paprika.

#10: Soup

What can you do to make your soup creamy without adding cream? Vegan soups can sometimes be a little watery, so hummus is a great addition to pureed vegetable soups like pumpkin, sweet potato, broccoli, or carrots.

#11: Tacos and wraps

Hummus goes perfectly with any Mediterranean or Middle Eastern wrap, like falafel. But it doesn’t stop there—sprinkle hummus over homemade beef, chicken, or veggie tacos to spice up a Mexican night’s dinner.

#12: Mashed Potatoes

If you prefer to skip dairy when cooking, try mixing a generous dollop of hummus into your next batch of mashed potatoes. You get the ideal creamy texture, add some delicious garlic flavor, and make the side dish a lot healthier too.

Final Notes: What do you eat with hummus?

Try some of these 12 out-of-the-box ways to include this healthy food in your diet a little more often for an extra boost of fiber and other nutrients.

From sandwiches to salad dressing to soups, hummus is clearly not just for pita chips. Vegans in particular can enjoy hummus as a substitute for dairy to add creaminess to dishes while keeping protein levels high.

Do we need to cook ham for sandwiches?

We buy ham from the deli and we don’t need to cook it, which can be confusing. The answer, in short, is if it is cured, smoked or baked, ham is considered “pre-cooked,” and would not technically need to be cooked. This includes the ham that is purchased at the deli.

How to recognize cooked and uncooked ham

It is important to recognize the differences between fully cooked and uncooked ham to prevent foodborne illness.

Have you ever wondered if you need to cook a ham or if you can eat it straight from the cooler without cooking? We buy ham at the deli and don’t have to cook it which can be confusing. In short, the answer is that when cured, smoked, or baked, ham is considered “pre-cooked” and would not technically need to be cooked. This also includes the ham that is bought in the delicatessen. In fact, most hams sold to consumers are already cured, smoked, or baked. As a delicacy, it can be eaten straight from the refrigerator, but other hams are usually reheated to enhance flavor and texture. You can also buy fresh ham that needs to be cooked before eating.

You can tell if the ham has been processed because the packaging says what type of ham it is. If a ham has a package label that says it needs to be cooked (e.g., “cook thoroughly”), it should also include cooking instructions. It should clearly state that cooking is required.

Even smoked ham needs to be refrigerated at a temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below. The exception is if the ham is canned or dry cured then it can be stored at room temperature. Country ham and prosciutto are examples of raw ham. Most hams can be safely stored in the fridge for three to five days and in the freezer for three to six months, but specific times can be found online as there is some variation.

The USDA recommendations state: “Set the oven temperature to 325°F. Cook all raw fresh hams and ready-to-eat hams to an internal temperature of at least 145°F as measured by a food thermometer before removing the meat from the heat source. For safety and quality reasons, allow the meat to rest for at least three minutes before carving or eating. For reasons of personal preference, the consumer may choose to cook meat at higher temperatures. Reheat cooked hams packaged in USDA approved equipment to 140°F and all others to 165°F.”

Is a ham and cheese sandwich healthy?

If ham and cheese is one of your favorites, you can count on getting some significant nutrition from a sandwich made with whole-grain bread and natural rather than processed cheese. One sandwich has about half a day’s protein and at least 20 percent of the recommended daily intake of eight vitamins and minerals.

hummus grilled cheese – Bran Appetit

According to FoodTimeline.org, ham has been a popular sandwich meat since the early 1800s. If ham and cheese is one of your favorites, you can rest assured that a sandwich made with whole-wheat bread and plain rather than processed cheese provides some key nutrients. A sandwich contains about half a day’s worth of protein and at least 20 percent of the recommended daily intake of eight vitamins and minerals.

Sandwich Basics

The nutrition facts for a basic sandwich give you a good base of information before adding any seasonings or toppings. A sandwich of 2 slices of whole wheat bread, 2 slices of ham weighing 56 grams and 1 ounce of Swiss cheese, which is a typical slice, has 335 calories and 24 grams of protein. All three ingredients contribute almost equal amounts of calories and protein. About half of the sandwich’s 15 grams of fat comes from the cheese, with another 30 percent from the ham. The whole grain bread has 3.8 grams of fiber and the ham contributes 0.7 grams, for a total of 4.5 grams of fiber.

B vitamins

A ham and cheese sandwich has 23 to 50 percent of the recommended daily intake of all B vitamins except folic acid, of which it has 9 percent. These vitamins all act as coenzymes, meaning they activate the enzymes responsible for converting food into energy and producing neurotransmitters, hormones, and red blood cells. Ham and whole grain bread are primarily responsible for the B vitamins, with one exception: vitamin B-12. Almost 80 percent of all B-12 comes from Swiss cheese and the rest comes from ham.

minerals

Ham and whole wheat bread are good sources of selenium and manganese. Both minerals are antioxidants. Selenium also helps regulate thyroid hormones and manganese is essential for bone formation. You’re getting 1.5 milligrams, or 65 percent of the recommended daily allowance, of manganese and 0.04 milligrams, or 72 percent of the recommended daily allowance of selenium, from one sandwich. You also get 294 milligrams of bone-building calcium, which is 29 percent of your daily intake.

Spices

One tablespoon of mayonnaise contains 22.5 micrograms of vitamin K, otherwise you won’t get any nutrients if you add mayonnaise or mustard to your sandwich. A tablespoon of mustard adds only 10 calories and 1 gram of fat, but the same serving of mayonnaise has 94 calories and 10 grams of fat. If you opt for a grilled sandwich and substitute 1 tablespoon of butter for the condiments, you get 102 calories and 12 grams of fat.

toppings

Adding veggies gives your sandwich a big nutritional boost without the calories and fat. A cup of raw, non-starchy vegetables like spinach, cucumber, onion, lettuce, tomato, bell pepper, or sprouts has 2 grams of protein, no fat, and 25 calories. Vegetables also add fiber, vitamins C, A, and K, folic acid, iron, and potassium to your sandwich.

mayonnaise

Mayonnaise is one of the most popular condiments in the world. The mixture of egg, vinegar, and oil is used in a variety of sandwiches, from tuna salad to turkey and everything in between.

While this creamy topping is a great choice, one of the best sandwich condiments is that it can be customized.

Mayonnaise is a great vessel to build on to create a truly unique type of sandwich! Sauces like hot sauce and chipotle sauce can be mixed in to turn plain mayo into a flavorful condiment. This would be great on a turkey sandwich!

Additionally, things like bacon bits can be mixed in to add an extra layer of flavor to sandwiches like BLT (bacon, lettuce, and tomato).

Another great idea for customizing mayonnaise is to use herbs (like chives or dill), different types of cheese (like blue cheese or goat cheese), and spices (like turmeric or chili flakes). All of these things add a completely different flavor to plain mayo!

tapenade

A good tapenade consists of perfectly mixed olives, capers and anchovies. However, there are many variations of tapenade out there! It will always have olives as the main base, however artichokes, spinach, garlic, etc. can be added to really spice it up.

This flavorful type of spice is a wonderful choice for veggie sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, or even turkey.

It adds a savory touch to the sandwich with a distinct olive flavor and finishes with all the spices paired with it.

It can also be prepared with anchovies to make a vegan option as well. This expands its application to pairing it with tofu in a wrap or other vegan sandwiches.

No matter what, tapenade proves to be a really versatile condiment for a delicious sandwich!

hummus

Hummus is usually thought of as a dip for crackers or veggies. While this is an excellent way to enjoy hummus, hummus can also be used as a condiment on many different types of sandwiches!

Hummus is a smooth, creamy spread made from a variety of beans like chickpeas, kidney beans, black beans, etc. It’s combined with lemon and tahini for an ultra-creamy texture. Things like roasted peppers, pine nuts, chili, olives, garlic, onions, etc. can be added to enhance the overall flavor.

Because of its complex flavor profile, hummus makes a tasty condiment for a sandwich.

It goes well with breakfast sandwiches with eggs, bacon or sausage, grilled chicken sandwiches, sandwiches with deli foods like ham, salami or turkey, vegetable sandwiches, etc. The possibilities really are endless!

fruit jam

Fruit jams aren’t just for PB&J’s anymore! Depending on the choice of fruit and various spices, fruit jams are ideal for grilled cheese rolls. Cheese and jam are a match made in heaven, and jam also goes well with meat such as ham or turkey.

It is important to prepare the grilled cheese with white cheeses such as havarti, mozzarella, provolone, etc. White cheese works better in fruit jams than yellow cheddar cheese.

Some fruit jams that make a delicious grilled cheese are tart cherry, strawberry, or even chipotle raspberry jam.

In general, red berries are best to use. However, for those feeling really adventurous, peach or apricot jam can also be used. Either way, fruit jams are an unexpected way to transform a hearty grilled cheese sandwich!

Pesto

Pesto is a classic Italian sauce typically made with crushed garlic, salt, basil, pine nuts, and cheese like Parmigiano-Reggiano.

This distinct flavor pairing produces a savory, slightly bitter, tangy taste. Usually, pesto is best used in pasta dishes, especially those with chicken, but this sauce can really develop other layers of depth to other dishes.

Sandwiches that can taste great with a little pesto include grilled chicken, grilled cheese, portabella mushrooms, and caprese.

All of these sandwiches benefit from pesto in such a delicious way! Pesto can be served as a thick condiment or diluted with olive oil. Pesto should have some olive oil in it anyway so it shines and doesn’t get too dry.

If a little extra olive oil is used, it will dilute the pesto and can add even more flavor to the entire sandwich!

remoulade

Remoulde sounds fancy, but its ingredients are pretty simple. A classic tartar sauce has lemon, mayonnaise and garlic. When three ingredients are combined, true magic happens! It becomes a condiment that turns a sandwich into pure bliss.

Tartar sauces are usually found in French dishes and go very well with fish. Fried fish sandwiches or crab cakes are the best ways to incorporate this sauce into a sandwich. However, it can also be used in sandwiches such as breaded or grilled chicken.

Another reason remolde can be a delicious sandwich condiment is that it can be altered to intensify its flavor. More lemon or garlic can be added to the mayo base.

The Remoulde packs even more power behind every bite. While one could argue that remoulde is just another way to transform mayo (and it is!), it’s a very special sauce in its own right!

Mustard

Mustard is a tried-and-true sandwich condiment, typically found on ham or pork sandwiches. Depending on the variety or brand, mustard has a strong bite. It is a very versatile spice that comes with many complementary additives such as jalapenos, white wine, horseradish to name a few.

Although mustard is slightly spicy on its own, the addition of these ingredients increases the spice content and is perfect for someone looking to take their sandwich to a whole new level.

However, mustard goes well not only with ham or pork. A vinaigrette (by adding vinegar) can be made that is perfect for veggie sandwiches or even chicken. It also goes well with lamb and watercress or fresh baby spinach.

Mustard can also be turned into a BBQ sauce with brown sugar, vinegar, pepper, and salt that’s delicious on hot sandwiches like shredded chicken.

Harissa

Harissa is a unique condiment that combines chilies with spices like cumin, caraway, and coriander. It’s usually a thick paste like sauce that’s best spread on sandwiches in thin layers. It can also be paired with Greek yogurt to add another element to its flavor.

It’s a really versatile condiment that can be used on burgers (beef or lamb), breakfast sandwiches, meatball sandwiches, or vegetable-based sandwiches.

It’s a rich, savory choice as a condiment that’s much more than just chilies!

Sandwiches don’t have to be boring! By using a novel spice, a sandwich can be transformed into something very special. Additionally, condiments are what really make a whole sandwich a complete meal!

This page looks at a variety of sandwich condiments that can be used to add a lot of flavor to a boring old sandwich. A sandwich condiment is a condiment, sauce, spread, and/or ingredient (e.g., pickles) that adds flavor to traditional sandwich fillings such as ham, tofu, chicken, roast beef, turkey, etc. These sandwich condiments are usually spread or sprinkled on the sandwich or filet. Many sandwich condiments are also used to add a bit of moisture to sandwiches that might be too dry for some people’s tastes.

What meat goes with mustard?

Mustard is wonderful with beef – just ask the English! Use mustard to help a Bleu Cheese or a Garlic Parmesan steak topping stick to the steak. Both toppings are delicious ways to take and make a meal extra special.

Okay, we all know that mustard is great on burgers, sausages, and sandwiches, but did you know there are so many other things you can make with mustard? Mustard is one of nature’s great emulsifiers, meaning it helps to combine water and oil in a seamless blend. This means you can use it to create sauces, dressings and condiments that combine many different flavors in one delicious package. Check out our top six uses for mustard and let us know what you enjoy making with mustard in the comments!

#6 Ham Glaze

You may like to have mustard with your ham, but have you ever glazed your ham with mustard? You can easily make a sweet glaze for your ham by combining just a few ingredients. Follow our honey mustard ham glaze recipe to mix Dijon mustard, honey, and brown sugar and make a glaze. Bake your ham as usual, then coat it with this glaze and turn up the heat for a sweet outer layer of flavor!

#5 Honey Mustard Dressing

Add a sweet and tangy dressing to your favorite salad with a honey mustard dressing! A delicious honey mustard dressing can be conjured up quickly at home. Check out our Grilled Chicken Salad with Honey Mustard Vinaigrette recipe to see how you can make a fresh batch in your own kitchen.

#4 Season your lamb with mustard

You may not know it, but mustard is fabulous with lamb. Lamb needs bold, assertive flavors to complement the richly seasoned meat, and mustard makes a perfect accompaniment. There are all sorts of ways to pair mustard and lamb, from braising thighs in mustard sauce to glazing chops with mustard sauce, but one of my favorite recipes (and most impressive to serve) is our mustard-crusted rack of lamb, which you see in the picture above . Try it!

#3 Use mustard to make a steak topper

At Lake Geneva Country Meats, we firmly believe that our Leahy’s Angus Beef Steaks are inherently perfectly delicious and ready to eat without any additives. Still, it can be fun to prepare a steak with topping or sauce. Mustard goes beautifully with beef – just ask the English! Use mustard to help a bleu cheese or garlic parmesan steak stick to the steak. Both toppings are delicious ways to take a meal and make it extra special.

#2 BBQ Rub

I’m not kidding, this is one of the most amazing discoveries of my life — rubbing mustard on your grill before seasoning the meat will bump your flavor up to 11. Whether you’re smoking a brisket, ribs, or pork shoulder, rubbing the meat with plain old yellow mustard, which is then seasoned with your favorite dry rub, does two wonderful things. First, it helps the spice stick to the meat more evenly and won’t fall off during smoking. Second, the mustard helps develop a smoky and delicious “bark” flavor on the outside of your meat. I no longer smoke meat without first rubbing it with mustard. Check out our Big Green Egg Smoked Brisket recipe for some smoking tips!

#1 Put it on brats, burgers, and sandwiches!

While there are all sorts of great uses for mustard, it’s still probably the best use for it on sausages, burgers, and sandwiches! There are so many different options — yellow, honey mustard, Dijon, spicy brown, whole grain — that no matter what flavor you’re into, there’s a mustard for everyone. Do as the Germans do and pile it on top of your bratwurst, top with some cabbage and enjoy!

Thank you for reading our “Six Top Uses of Mustard”. We didn’t even mention some great uses like dipping pretzels in mustard. What are your favorite mustard tips and tricks? Let us know in the comments below!

Spring is in the air and I’m doing a happy dance because my favorite season has arrived. The days are getting longer and I’m trying to find excuses to be outside instead of inside. Cooking has given way to gardening and the porch has become my new office. It’s so much more fun to work outside.

Also, the boys are in the middle of baseball season and I’m trying not to miss a game. The eldest grandson made the middle school team this year (go on, team!) and we’ll be traveling to all of his away games as well.

Between baseball and gardening, there’s no time or inclination to cook long meals. I don’t want to heat the house or spend my time in the kitchen. Hello Spring!

There’s something about spring that makes me crave lighter fare, so I created a Mediterranean ham and veggie sandwich that fits perfectly with my busy lifestyle.

Over the years I’ve perfected the art of making delicious sandwiches and today I’m sharing it all with you. Let’s start!

Mediterranean ham and vegetable sandwich

1. Start with great-tasting bread.

A delicious sandwich starts with the best bread. That’s why I use Pepperidge Farm® Whole Grain 15 Grain Bread. It’s low-fat, cholesterol-free, contains no high fructose corn syrup, and is certified by the American Heart Association. Plus, it’s double-bagged for freshness.

2. Use quality ingredients.

When making a Mediterranean ham and vegetable sandwich, Hillshire Farm® Thinly Sliced Honey Ham is a key ingredient. It’s sliced extra thin and slow roasted for hours – just the way I like it.

Because Walmart has everything I need to make a great-tasting sandwich, I don’t have to run across town looking for quality products.

3. Layering matters.

Nobody likes a soggy sandwich. That’s why I layer the ham first. Next I add Hellmann’s® Real Mayonnaise.

My Mediterranean Ham and Vegetable Sandwich includes the addition of hummus. I add it right over the Hellman’s® Real Mayonnaise. It adds an intense flavor that is tangy and delicious. A sprinkling of feta cheese adds a tangy, slightly salty flavor that complements the other flavors.

Next, the alfalfa sprouts are added. The sprouts add a delicious layer of crunch and color.

I finish the layering with another thin layer of ham and top it with another slice of bread. Ta-da – the perfect layered bread!

4 Ways to Make a Ham Sandwich

There are a ton of different ways to put together a ham sandwich. In general, ham goes well with mayonnaise and mustard, which complement the saltiness of ham very well. Tomatoes, onions and cucumbers are the classic vegetables. Swiss is the most popular option for cheese, but a plain cheddar or gourmet soft cheese like pavé d’affinois can also work. There are many options when it comes to ham sandwiches, and most of the sandwich-making process comes down to personal preference. So experiment until you find a recipe you like!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Sabra Dipping Co, LLC. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’m usually for keeping the classics classic. Peanut Butter and Jelly. chocolate chip cookies

Some things are just better left alone; so that they remain as they have always been. But sometimes it pays to try something new.

Maybe by browning the butter in your cookie recipe or adding a new mix. Or change the jam in your sandwich or grill it if you usually have it cold.

And with grilled cheese, I didn’t think I’d ever stray too far from the classic butter-on-bread sandwich with just cheese in the middle.

But I’ve strayed from the book before, and this version is definitely worth trying.

For years I’ve heard that using mayonnaise on the outside of your bread will toast it even better and more golden than using butter. So, the other day, while staring into a fridge full of hummus… I thought, why not? Why wouldn’t super creamy, flavorful hummus be just as good – if not better – spread on the outside of the sandwich and crisped up in a hot skillet?

I mean, I love hummus IN sandwiches. Why shouldn’t it also have a place on the outside of the bread?

And luckily for me it turned out pretty fantastic.

Since I was trying this new hummus crust sandwich, I stuck with a classic cheddar cheese and used one of my favorites — Sabra’s Tahini Hummus — as a flavor punch on the outside of the bread.

Welcome to my new obsession. Can’t wait to try all sorts of cheese mixes and different flavors of hummus! This sandwich is one you can make anyone happy – it’s still close to your regular, run-of-the-mill grilled cheese, just spiced up a little with a little more flavor.

If you’re looking for new recipes — or just great ways to use hummus other than on chips and veggies — make sure you like Sabra on Facebook.
