fun right? Now that we’re done with that, before we move on, let’s first define what Sass means. You can’t be anything if you don’t know what it is, right?

Woman tipping hand Emoji

The emoji represents a person at an information desk or concierge, extending their hand like a waitress carrying a tray of food and drinks.

Another definition: This is the naughtier version. 💁‍♀️ Woman Tipping Hand Emoji can also be used to give shade to another person or to say “I told you so”.

For example, if you told a friend that another friend would be late and he didn’t believe you, but it turned out that you were right, you can add 💁‍♀️ Woman Holding Hand emoji to the beginning or end of your sentence to put more emphasis on what you’re trying to stay.

Example: We should have left the house earlier. I knew there would be a lot of traffic in the city 💁‍♀️

People use this emoji when they say something but mean the opposite of what they say. It is used to criticize someone or something in a funny way.

Also, 🙄 Face With Rolling Eyes emoji is an important symbol because sarcasm in written form is difficult to interpret.

Example: Yes, we can always count on her to give her reports early 🙄

Upside down face emoji

🙃 Upside Down emoji has a softer tone than 😏 Grinning Face emoji and 🙄 Face with Rolling Eyes emoji. You will receive this emoji when the person sending it to you wants to express sarcasm or irony.

🙃 Upside Down Emoji is best used when smiling through tears or keeping a kind face before losing control of your emotions.

Example: Must be at the airport in an hour and I haven’t even packed yet 🙃

Face with tongue emoji

Give them some attitude with the 😛 Tongue Face Emoji! This smiley has a wide, open grin and its tongue is sticking out. 😛 Face With Tongue emoji is more cheerful than 😏 Grinning Face emoji and is used to convey feelings of fun, silliness and playfulness.

Example: It’s still my birthday week. You can’t tell me what to do 😛

Emoji with winking face

Definition: A great emoji for flirting situations, the 😉 Winking Face Emoji can show some cheekiness too! The smiley face is often used to indicate desirable outcomes or to encourage someone to take a specific action.

Example: I know you want to do it, but you’re shy, and now that I’m feeling extra hot today, do you want to go out on a date tonight? 😉

Winking Face with Tongue Emoji

😛 Tongue Face Emoji! + 😉 Winking Face Emoji = 😜 Winking Face With Tongue Emoji.

A crazier version of 😛 Face With Tongue emoji, 😜 Winking Face With Tongue Emoji is used to convey feelings of fun, practical jokes, silliness and cheekiness. It can also be known as the cheeky cousin of the 😉 Winking Face emoji as it also has a winking face.

The 😜 Winking Face With Tongue is usually used after you’ve said something controversial, kinda cheeky but not too explicit.

Example: My friend’s Valentine’s Day was forgotten for the umpteenth time! Men are trash and you can’t change my mind 😜

Unamused Face Emoji

Put simply, the 😒 Cheeky or 😒 Cheeky Face emoji is a translation of the word “ugh”. 😒 Unamused Face emoji is a great way to express dissatisfaction. It shows a yellow face with slightly raised eyebrows, a small frown and eyes gesturing to the side. 😒 Disaffected Face emoji is similar in tone to 😏 Smiling Face emoji and is used to express displeasure, grumpiness, skepticism or unimpressed.

Example: The latest Star Wars movie is so lame. The plot was predictable and the acting was awful 😒

Thinking Face Emoji

As? Well, the 🤔 Thinking Face emoji is also used to indicate a pause in a conversation, to show that you are still thinking, if you are interested in what the other person is saying and if you will listen to them. It’s really a blunt way of going about things, and also really cheeky when you think about it, because it’s like saying, ‘I’m still waiting to answer you, I’m still checking to see if you matter this time.”

Example: When someone asks you, “Hey, do you have a minute? Can we talk about me borrowing money from you?” Then you reply,🤔

Kiss Mark Emoji

Flirting can become awkward if you don’t have a lot of flirting questions to ask. Sometimes symbols are more effective than words because they are interpreted faster and overcome language barriers.

So… if you said “IKR” to that last statement, now it’s time to flirt with the 💋 Kiss Sign Emoji! 💋 Kissing Emoji is a lipstick mark used to represent affectionate or friendly kisses, love and romance, and sometimes even cheekiness!

Example: Hey, you forgot to kiss me last night. It’s all right, I can wait 💋

Blank Face Emoji

When you’re in a wild mood, you don’t have to be loud. Sometimes silence is a stronger communicator than noise. At first glance, 😑 Blank Face Emoji looks harmless compared to 😏 Smiling Face Emoji or even 🤔 Thinking Face Emoji. But that’s not true.

😑 Blank Face emoji is a smiley face with a straight, closed mouth and serious eyes and is used to show tiredness and anger. It has a strong negative connotation and is used to express impatience towards someone or something.

In addition, 😑 Blank Face Emoji is also a cheeky symbol in a passive-aggressive way. Which, when I think about it, can have an even louder impact than a “louder” emoji.

Example: Someone asks, hey, can I call you? We haven’t dissected the second part of my date yet! Then you answer with… 😑

Conclusion

To wrap things up, let’s get one thing straight – mean and naughty don’t mean the same thing. Some people might have that connotation, but it’s dead wrong. Sass takes classes and separates the woman from the girl. Cheeky women are confident and full of quick comebacks, but they never go below the belt. They have a calculated approach to what to say and how to act.

In contrast, bullies act irrationally and impulsively. When things don’t go their way, they blurt out hurtful remarks out of anger and malice. They live and breathe drama, and when they hold grudges, they hold them in their hearts forever. Meanwhile, naughty girls comment, but don’t keep it up.

When you unleash your cheekiness and inner villain, whether through emojis like 😏 Grinning Emoji or through real-life situations, we try not to stray into mean girl territory. Unleashing your power does not mean lessening the power of others. After all, we all live in the same world.

In the end, what goes around gets around.

There’s no denying the power emojis have when it comes to increasing engagement and emphasizing communication. Sometimes all you need is an icon to get the point across, and emojis serve that purpose.

However, it’s worth noting that the shrug emoji wouldn’t exist without its predecessor, the shrug emoticon. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Although emojis have come a long way, I’m still a big fan of typed emoticons. Emoticons take me back to simpler times when my phone still had a physical keyboard and AOL Instant Messenger was my main method of communication. Those were the days.

After popular public demand, Apple finally introduced multiracial emoji icons (but no redheads — sorry, folks) in its latest iOS update. But there are still times when you can’t find the perfect emoji to express yourself. Instead of waiting for the next (probably far away) emoji update from Apple, it’s time to start creating your own emoji.

With imoji, a free app for iOS and Android, you can turn any picture – even one you’ve downloaded from the internet – into a custom emoji to share with your friends via MMS.

Step 1: Choose your image

Open the Imoji app and tap the plus sign to add a new “Imoji” (emoji) or “Artmoji” (an image with emoji stamps). Tap on “Imoji” and the camera will open. If you want to use a spontaneous photo as emoji, take a photo with the camera and make sure that the emoji subject (e.g. your face) stays inside the dotted oval.

Screenshot by Sarah Jacobsson Purewal/CNET

If you want to use an existing photo from your camera roll as emoji, tap Photos in the lower-left corner to choose an image. Move and scale the image as needed to ensure the emoji subject is completely within the dotted oval, then tap the arrow.

Step 2: Trace and cut out your emoji

On the next screen, Imoji will cut out everything that wasn’t inside the oval. However, if you want a more precise border around your emoji, you can now use your finger to draw an outline around your emoji subject.

Screenshot by Sarah Jacobsson Purewal/CNET

There’s no need to manually erase everything from the photo — once you’ve drawn an outline around your subject, you can tap the scissor button to cut out the extra background noise.

Step 3: Highlight it

By default, all Imoji emoji are public and available to the rest of the Imoji community. If you want to keep your imoji public, give it a descriptive name so other users can find it when they search. Otherwise, tap the lock icon and name it whatever you want (only you can see and share this emoji).

Screenshot by Sarah Jacobsson Purewal/CNET

Step 4: Share it

To share your emoji, tap on it to bring up a list of options: iMessage, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Copy to Clipboard, Set as Avatar, and Delete.

Screenshot by Sarah Jacobsson Purewal/CNET

Tap the messaging service or social network you want to share with to open that app.

Screenshot by Sarah Jacobsson Purewal/CNET

Remember – this is not a “real” emoji, i. H. a Unicode character, it’s an image. So if you try to share it on a social network, end up posting a picture – not a comment. However, if you share it on a messaging app, you still get a relatively emoji-like experience, as iMessage and Facebook Messenger balance picture messages with text.

What does 💁 mean in texting?

What does 💁 Person Tipping Hand emoji mean? The person tipping hand emoji 💁 was designed to represent a person at an information desk or a concierge holding up an outstretched and open hand, as if offering help or guidance.

Hands On Hip Emojis & Text

The original intent of the person-tap-hand emoji 💁 was to…

A) Specify an actual information desk, such as at an airport or museum, or

B) Demonstrate or present helpful information and fun facts as a nice person at the information desk would.

For example, Microsoft’s first design showed a generic person sitting at a desk with an i for information on their chest. But you know, the internet has done its thing.

Since the emoji’s original design was typically of a woman with her palm roughly level with her hair, many thought the emoji resembled a woman tossing her hair behind her shoulder. And so a usage was born.

When is it fabulous to throw your hair behind your shoulder? Usually after a good point, cheeky remark, or knowledgeable sarcasm. So, in all these cases, Person Tilting Hand emoji 💁 is used.

What does 😏 mean from a girl?

As its official name reveals, 😏 Smirking Face represents the facial expression of a smirk. It’s used to communicate a range of feelings, including smugness, self-confidence, self-indulgence, mischief, cheeky humor, and general satisfaction. 😏 Smirking Face especially implies, however, flirtation and sexual innuendo.

Hands On Hip Emojis & Text

One of the great virtues of emojis is their ability to highlight sounds where regular text cannot. A simple ❤️ Red Heart can add affection to a text message. A series of 😂 😂 😂 Face with Happy Tears can show that we find something funny in a social media post. But capturing the full complexity of our emotions in the small space of an emoji is not always so easy. Think 😏.

On the Apple keyboard, 😏 shares his raised brows and comma-shaped side eyes with 😒 Unamused Face, but instead boasts a half-smile tilted to the left. 😏 will definitely be amused somehow, but how exactly? It’s time for some emojiology again.

Above: On Apple’s keyboard, Smirking Face emoji (left) and Unamused Face emoji (middle) have the same eyes but very different smiles. The Grinning Face Emoji also has a cat smiley face variant (right), Cat Face with a Wry Smile.

🔤 Meaning

As the official name suggests, 😏 Smirking Face represents the facial expression of a smirk. It is used to communicate a range of feelings including complacency, self-confidence, self-indulgence, mischief, cheeky humor, and general contentment. 😏 However, grinning face mainly implies flirtation and sexual innuendos.

💬 Development

😏 Smirking Face was popularly debuted in 2010 with its approval under Unicode 6.0. However, Apple included the emoji in its initial implementation of emoji support as part of iPhone OS 2.2 in 2008, albeit on a limited basis in Japan.

Above: How the smiley face emoji appears across platforms. Note that only Mozilla’s smiley faces straight ahead.

Wedged between 🙄 Face With Rolling Eyes and 😣 Face With Perseverance, 😏 Grinning Face exhibits some striking similarities – and contrasts – on different keyboards.

On all major platforms, the figure wears a knowing smile pointing up to the left of the face, although its length and sharpness vary widely. For example, the smile on the 😏 Smirking Face from Google and Microsoft has softer curves and features a shy, friendlier-looking smiley. LG and Facebook omit eyebrows, only Mozilla shows straight-ahead eyes; the remaining smileys blink mischievously to the left.

😏 Smirking Face was christened Twitter in May 2011 and skyrocketed on social media later that summer with the release of Apple’s OS X Lion, which added support for emojis for its desktop computers.

In 2015, Snapchat brought 😏 Grinning Face further to the fore when it introduced Friend Emojis, a feature designed to help users manage their contacts on the messaging app by using emoji to symbolize friend statuses. Among them was the 😏 Grinning Face, which means “You’re one of their best friends… but they’re not your best friends.” You don’t send them many snaps, but they send you many.” With its 😏 grinning face, Snapchat is hinting that the messaging imbalance is a dirty little secret for the preferred friend to delight in.

Some Snapchatters greeted the change with a 😏 grin:

The new Snapchat update gives me another reason to love this emoji 😏 – C a i t l i n ॐ (@Caitlin0Sanders) April 6, 2015

Others gave him the old 😒 carefree face:

I’m feeling pretty uncomfortable with the new snapchat update, there’s a “😏” emoji next to a conversation with my mom wtf ???? — Emily (@emilypugh_) April 6, 2015

Snapchat may have caused @emilypugh_ to feel “uncomfortable” because 😏 Smirking Face was increasingly used in the late 2010s to signal flirtation or underscore lewd remarks in internet dating culture.

In 2017, Clover analyzed emoji behavior on its dating app, and the 😏 Grinning Face ranked among the top emojis users are likely to reply to on the platform – #4 for women and #1 for men.

The 😏 Grinning Face was also one of the top emojis men liked to send, according to Clover. This overzealous use may have helped tarnish the smiley’s associations with shoddy pick-up lines or cheesy pick-up lines on dating apps and private/direct messages. A tweeter summed up such unwelcome emoji overtures:

A guy I don’t know texted me on Facebook saying “Hey 😏” then *____sent a photo* and then “You know you like it, just accept it.” Definitely don’t open the chat. — Emmy Davis (@YCemmy96) January 11, 2018

✅ Examples

😏 Grinning Face has as many and subtle meanings as the complex facial expression that inspired it – hence it also goes well with Flirting, Sexual Face, Smug Face or Racy Smile emoji.

Let’s highlight some of the different shades of 😏 Smirking Face.

This smug 😏 Smirk Face is too cool for school:

Too cool for lame guys to make fun of. 😏 — Don Greene (@Goin4Gusto) July 16, 2011

As this 😏 Grinning Face basks in some pride and accomplishment it deserves:

😏 Grinning face can move its head as if to say “not too shabby”:

Pretty good feeling when the lecturer could tell by the way I was speaking/reading that I was a law student and was impressed by that. Not too shabby 😏 — Kristen Alyssa (@krissylove) March 1, 2018

Or a clever “I know a secret”:

i know something you don’t know 😏

YouTube star Jack Merridew is a bit cheeky, if not perverted, with his 😏 grinning face:

Anyone have questions for a bathtub Q&A? 😏#AskJackM Make ’em juicy – Jack Merridew (@OfficialJackM) March 8, 2018

While @YeaaahKevin leaves a flirtatious but cute 😏 grinning face here:

Katy Perry single? Shaaawdy @katyperry. 😏 – Kevo (@YeaaahKevin) December 30, 2011

The 😏 Grinning Face of Landon Moss highlights a joke that’s clever but true:

Y’all tired of Steves, I think it’s time for a Stephon 😏 https://t.co/WzMbEGv13Q – L’Challa Moss (@_LandonMoss) March 8, 2018

Officer Edith’s 😏 Grinning Face is all about good-natured silliness:

“You’re not going to post these anywhere, are you?”

“No, no, just documenting the scene is everything.

😏” pic.twitter.com/zhc155U6E4 – Officer Edith (@OfficerEdith) March 8, 2018

Others indulge in indulgent self-care with 😏 Smirking Face:

Time to treat myself❤

Doing hair and going shopping this weekend😏 – Vanessa Meza (@AleAle_jaandra) March 8, 2018

With a snap of your fingers and a chick from the corner of your mouth, 😏 Grinning Face can also trigger the joy of “That’s what I’m talking about” 😏 Grinning Face:

My dad came with the snacks 😏 – Kay (@KayyAntoine) February 25, 2018

And many, many, many K-pop fans sprinkle their affection for their favorite stars with 😏 Grinning Face:

🗒️ Usage Notes

As we’ve seen, 😏 Smirking Face is commonly used to communicate a range of feelings. Emoji can be just what we need to crack a joke or spice up a banter, but its ambiguity can lead to some awkwardness.

When using 😏 Grinning Face, pay special attention to its negative and suggestive connotations, especially since its appearance varies by platform. One person might see 😏 Grinning Face as an innocent smile or a friendly wink, while another might interpret it as conceited, dismissive, or even suggestive.

And remember, for all the similarities in their eyes, 😏 Grinning Face is not the same as 😒 Unamused Face.

To avoid “awkward” misunderstandings, combine 😏 Grinning Face with, well, 😂 Face With Happy Tears when aiming for humor or ❤️ Red Heart when aiming for romance. Perhaps 😎 Smiling Face Wearing Sunglasses, which often accompanies 😏 Grinning Face, can help maintain the sense of cleverness or contentment more clearly.

Or try the less charged feline counterpart of 😏 Grinning Face 😼 Wry Smile Cat Face. We all know that cats are unmistakably smug 😏😏😏.

What is ☺ mean?

What does ☺️ Smiling Face emoji mean? The smiling emoji feels all warm and fuzzy inside. This emoji is used to express positive feelings, from happiness to gratitude to affection. Because of its rosy cheeks, some people use the emoji to convey mild embarrassment.

Hands On Hip Emojis & Text

The smiley face emoji is a classic, at least as far as the internet is concerned.

It originated in 1993 in Unicode 1.1 as ☺, which is called white smiling face not because of skin color but because of its white background, as opposed to ☻ or black smiling face. Internet users sometimes still use ☺ to be retro, and older platforms can automatically generate ☺ when you type the smiley emoticon, :).

The white smiling face emoji evolved into the yellow face smiley we know today in the 2000s and was released in 2010 under Unicode 6.0. Across platforms, the White Smiling Face emoji has a slightly open smile, relaxed eyes and eyebrows, and pink cheeks, leading some to believe it is flushed or red.

White Smiling Face emoji seems happier than Slightly Smiling Face emoji 🙂, but a little less happier than Smiling Face With Smiling Eyes emoji 😊 if you keep these things in mind.

Does 3 kisses mean text?

Three kisses suggest that the other person might like you. If you put three and they respond with three you have entered into a little game. It means they are definitely feeling you out.

Hands On Hip Emojis & Text

Not sure if this is an international experience or just something we do over here in Old Blighty, but in the UK we love putting a kiss at the end of a text message. Do they do that somewhere else? I do not know. But putting an “x” at the end of a message means a kiss. So, when your gamer girl/guy sends you 18 little crosses, what exactly does that mean? Here’s a simple guide to kissing.

No kiss

This can mean one of three things. The first is that the person sending it is so unemotional or so scared of their fragile male ego that they can’t bring themselves to give a (let’s be honest here) very feminine kiss. The second is that they are angry with you. Zero kisses is a classic passive-aggressive trick. The third option is that they aren’t from the UK and are confused as to why you keep ending your messages by unsubscribing like you’re an oxo cube.

X

The classic one-on-one kiss. Mainly used with strangers or people you don’t really know. That kiss is your way of telling the world you’re not an ass. If your longtime partner is dishing this out, be careful. She’ll probably dump you or something. Or maybe she’s just in a hurry.

xx

Some guys will get two kisses from a girl and think they’re into him. Trust me they are far away from you. This girl is probably sending around 8 to her best friend and double to her sister. This is the standard rate if you know someone but are not in love with them.

xxx

Here you enter unknown territory. Three kisses suggests that the other person might like you. If you bet three and they respond with three, you have entered a small game. It means they will definitely track you down.

xxxx

This is the promised land. Four kisses means it runs until dawn. Anything before that just means they love you more. Beware, if your other half is dropping so many kisses to another guy or girl, you might want to find a new partner!

Ox

That doesn’t mean you call someone an ox. Okay, there’s a slim chance it could be you, but more often than not, that means a hug and a kiss. Some people chain these together like this “oxoxox” but oddly they never seem to get “ooooxxxxx” which I find quite odd. Hugs and kisses are usually the territory parents take with their children. It’s sweet and juicy. nope

Xxxxccx

If you’re in a long-term relationship, you may have crossed the three-kiss mark. When you’ve been with someone for a while, it’s not uncommon to string around 23 kisses together. Yes, it’s a bit tacky, but who doesn’t love when their significant other is trying so hard to send a few kisses? However, some people are exceptionally busy, and when that is the case, the xs are sometimes accidentally replaced with cs. Mainly because they are next to each other on the keyboard. So, roughly translated, this means that your other half loves you, but she’s busy.

C

A single C might be the worst “kiss” you can get. First, it means they don’t really like you and are just being polite, but it also means they didn’t even care enough about you to quickly read their message to make sure it was spelled correctly. The savvy apologizes if you received such a message today. c

The Greek philosopher Plato, who lived around 424 BC. His observations undoubtedly derived from the finding that our heart beats in unison with emotions such as fear, anger, anger, pain, and love. The Greek philosopher Aristotle expanded on Plato's discovery and asserted that the heart rules all human processes, not just emotions. Since then we have connected love to our hearts. The <3 emoticon has inspired many other symbols associated with love. For example: Learn many more ways to say "I love you" online.
