Primary drain plug stripped
I changed my primary oil and adjusted the clutch for my annual pre-winter service. My primary drain plug has always been a little tight since I had my dealer rework it 2 years ago. This time when I removed it some threads came out of the inner case with the screw but not all threads. I was able to screw the connector back in using a new oring and some white Loctite on the threads. Topped up with MTL and took the bike for a 30 minute ride and rode it up to 75mph a few times. No leaks. But I know this was probably the last time the plug would grip because it gets tight and then twists half a turn and tightens again…so I tightened it and set the Loctite for 30 minutes before I refilled it Has anyone repaired one of these with a timesert or helicoil or something? I actually don’t want to pull the inner primary plug and the plug is in the IP. Does anyone know the size of the drain plug? I’m not taking it out until I have a solution. Also, it’s a clear shot to lightly tap the hole, but if I’m going to do that I’d prefer a steel insert. I just don’t know if the case will crack.
