The healing oil in the Bible is one of the most famous stories of all time. The story, told of a man who was healed after touching Jesus’ clothing, has been parodied and quoted countless times in pop culture.
The story begins with a man suffering from leprosy, which is not only painful but disfiguring. He asked Jesus to heal him because he felt his condition made him unclean and unworthy to be with other people.
Jesus said to him, “Your faith has healed you.” Then he reached out and touched the man’s arm and said, “I am willing to do this for you because you asked me to.”
Immediately the leprosy disappeared from the man’s arm! He was so amazed at what had happened that he rushed back to town and roared about it. Everyone came out to see what the noise was all about and when they saw how healthy he looked they were amazed too!
Healing Oil of the Bible
1. Cedar wood
The Egyptians used cedar wood to embalm the dead as a preservative for the afterlife. It is also used as a traditional medicine in Tibet. Cedarwood is derived from the cedars of Lebanon, similar to its balsam fir neighbor, and is known for its healing and cleansing properties.
Cedarwood in writing:
“The priest shall direct that two living clean birds and some cedar wood, scarlet thread, and hyssop be brought for the person to be cleansed” (Leviticus 14:4).
“The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, shall grow like a cedar of Lebanon” (Psalm 92:12).
Use for cedar wood:

2. Cinnamon
Although cinnamon is most commonly used as a spice in food, in the Bible cinnamon is both an anointing oil and an attractive fragrance. Cinnamon is related to a bark called cassia, a fragrant, aromatic bark that’s ground into a powder.
Cinnamon in Scripture:
All your robes are fragrant with myrrh, aloe, and cassia; out of palaces adorned with ivory, the sound of the strings rejoices” (Psalm 45:8).
Then the Lord said to Moses: “Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half (i.e. 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of fragrant sweet flag, 500 shekels of cassia – all according to the sanctuary shekels – and one hin of olive oil. Make it a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, a perfumer’s work. It will be the holy anointing oil. Then anoint with it the tabernacle of meeting, the ark of the covenant law, the table and all its utensils, the lampstand and its trimmings, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stands’” (Exodus 30:22-28 ).
Use for cinnamon:
Cinnamon isn’t just used in sacred anointing oil, and as a perfume or spice, cinnamon is known to help with ailments like stomach ulcers and as an antiparasitic (worms).
Practical use:
Apply 2-4 drops of the oil directly to the abdominal area to help with digestive issues, add to toothpaste or dissolve in hot tea to soothe your throat.
3. Incense
Christians know frankincense best as one of the gifts given to baby Jesus as part of the Christmas story, but frankincense is also currently believed to promote cellular health in the skin and build a healthy immune system.
Frankincense in Scripture:
“Then the Lord said to Moses: ‘Take fragrant spices – gum resin, onycha and galbanum – and pure frankincense, all in equal quantities, and make a fragrant mixture of frankincense, the work of a perfumer. It shall be salted and pure and holy. Grind some of it into powder and put it in front of the Ark of the Covenant in the Tent of Meeting where I will meet you. It shall be most holy to you’” (Exodus 30:34-36).
