Full Front Panel Programmability – You can edit existing systems in favorites lists or create new systems from scratch. You are no longer tied only to the information we provide in our database when you are on the go and not using a PC.

Trunked System Load/Receive Status Tool

Current trunking system activity

Trunked LCN Monitor (activity over time)

Trunking activity logging (including log file for detailed review)

Talkgroup converter to switch between decimal and hexadecimal channel representation

LCN Finder helps to determine the logical channel numbers for EDACS and LTR trunk systems.

Band Scope draws a graph of RSSI vs. frequencies for a range of frequencies

RF Power Plot presents a graph of RSSI vs. time for a single frequency to aid in locating transmission sources, monitoring antenna performance, and tracking interference issues.

limit search

Trunking System Discovery makes it much easier to discover new channels in a trunked radio system. The HomePatrol-1 continuously monitors the selected system and compares received channel assignments with the known channels for your area. When a new talkgroup is discovered, it records up to 3 minutes of audio so you can later review and identify the agency using the channel.

Conventional Discovery similarly helps you find active frequencies in your area that didn’t make it into the database. When a frequency is active, the HomePatrol-1 compares the frequency and subtone settings to known channels in your area. If the information is not in the database, HomePatrol-1 will record up to 3 minutes of audio so you can later verify and identify the agency by frequency.

HP1 extreme

The first paid update for the HP1 is called HomePatrol 1 v2 Extreme Edition, or simply HP1 Extreme or HP1E. It is intended for the advanced scanner user rather than the beginner. The HP1E adds things to the ‘regular’ HP1 that will appeal to advanced scanner listeners who want advanced features that most novice users might not need. It costs $100 from

Features of the HP1E include the ability to make it work a little more like traditional scanners, with per-channel set delays, volume offsets, limit and service type searches, and a graphical bandscope similar to a spectrum analyzer. Conventional discovery mode allows you to scan a range of frequencies end-to-end to find previously unknown users and record them. While some of these features might make it seem like you would be better off with a more conventional scanner like the BCD996XT, you can use the HP1E with both the beginner and advanced feature sets.

More advanced users will like the ability to decode data streams from trunked radio systems and the LCN finder for EDACS and LTR systems (this is required for proper programming of scanners). With the Trunking Discovery feature, you can find new talkgroups on a system and even record the voice traffic found using those new talkgroups so you can decipher their users. The HP1E also allows you to view and use radio IDs on some trunked radio systems. Once you’ve identified them, you can also assign names and warnings to them. For example, if you identified Radio 12345 as Deputy Fife, you can add that name to the radio so that his name will appear when he speaks on his radio.

Some software application users can connect the HP1E to the computer and use it as a data source for analysis with a built-in data slicer. You can even use it as an audio source for live scanner streaming over the internet, either to share with others (e.g. as a feed on RadioReference or other websites) or for your own private use.

After you have purchased and installed the upgrade for your radio and the Sentinel program, the radio will display a new selection when connected to the computer. Mass Storage mode allows you to perform the various upgrades for routine use as you would have done before the upgrade. The “serial” mode is to be used for future features and the various streaming and data applications.

The HP1E allows you to create new systems, either trunked or conventional, via Favorites mode either via the radio or Sentinel. Within favorites you can create a new favorite and then create new systems. Follow the instructions and prompts to create the systems you want, regardless of whether the information is in the RRDB.

If you are familiar with the Uniden DMA scanners like the BCD996XT or BCT15X, you know what “Systems”, “Sites”, “Groups” and “Channels” are. With the HP1E, you can create new systems in much the same way, but effectively “departments” on the HP1E are equivalent to “groups” on DMA scanners.

You can even set a location for one of these user-created systems so the radio can automatically monitor the system based on your location.

This gives you almost all the features of a traditional scanner plus all the cool stuff of the HP1. None of the HP1 features are disabled by upgrading to the HP1E, and if you don’t want or need the HP1E, the HP1 still offers all the features you got with the radio. The HP1E really gives you the best of both worlds for a little more money. The first paid update for the HP1 is called HomePatrol 1 v2 Extreme Edition, or simply HP1 Extreme or HP1E. HP-2: – Home Patrol 2 Extreme Package

shoe8ooty said: If you buy the “Extreme Upgrade” you can upgrade the firmware for the HP2 without having to connect the scanner to the PC and if so, like a cell phone, the firmware will be automatically upgraded if there is ever a problem Appointment available? or do I still have to manually update the firmware and not connect to a PC, just update the firmware on the HP2 scanner itself? Click to expand…

The “Extreme Upgrade” activates functions that are included in the current firmware but are not activated. Adding the Extreme upgrade does not require the scanner to be connected to a PC. No updates were issued for the HP-2. It does what it was designed to do and no firmware tweak was required to fix an unforeseen issue. For database updates, the HP-2 must be connected to a PC with Sentinel software installed. Sentinel then retrieves the update and integrates it into the software’s database. You can then use Sentinel to write the update and/or any changes or additions to the favorites list to the scanner. It is not an automatic process, and neither the software nor the scanner will automatically update when connected to the Internet.
