Shoe size guide
When it comes to a woman’s clothing size, things can get tricky. A lot of my customers come to Posh and see many different types of sizes in our styles. For example our sizes can run 5/7/9, S/M/L or even 24/25/26. I see a customer staring at all the sizes in confusion and I can see “help” on his face. Here’s a little guide to help you understand the woman’s size chart.
Women’s sizes are divided and are usually categorized by height.
Misses are the sizes you usually see in even numbers, e.g. e.g. 2/4/6. This is a category that typically applies to women with an average height of around 5ft 4, an average bust size, and an hourglass shape. The dress size number is given in inches based on your bust measurement.
Juniors are the odd-numbered sizes, for example 5/7/9. This size is usually suitable for smaller women and may have a more straight figure. If you are trying to determine missize based on a junior fit, junior size is the next number up from missize. For example, if you wear a size 4 for Misss, go up a size to a size 5 for Juniors.
Jeans Size Guide – Based on jeans brand YMI /2 38 1/2 39 1/2 41 42 1/2 44
Finding your jeans size can be difficult as there is no universal sizing system and each brand has their own fit. Just because you buy a certain size from one brand of jeans doesn’t mean you will be the same size from the next brand. This can make the search for the perfect pair of jeans a bit frustrating.
When you see a size 24 on jeans, this refers to your waist measurement in inches. So a 24 corresponds to a size 0.
When in doubt, visit Posh Boutique and try on a few different styles and sizes to really experience which styles suit your body best!

Metric paper sizes
Metric paper sizes are also known as International Standard (ISO 216) or DIN (German Standard) paper sizes.
They are used in most countries around the world – the main exception being North America.
In the UK, some “inch” sizes are used in addition to metric sizes. However, the US “Letter” and “Legal” sizes are never used – they are generally replaced by the A4 size. Letter size is shown in our chart for reference – it’s slightly wider than A4 and not quite as tall.
Each A size is twice the size of the previous one: A3 is twice the size of A4 and so on.
Remember that A8 is very small (about 2 inches x 3 inches) and A0 is large (almost 3 feet x 4 feet).

To help you with these ongoing questions, we’ll go through some common paper sizes, what they look like, and how they’re used.
With paper sizes working on an inverse scale, with the largest dimensions being the smallest number, you can see why this can get confusing.
Papers of different sizes are usually used, which always raises questions such as “Is A3 larger than A4?”.
Read on to discover the sizes and uses for these paper sizes and their compatible printers.
A0
Although it has the lowest number, this is the largest of them all, with an A0 paper size of 841 x 1189mm. In other words, they are over a meter high, which is the equivalent of 16 A4 sheets of paper. Typically these are used to make large signs and posters.
A1
Similar to A0 paper, these sheets of paper would be used to create signs, window displays and posters. However, they are not as large as A0, with A1 paper size being 594 x 841mm.
A2
If you scale down from above, the A2 paper size is 420 x 594 mm. The types of things this paper size would be used for are notices, posters, art prints, and window displays. Overall it is slightly larger than a UK broadsheet newspaper.
A3
A form of paper you may have come across at work or school, the A3 paper size is 297 x 420mm, a similar size but slightly different proportions to a tabloid. One of the most popular paper sizes out there, it is typically used for posters, plans, charts, and presentations. While not a suitable paper size for home use, many business smart inkjet printers offer A3 printing capability, with some even offering this from an A4 sized device!
A4
The most common and recognized sheet of paper is A4 paper, measuring 210 x 297 mm. Used across the UK, this is used for everyday printing from Word documents to letterhead. This is the universal home printing format, and all laser and inkjet printers – along with some mobile printers – should be A4-capable.
A5
Another set of dimensions you are used to is the A5 paper size 148.5 x 210mm and has many common uses. From flyers and invitations to brochures, planners and diaries, it’s a handy and portable size. While several mobile printers offer A5 printing capabilities, many standard home printers offer A5 printing as they are half the size of A4, allowing two A5 prints to be printed on one A4 sheet.
A6
The standard A6 paper size is 105 x 148.5mm, making it too small for long blocks of text, but it still has many uses. Some mobile printers offer the ability to print this size, which is most commonly used for flyers, postcards, brochures, and save the dates.
Paper Size Chart
While we’ve talked you through it from A0 to A6, the A-Class actually runs down to a tiny A10 size. Below is a paper size chart showing all A grade sizes, including those not mentioned above, in cm, mm and inches.

How do you guess inches?
The length between your thumb tip and the top knuckle of your thumb is roughly one inch.
Shoe size guide
Method #1: Your hands, feet, elbows, and height
Let’s start with something you always have close at hand – yourself. Assuming you’re a full grown adult, your fingers and limbs have a fixed length, making them perfect for measuring. The only downside is that you need to know their length beforehand. Assuming you have a ruler handy, these are the body parts you can use to measure without a tape measure:
Your hands: There are a few ways to use your hands. One method is to measure from the line on your wrist to the tip of your middle finger – good for measuring long surfaces. For shorter distances, measure the length of your little finger. It’s much easier to use your pinky for smaller dimensions since it’s on the outside of your hand.
Pro (thumb) tip: How to measure an inch without a ruler The length between the tip of your thumb and the top knuckle of your thumb is about an inch. Next time you have a ruler handy, measure it quickly to double-check.
Your Feet: Your feet are a great way to measure room dimensions. For the most accurate measurements, determine the length of your foot from your heel to your longest toe. You can also look up your shoe size on a size chart to estimate the length of your foot.

You can also look up your shoe size on a size chart to estimate the length of your foot. Your Elbows: The distance from the crook of your elbow to your fingertips is about 15 to 18 inches, although your mileage may vary. This trick can come in handy when you need a 12 inch ruler.
The distance from the crook of your elbow to the tips of your fingers is about 15 to 18 inches, although your mileage may vary. This trick can come in handy when you need a 12 inch ruler. Your height: You don’t have to measure yourself from head to toe. Instead, measure your arm span from fingertip to fingertip. Your reach is almost exactly the same length as your height.
Method #2: Your money
An easy way to measure without a tape measure is to use your cash. A plain old dollar bill is exactly 6.14 inches long and 2.61 inches high, but you can easily round these off to the nearest half inch. You can also fold it in sixths to create a makeshift ruler – here’s a quick visual guide showing how.
If you don’t have cash on hand, you can settle with a credit card. At 3.37 inches long and 2.125 inches tall, your plastic can give fairly accurate measurements in the short term.
Method #3: Printer Paper
A standard sheet of letterhead is exactly 8.5 inches by 11 inches. Depending on the size of the surface to be measured, use either the long edge or the short edge.
Method 4: Print out a ruler
Instead of using a piece of paper, why not take it a step further and just print out a ruler? Here are some 12 inch ruler templates to use for those moments when you absolutely need to be as accurate as possible.

However, if you know the length of some common everyday objects, you can turn almost anything into a measuring tool.
Knowing the dimensions of objects also gives you an idea of how big something is. For example, if your hairstylist suggests shaving 4 inches off the length of your hair, are you sure how much hair that would actually be?
Here we look at a variety of items that are 4 inches long and ways you can create 4 inch measurements using common objects.
4 paper clips
Small paper clips are 2.5 cm long. So if you have a pack handy, you can measure each small length in inches by lining up paper clips.
To get a four inch measurement you would need four small paper clips, but you can measure any length as long as you have enough paper clips.
Be sure to keep the paperclips in a straight line for the most accurate measurement. If you only have the larger paperclips, these may work as well.
Large paperclips are two inches long, so you could use two of them to get a four-inch length. You can also use large paper clips to measure any length in inches that is divisible by two.
A credit card
Credit cards and debit cards are a standard size to fit card and ATM machines around the world. Wherever you travel, you’ll likely find that you can use your credit or debit card as long as the provider accepts card payments, as they’re a universal size.
The dimensions of a credit card are 3.5 inches in length and 2 inches in width. If you want to get a rough idea of how long 4 inches is, all you have to do is visualize the length of a credit card and add a little extra.
If you want a more accurate measurement, you can use two credit cards and use the width measurements. Since the width of a credit card is 2 inches, you could line up two credit cards one below the other to get an accurate 4 inch measurement.
A popsicle
Popsicle sticks used for frozen desserts are a good tool to measure around 4 inches since they are a standard size of just over 4 inches long.
The average popsicle stick measures 4.45 inches, so these aren’t ideal for measuring exact lengths, but they’re good for mental visualization when you want to get an idea of what 4 inches would look like roughly.
A toilet paper roll
Toilet paper rolls have a standard size that’s very close to 4 inches, making them an unusual yet handy measuring tool. The exact length of a toilet paper roll is 3.7 inches, so they’re just under the target length of 4 inches.
However, they are very useful as most people have access to a toilet paper roll. So if you’re really having trouble figuring out what 4 inches would look like, just go into a bathroom.
You can also string toilet paper rolls together if you want to measure a longer length divisible by 4, e.g. B. 8 inch, 12 inch and 16 inch.
4 quarters
A quarter, or dime, is a one-inch diameter coin. This makes it an ideal tool for measuring distances when you don’t have a suitable measuring device such as a ruler or tape measure.
With a choice of quarters, you can measure tons of inches. To achieve our goal length of 4 inches, you would only need to line up 4 quarters in a straight row.
2 golf tees
Golf tees are approximately 2 inches in length. So if you have a few golf tees on hand, you can line up two of them to make a gauge of about 4 inches.
If you have more golf tees, you can keep stringing them together to create any length divisible by 2, e.g. B. 6 inch, 8 inch, 10 inch and so on.
An average hand
The average person’s hand width is 4 inches. To measure the width of your hand, you can go from the knuckle of your index finger to the knuckle of your pinky, or measure directly across your palm at the widest point, but don’t include your thumb.
If you are known to have small or large hands then you are not the best candidate for using hands as a comparison for a 4 inch measurement and instead you might consider borrowing the hand of a family member or friend who does this tut is near.
The best way to judge whether a person has average-sized hands is by their height. People with an average height, which is around 5.5 feet, have average-sized hands. You can also use thumbs to measure lengths if you find that easier.
The average person’s thumb is an inch long, so you can slide your thumb along the edge of an object to measure distances in multiples of an inch. For 4 inches, simply repeat the size of your thumb length 4 times.
A business envelope
A business envelope is 4 inches wide and 8 inches long. This means if you want to get an accurate 4 inch measurement, simply look at the narrowest edge of a business envelope or fold the envelope in half and you will have a perfect square measuring 4 inches along each side.

Understand picture frame sizes
How to choose the perfect frame and passe-partout combination for your artwork
We created this guide to help you understand how sizes work in the frame world and to clearly explain the options available to you. Online framing can be a bit difficult to get your head around at first, especially if you’ve never done it before. We get a lot of questions about artwork size/frame size, for example: “I have an X-size image, what frame size do I need?”. The answer to that question depends on a thing or two, as we’ll explain below.
To help us help you, which of the following statements is most relevant to you?
1. “I already have (or am in the process of buying) a print/artwork and am seeing if there are frame sizes that will fit.”
2. ‘I want to replace an old frame with a new one’
3. “I’m trying to fill in a certain area of the wall and I’m trying to figure out what frames/sizes fit in that area.”
4. “I already have framed artwork on my wall and need another frame that matches my existing style.”
5. “None of that! I just want a list of picture frame sizes and metric/imperial conversions.
1. “I already have (or am in the process of buying) a print/artwork and am seeing if there are frame sizes that will fit.”
Q: Would you like a border (mount) around your picture?
The first question is do you want a mat (i.e. a frame) around the picture within the frame? Or just a frame?
A mat is simply the specially made cardboard border you often see in framed artwork and photographs that surrounds artwork in frames and can create an attractive visual impact (this is of course subjective). Here is a small example:
In the first image we can see the frame of Nightshade (one of our mount color options) surrounding the image. This creates more “breathing space” around the image and removes the image from the frame. Your mat (if you order one) will arrive inside the frame and will have a cutout/opening on the inside to fit your picture size – the cutout we send you is slightly smaller (3mm) on each side. (left, right, top and bottom) to help you align the image to the crop. If you haven’t printed your image yet, try our special custom print and frame page.
In the second picture, the picture is framed without a passe-partout frame, i. H. the picture went straight into the frame. Generally this is a more popular choice when framing larger posters as opposed to smaller artworks, but again this is entirely subjective and depends on personal preference.

How do mounts affect the size of the frame?
If you have (as shown in the example image above) two prints that are both the same size and you want one of them to be mounted in a frame and one of them directly into an unmatted frame then the overall size of the frames will be different .
The frame with your print and the passe-partout around it will be larger overall. This is because you have to consider the size of the print + the mat border all around your print + the frame itself. This would provide a larger outside dimension (or wall space) than simply “your print + the width of the frame around your print”.
How does this affect the way I select frames?
We offer frames that come in pre-made sizes, as well as the ability to create your own custom sized frames and mounts. So which option is the best? Let’s look at the following scenarios:
“I don’t want a mat – I want the picture to fit right into a frame.”
In this scenario, you need to find out whether you have a standard size image or not. If your picture is a standard size, you can purchase a ready-made frame that will fit your picture perfectly.
If your picture is an unusual or non-standard size, don’t worry, all you have to do is visit our custom frames page, enter the size of your picture and make sure you select “unmatted, thanks”. choose. Our custom frames are expertly crafted from wood and come in a wide range of colors and styles.
‘Yes, I would like to have a mat around my picture in the frame’
The easiest way to frame your artwork with a mat provided is to go to our dedicated page. You now have the opportunity to play around with the different frame styles and colors on offer, as well as the different colors of mounts available. The Frame tool also lets you resize the mat borders around your image, allowing you to create some incredibly stunning effects.
Be sure to keep in mind the outside size of the custom frame (Wall Area – visible in the Summary section at the bottom of the Custom Frames page), as the larger the frame sizes around your chosen image, the larger it will be outside of the frame will be.
“I would like a passe-partout around my picture, but in a Nielsen frame”
This is essentially the “third option” but still very popular with our customers. It can also be a bit difficult to find your way around for the first time.
First go to our dedicated page to create custom mounts for finished Nielsen frames. Then in step 1 “About your image” you have to enter the size of your image (you can do this in either mm/cm or inches).
Once you have selected the color and style of your mount you will be taken to step 3 ‘Which Nielsen frame do you want?’. Here, our website has automatically set the outer dimensions (i.e. frame size) of your mat to match a finished Nielsen frame size (these sizes refer to the image size that the frames are designed for). It then offers a list of all the pre-built Nielsen frames available for you to mount your current mount in. Remember: the outside size of the mount is the standard size of the Nielsen frame that your custom mount fits into.
As you can see, as you increase the frame size, the borders around your image get larger and vice versa. You can then select a frame of your choice from the available list and add both the frame and mount (and back mount if you prefer) to your basket at once.

Overview of frame types: Custom vs. Ready Made
If you’re still not sure which frame style to choose, take a look at this quick overview below. In general, Nielsen ready-made aluminum frames are ideal when you want a very minimalist (i.e. very narrow frame profile) visual effect, as the fact that they are made of aluminum rather than wood allows for greater stability (e.g. A1 and above) artwork sizes . Custom borders are ideal for non-standard graphic sizes and for situations where you want wider or bolder border styles with more extravagant visual impact. Call us on 0161 449 0044 if you would like to speak to us for further advice.
Custom sized frames
The easiest way to frame artwork online. Simply enter the size of your artwork, then choose your frame style and mount (if you prefer). Our custom frames are crafted from wood and come in a variety of styles including very simple modern black finishes, natural wood styles (including oak) and more. All custom frames come with glazing and wall hardware so you can wall mount the frame as soon as it arrives. Take me to custom frames.
Finished frame by Nielsen
A very popular brand of ready made frames (in standard sizes). These frames generally have very narrow widths that offer a very clean, contemporary look.
If you don’t want a mat around your artwork, take a look at our full list of ready-made Nielsen frame sizes.
If you want your artwork to be mated in a standard size Nielsen frame, you have to keep in mind that the flexibility is less than with custom frames. We’ve actually created a page that allows you to do all of this at once to make things a little easier.
Please also note…
Frame rabbet/lip: The glass/glazing, mat, and image all sit on a lip or “rabbet” within the frame itself (this must be the case or your artwork would simply fall through the front of the frame). This is typically around 5mm. This means that with each frame you always lose about 5mm on each side of the image (or the mount that goes around the outside of your image).
Frame Opening Reduction (Overlap): When ordering a frame with frame, please remember that we reduce the opening (i.e. cut-out) within the frame by 3mm on each side (i.e. 6mm from the overall width and 6mm from the overall height). This makes it much easier to align your artwork to the bezel; If the opening was exactly the same size as your artwork, it would be next to impossible to line it up. For example:
-Input image size: 200 x 300 mm
-Actual opening (i.e. cut out where your artwork will be visible) you will receive: 194 x 294mm.
2. ‘I want to replace an old frame with a new one’
Simply turn the frame over so you can see the back of the frame. Remove any tape that was used to seal the back of the frame, then open it up. To find the right frame size, simply measure the size of the glass inside the frame or alternatively the back panel (they are the same size). This is the frame size you need to order (when we say “frame size” we always refer to the inside size, measured from the back of the frame).

3. “I’m trying to fill in a certain area of the wall and I’m trying to figure out what frames/sizes fit in that area.”
“How do I calculate how much wall space each frame will take up?”
Finished frames:
Make a note of the picture size that the frame in question is designed for (this is always the internal dimension of the frame when looking at the frame from behind and corresponds to the overall size of the glass/acrylic inside) and the frame profile width (can be found in the product page information) . For example:
Nielsen Pearl Matt Black Glass Glazed – 30 x 40 cm image size – Frame profile width (i.e. the width of the frame itself when you are looking at it straight): 9 mm – Image/art work size the frame is designed for: 30 x 40 cm ( 300 x 400 mm) Therefore: the approximate* width of the outer frame (offset from the wall) = 31.8 cm and the approximate height of the outer frame (offset from the wall) = 41.8 cm (simply multiply the width of the frame profile x2 and add this number to the width and height of the frame).
*This wall clearance is actually about 5mm less on each side of the frame, as frames need to slightly overlap the image on each side inside the frame (otherwise glass, artwork and everything else would just fall out forward!) . So you always have a little more space to work in your exhibition space.
Custom Size Frame:
The situation with custom frames/wall space is exactly the same as with premade frames, except you can fine-tune the size of the frame as they are custom made. Our custom frames page will also let you know the outside/wall space your frame will take up on the page summary before you order:
4. “I already have framed artwork on my wall and need another frame that matches my existing style.”
Note the color of the frame you have (and note whether it’s matte or glossy). Measure the profile width of the frame you already have (see diagram here) – measure the depth, ie the measurement from the front of the frame to the wall. Once you have done this please feel free to send us a photo of the frame to [email protected] and we will try to find a suitable one. Our offline selection of frames is much larger than our current online selection.
