Swimming Before and After Laser Tattoo Removal

Swimming before starting laser tattoo removal is perfectly safe, swimming after treatment is a problem. You should wait between 3 and 4 days after each laser tattoo removal session before going swimming.

Swimming immediately after laser tattoo removal is not recommended. After each treatment, you should avoid placing the treated area in water that is too hot or dirty for the first few days. You should avoid hot tubs, pools, lakes, rivers, and oceans as they can harbor germs that can cause infections. You should even avoid bath or shower water that is too hot as it can cause irritation of the treated area.

If you come into contact with dirty water don’t worry too much, just make sure you wash the area thoroughly with soap and clean water and apply ointments and bandages if necessary. If you notice that the area appears to have an infection, be sure to consult a doctor.

You never know what’s floating around in oceans and public pools, so avoiding these as much as possible for the first few days after your sessions is your safest option. It is not recommended to go swimming immediately after laser tattoo removal as the skin in the treated area is still recovering from the laser.

No, ideally the tattoo has been out of the sun for at least six weeks. For laser tattoo removal to work effectively, skin color must be natural and healthy. What about fake tan?

Again, this is not recommended as you could keep coming back for multiple sessions when in fact only half a dozen are required. While we aim to remove tattoos quickly and effectively, our primary concern is your health and well-being. This is more difficult when your skin has absorbed products containing toxins.

Some artificial tans contain activators that react with laser treatment and can lead to skin pigmentation. Therefore, do not use artificial tanning products for at least two weeks before or after the treatment.

Can I go to the sunbed after tattoo removal?

Wait at least four weeks before using a tanning bed after laser treatment. Chances are you’ll need to undergo more laser removal sessions anyway, and exposure to artificial sources of ultraviolet radiation will make the whole process longer and more difficult. It can even cause premature aging on sensitive areas of the skin, potentially looking even worse than the original tattoo.
