How long does a hoverboard battery last?
Hoverboard lithium-ion battery packs generally provide anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour of use before needing to be recharged. This depends on a number of factors including the power of the motor, weather conditions while riding, different wheel sizes, the quality of the battery itself and how long you’ve been using the board. In general, the top hoverboard battery has a total lifespan of one to two years before it needs to be replaced.

Tips for longer hoverboard battery life
Here are some ways to get the most time out of the lithium-ion batteries that come with the most popular hoverboards.
Check the battery before driving
Riders should always quickly check the lithium-ion battery status before taking their board for a spin. When the lithium battery is low, a red light will illuminate next to the battery life indicator. When this light is on, you should connect the charger to the hoverboard and to a power outlet. It’s also possible to charge your self-balancing scooter without a charger if you don’t have access to one. Some hoverboards offer a series of colored lights to indicate a variety of battery status options. Red means a very low battery. Orange means a battery that is below average. Green means it’s charged and ready to use. Also, know your hoverboard’s battery voltage to get a better sense of its capabilities.

Stick to the weight limit
All hoverboards include a recommended maximum weight limit. These maximum weight limits can range from 185 pounds to 300 pounds or more. Although you can still technically ride a board if you exceed the maximum weight limit, it will affect overall battery life. Note: This weight recommendation includes both the rider’s body weight and any items they are carrying.

Use the correct charger
Hoverboard battery chargers come in a variety of styles with different voltage levels and connectors. Boards usually come with a custom-built charger that plays well with the built-in lithium-ion battery, but the same cannot be said for third-party devices. If you buy a third-party battery charger, make sure your hoverboard can use it. Otherwise, the battery life and the overall battery life could be severely affected.
Tip: If you buy a third-party battery charger, make sure your hoverboard can use it
STAT: Most hoverboard batteries can be charged about 500 times before needing replacement.

Why is my hoverboard dying so fast?
A hoverboard battery that won’t retain a charge is the most common symptom of needing a new battery. It is likely that it sat around in a warehouse for awhile before it got to Target, or that the battery was just one of the unlucky bad ones.
Hover-1 Chrome Hoverboard
Follow the steps below to confirm why your hoverboard battery is not working or why your hoverboard is not holding the charge. We’ll help you figure out if your problem is the battery or the charger.
If this page doesn’t solve your problem, we also have a well-organized 35-page hoverboard battery “ultimate guide” that touches on every hoverboard battery issue we know.
How to test if your hoverboard battery needs replacing
Plug your hoverboard charger into the outlet. The light on the charger should be green. Connect the hoverboard charger to the hoverboard itself, making sure to properly align the 3 pins on the end with the divot. If your hoverboard’s battery is working properly, the light on the charger should be red. That red light means your hoverboard battery is charging and your problem lies elsewhere. If the light on your charger does not turn red but the charger light stays green then your battery is either 100% full or you have a defective hoverboard battery and it needs to be replaced. To determine if your hoverboard is full or empty, first unplug the charger from the hoverboard. After unplugging, turn on the hoverboard. A) If your hoverboard turns on (after full charging time) and has a red flashing light in the middle, your hoverboard battery is defective and you need to buy a new hoverboard battery. B) If your hoverboard won’t turn on at all, you either need to buy a new hoverboard battery or your motherboard may be defective. C) If your hoverboard turns on and drives for hours, your hoverboard battery does not need to be replaced.
How do I fix a dead hoverboard battery?
Unfortunately, a non-working hoverboard battery cannot be repaired by a normal consumer, but it is replaceable!
Some of you who just bought a hoverboard are probably wondering why your hoverboard battery is not charging. We hear it pretty much all the time, “but my hoverboard is new, it keeps dying! I just opened it yesterday!” This is true even when a hoverboard is new but keeps dying.
The problem is not with you, but with the original seller of the hoverboard. Businesses are often sitting on thousands upon thousands of unsold hoverboards. This was especially true in 2016 when Amazon and eBay stopped selling hoverboards on their marketplaces. Sellers who only sold hoverboards on Amazon and eBay had nowhere to sell, so their inventory just sat there while the batteries in the hoverboards slowly drained from not being charged.
So the bad news is that if this story sounds all too familiar and describes you, you probably won’t get a response from the company that sold you the hoverboard (and good luck getting a battery replacement from them).
The good news is that you can replace a hoverboard battery with a brand new one from StreetSaw and your hoverboard will work as it was originally supposed to.
Where can I buy a new hoverboard battery?
Simple hoverboard battery
There are different types of hoverboard batteries to buy. However, for all their differences, almost all are some sort of ordeal that will suit most. The most common hoverboard battery replacement for the 2015 and 2016 models is a blue shrink-wrapped battery. This is also sometimes gray or even green.
The blue shrink-wrapped battery is a basic battery that was included in almost all makes and models of hoverboards in 2015. The gray and green batteries were also from the same period, but were much less popular battery models at the time.

Certified hoverboard battery
In 2016, major websites like Amazon and eBay stopped selling hoverboards after it was revealed that hoverboard batteries had caught fire. Professional safety standardization and compliance testing companies developed methods that could be used to build new hoverboard batteries.
These new and improved batteries almost always come in a thick black plastic case (never metal as it is conductive). The batteries should be equipped with upgraded thermal sensor circuit boards to prevent overheating and fires. Almost all of these batteries are exclusively black in color.

customer questions
Q. My son’s hoverboard isn’t even a month old (we got it from Target but annoyingly I didn’t get any warranty whatsoever, my fault) but it just stopped working and when you plug it in the charger stays green but the hoverboard won’t turn on at all. I think it needs a new battery? It has the 36v 2.0ah lithium ion battery and I was just trying to figure out which battery I should remove from your site as it seems you don’t have that exact one? He has the Rouge Jetson Hoverboard. Thanks very much!
A. Yes, it sounds like you did your homework! A hoverboard battery not retaining a charge is the most common symptom of needing a new battery. It’s likely that it sat around in a warehouse for a while before arriving at Target, or that the battery was just one of the unfortunate bad ones. You are welcome to order a replacement hoverboard battery from us; our 36v 2.5Ah should work, or we also have a 36v 4.4Ah (bigger, lasts longer). Please compare the size and shape of our batteries to the ones you already have to make sure they fit. You are also welcome to send us a picture of the battery via email or our live chat and we will tell you which battery is working to replace the battery that is not holding its charge.

The most affordable hoverboard on our list, the XPRIT Hoverboard gives you the most value without sacrificing premium features like a wireless Bluetooth speaker and LED lights. Pros The cheapest option on our list
Super lightweight design for easier carrying
Available in multiple colors Disadvantages Long loading time
Shortest battery life (aka run time) on the list
Short 90 Day Limited Warranty
The XPRIT Hoverboard with Bluetooth is consistently affordable, making it the best value option of the other hoverboards on our list. Despite the low price, the XPRIT doesn’t sacrifice too many features to save you some money. It still offers a relatively fast 7 MPH speed and plenty of “fun” features for kids like colorful lights on the wheels and a built-in Bluetooth speaker.
Unfortunately, the XPRIT is the worst on the list when it comes to battery life at just 1.25 hours. However, this short battery life is to be expected at such a low price. Unfortunately, if you opt for a budget model, the term will let you down. However, this disappointing feature is offset by the variety of colors and designs that the XPRIT offers, each of which boasts impressive non-slip foot pads and durable construction. It is the best hoverboard for kids.

Although all of the hoverboards on our list have some form of balancing capacity, they don’t perform as well as this product. You also get a little more heat and fire resistance than many other hoverboards. Although all of the boards on our list are safe, if you’re still concerned about accidental overheating and fires, this added protection can help you feel more secure.
You also get LED lights that flash to the beat of the music playing through the built-in Bluetooth speakers. Unfortunately, you can’t even turn off the LED lights to save batteries, so watch your battery life during use. Like the top pick on our list, however, this tomoloo boasts an impressive 4-hour battery life, quick charge time, and a top speed of 7.5 mph. #4 Gyroor Warrior
WHY WE LIKE IT:
The Gyroor Warrior was developed for off-road use with its large 8.5 inch wheels and its particularly robust construction. If you’re looking for a hoverboard that’s tougher than most and built to handle any terrain, look no further than the Gyroor Warrior. With massive 8.5″ wheels and self-leveling ability, this hoverboard can take a hit better than any other board on our list. It’s also the fastest on our list (and one of the fastest hoverboards out there), with a top speed of nearly 10 mph. Granted, that’s not super fast, but it’s a decent speed limit that’s not too slow or too strong.
Gyroor claims its design is inspired by Formula 1 racing cars. While these features are certainly impressive, know that they come at a price. This hoverboard is the most expensive on our list, with prices well over $200 at the time of our review. Of course, that price is worth it to get the off-road capability, solid shocks, and overall durability that the product offers. And with a 1-year warranty to protect you against defects, your purchase is protected well enough. You might also like the list of the best electric scooters.
#5 Swagboard Twist T881
WHY WE LIKE IT:
There are many Swagtron hoverboards on the market today, like the popular Swagtron T1, but the Swagboard Twist T881 stands out from the rest with its interesting approach to battery and performance. Instead of a lithium-ion battery, this hoverboard uses a lead-acid battery, which is the safer and longer-lasting option. This is our pick for the best budget and longest-lasting battery.
Read the full review: Swagboard Twist T881
Advantages Lead-acid battery pack instead of lithium-ion battery pack
Can handle 30 degree inclines
Very helpful and knowledgeable customer support. Disadvantages Too simple design
Heavier than most hoverboards
Some users report constant beeping during use
The Swagboard Twist T881 is perhaps the most unique board on our list due to its lead-acid battery pack instead of a lithium-ion battery. If you are not aware, early hoverboards were plagued by battery fires and explosions. The lead-acid battery does not have the same problems as the lithium batteries. If you’re worried about battery issues, this hoverboard is a good choice. Unfortunately, if you encounter any defects with this unique design, you only have 90 days to request a warranty replacement, the shortest warranty on our list. Until then, however, you can always call customer service who will be happy to help you with any problems.
However, there are some disadvantages of a lead-acid battery. Mainly, it’s a lot heavier than Lithium-Ion, making this hoverboard heavier than most options on our list at 23 pounds. The board itself is simply designed, with no LED lights or Bluetooth speakers that you can find with other options. It also boasts a top speed of 7mph, which is impressively fast considering its otherwise simple design. Or are you looking for the best motorized electric scooter for kids?
#6 Swagtron T580
WHY WE LIKE IT:
Benefits Bluetooth enabled
Comes with app
Quiet ride Disadvantages Low top speed
Low range
Mid-range performance
The Swagtron T580 is a great mid-range model from Swagtron. It’s the best value for money and best for hills. While it’s not the best out there, it includes some very helpful features like the fact that it’s Bluetooth hoverboard ready so you can change modes, check battery, access maps and play music. The maximum speed is only 12 km/h, but with its 150 W twin motors it can climb slopes of up to 30°.
This Swagtron T580 model features 3 modes and travels up to 8 miles per charge, with a maximum weight load (aka carrying capacity) of 220lbs. 6.5 inch hard rubber tires ensure a smooth ride. Their loading time is 90-100 minutes. A single/full charge gives a maximum range of 8 miles. It also comes with an app compatible with both iPhone and Android. There is a reason this model is being sold. The Swagtron T580 is a great mid-range model that offers the features that most users want at a great price. It is fundamentally different from the best foldable mobility scooters. Or even the best electric unicycle.

WHY WE LIKE IT:
The Segway Minipro Self-Balancing Personal Transport is the best all-around hoverboard for those who are inexperienced in driving personal transport. Customers are reporting issues with some units not charging properly
It’s UL 2272 compliant, has a lithium-ion battery, and has an IP54 rating, so it’s waterproof. The device is lightweight and the large 10.5 tires ensure a smooth and satisfying driving experience, which also means it absorbs shocks well. The steering column that extends out from the center of the Segway miniPRO is padded with a pair of knee pads. The adjustable LED lights ensure visibility and safety at night.
The Segway Minipro Self-Balancing Personal Transport has a top speed of 10 MPH and a range of 14 miles. The powerful 800 watt electric motors complete the whole thing. It also has 3 driving modes and a mobile app that offers tutorials and an anti-theft device, and also works as a remote control. This is a solid hoverboard, especially for the inexperienced. To steer, you gently lean one knee or the other into the steering column. It doesn’t have the power of the best gas powered scooters, but hey, this is a hoverboard.
As we have decided
Finding the best hoverboard can be intimidating, especially if you’ve never used one and all you’ve heard about them is how they explode during use. This is where we come in to help you. During our extensive research and testing of a large number of boards, we’ve only included hoverboards that are safe to use.
Every product on our list has been certified to UL-2272 for safety standards. You should never buy uncertified hoverboards. If safety is your top priority (as it should be), make sure you only consider certified options that comply with the appropriate regulations. We didn’t include any boards that went slower than 7mph, although there are plenty of those if you need something slower when you start learning. Finally, we only considered hoverboards tough enough to withstand the occasional bump and scrape. Hitting something with your hoverboard is inevitable, but that doesn’t mean you have to worry about a minor crash destroying your new toy. If you want a different way of electric travel, also take a look at one of the best Segways.
Hoverboards Buying Guide
The main features to consider
Safety Rating – Your number one concern when buying a new hoverboard is safety. A few years ago, hoverboards were known to catch fire and since then the industry has taken the blame and made them a lot safer. With all the efforts to get hoverboards safety certified, finding fire alerts would be difficult today. First and foremost, look for the UL 2272 certification on any hoverboard you buy. UL certified means it has passed all safety tests and has all the safety features you need for hassle-free driving. Proper Tire Size – Tire size is another important consideration when it comes to self-balancing scooters. They come in a variety of sizes. Some are smaller and some larger. Tire size affects not only the stability of the ride, but also where you can go with it and what terrain it is suitable for. If you just want to surf the neighborhood sidewalk, smaller tires will do. When you want to do more and go “off-road,” you want bigger tires that can handle more types of terrain better. Battery Life/Charging Time – Longer battery life is good, but it’s not everything. For example, what is better is a long battery life when your hoverboard only travels 5 MPH. You want to balance a long-lasting battery with speed, performance, and charge time. Look for long battery life that supports impressive runtime and battery indicators in a model that also delivers the speed you want. Some boards are also equipped with an intelligent battery management system that monitors and protects the battery. Mobile Application – Going for a hoverboard with a dedicated mobile application is also a good decision. The mobile application can in some ways be the best feature of the hoverboard that allows you to control the device, check diagnostics, update firmware, customize blinking lights, adjust speed and turn on anti-theft alarm. Range – Along with battery life and charge times, one of the most important considerations is the range your hoverboard will deliver on a single charge. Look for the assortment you can get to get the most out of your purchase. A large range with short loading times means fewer waiting times and more contact points. A suitable range is 9-12 miles. Durable, Lightweight Construction – As with any other vehicle, one of your primary concerns should be excellent build quality. You want a strong and sturdy frame that will last. Some models even offer scratch-resistant materials. Choosing a strong and solid electric scooter or hoverboard means it will last longer. A good choice is aluminum alloy. Aluminum alloy is very tough and a suitable material for the body. Another option is carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is one of the lightest and most durable materials known to man. In addition to a solid construction, you also want a lightweight device. A lighter electric hoverboard generally means more speed and better battery capacity. It also makes for a smoother ride. Motor – Of course, the more powerful the electric motors, the more your hoverboard can deliver. A 250 watt motor is fine, but a dual motor of 250 watts each will give you a lot more power. This can mean more speed and better performance overall. The bigger the engine, the better. Weight Capacity/Carrying Capacity – The maximum weight your hoverboard can handle before performance suffers is also an important consideration. Most hoverboards have a weight limit of either 165 pounds or 225 pounds and on a hoverboard your body weight is used to control the movement. So before you buy, find out what the maximum weight is so you won’t be disappointed if you go over that limit. Ease of Use – Most hoverboards only require you to use your feet to control the device. However, there are some options that include knee controls, like the Segway miniPRO. We didn’t include such options in our list because we found them more difficult to control for kids and beginners. Instead, look for hoverboards that offer different riding modes, such as training modes. These different learning modes make boards easy to ride for adults, kids and beginners.
frequently asked Questions
Some of the most common hoverboard questions answered
Is there a guarantee when buying a hoverboard?
It’s a great idea to buy a hoverboard that comes with a 1 year or longer warranty. Just in case you get a broken part, bad battery or it just stopped working. A guarantee is a great idea and protects your investment. All of our top picks are guaranteed for at least 1 year. Another feature to look out for is customer support. Look for models that offer a 24-hour response time and free lifetime technical support. Models with a one-year warranty are great, but if you can’t reach anyone and the email response time is several weeks, you can look elsewhere.
Are Bluetooth speakers and apps important to you?
Many hoverboards come with Bluetooth speakers with stereo surround sound so you can easily listen to your music on the go. Is this a feature you want? If not, you can save some money by avoiding models with such extras. Chances are, you can enjoy surround sound better in the comfort of your home theater than on the go. The same applies to models that contain apps for your smartphone. These apps can add some really nice features, like surround sound music control, remote control, and more, but if you’re not interested, look for models without these features to save money.
How much does a hoverboard cost?
In general, hoverboards can range in price from $100 to $700. In our research, we found that you can skip both the $100 price point and the $700 price point. The sweet spot for hoverboards with quality features is in the $200-$600 price range. The price of your hoverboard purchase will depend on what features you are looking for. More features and high-end specs will cost you more.
How do you ride a hoverboard?
First of all, hoverboards don’t actually float. At least not in 2020. But they’re still fun and you might be wondering how you actually drive one. We can help with that too. Step onto the device with one foot first. Then step on the other foot and place your feet as far apart as is comfortable. This gives you the best posture to control your hoverboard. standing normally. To get started, lean forward or gently shift your weight forward. Make only small weight shifts. To turn, simply lean the appropriate foot forward. Those are the basics and it really is that simple. Whether it’s a Segway, a self-balancing scooter, or a hoverboard, they all work the same.
What is a gyroscope on a hoverboard?
By standard definition, a gyroscope is a spinning wheel or disk. With this wheel, the axis of rotation is free to move in any direction and orientation. During a movement, the axis of rotation remains unaffected, regardless of whether the entire device is moved or tilted.
What happens if you charge your hoverboard too long?
Meaning you will be overcharging your best Hoverboard scooter by four to five hours which can lead to burning out the battery meaning, it will not be as efficient and may need to charge more often and for longer.
Hover-1 Chrome Hoverboard
Well, our answer is NO. It’s not worth charging overnight as all of our hoverboards take an estimated two to three hours to charge, which is the average person sleeping six to eight hours. That means you’re overcharging your best hoverboard scooter by four to five hours, which can burn out the battery, meaning it’s not as efficient and may need to be charged more often and for longer.
We recommend charging the hoverboard scooter throughout the day when not in use. Times like breakfast and dinner times or even at night but before you go to sleep. A great way to avoid this without remembering to charge or when to put it on or take it off is to invest in a timed electrical charger/plug where you can add a timed charge. This is perfect for keeping an eye on the charging time of your products while not allowing your hoverboard scooter product to exceed the allotted and recommended charging time. We recommend charging and keeping an eye on the hoverboard in a wide area.

The alleged problem affects New High-Tech Enterprise Company Inc.’s X1-5 hoverboard. According to the CPSC, the lithium-ion batteries can overheat and pose a fire hazard, resulting in injury, smoke inhalation, or death.
CPSC claims to have at least one report of the hoverboard overheating and smoking.
The agency says it asked New High-Tech Enterprise Company to perform a recall, but claims the company refused.
“As such, CPSC is currently warning consumers against charging or using X1-5 hoverboards,” the agency said in a statement.
TEGNA has asked the company for an explanation.
The hoverboards were sold on nhthoverboard.com, Amazon.com and www.ewheelsusa.com/hoverboard. According to the CPSC, a white label on the bottom of the hoverboard reads: “Model: X1-5” and “Product Name: Balance Scooter”. A holographic UL label is also located on the bottom of the hoverboard.

Batteries that came with more than 200,000 hoverboards sold by major retailers are being recalled because the batteries can overheat, potentially leading to fire or explosion.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the recall affects lithium-ion GLW battery packs in the Hovertrax 2.0 self-balancing scooter/hoverboard. About 237,000 units are affected.
According to the CPSC, there have been more than 20 incidents of battery pack overheating, including some reports of smoke or fire. No one was injured in these reports.
The hoverboards, which have Hovertrax 2.0 on the front, sold for about $460 at Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Amazon.com, and other stores and websites from September 2016 through 2018.
Here is a description of the product and what to look out for, according to the CPSC.
“This recall affects the GLW replaceable battery packs installed in UL-listed brand Hovertrax 2.0 self-balancing scooters/hoverboards manufactured between September 2016 and August 2017. GLW battery packs are UL certified to conform to ANSI/UL Standard 2271 two wheels at either end of articulated dual platforms and are powered by GLW battery packs. The battery packs bear the name GLW in large letters on the packs themselves. The battery packs have serial numbers beginning with GLW, which is printed on a white sticker on the top of the battery pack, below the bar code. Hovertrax 2.0 is printed on the front of the hoverboard.”
Owners should stop using the hoverboards immediately and contact Razor regarding the recall. The company will provide a prepaid shipping carton to return the battery and provide a replacement.

Are hoverboards worth buying?
Hoverboards are a bit pricey, but they are well worth the money if you take everything into consideration before purchasing. We guarantee if you purchase one for your child, you’ll end up stealing it for a bit of your own fun.
Hover-1 Chrome Hoverboard
Thinking about getting a hoverboard? There are a few things to consider when choosing the perfect model. Here are 12 things you need to know before buying a hoverboard.
Before you ask, no: you’re not going to be the next Marty McFly. But even the hero of Back to the Future would have loved the hoverboards that are coming out today.
You’ve probably seen kids zooming in on it, and chances are if you’re reading this that you or your child would want one. Finally, users can drive around effortlessly to get from point A to point B. What’s not to love?
But these gadgets are expensive and you are not sure which hoverboard to buy.
However, if you keep these 12 points in mind, it’s the perfect complement for you or your kids in everyday leisure activities and commuting fun.
And let’s be honest: they look really cool.
What are these things?
Particularly safety-conscious parents may imagine their offspring dashing around, hovering a few meters off the ground and laughing madly. In reality, the hoverboard is a fantastic mix of technology and wheels.
These devices have two wheels and are self-propelled. Think of them as electronic skateboards because they really are (except way cooler).
A platform between the two wheels allows the user to stand on the board, which incidentally balances itself.
So don’t be stunned the next time you see these youngsters on the street, hands in pockets, dashing down the sidewalk. If it seems like they don’t have to work to balance and move, it’s because they don’t.
How do you work?
There are four main components that allow a hoverboard to function:
A gyroscope
microprocessors
A battery
an engine
The gyroscope helps keep balance by adjusting the tilt of the hoverboard. The motor also helps with balance by providing power to the wheels and allowing the board to go forward or backward.
Microprocessors are responsible for regulating the power delivery to the wheels and the battery stores the electrical energy needed to keep the scooter doing its thing.
All of these elements work together to allow the user to balance on the hoverboard as it moves. To change direction, riders simply adjust their feet. Putting the weight forward makes the electric scooter go forward while you put the weight on the heels to go backwards.
Turning is accomplished by pushing the weight forward on one foot and back on the other.
12 things to consider before buying a hoverboard
Hoverboards are a bit pricey, but they’re worth the money if you consider everything before you buy. We guarantee if you buy one for your kid, you’ll end up stealing it for some fun.
1. UL certification
First and foremost we need to talk about security. Because zooming in at 10 miles per hour on an electronic device that’s charged with a lithium-ion battery can be a bit risky. Therefore, hoverboards are not intended for use by children.
You may have heard horror stories of these devices exploding due to the battery inside. It’s possible, but very unlikely..
Lithium-ion batteries have also proved problematic in other devices such as e-cigarettes and smart luggage. The CPSC states that there is no guarantee that these devices are 100% secure. However, parents and users can take several steps to prevent fires or malfunctions:
Only buy hoverboards that are UL certified. Buyers can find the certification on the product packaging.
Do not charge hoverboards unattended.
Keep the hoverboard away from flammable objects.
Use only the chargers sold with the hoverboard.
If you bought a hoverboard before January 29, 2016, it does not comply with the new regulations.
ALL GOTRAX HOVERBOARDS ARE UL2272 CERTIFIED!
2. Types of Hoverboards
The next important consideration is what type of model to buy. There are hundreds of models to choose from and potential buyers may feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices.
In general, hoverboards are made using the same basic concept, but some characteristics may vary. The main things to keep in mind when comparing models are battery performance, speed, materials, and internal motors. Each of these will have impressive effects on the functionality of the hoverboard.
The battery is particularly important, so always check the specifications. It determines how long your hovercraft can carry you. Some can keep a good pace for an hour, while others can last up to three hours.
The 3 main types are
Classic – Like the Remix below, this one features the classic 6.5” wheels and body style without a Smart Balance mode. He uses a gyroscope to move and keep the rider upright. Off-Road – The E3 and Infinity Pro below are an example of an all-terrain hoverboard. These hoverboards feature larger 8-inch wheels and 350-watt motors. They can handle almost anything you throw at them and are better suited to heavier riders. Self-Balance – The Edge is a true self-balancing hoverboard. It features a self-balancing mode that keeps the board perfectly on the ground with or without a rider. It uses its internal gyroscope to compensate for any tilt
What does a blinking orange light mean on a hoverboard?
If the hoverboard turns on and you get a flashing orange battery indicator on the hoverboard, your battery is bad and needs to be replaced.
Hover-1 Chrome Hoverboard
Here’s what you can do to figure out which part is bad:
– Plug your charger into the wall and make sure the green indicator is on the charging box before plugging it into the hoverboard. Now connect your charger to the hoverboard.
1. If the green indicator on the charging box disappears, your internal circuitry is defective and needs to be replaced with one of our kits. The best way is to unscrew the case back and email us a picture of the inside to [email protected] or just send it to us for repair.
2. When the green indicator light on the charging box stays green, turn on the hoverboard while the charger is still connected. If the hoverboard turns on and you see a blinking orange battery indicator on the hoverboard, your battery is bad and needs to be replaced. You can either send it to us for repair. You can also search for a Samsung battery on Google, buy one, and easily replace it yourself.
3. When the green indicator light on the charging box stays green, turn on the hoverboard while the charger is still connected. If the hoverboard won’t turn on, it could mean the charging port is damaged or disconnected. You can unscrew and remove the bottom of the hoverboard and inspect the charging port wires for faults and make sure it is plugged in properly. If the charging port is broken or cables are missing, you can buy them here. If a new charging port doesn’t fix your problem, you need one of our repair kits. What is the weight limit on a hoverboard?
Hoverboards with a wheel size of 6.5-inches can typically handle up to 220 pounds, so they are great for teenagers and average-sized adults. Hoverboards with a wheel size of 8.5-inches, however, can often handle weights up to 300 pounds or more, making them ideal for just about everyone.
Hover-1 Chrome Hoverboard
What is the weight limit for hoverboards?
This depends entirely on the make and model of your hoverboard and whether it was primarily intended for use by children, adults, or both. The maximum weight limit of a hoverboard can range from 120 pounds to 300 pounds or more. There are a whole lot of factors to consider when trying to figure out the maximum weight of a particular hoverboard scooter.
purpose of use
There are a variety of hoverboards, each designed for a different purpose. Children’s hoverboards generally have a below-average maximum weight capacity, around 150 to 180 pounds. Higher-end hoverboards for adult riders can often hold weights of up to 265 pounds, and in some cases even a little more. The average maximum weight for hoverboards is around 220 pounds. During our research, we only found a few models that are rated for riders up to 300 pounds.
wheel size
The size of the wheels can significantly affect the maximum weight limit. Hoverboards with a 4.5 inch wheel size can typically carry up to 120 pounds, making them ideal for younger children. Hoverboards with a 6.5 inch wheel size can typically handle up to 220 pounds, making them great for teens and average sized adults. However, hoverboards with an 8.5 inch wheel size can often handle weights of up to 300 pounds or more, making them ideal for almost everyone. There are also hoverboards with 10 inch wheels, but these are usually found in professional settings.
price matters
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly hoverboard, be sure to check out the maximum weight capacity. Cheaper hoverboards are often made with cheaper components and therefore typically support lower maximum weights than high-performance hoverboards.
Minimum Weight Limits
Hoverboards also generally propose a minimum weight limit in addition to the maximum weight limit mentioned above. This is to ensure that young children, including infants, do not ride the hoverboard and get involved in an accident. Typically, hoverboards have a minimum weight limit of around 44 pounds. This ensures that children under the age of five cannot ride the hoverboard as their tiny frames are not even able to activate the self-balancing mechanism. Otherwise, hoverboards are a fantastic option for kids.
What are the purposes of the weight limit?
There are a number of reasons manufacturers set weight limits for the best hoverboards and self-balancing scooters.
Early malfunctions
While exceeding your hoverboard’s weight limit will not result in instant destruction, it can severely impact the overall lifespan of the device. Regularly exceeding the manufacturer’s maximum weight capacity by 15 pounds or more can lead to a number of malfunctions after a few months of use.
wear and tear
Many of the hoverboard’s internal and external components can be damaged if the weight limit is regularly exceeded. This can include the ABS plastic or polycarbonate housing, wheels, brackets, wheel axles and even screws. The axle can even become loose over time, which can lead to wheel loss.
security risks
It should come as no surprise that regularly exceeding the recommended weight limit of a hoverboard poses a safety hazard. These scooters work via self-balancing mechanisms, so the controls can become unbalanced if the weight limit is exceeded. Also, the hoverboard can actually break while you’re on it, which can result in serious injury.
tips
Read the fine print
Before purchasing a hoverboard, be sure to read all of the documentation on the manufacturer’s website or the Amazon site to ensure you are under the maximum weight limit and over the minimum weight limit. This will save you a lot of hassle.
wheel size
The wheel size of a hoverboard can greatly affect the overall weight limit of a hoverboard. In general, smaller wheel sizes can carry lighter weights, while larger wheel sizes can carry heavier weights.
Something over the limit
If you’re just slightly over the limit, two to three pounds, the hoverboard should still perform within relatively normal parameters. Battery life and top speed could be slightly impacted, but you shouldn’t risk breaking anything.
Study the specifications
In addition to wheel size and load capacity, also look at the rest of the specifications. This will let you know how fast the hoverboard can go and how long it will take to reach that top speed. These metrics can impact parents trying to decide if a hoverboard is the right purchase for their child.
warnings
share hoverboards
Due to the wide range of weight restrictions available on different makes and models of hoverboards, we would exercise caution when renting or sharing your hoverboard. This is a significant problem when an adult is sharing with a child and vice versa. Of course it’s more fun to ride with other people anyway.
Don’t forget your things
When you include your weight, don’t forget to include things about your actual person. This includes backpacks, clothing, laptops and similar items. Hoverboards were not built to carry heavy objects and equipment.
security
One of the main reasons to stick to the manufacturer recommended weight limit is safety. Exceeding the maximum weight of a hoverboard on a regular basis can result in damage to the internal components, which can later cause an accident.
Battery life
Exceeding the weight limit by even a pound or two can affect your hoverboard’s overall battery life and the longevity of the hoverboard’s onboard lithium-ion battery pack. As a result, your battery may run out in less time than usual. So keep this in mind when planning longer-than-average journeys.

Is it safe to charge a hoverboard overnight?
A question that has sprung across a lot of our customers minds and a question which we at hoverboard actually get asked a lot. So, can you really charge your hoverboard overnight without burning out the battery or over charging? Well, our answer is NO.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Not only can the Razor Hovertrax 2.0 reach speeds in excess of 8 miles per hour, but it can also achieve a range of 15 miles on one charge. It’s also super easy to use, making it a great choice for kids and beginners.
Pros Super easy to learn and use
Runs silently
Long 15-mile range Cons Lowest battery life on the list
Low weight capacity
Runs hot sometimes
The Razor Hovertrax 2.0 Hoverboard is the successor to the popular Hovertrax 1.5 and has made a variety of improvements along the way. With a top speed of 8+ MPH and a total range of 15 miles on a single charge, this speedy hoverboard is a force to be reckoned with. The longer range is fantastic, allowing you to cover longer distances, but the battery level and charging system could definitely be better. Unfortunately, you only get about 60 minutes of charging before having to plug the device back in to charge. However, during our testing we found that the Hovertrax 2.0’s other features offered more than makeup for it. If you want to compare this to a Segway, check out one of the best Segways on the market.
With a quick charge time of around 2 hours, you can always extend your ride with minimal fuss or wait, which is welcome compared to the average 4-5 hour charge times you typically see with hoverboards. We wish we could see more self balancing scooters with this handy option. We were also very impressed with how quiet the Razor Hoverboard is in operation. If we weren’t on the board, we probably wouldn’t notice it moving at all. The long range along with a quieter, more restrained driving noise is a great combination for someone looking for a faster yet quiet commute. Ultimately, the Razor is fast and super easy to use, making it the best choice for beginners and kids who want to go fast. Read more about the best electric scooter to try another great ride.
Fastest Hoverboard Buyer’s Guide √ Be Safe First Safety standards should always come first. All of the hoverboards in our guide have UL 2272 fire rating certification, so have undergone testing to ensure they do not pose a fire hazard. These rigorous electrical and safety tests give consumers peace of mind when purchasing these products for themselves or their loved ones. Any hoverboard with this certification is safe to ride and you can rely on it. √ Battery life matters You want to choose the best battery life you can find, but battery life must be weighed against other considerations. Great battery life means nothing if your hoverboard only has a top speed of 5 MPH. Choose a battery life that makes sense for your lifestyle. If you only drive around your neighborhood, you might be okay with a battery life of as little as 2 hours paired with a short or medium range. But if you drive longer distances, you want a good battery life with a long range and a short charging time. Definitely consider the real-time charging estimates for these hoverboard products before making a big purchase. To further prepare for long journeys or emergencies so you’re not left stranded with a dead battery system, look to products that come with an extra battery pack for extra safety measures in case something unexpected happens. Also, be prepared for bad weather forecasts, as not every day has perfect conditions for outdoor driving. √ Quality construction means your hoverboard will last Hoverboards are vehicles and any vehicle you buy should be made with quality. You want a strong and sturdy frame that’s also lightweight. The lighter your hoverboard is, the better it will perform. It will also improve your battery life as it puts less stress on the motor and generally helps with speed. For example, several hoverboards use aluminum alloy frame material around the motor system for lightweight durability and protection. Different wheel widths and sizes suit riders of different interests and skill levels. For racing or competition purposes, you may be interested in a race-friendly design with sport tires. Or if you are looking for a high security product with stable product dimensions and overall robust hoverboard design, go for a hoverboard with wide tires and/or larger tires. There are also some hoverboards with a unique navigation mechanism that includes a padded knee bar or knee control bar for a unique design and improved user control. An example of these unique looking hoverboards is the Segway Ninebot S, which is great for your daily commute, with a padded knee bar that gives it a rather unique shape, and for full product details, be sure to check it out online. √ How far do you want to travel? Range is one of the most important things to look for when buying a hoverboard. How far you travel determines how much battery charge you use. Those who travel far want greater range. You also want to make sure the loading times fit your lifestyle. You don’t want to arrive at your destination with a dead battery only to find that it takes 8 hours to charge when you’re ready to go in 4. For example, our #1 is the fastest hoverboard you can buy, but it has an awful range of just 4 miles. In general, pay attention to long ranges and short charging times. When you stay close to home, range is less of an issue. The motor systems of these products all have different performance. So evaluate in real-time what speed and one-charge run distance works best for you and your circumstances. If you need more range than a hoverboard can provide, electric bikes can be another great option. Gyroshoes are another electric powered device for riders who want to have fun or who want to speed up their daily commute. There are also three wheel electric scooters if you appreciate their unique looks and don’t want to worry about balancing. Mistakes to avoid ⊗ Attributes like speed can be very attractive to hoverboard buyers, but don’t just pick the fastest model and hope everything else is perfect. Check out all the features and think about how you will use your hoverboard in your daily life. What features do you need? What can you live without? ⊗ Another pitfall to avoid is the thought that you need a fast hoverboard with all the most powerful features. If you don’t drive at night, you don’t need LED lights. ⊗ You don’t need a hoverboard with Bluetooth if you don’t want to listen to music. This also applies to hoverboards that advertise with a smartphone app. Smartphone apps that act as remote controls are appreciated, but sometimes these apps don’t work at their best, and the manual controls on your board can still be good enough to create a great riding experience with your hoverboard. Assess your needs and budget because while all of these smart features may sound great and inviting, do you really need the smartest hoverboard? Some people do, some don’t. Chances are, you won’t over-need every feature, and by carefully purchasing exactly what you need will save you big bucks.
Some questions to ask yourself when buying the fastest hoverboards
Where will you use your hoverboard?
If you intend to stay on the road, most self-balancing scooters offer a smooth ride regardless of the size of the wheels, but if you want to take it off the beaten path and on different terrain, consider all: All-terrain hoverboards. Definitely check out off-road hoverboards with powerful performance from a powerful motor and solid rubber tires if you are looking for a ride that can read high speeds over rough terrain. Air-filled tires are actually better for rougher terrain, so when you want to take your board off the road. That’s when it becomes important to pay attention to things like wheel size, water resistance, and extra power to get through muddy or grassy terrain. Bigger wheels help traverse more varied terrain. This way you can ride the safest hoverboard and have a comfortable riding experience.
How fast does a hoverboard go?
Expect speeds of between 6 and 15 MPH on most hoverboards. Most users find speeds of 10-12 most comfortable and give them the best ride. One day we might even be able to buy a 20 MPH hoverboard, but not yet. Choose the speed that suits your needs. Most people don’t need the fastest model. Always pay attention to the engine power. A good engine is often synonymous with good speed.

What is the lifetime of a single HOVERBOARDS® and how long does it last?
Durability is a big thing when it comes to today’s gadgets especially considering how expensive things are these days like game consoles, TVs, cars etc. Everything comes with guarantees and warranties. Here at Hoverboard we have a one year warranty on all of our hoverboard products that we sell and with the purchasing power of our amazing customers we are able to offer the best and most competitive price on our hoverboard products.
But back to the main point, normally your hoverboard product should be used for up to three to four years before it eventually runs out, but until then we might recommend buying a new one. Some last longer, it is difficult to give an accurate estimate of this statement as different people use and treat their hoverboard products differently, some damage them which greatly reduces the life expectancy of a self balancing scooter like the hoverboard products we sell online can .
Hoverboard Battery Life
We want the fun to last forever! Unlike regular scooters, which don’t need to be charged, hoverboards need to be charged regularly to keep them in optimal condition and at optimal speeds. Luckily, you’re in luck with the hoverboard’s long battery life. A hoverboard lithium-ion battery lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour per full charge, depending on the model you choose. While it’s not forever, it definitely means longer periods of time to let the good times roll.
In order to achieve this maximum driving pleasure, fully charge the battery before the first ride. Choose a location out of direct sunlight and away from flames or sparks to avoid damaging the battery. When it comes to battery life, the adults are in charge. Make sure kids know the protocol, though, so you can load it up once they’re done for the day. How long does a hoverboard battery last? With good care even longer.
In order to preserve hoverboard battery life, you should consider everything to keep it in good working order. Actual run time per charge depends on various factors such as rider weight, road conditions and battery maintenance. There’s a lot you can do to maintain a battery that keeps you going ride after ride. Follow these tips to keep your hoverboard running as smoothly as possible.
Tips to maintain hoverboard battery life
It’s always smart to practice good habits for any device that needs charging so it lasts longer and performs at its best. The same goes for hoverboard care. It does not require any additional effort, just targeted action.
Check the battery before every ride
Always check the battery charge first before using your hoverboard. When the battery is low, a red indicator light will flash continuously. Go to the green (traffic light) and fully charge it before driving, otherwise it may stop working while driving. Kids may want to push the limits and not wait for a full charge, but they shouldn’t ride it when the indicator lights are orange or red. Failure to charge the battery regularly or forgetting to turn off the power switch may result in the battery not accepting a charge.
Note the recommended weight limit
Second, the weight of the rider is an important factor when considering the battery life users can expect from hoverboards. Maximum weight capacity for Hovertrax models ranges from 176 lbs. Up to 220 lbs. And the more a rider weighs, the more it puts a strain on the hoverboard and the battery. Never exceed the weight limit, including backpacks and other items you can carry. This could put you at risk of injury and damage the hoverboard. As a reminder, ride solo only. Even if your child wants a sidekick or sibling to board, it’s not safe for a number of reasons. Also, you might not get the maximum travel time if it uses more energy to keep it moving.
ride outdoors
Another tip is to ride in open areas where you don’t have to constantly stop and start the hoverboard. This can reduce driving time as it requires extra pull from the battery. Driving in less crowded areas is safer and most exciting to drive without the constraint of other people, animals or obstacles that may get in the way. To extend the hoverboard battery life as much as possible, ride at the same speed that doesn’t require you to slow down or stop. Keep it up!
Charge carefully
Always use the recommended battery charger designed specifically for the hoverboard. Inspect it every time you use it and repair it immediately if necessary. Also note that extreme environments can damage the charger or battery. Keep both at room temperature to avoid complications. If both seem excessively warm, allow them to cool before resuming charging.
Protect the battery life of the hoverboard
If you’re about to buy a hoverboard, make sure you know how to properly care for it before you even bring it home. The battery is the heart of your hoverboard, which means that extra care is needed to keep things moving, quite literally. The way you store, use, and treat your battery (and your hoverboard) makes a difference in how long it lasts. In memory of:
Check your battery before every ride, make it glow green.
Follow the recommended weight limit and understand that heavier weights may result in slightly shorter ride times per load.
Clear the area around you so you can avoid stop-and-go driving.
Keep things cool, but not too cool! Extreme temperatures can ruin your battery, so store it in a safe place where the environment is just right.
A little effort is enough when caring for the hoverboard. By taking the right precautions and extending battery life, hoverboard riders can experience lasting joy that feels at least forever closer. And isn’t that really what life is about? Now that you know what you need to keep your battery life up to scratch, you’re ready to start your next adventure!
