Sleeping With Hair Extensions Hurts. What Should You Do?
Decided to buy a new fancy hair extension? Thinking about sleeping with your hair extensions on? Well, you just need to be well-informed about some do’s and don’ts when it comes to buying a new hair extension that is also bed-ready. It mainly depends on the type of hair extensions you have.
Because it’s important to protect hair to keep it from damage, we’ve put together some tips on how each hair type works.
Halo Hair Extensions
Just like clip-in hair extensions, halo hair extensions are a temporary hair extension method. Sleeping with them is a bad idea. You should take off halo hair extensions or clip-ins before you go to bed!
Keratin Hair Extensions
Keratin bonded hair extensions are popular with women. They are a semi-permanent method, meaning you can wear them for long periods of time without taking them off. Hair strands are attached to your natural hair using a natural hot fusion method. You can sleep peacefully without worrying about them.
Sew in hair extensions
When attaching sew-in hair extensions, hairdressers use a needle and thread to sew strands of hair onto your pre-braided hair. Since this method is also the method of semi-permanent hair extensions, you can sleep with it safely.
Micro Ring Loop Hair Extensions
When applying micro ring hair extensions, hairdressers use pliers to clamp the micro bead to attach hair strands to your natural hair. You can also sleep with this type of hair extensions as it is also the semi-permanent hair extensions method.
Tape in hair extensions
Tape-in hair extensions are a semi-permanent method. You can sleep with them comfortably. The straps are soft and thin, which won’t make you uncomfortable to sleep with. Make sure you have good quality tape that will hold the extension well. A high-quality adhesive tape prevents it from falling or being damaged during sleep. Don’t worry if any part slips off while you sleep. Secure them with new tape.
Here are a few tips to keep your hair looking fresh.
Use a good quality detangling brush
Use a good detangling brush to brush your hair. Hair tends to get tangled after a long day. Investing in the right hairbrush will help you get the job done and ensure knots stay away.
Be gentle with the hair as you detangle it. Start brushing your hair by starting at the ends of your hair and brushing nicely between the hair extensions. This prevents any kind of damage.
braid them
Braiding the hair extensions can be the best way to protect them. Braids keep the hair in one place. Whether you have medium or long hair, loose braids prevent hair from knotting overnight. You can even secure it with a simple ponytail.
This will protect the hair from wrinkles at the end. It also avoids any breakage that is popular with traditional hair ties. A simple and relaxed topknot bun also keeps hair tangle-free, structured and subdued.
Opening the braid in the morning makes brushing much easier, your hair extension will not get tangled.
Satin or silk pillowcase
A satin or silk pillowcase is a valuable accessory to your hair care routine. If you sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase, the friction caused by cotton pillowcases will not roughen the cuticle to the hair shaft.
The satin or silk cloth is known for its smooth texture. This also avoids wrinkles! These are elegant, noble and protect the hair extension. What else do you need?
sleeping caps
Sleeping caps are a great way to protect your extension from damage. Sleeping causes frizz in hair due to friction. Tie your hair in a bun and secure with a clip. Don’t pull your hair tight. Put on your sleepyhead. Choose a nice silk sleepyhead.
silk scarf
If you want to stand up your hair without damaging it, wrap a silk scarf around your hair. Don’t use a cotton scarf, use a silk scarf. Cotton absorbs moisture from the hair, silk does not.
Don’t keep your hair extensions wet
Hair gets tangled easily when wet. It’s going to be a big headache to unravel in the morning. Avoid going to bed with wet hair extensions. Make sure they are completely dry. If not dry, use hair dryer to remove moisture.
Is it advisable to wear a ponytail with hair extensions while sleeping?
If you want to keep your routine simple that doesn’t require extensive styling, a simple ponytail would work, too.
Be sure to comb the hair thoroughly. Remove all knots and tangles before tying them. If the hair is straight, make a low ponytail that is not too tight. Making it tight would put pressure on the binding. Use a hair band made of soft material that will gently hold the hair.
Pampering the hair extensions overnight
While you’re trying on your hair before bed, give it extra nourishment by conditioning it overnight at least once a week. Your hair will be shiny. Avoid keeping it wet. Wet hair extensions damage both your natural hair and the hair extension.
Ways to condition your hair extensions overnight
Whether you wear keratin hair extensions, wefts, micro ring or tape, overnight conditioning with the steps given below can leave the extensions soft and shiny.
Remove knots and tangles to thoroughly brush the hair extensions. Check the ties to see if they need to be unraveled.
Now is the perfect time to apply a conditioner suitable for hair extensions. Insert it at the end and middle of the hair extensions. Avoid applying it to your bindings. Braid your hair extensions or tie a loose ponytail. This keeps the hair away from your face and doesn’t get tangled.
When you wake up in the morning, remove the braids in the morning. Wash the hair extensions to remove the conditioner from the extension. Your hair will feel shinier, healthier and softer.
last words
Sleeping with hair extensions is safe and you shouldn’t worry too much about it. Examine the hair roots for tangles or knots. Whether you use tapes, wefts, pre-bonds, or any other type of extension, you should check your hair extension bindings daily.
With all these remarkable accessories to add to your hair extension night routine, you will feel relaxed. For added safety, use a shower cap when bathing. Choose a cap with an added antibacterial coating that inhibits mold growth and resists moisture by draining water.

What to expect:
There might be a tiny bit of pressure on your scalp after getting your extensions, and it’s most likely from the wefts sewn into the braid in your hair, the clips and tape pressing against your scalp, or the tips that cling to your hair. Do extensions get thicker after you wash them?
While most extensions thicken after washing, you need to understand that the volume depends on the type of extensions. Even more, you need to know how to take care of your hair extensions so you can wear them for a long time.
Sleeping With Hair Extensions Hurts. What Should You Do?
What Makes Hair Extensions Thicker After Washing?
curl pattern
The curl pattern of your extension is largely responsible for whether it will thicken or thin after washing. For example, if you have curly hair extensions, they are likely to thicken due to the nature of the hair. However, with straight hair extensions, there is not much chance of thickening them with water. The curl pattern is usually determined by the original condition of the hair.
hair fiber
The hair fiber plays an important role in determining whether your extensions will thicken or thin after washing. For example, if you have human hair extensions, they tend to thicken due to natural oils and sebum secreted by your scalp. Because natural hair consists of three different layers, the cuticle, the outermost layer, the cortex lying in between and the spinal cord.
Where you bought your hair extensions
There is a significant difference in the quality of hair extensions from different retailers. If you buy super quality human hair or virgin Remy Hair Extensions UK, these are less likely to thin out than low quality synthetic extensions. This is because quality extensions have moisture- and oil-wicking layers that protect hair from constant exposure to water when washing or conditioning.
How to care for your extensions
You need to take good care of your hair extensions to keep them thick and full. For example, don’t use hot tools too often on synthetic extensions, as they melt when exposed to high temperatures. It is also advisable to avoid regular washing of high quality extensions as this can thin the hair. If possible, try to wash your extensions every two weeks at most.
Great tips for caring for your hair extensions
Whether you have short, medium or long hair, hair extensions are always a great way to enhance the look. It adds volume and length to your hair. In order for them to last you need to make sure you know how to take care of them.
Be gentle with the hair
When you comb, wash, or detangle your hair, you need to make sure you’re doing it as gently as possible. Always start at the ends and work your way up like you would with your natural hair.
Always wash them to a minimum
For those who have sewn in hair, you will need to wash your hair as normally as you would. However, people with clip-in extensions are allowed to wash their hair at least once a month. While it may seem like a long time, you need to keep maintenance to a minimum.
Get the right products
Hair care is all about using the right products. You can use mild shampoos and conditioners to keep your hair looking its best. After washing your hair, make sure you dry it with the right items.
Conclusion
Dealing with hair extensions can be a tricky expedition, especially if it’s your first time. While most extensions will thicken after washing, it’s important to understand that volume depends on the type of extension. In addition, you need to know how to take care of your hair extensions so that you can wear them for a long time.
Do hair extensions look better after a few days?
Your extensions will appear slightly thin and poker straight when first put in. After 3 or 4 washes they will puff out, become thicker and blend in with your natural hair.
Sleeping With Hair Extensions Hurts. What Should You Do?
First week: In the first few days of your styling, the extensions will feel a bit tight. This is normal and to be expected. After about 3-5 days it feels completely natural and settles. If after this time any of the beads/tape are causing discomfort, let your stylist know and removing the bead/tape may be a solution.
It’s perfectly normal to lose up to 10 single strand extensions in the first week. (Most people only lose 2 or 3 and some people lose nothing). Don’t worry, this is completely natural and won’t affect the overall look of your style.
Your extensions will appear slightly thin and smooth when they are first fitted. After 3 or 4 washes, they will be puffed up, thicker and blend in with your natural hair.
Brushing: You need to give your extensions a thorough brushing at least once a day. Divide it into layers from below and work your way through each section. This will avoid tangles and tangles
Brush, starting at the ends of your hair, holding each section just above where you are brushing. Work your way up and when you reach the bindings, press your hand down firmly for support.
The right type of brush is extremely important. Always use a brush that is firm but flexible. We recommend using a nylon boar bristle brush. Never use the kind with the “nubs” at the end of the bristles. You will damage your extension hair.
Do not brush harshly or pull on hair extensions as this can loosen and damage the bond that holds them to your scalp.
After a few weeks of wear, tangles/tangles can become common, especially at the back/middle of the head where you can forget to brush through.
To reduce tangling over time, you can slide your fingers through the connections and gently separate them to ensure there are no tangles and hair hasn’t gotten caught.
Washing: Wash your hair once or twice a week. (Use dry shampoo in between if necessary). Always brush out knots before washing.
Use a good quality shampoo and conditioner and make sure it’s protein free, sulfate free and a “normal hair” shampoo.
You want one that gently cleanses your hair without damaging it. Do not buy products for damaged or dry hair. These will over-wet the bindings on your extensions and can cause them to slip.
If you need to wash the top of your hair (parting and forehead area), you can do it every day. The extension hair is not attached at the root so it doesn’t get greasy like your natural hair would. Because it doesn’t stick to the root, there are no natural oils to keep it healthy, so over-washing and over-styling can dry out hair over time.
Avoid circular motions when washing as hair will become tangled. Instead, squeeze the shampoo into the extension hair or wash your natural hair over it and run the shampoo through the extensions. Make sure to shampoo from scalp to root between beads/bindings to keep the scalp clean and bacteria-free.
Rinse thoroughly.
Apply a moisturizing conditioner, avoid using on the scalp as this may cause the beads/bindings to slip off.
Pat dry. Do not rub or twist hair when wet. Dry with a blow dryer on low heat or alternatively let dry naturally.
Use oils and a deep conditioner or mask once a week to keep extensions soft and shiny.
Microrings/Microwebs can be washed immediately after insertion.
Keratin Bonds can be washed 48-72 days after installation. This is important so that no water penetrates the bond, which loosens and falls out
Bed/Styling/Coloring: Before going to bed, you can braid the extension hair into a pigtail or two, or tie it in a bun at the top of your head and secure it with a soft hair tie to keep it from tangling.
Use in conditioners or serums for extra conditioning. Use a heat protectant spray before curling, straightening, etc.
Try to limit straightening and curling with heated products to once or twice a week.
Perms and relaxation are not recommended as they greatly mattify and tangle the extension hair.
We do not recommend coloring or bleaching extensions. Whilst it is safe and many customers do, we cannot guarantee the hair once it has been altered by chemical coloring as the chemicals in the extension hair may not be compatible with the product you are using so this may be the case Damage to the bondings and/or extension hairs.
Swimming/Sunbathing/Exercise: If you are going to swim, comb out any knots beforehand, tie your extensions into a pigtail or tie them in a bun on top of your head and secure with a soft hair tie. Wear a latex swim cap to protect your extensions.
Wash your hair immediately after swimming to remove any harmful chemicals that may have gotten under your swim cap.
For extra conditioning, condition your hair or leave the conditioner in your hair and leave it on for the duration of your swim.
Wear a hat or scarf when sunbathing to keep the sun from drying out your extensions. This also applies to the use of solariums.
When exercising, working out, or exercising your body temperature, tie your hair up and use a headband to prevent your hair from getting tangled and knotted in the heat.
Extension Care and Removal: Your extensions may either be removed or trimmed after 2-4 months, depending on the type of extension you have used, how your natural hair grows, and how well the extensions have been cared for.
You should not attempt to remove the extensions yourself. Your stylist can remove them or tighten them properly without damaging your natural hair.
When you remove your extensions, you’ll find that some of your own hair comes out with it. This is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. People naturally lose about 100 strands of hair every day. Her natural hair was clamped in a bead or band for 2-4 months and could not fall out naturally.
6 months is the recommended maximum time you should wear extensions. It is not advisable to leave them in longer no matter how well you maintain them as this will stress the natural hair from the root.
After a few months you should always give your natural hair a break and then you can have extensions put in again. If you have had renewals for 4 months, you should take a 4 week break. If they have been in 6 months, a 6 week break is recommended.
If your microring extensions fall out, you can keep them and have them reinserted.

What happens if you wash extensions everyday?
Washing Their Hair (Read Tape-Ins) Too Soon
We create our extension tapes using a modified acrylic adhesive that grows stronger over time. If they wash their hair within two days of getting extensions, then they run the risk of making the tape slip or weaken.
Sleeping With Hair Extensions Hurts. What Should You Do?
We don’t want to sound like alarmists, but things can go wrong from time to time. From the second your clients leave your studio to the moment they return, they could inadvertently jeopardize the long-term performance of your practice.
We put together this blog post to give you a helpful resource when it comes time to teach your clients the proper care of their extensions.
#1: Common mistakes your clients make when washing tape-in extensions
Washing hair too early (reading tape-ins).
How long do your customers wait before washing their hair after using your tape-in service? If the response is within 48 hours, we recommend encouraging them to wait a little longer.
We manufacture our extender bands with a modified acrylic adhesive that gets stronger over time. If they wash their hair within two days of extensions, they run the risk of the tape slipping or weakening.
After 48 hours, however, the tape is strong enough to withstand a wash without weakening its bonds.
Instead of this!
Keeping this tape science in mind, we always recommend waiting at least 48 hours after installation before washing your hair. Because all of our tapes use modified acrylic adhesives, this suggestion is good no matter what tape you and your customers use.
Wash too often
Of course, there are other things to consider when your clients wash their extensions. After those 48 hours, we would still advise them not to wash their hair too often. Washing too often can be harsh on the hair, which is all your client’s extensions need to hold on to.
Instead of this!
Require them to only wash their hair twice a week. This will help promote a strong bond between her organic hair and the extensions.
Wash too vigorously
When washing, think of the extra stress your clients may be putting on the extensions. It would be good to teach them to avoid scrubbing the strands where the extensions connect to their hair.
Instead of this!
Remind her to gently wash her hair by massaging sulfate-free shampoo into her scalp, avoiding the tape, then working the shampoo in from the middle to the ends of her hair.
When conditioning, your clients should prevent the product from penetrating the band or roots. Running conditioner under the strands along the length of the hair can ensure chemicals don’t weaken the bond of the tape. Daily conditioners often contain silicone, and silicone can weaken the bond if it gets on the tape.
Or not washing soon enough after being exposed to salt or chlorine
If your clients have exposed their hair to chlorine or salt water, advise them to wash it immediately to ensure the chemicals or salt don’t have time to mix with the glue. Chlorine and salt water can also damage your organic hair and the extensions themselves.
Instead of this!
The best thing your clients can do for extensions while swimming is wear a swim cap.
Enjoy these fixes? Check out another of our posts that walk you through 10 tips for tape-in extensions.
#2: Common drying mistakes your clients make with tape-in extensions
With proper care, the hair on our head is constantly rejuvenating. Hair extensions lack this natural ability. So customers need to take extra care of them to make sure they last as long as possible.
Using heat to dry extensions
Using heat to dry extensions removes excess moisture and causes hair to become dry and brittle much faster.
Instead of this!
Praise your customers for air drying. As it turns out, air is best for our lungs and for our wet hair.
Wrap or squeeze hair in a towel
To dry extensions, your clients should avoid wrapping their head in a towel or flipping their hair upside down. Also, you want your customers to be careful not to squish or pull hair with a towel.
Instead of this!
Talk to them about gently toweling their hair from bottom to top and working with their fingers to gently reduce tangles. Then they should let their hair air dry.
#3: The most common mistake your customers make when tape-in brushing
Brush your hair as you did before lengthening
As you know better than anyone, hair extensions require different brushing techniques than natural hair. In particular, your customers need to be extra careful not to pull on the tape.
Instead of this!
To brush her hair with tape-ins, your client’s hair should be completely dry. Hair is weakest when wet. So if you pull on it or pull a brush through it when it’s wet, it can do a lot of damage.
It may be helpful for your client to use a wide-toothed comb to brush her hair. Then encourage them to hold their hair just under the tape to make sure they don’t pull on the tape itself. It’s best to start brushing at the bottom of her hair and methodically work your way up.
#4: Your client’s wild abandonment can cause common extension errors
Extensions are not protected when sleeping, exercising and storing
Because your clients’ extensions can’t spring back like their organic hair, you need to protect them even beyond what we’ve discussed so far. Additional protection includes at least the following:
Sleep
Work out
storage
For example!
Sleep: A low braid or loose ponytail protects hair from excessive friction.
Sport: A higher ponytail best protects your client’s hair from sweat and oil.
Storage: After removing the extensions, gently wash, air dry and detangle. Then tell your customers to store the extensions flat in an airtight container. You should be able to sit without bending or slouching.
#5: Your clients who wait more than six weeks between appointments are making a mistake
Leave extensions longer than they should
Remind your clients that the tape will stay in the same place on their hair as their hair grows. This means her extensions are slowly traveling down away from her head. While this aspect of hair growth may feel strange after a long time, there is another important reason for them to see you within six weeks.
After six weeks, tape-ins become difficult to remove. This is especially true for Pro-Flex II.
Extension tape gets stronger and stronger, making it harder to remove. Because it takes longer to remove, they end up needing more time in your chair to fix the problem.
Instead of this!
Always ask them to come back to see you within six weeks of an install. This routine ensures the easiest and most convenient renewal experience for you and your clients.

Why do my sew in extensions hurt?
If you are experiencing a scalp pain or soreness that causes discomfort, your sew-in installation wasn’t correct. It was not installed with your scalp and hair care in mind. This can be due to your stylist being solely focused on installing your weave and creating your final look.
Sleeping With Hair Extensions Hurts. What Should You Do?
Sew-in hair extensions are a fantastic way to grow your hair out.
It’s one of the methods I’ve used to grow my hair out when I wanted to start over.
There are so many sew-in styles to choose from. The edgy asymmetrical bob was my trademark for at least six months. Then I had to figure out how to get through the short and choppy, uncomfortably long stage. It was during this period that I developed my love-hate relationship with hair extensions.
Luckily, I was able to use different textures of weave to camouflage my hair, which is at least three different lengths in different areas of my head.
Unfortunately, when I first started wearing woven fabrics, it was the pain of installation that kept me from getting too comfortable with maintaining the sew-in. Stitches are great, but while they’re cute, they can be very painful.
Stitches can be painful
In this article, you’ll learn why sewing in can be such a painful styling method. Don’t worry, you’ll also learn what you can do to prevent pain from occurring during installation. We also have some amazing tips to help you get rid of scalp pain.
First, I would like to start by saying that a tight sewn should not be “treated”. You shouldn’t “suck it up” and it’s “not part of the territory” to get a sewing style. Extremely painful suturing can cause scalp damage, so take it seriously.
If you’ve been conditioned to think it’s no big deal, you might not know what “too tight” means. Here are three signs that your sew-in has been installed too tightly:
Your webbing is too tight if you notice the outer corners of your eyes involuntarily going towards your ears.
If smiling and laughing gives you a headache, it indicates that your tissues are too tight.
If you get up from the barber chair and your head is pounding, your weave is too tight.
You can’t sleep because of the pain
You have been advised to take painkillers for the pain
Are you delicately guided?
tender head? You’ve probably heard the expression from a friend or acquaintance. Well the phrase means exactly what it says, her head is “sensitive” and sensitive to pain.
Those who have tender heads experience more pain than normal when they get their hair done. Because of this, they may find it difficult to get stitches, braids, and other hairstyles due to the pain. Your scalp is extremely sensitive, so even the slightest tug on your hair can feel extremely hurtful.
Here are some signs that you might be being affectionate:
You get headaches when you get new hairstyles
After new hairstyles you have trouble sleeping
Before you get your hair done, take painkillers
Well, while it’s common to be affectionate, it can also have a few causes. Let’s go through the 3 reasons for a tender scalp after stitches.
3 Reasons for a Delicate Sew-In Scalp Post
#1 The braid below
The braid at the bottom, also known as the base of your dart, is essential for a flat dart. Well, this is most likely the number one cause of pain on your scalp.
A flat sew-in is the main reason your bundles look less helmet-like and more like tame curls flowing from your roots. Because your braids are so small and thin, the weft can sit as close to your scalp as possible. This allows them to mimic your real hair, allowing for a more natural look.
Even so, your stylist may pull your hair a little harder than necessary and weave the braids tight to create a flat braid pattern. The sew-in braid gives a literal meaning to the phrase beauty is pain.
The tight braid pattern greatly contributes to the tenderness of your scalp. It can also cause stress bumps and scaly white dry patches around your scalp.
Tension bumps are also painful and can reflect the pain of acne you may be experiencing on your face or during a breakout.
#2 The sewing
Similar to the braid below, your stylist will also try to make sure your traces are secure.
Since the average sew-in should take 4 to 6 weeks, your stylist will always be working to ensure your style lasts. Therefore, they sew the fabric tightly to eliminate the possibility of slack for the splint on the extra play in the thread.
However, this can be a problem when trying to determine if your braids or seams are too tight. We’ll talk more about that later.
#3 You are not hydrated
I know that sounds crazy! But I promise you, that’s true! I went to some specialists and they all advised me to avoid tension and drink lots of water.
A dehydrated scalp can stop the production of natural oils in your scalp and lead to a dry, itchy scalp. Unfortunately, adding a tissue and exposing your scalp to tension, pulling, and gunshots can aggravate your scalp even more.
This irritation can make the situation worse. It can leave your dry, itchy scalp now inflamed and sore to the touch.
Do you speak!
The only thing you can do to avoid this painful experience is to speak up! Many clients are afraid to speak up and tell their stylist if they experience pain during installation. You may think this is normal, but it can be very harmful to your scalp.
Some barbers are clumsy and braid way too tight. By simply raising your voice you can make a world of difference in your hairstyle and most importantly in the health of your scalp.
If you have scalp pain or pain that causes discomfort, your sew-in installation was incorrect. It was not installed with your scalp and hair care in mind. This may be because your stylist is solely focused on installing your weave and creating your final look.
Sometimes they can forget how tight they are braiding, sewing, or pulling. Don’t be afraid to let your stylist know it’s too tight and they need to loosen up their technique.
They need to say something while they are about to style your hair. That means you should also say something if you feel pain while sewing.
Let them know that they can braid your hairless hair tightly and give the thread a looser and slightly less tension when knotting at the end. Instead, you could have them cut a few stitches that they’ve reinforced several times.
Speak as soon as possible. Once the service is complete, they probably won’t want to dismantle all their hard work to do it again.
beauty is pain
When I started sewing back to back, I let my stylist know that the fabric was way too tight around my edges. When all was said and done, we both narrowed it down to their braiding technique.
The next few times I went back to get a full sew in she would braid my hair and then wet the braids in the sink and sit me under the dryer to get the initial moisture out.
While this technique of adding moisture to fill and loosen my braid felt great on my scalp, it was a waste of time as the pain and tugging came from the sewing process of installation.
When my stylist tried to create a flat look around my edges, she would pull the thread so hard that I would get white bumps of tension. It wasn’t until I noticed my edges were thinning that I made a serious effort to warn her when she started stitching near my temples. That’s why it’s so important your hairstylist knows how to loosen tight braids under a seam.
Many people don’t realize this until it’s too late, but over time, a series of extremely tight seams can lead to breakage or even worse things.
Things like permanent damage to the hair follicle or traction alopecia are also dangers of tight suturing. While most of us focus on letting our edges come out of our seams, the crown area of our scalp can also suffer a lot from wearing hair extensions.
Will my hair extensions stop hurting?
Many women use sew-in as a protective style to protect their hair from the elements. Little do they know that hair extensions can be a harmful element in and of themselves if not applied properly.
To reduce stress from an incorrectly installed dart, you can do the following:
#1 Apply an oil
Peppermint oil, tea tree oil, or braid spray can be used to soothe sensitive areas of the scalp.
These oils have anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe irritation and treat any wounds that may occur.
Remember to use these oils no more than three times a week to avoid any negative effects.
#2 Apply a steaming towel to your scalp
Moisture is your friend!
If you can loosen up the tissue and manipulate the marks, you will relieve much of your pain.
Water helps create a glide between the extensions and the thread, allowing you to move it more.
The steam allows you to massage your scalp more intensely and increase movement on the tracks.
#4 Cut some of the threads
Another way to ease the pain of tight sew-in extensions is to cut some threads. Be very strategic with this step. I cut strands and ended up putting some traces in my braids. You also don’t want to accidentally cut your hair, that could be tragic.
You should always cut the stitches around the areas of tension and continue to pull or feel the area where you are cutting.
That means after you cut a stitch, poke around the area lightly to make sure the section of panel is still clear of your sewing machine before cutting another thread. If you do these things later as a precaution, you can avoid minor or major unwanted glitches.
#4 Go back to your stylist
Sometimes the pain is so unbearable that you may have to return to your stylist for a repeat. Now, of course, it’s best if you speak while your hair is actually being done. It’s easier to fix a painful stitch-in while it’s done on the first go, and that’s most convenient for both you and the stylist.
If you paid $250 for an unbearable style, you have the right to have it professionally corrected for free. Your stylist should know how to undo a seam.
Now of course you want to be nice when you ask for this service. Explain the problem to them, show them what’s going on, and ask them what they can do.
If you are a good stylist, your customers will come to you first and they will want you to be satisfied.

Do hair extensions loosen?
They do feel a little tight at first, but after a couple days they will loosen and feel less tight.
Sleeping With Hair Extensions Hurts. What Should You Do?
This is a before photo. You can see my current hair length. My hair is partially damaged from the last extensions. The first photo is before we dyed my hair.
ARE YOUR EXTENSIONS SEWN IN?
Yes. They placed beads on sections of my natural hair, then she sewed the wefts onto the beads, creating two rows. No glue, heat or tape is required. That is a good thing. The hair extensions are made of 100% human hair. They can be washed, dyed, straightened and curled with heating tools.
WHAT BRAND ARE YOUR EXTENSIONS?
The brand I use is from Hair Compounds. During my consultation, I also decided on two different colors. A blonde and brown color. Again, this is 100% human hair.
HOW MANY ROWS DID YOU GET?
I have 2 rows. My hair is so full now and only takes up a small part of my head. The last time I had the extensions, I had my whole head covered.
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?
It only took 1.5 hours to put in the hair extensions. We dyed the hair before we started and it took about 45 minutes. The last extensions I had I usually spent 8 hours in the salon. That was so much faster.
DOES IT HURT?
Not at all! It was so easy and painless.
DOES YOUR HAIR FIT WITH THE EXTENSIONS?
Yes, they mix your hair and the extensions so they blend beautifully.
CAN YOU WEAR YOUR HAIR IN A TOP KNOT OR IN A HIGH PONYTAIL?
Yes! Yes / Yes! I often wear my hair in a bun/messy bun and ponytail. This is one of the main reasons I wanted to try the hand tie extenders. You can even wear braids.
HOW WILL YOU FEEL AFTER?
You definitely feel something in your hair, but after a few days you get used to it. I was used to having extensions so it felt normal to me. They feel a bit tight at first, but after a few days they loosen up and feel less tight.
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO KEEP SLEEPING?
I was so surprised how well I slept the first night. I had assumed that I was uncomfortable and possibly having trouble sleeping. It was the complete opposite. I slept normally without any problems.
how long do they last
The extensions can last anywhere from 4 to 6 months with proper care. After that, you need to buy a new set of extensions.
WHAT IS THE MAINTENANCE?
You will need to have the rows tightened about every 6 weeks. At this point you will also have your paint touch-up.
DO YOU DAMAGE YOUR HAIR?
I believe this type of hair extension causes the least amount of damage as no heat, glue or tape is required. But anything you do to your hair that isn’t natural can cause damage. Just like dyeing hair. So I think the hand tied extensions are the best choice for me. I also use the right products to keep my hair in tip-top shape!
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Most customers spend between $200 and $600 on the actual hair extensions. This all depends on the length of hair you want as well as how much hair you need.
Installation costs $170 per row.
If you go back to narrow the rows, the cost is $120 per row.

WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR USE DURING RENEWAL?
Only use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. Here are my current favorites and what I use:

WHAT OTHER TYPES OF EXTENSIONS HAVE YOU HAD?
My first extensions were tape-ins. My next was the heated bead binding and then my flat tip extensions. You can read about it here.
MY GENERAL THOUGHTS.
I am so in love with my new hand tied hair extensions! You are really amazing! I only wish I had tried them sooner.

Do hair extensions stop your hair from growing?
The extensions are attached close to the roots using comb-like clips, and this will not stop your hair from growing” Clip in extensions have the same effect on your hair as a normal hair clip; they won’t affect its growth or damage your hair if they’re applied properly.
Sleeping With Hair Extensions Hurts. What Should You Do?
Do clip in hair extensions damage your hair?
Clip-in hair extensions shouldn’t damage your natural hair because they attach with smooth, plastic-coated clips rather than glue or heat. Apply them well and choose the right weight for your hair and you should find that your hair stays in top condition. Learn more about clip-in extensions and natural hair damage. Clip in extensions come in many shapes, sizes and weights and are one of the most popular types of hair extensions because they don’t interfere with your natural hair.
Because they are easy to attach and remove, they don’t interfere with your lifestyle as much as permanent extensions. And because they don’t require glue or heat to be applied, they’re very unlikely to damage your hair. Clip-in extensions consist of a braid of hair with clips sewn into it for easy attachment.
The clips are usually made of metal and are coated in smooth plastic so they don’t scratch your scalp. Clip-in extensions are designed to be easy to use, but like everything in life, they can be harmful if used incorrectly. Damage can occur in two ways – incorrectly applying your hair extensions and putting too much weight on your hair.
Clip in hair extension application
The way the clips are placed has a big impact on damaging your own hair. You must place the clips vertically, otherwise they may tug and tug on your hair, causing discomfort and damage. Proper use is the key to looking perfect and keeping your hair healthy without undue stress. If you’re new to clip-in extensions, we recommend doing a little online research first and watching some tutorials to see how to use them properly before you buy them. If you already suffer from brittle hair or hair loss due to medical reasons, consult your doctor before investing in hair extensions.
Clip in hair extension weights
Hair extensions come in different weights. If you have very fine hair, too much volume can pull on your hair and cause breakage, which is why choosing the right weight for your hair and the right type of extension is so important. The standard weight for a full extension head is 100 to 180 grams of hair, but this will depend on how thin your hair is – if you have very fine hair you may need less weight.

Do clip in extensions stop hair growth?
“Because clip-in hair extensions attach with small hair clips, they look the same on your hair as a regular hair clip. They will not stunt growth or damage your hair if used properly. Learn more about clip-in extensions and hair growth. Clip in hair extensions do not affect your hair growth. The extensions are secured close to the roots with comb-like clips, which doesn’t stop your hair from growing.”
Clip in extensions have the same effect on your hair as a regular hair clip; They will not interfere with growth or damage your hair if used properly. However, stunted hair growth can be caused by a poor diet or a lack of scalp stimulation. So when you’re not wearing your extensions, give your hair a boost by giving yourself a scalp massage with your fingers or a handy scalp massager. Not only does it help your hair grow, but it’s also a great way to relax.
Do hair extensions help hair growth?
“Unfortunately, hair extensions don’t help your hair grow, although we’d love it if they did! The best way to encourage hair growth is through a healthy lifestyle and regular scalp stimulation – such as: B. a gentle scalp massage.”
Wouldn’t it be amazing if extensions helped your hair grow? We’d love to say that clip-in extensions make hair grow faster, but that statement just isn’t true. But it’s not all bad news. The stimulation you give your scalp and roots when applying and removing your clip-in extensions is quite valuable and can contribute to healthy hair.
Despite this, there is no direct link between clip-in hair extensions and hair growth; it’s like wearing a regular hair clip. So what can you do to grow your hair? Aside from stimulating the scalp, hair growth comes from within — essentially from the food you eat. A healthy, balanced diet means healthy skin, nails and hair. The bottom line? Take care of yourself and eat a healthy and balanced diet. Some supplements – particularly those high in B vitamins – claim to promote hair growth, but we recommend that you consult your GP or pharmacist first before adding any supplements to your diet.
Do hair extensions cause thinning hair?
“Hair extensions cannot cause hair thinning. If applied poorly, they can stress and break your hair, but the hair shaft itself remains healthy.”
Hair loss can be caused by one of three factors – your genes, your health, or chemical treatments. The hair shaft is made up of proteins known as alpha keratin, and the structure of your hair depends on your genes; it’s something you’re born with – either you have fine hair or you don’t. However, there are some chemical products that will remove the keratin from your hair and these will thin the structure of the hair shaft.
This can also happen as a result of certain medical conditions. Wearing external, non-chemical items — like barrettes, combs, or extensions — will not break down the keratin in your hair. They can weigh down your hair if not applied properly or if the weight is too much for your hair. That’s why we always recommend you choose weights that are comfortable to wear and don’t pull your hair.
Do hair extensions cause hair loss?
“If hair extensions are used properly, you should not experience any unusual hair loss. Hair loss only occurs with extensions if they don’t fit well or are too heavy for your hair.”
There is a lot of debate on this topic, but the truth is that hair extensions should not cause hair loss if worn properly. However, if used poorly, they might.
Choose your extensions carefully and apply them well and you should be fine. If you’re experiencing tugging or tugging, headaches, or hair loss, you probably need to reconsider how you wear your extensions. Choosing the right extensions is important; Think about your hair type, the condition of your own hair, the weight of the new hair, the type of hair extensions used, and your general hair care routine.
We always recommend that you hire a professional to apply permanent extensions such as tape extensions, micro rings, or bonded extensions, and that you research application methods thoroughly if you wish to wear clip-in extensions. If you have a medical condition, consult your doctor before investing in hair extensions.

Why Do My New Hair Extensions Hurt?
If you are new to hair extensions and have recently had a set fitted, you may be wondering if it is normal for your head to feel sensitive after the fitting. This is an incredibly common question as many of us suffer from sensitive scalps and installing a new set of hair extensions can make it a bit uncomfortable for the first few days of fitting.
Here we go through what to expect and what not to expect in terms of discomfort after a hair extension fitting and possible solutions for you.
New hair extensions can take a while to get used to
Why can new hair extensions cause discomfort?
Are your hair extensions causing you a lot of pain and discomfort?
What are the possible causes of pain from hair extensions?
Your hair extensions were adjusted too tight
Your hair extensions are too heavy
You may have an allergy
Tension hairs in a hair extension can cause discomfort
What should I do if my hair extensions are uncomfortable?
When the hair extensions are first fitted, the ties are placed close to your scalp on the day of installation to keep them secure and last 3-4 months while they slowly grow back. The extensions should be just far enough away from the scalp to allow them to move in all directions without being restricted, and they should be hanging (flat on the head) without protruding at all. If you place the hair extensions this way, you should experience minimal discomfort from your hair extensions, but every client is different and some will experience an adjustment period during which they can get used to the hair extensions, which can be slightly uncomfortable. Many describe this feeling as something similar to having your hair tied in a tight ponytail for the day, with the scalp becoming tender from the pressure of the hairstyle. This is a completely normal feeling with hair extensions and will subside within a few days once your scalp adjusts and returns to normal. There are a number of different elements that come into play that can cause slight discomfort during the first few days of your hair extension fitting. These include your scalp being sensitive to the new weight of the hair, your scalp being sensitive to the attachment method (e.g. a micro ring) or your hair extensions being a little too tight. In most cases, and when mild to mild discomfort occurs, this is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. If you’ve read the above and think your hair extensions are more than slightly uncomfortable and causing you pain, it may be due to an improper fit. It is important to determine if you have mild discomfort, which is normal, or significant discomfort, as the latter will need correcting, while mild discomfort is to be expected and will resolve on its own. If you’ve been experiencing pain that hasn’t subsided over a period of 3 days, or you’re really finding the hair extensions very uncomfortable, you need to look for a cause so that you and your hair extender can find a solution to help you as soon as possible as possible. There are a number of possible reasons why you might find your new hair extensions uncomfortable. These include but are not limited to the following possible causes: The most likely cause of your discomfort is that your hair extensions have been placed too close to the roots and are therefore putting pressure on your scalp. Hair extensions that have been placed too close to the scalp will usually stick out slightly as they are too close to lay flat against the head. If you have felt your hair extensions and think you have, you will need to make an appointment with the person who fitted the hair extensions so that they can be untied. Once the hair extensions are corrected and fitted against the scalp, you should no longer feel the discomfort. Another common cause of discomfort occurs when hair extensions are fitted that are too heavy for your hair type. If you have fine hair and thick strands of hair extensions have been applied, it can be difficult for your scalp to adjust to the new weight. In these circumstances, as with the above information, you will need to contact your installer for them to be adjusted. You will need thicker strands of your own hair to comfortably support the weight of each hair extension. A less common cause of discomfort may be that you are allergic to the type of fitting being used. This is usually only the case with microrings/microtubes and nanorings if you are metal sensitive as they contain a metal component to which some can also be mildly allergic. To learn more about metal allergies, please click on the link. Finally, the cause of your discomfort may be that during the fitting, some hairs that shouldn’t be there got caught in the fitting and are pulling on your scalp. Even if only 1 hair is pinched and tightened, it can be very uncomfortable. Again, to some degree 1 or 2 such pinched hairs are to be expected and not uncommon, however your hair extensions practitioner should be trained and experienced in recognizing these so that they can be disengaged. If you think the cause of your condition is tension hair, contact your hairstylist to set up an appointment who should be able to easily locate and adjust it for you. If you think your hair extensions are painful and this is more than a typical adjustment time, we advise you to make an appointment with your hair extensions as soon as possible to have the hair extensions corrected to a level that is comfortable for you. Only a very small adjustment may be needed, but it’s better to play it safe and have the extensions assessed by a professional if you’re ever worried.
Sleeping With Hair Extensions Hurts. What Should You Do?
Sleeping with hair extensions hurts. What to do?
After visiting a hair extension salon and getting your dream hair extensions, you are over the moon. Unfortunately, when you go to bed, you realize that sleeping with hair extensions hurts. What to do? you wonder Before delving deeper, we need to understand why the extensions hurt in the first place.
Why the extensions hurt
The extensions will hurt for many reasons, the most common being:
They are too tight
If the stylist placed the extensions too close to the roots, they have to put a lot of pressure on the scalp, hence the discomfort while sleeping. Extensions that are placed too close to the scalp tend to protrude slightly and you can easily tell by running your hand over them.
If this is the case with your extensions, you should make an appointment with your stylist and have the extensions untied and properly placed on the scalp.
You put too much tension on the extensions
If you’re in pain while tossing and turning in bed, you’re probably pulling on your scalp, hence the pain. To avoid this, braid your hair medium tight so you don’t tug on the extensions while also keeping them secure throughout the night.
The braid also keeps the extensions from moving and the bindings from getting tangled, giving you great looking hair in the morning.
They sleep in clip-in hair extensions.
You should remove clip-in extensions when you go to bed, but some people jump into bed with them on due to tiredness or distraction. As you can imagine, this leads to tangles and tangles.
The clips will tangle with the natural hair causing undue pain, not to mention making your hair look like it’s from a war zone.
To avoid this, make a habit of removing the extensions right at home and storing them in a safe place. The cool thing is that the extensions are easy to remove and it won’t take a minute of your time. That way you won’t forget them and sleep in them and you’ll end up with a lot of pain and damage to the extensions.
Likewise, you shouldn’t sleep with clip-in extensions, you shouldn’t sleep in flip-style extensions either. This is because the extensions are similar to clip-in extensions but have a larger shot within some smaller ones.
Like the clip-ins, make a habit of removing them when you get home and storing them in a dry, safe place until the next morning when you go to work.
The extensions are wet.
Wet hair extensions get tangled easily, and if you tug on them even slightly at night, you’ll feel a lot of pain. To prevent this from happening, make sure the extensions are completely dry before getting into bed.
Even if you are tired and want to sleep, take a few minutes to remove all the water with a hair dryer.
How to sleep with hair extensions
To avoid the pain of sleeping and having to go to Olney’s hairdresser to redo the extensions, you should know how to sleep with the extensions on.
Whatever type of extensions you have, make sure you brush them before bed. That way they won’t get tangled or hurt even if you pull on them.
You should also make a habit of braiding the extensions to avoid pulling on them.
To reduce friction between your hair and the pillow, invest in a quality silk pillow.
