The beauty of a smartphone is that you get many features for similar purposes, each serving a different type of user. Not everyone likes to keep the ringer on all the time. Luckily, Android devices have three different modes to silence the phone.

We’re talking about three options – silent, do not disturb (DND) and airplane mode. While Silent and Do Not Disturb modes are accessible under the sound settings, Airplane mode is available under the network and internet settings.

That’s not the only difference between these three. There are many differences between them and here we will try to understand them better.

So let’s get started.

What do you do

The silent mode is the basic form among the three. It simply turns off all notification sounds; Be it incoming calls, messages, or app notifications, you won’t hear about it.

Do Not Disturb mode does exactly what its name suggests. Enabling this mode will prevent random calls and notifications from interrupting you. Of course, you can further customize it to only allow ringtone for certain contacts, important apps for push notifications and so on.

Finally, airplane mode blocks all network connectivity for your phone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t access other features. Since all three features are very different from each other, their use case is also different. Silent mode is used when you want to silence everything without creating an exception or schedule.

Do not disturb mode is used when exceptions are important. For example, if you put your phone in this mode at night, you can allow the alarm in the morning. Likewise, you can whitelist specific contacts for emergency purposes.

Next, we sent a text message to the iPhone in Do Not Disturb Mode. The message ran as usual, clearly showing the usual blue bubble with the status Delivered at the bottom of the text bubble.

As expected, the iPhone placed in Do Not Disturb Mode did not ring, vibrate, blink, or show that a new message was received.

How to Call Someone Using Do Not Disturb Mode on iPhone

The default Do Not Disturb Mode settings on iPhone have certain loopholes added to make people accessible even when the iPhone is put into Do Not Disturb Mode.

Since most iPhone users are likely to use non-mode with the default settings, you should be able to call most people using one of the methods below.

1. Call once and call again within 3 minutes

The default Do Not Disturb mode setting allows calls to go through if someone calls again from the same phone number within three minutes of the first call.
