Gaining more likes will also help your future posts get more exposure, as the platform’s algorithm works in a way that shows users more of what they’ve previously shown interest in.

To help you reap these benefits, I’ve written this guide on how to get more likes on the visual social network.

Here are six tips.

1. Share images that work

Images are probably the most important part of your Instagram strategy, so let’s start with them.

When you share an image to get more likes, think about what makes your followers like posts. Look at your old posts and analyze them, see which ones got the most likes.

If you’re new to an account or haven’t posted much in the past, it’s a good idea to look at your competitors’ accounts and see what they’re posting. Once you have insight into the types of images that get likes, you can create similar images and share them.

There are generally two types of images you want to share on your main Instagram feed – photos and framed images.

If you’re sharing the photo alone, you can just add a filter and it’s ready to post. A study by Track Maven found that for maximum engagement, you should use the Mayfair filter or not add one at all (since unfiltered posts perform second best).

However, if you’re sharing a pre-made image, consider adding an overlay text, e.g. B. a quote or fact, or something fun that will get you more likes. Fun and useful content generally performs well.

An example of a company that shares both photos and designed wallpapers is Canva. If you visit their account, you will see several photos like the ones above that offer testimonials from their users.

Canva also shares designed images, like above. It is good to vary between photos and designed images.

2. Use calls to action and hashtags in captions

If you want likes, ask for them.

Social Bakers found that when people asked for retweets, tweets were more likely to be retweeted.

So if you want more likes on Instagram, you can ask for that too.

You can do this by including a simple message like “Please like this post” in the caption. It can also be helpful to place it on top of the image as overlay text.

One company that regularly posts engaging quotes and asks people to like them with a message in the caption is Foundr. They used this tactic to get a lot of likes, which also helped them gain over a million followers.

The Track Maven study mentioned earlier also found that posts with 11 or more hashtags received the most likes on Instagram.

So you should add at least 11 hashtags to every post. You can add more, but be careful not to add more than fifteen as your post may end up looking spammy.

3. Plan for the best times

Track Maven found that posts published between 10pm and 3am get the most engagement.

Neil Patel randomly liked photos of people he doesn’t follow on Instagram and found that for every 100 likes he made, he got about 21.7 likes and 6.1 follows back. This strategy continued to work even when he wasn’t following these people in response.

This strategy depends on your business goals, but it can be worth scouring the popular Instagram feed and the feeds of popular hashtags and liking posts that you find entertaining or useful — or from profiles related to your business.

We have been using Instagram automation for years with great success. We proved that follow/unfollow strategy is one of the most effective ways to gain Instagram followers. For example, one account we help manage grew to over 90,000 followers in just under a year using this method.

What we found is that the method only works well with automation. When we first started using Instagram, we manually followed users and liked their posts every hour. It was incredibly time consuming and more often or not ended up with action restrictions because we lost count of how many users we followed in an hour.

We found that 20% to 35% of people follow you back

We have helped 100+ clients manage their Instagram accounts. The only way we can optimize their Instagram growth is by tracking every detail to ensure we meet our performance goals. One of the most important metrics we measure is the follow-back rate.

We do this by tracking every account our tools have interacted with and then measuring the percentage of users who end up following our client.

The percentage will vary significantly depending on the effectiveness of who you choose to follow. With Instagram automation, you have dozens of filters to ensure you are interacting with users who are likely to come back.

This means that out of ten users you follow, on average only one will unfollow you. Therefore, the follow/unfollow method is proven to give you huge growth with little or no work by using Instagram automation.

Instagram Restrictions and Terms of Use

You might be like, oh if the more people I follow the more followers I get, why not follow thousands of users a day? The problem lies in Instagram’s restrictions and terms of service. For one, manually following/unfollowing 100+ followers per day is very time consuming. The only option for the follow/unfollow method to be effective is to use Instagram automation.

The risk you face with automation is that it violates Instagram’s Terms of Service, as stated here:

“You may not create any accounts with the Service in any unauthorized manner, including without limitation using any automated device, script, bot, spider, crawler, or scraper.”

Follow/unfollow limits

According to Instagram, Instagram does not allow anyone to follow more than 7,500 people to reduce spam.

Regarding the hourly limits, we find that for new accounts that have only been active for a few months, you can only follow/unfollow about 20 users per hour and a maximum of 100-200 users in a day. For accounts that have been active for years, the limits increase to around 50 follows/unfollows per hour and a maximum of 300-400 users in a day.

In conclusion, we did the research and can safely conclude that Follow/Unfollow can actually speed up your Instagram growth, but only with the use of Instagram automation. One thing that has intrigued me since getting started on Instagram is the sheer number of follow/unfollows that stream through my account on a regular basis. I’m not talking about those who gracefully retire after a few months, I’m talking about those who drop out after a few days, and I ask myself the question – what do these users want? Connection? Counting? Recognition?

I’m sure these experiments work occasionally, but people are flying in and out of our site so quickly I don’t even have time to notice them. And I’m not someone who only comes into contact with large accounts – for me quality counts over quantity. I’m just as likely to follow someone with 300 followers as I am with 100,000, although I’ll admit I’m less likely to follow up these days as I’m struggling to keep up with my current followers.

So how do you increase your chances of being followed back on Instagram? A combination of factors – some less obvious than others, but there are certain elements that make me more likely to push that button:

A public account

This is essential for me – and I suspect for many others too. If I can’t see what you post, I’m very unlikely to follow you, even if your numbers are great (exceptions for family and friends, of course).

Consistent interaction

I’m mostly on Instagram for the community and trying to be a fairly loyal follower (although that’s not quite as easy with the new algorithm), so that’s really key for me. If someone follows me and then interacts over a longer period of time, I’m more likely to follow them back. In my first year, I could see engagement through likes, but comments are more visible these days. We’re not talking stalker territory here—just occasional meaningful replies that show we have common ground. I’ve been caught out by professional followers/unfollowers (including sizable accounts) in the past, so I’m pretty cautious about jumping in quickly.

I’d also like to add that it’s generally easier to get feedback from new accounts. However, if you do, please don’t take advantage of the newbies and unfollow once you connect. This undermines the entire trust system.
