More and more brands are using Instagram Stories for their business, but just like Snapchat, there are limitations that make planning content challenging for marketers and business owners. Everyone wants to create a good Instagram story, but how do you keep track of the work that goes into each story if you can’t prepare them in advance or upload old photos or videos to your Instagram story? Well, it turns out you can! Here are 4 ways to upload any photo or video to your Instagram Story, even if it’s over 24 hours old!

Why Hack Your Instagram Stories?

Marketing your business on Instagram is a constant battle between posting too often and not enough, so Instagram Stories is a complete game changer. You can be remembered for your customers and share as much as you want, with as much creative edge as you want, without worrying about people unfollowing you.

The problem, however, is that Instagram Stories only lets you post photos or videos that were taken within the last 24 hours – anything taken more than 24 hours ago won’t appear in the image picker. This makes it really difficult to prepare your stories in advance!

Wouldn’t it be great if you could prepare some photos and videos on Monday and then post them to your story throughout the week? Lucky for you, there is! Read on for our list of four ways to upload Instagram Stories older than 24 hours!

1. Take a screenshot

The first way (and probably the easiest for most people) is to simply take a screenshot of an old photo by pressing the Home and Sleep buttons at the same time. This will add the screenshot to your camera roll and since this screenshot is brand new you can upload it to your Instagram story.

The main disadvantage of doing this is that the quality of the photo will decrease slightly and you may need to crop the image to remove excess background before uploading.

2. Use Later’s media library

One of the best ways to bypass Instagram’s 24-hour limitation is to use Later’s free media library, which allows you to upload, store, and manage all your visual content!

First, download the Later app. Once set up, upload a photo or video from your desktop computer to your media library (you can also upload multiple photos and videos at once using our bulk upload feature).

First, download Pixelgarde from the App Store. Once installed, you can browse through your photos and videos in the app. Select the photo or video you want to post, tap Edit, then tap Change Date and Time. Change the date of the photo or video to the current date and click Done. Now when you navigate to your camera roll, the photo or video will appear as your most recent.

You can then open the Instagram app and select the photo or video to post to your story! We should mention that this app can be buggy at times. So if you want to use an app, uploading and downloading from Later’s library is probably easier.

Create a “project” using iMovie or a video show

We learned from a tip from Nicolle at @sotosocialmgmt that you can also save a new version of your videos using a video editing app.

Download the free iMovie app on your iPhone (or Video Show on Android). Tap Create Project, then tap Movie to browse the photos and videos you have stored on your smartphone. Select the video you want to post to your Instagram story and tap “Create Movie”.

You can edit the video in this window (add a filter or theme, music and transitions) or simply save the video to your photo library by selecting “Done” and then tapping the “Export” button and selecting “Save Video”. .

Finally, open the Instagram app on your smartphone, navigate to the Instagram Story camera by swiping right from your feed, then swipe down to open the image picker. Your saved video should appear as the first option to post!

4. Post to Instagram in flight mode

One final way to bypass Instagram’s 24-hour limitation is to post a photo or video to your Instagram feed while in airplane mode, and then save the edited version of that photo or video to your camera roll. Sounds complicated, but it is not!

First, enable Airplane mode on your smartphone. Once you’re disconnected from WiFi and cellular data, open the Instagram app and tap the “+” to upload a photo from your phone’s library.

When prompted, edit the photo or video as you normally would in Instagram (apply a filter, adjust contrast, crop or choose a border) and tap Share. Your photo or video won’t actually be posted because you’re in airplane mode, but Instagram saves a fresh copy of the edited photo or video to your camera roll.

Finally, turn off airplane mode and navigate to the image picker in Instagram Stories where you want the edited photo or video to appear. This is also a fun way to add filters or edit your Instagram photo before sharing it on your Instagram story!

Instagram’s Boomerang app, which launched last October, snaps a handful of photos in rapid succession and then turns them into a GIF-like loop that plays forward and backward.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could prepare some photos and videos on Monday and then post them to your story throughout the week? Lucky for you, there is! Read on for our list of four ways to upload Instagram Stories older than 24 hours!

1. Take a screenshot

The first way (and probably the easiest for most people) is to simply take a screenshot of an old photo by pressing the Home and Sleep buttons at the same time. This will add the screenshot to your camera roll and since this screenshot is brand new you can upload it to your Instagram story.

The main disadvantage of doing this is that the quality of the photo will decrease slightly and you may need to crop the image to remove excess background before uploading.

2. Use Later’s media library

One of the best ways to bypass Instagram’s 24-hour limitation is to use Later’s free media library, which allows you to upload, store, and manage all your visual content!

First, download the Later app. Once set up, upload a photo or video from your desktop computer to your media library (you can also upload multiple photos and videos at once using our bulk upload feature).

When you’re ready to post to your Instagram story, just open the Later app on your smartphone, navigate to the media library, and save the photo or video to your camera roll by clicking the ellipses button in the top right Tap the corner of your smartphone screen and select “Save to Camera Roll”. When you download a photo or video from your media library to your phone, it is saved with the current time and date.

Once you’ve saved the photo or video, open the Instagram app, swipe right from your feed to open the camera, then swipe down to select your recently saved media item from the image picker. As simple as that!

3. Use a third party app

A third option is to use a third party app to edit the metadata of your photos and videos or to save an updated version of your videos.

The metadata in your photos and videos is the information, the lens aperture, focal length, camera shutter speed, ISO sensitivity, whether flash was used or not, and of course when the photo or video was taken. By changing the metadata in a photo or video, you can trick Instagram into thinking it was taken in the last 24 hours.

The easiest way to do this is to download Pixelgarde, a free app that lets you add, remove, or change geotags, dates, time of day, and other metadata in your photos and videos. Pixelgarde has a free version of their app, but if you want to remove their watermark you can upgrade for $1.99!

First, download Pixelgarde from the App Store. Once installed, you can browse through your photos and videos in the app. Select the photo or video you want to post, tap Edit, then tap Change Date and Time. Change the date of the photo or video to the current date and click Done. Now when you navigate to your camera roll, the photo or video will appear as your most recent.

You can then open the Instagram app and select the photo or video to post to your story! We should mention that this app can be buggy at times. So if you want to use an app, uploading and downloading from Later’s library is probably easier.

Create a “project” using iMovie or a video show

We learned from a tip from Nicolle at @sotosocialmgmt that you can also save a new version of your videos using a video editing app.

Download the free iMovie app on your iPhone (or Video Show on Android). Tap Create Project, then tap Movie to browse the photos and videos you have stored on your smartphone. Select the video you want to post to your Instagram story and tap “Create Movie”.

You can edit the video in this window (add a filter or theme, music and transitions) or simply save the video to your photo library by selecting “Done” and then tapping the “Export” button and selecting “Save Video”. .

Finally, open the Instagram app on your smartphone, navigate to the Instagram Story camera by swiping right from your feed, then swipe down to open the image picker. Your saved video should appear as the first option to post!

4. Post to Instagram in flight mode

One final way to bypass Instagram’s 24-hour limitation is to post a photo or video to your Instagram feed while in airplane mode, and then save the edited version of that photo or video to your camera roll. Sounds complicated, but it is not!

First, enable Airplane mode on your smartphone. Once you’re disconnected from WiFi and cellular data, open the Instagram app and tap the “+” to upload a photo from your phone’s library.

When prompted, edit the photo or video as you normally would in Instagram (apply a filter, adjust contrast, crop or choose a border) and tap Share. Your photo or video won’t actually be posted because you’re in airplane mode, but Instagram saves a fresh copy of the edited photo or video to your camera roll.

Finally, turn off airplane mode and navigate to the image picker in Instagram Stories where you want the edited photo or video to appear. This is also a fun way to add filters or edit your Instagram photo before sharing it on your Instagram story!

Bonus: cut your boomerang GIFs!

Instagram’s Boomerang app, which launched last October, snaps a handful of photos in rapid succession and then turns them into a GIF-like loop that plays forward and backward.

Recently, Instagram added Boomerang to Instagram Stories. You can now quickly create GIFs for your Instagram Story without opening another app! Instagram’s GIF app Boomerang is now in the actual Instagram app, you’ll find it in the Instagram Stories camera.

To trim your Boomerang GIFs, open the Boomerang app and make a video. Next, tap “Save” and open the Boomerang GIF by navigating to your “Boomerang” folder in your photo library. Tap the Edit button and crop the GIF to the length you want. When satisfied, tap the “Done” and “Save as New Clip” button. You can now post the shortened Boomerang GIF on your Instagram story!

You can’t remove the date from an Instagram Story, but you shouldn’t have to. I’ll shortly show you how to remove the date from pictures and make it last longer than the 24 hour time limit. The restriction to using older images has long been lifted, so you don’t have to worry about that either.

You can remove the date from the images you add to a story. That may be more useful. All you have to do is press and hold the date sticker that Instagram sometimes adds to pictures when you add them to a story and drag it to the trash. The date sticker will be removed!

A boomerang in Instagram is a video that plays both forward and backward. You’ll have seen them wherever a video plays a scene, stops, and then plays it backwards. If you know how to shoot a good video that works, these can be a bit of fun. They are available in Stories.

Open the app to create a new story. Swipe right to access the story camera and select Boomerang mode under the record button. It uses the infinity symbol.

Select Boomerang and start recording.

Complete your recording as usual and watch the video before posting.

Wondering how to get verified on Instagram? There’s a lot more to it than just clicking a link. But we’re here to help you along the way.

It’s not easy to get noticed on Instagram. After all, there are more than 1 billion active users on the platform.

There is a good chance there is someone with your exact name (or brand name) on the platform. So how can you stand out from scammers and get noticed?

Getting the coveted blue tick means you’re verified on Instagram. It lets people know that you are legit and that you have value to an audience. But if it were easy, everyone would do it. And it would lose most of its meaning.

What does Instagram verification mean?

Adding the blue verification tick badge to your Instagram account means you are considered someone of interest on the social platform.

In Instagram’s own words, verification signals “authenticity and notability.” It also means you’ve cleared something of a high bar. The verified badge means that Instagram considers an account “representative of a well-known, frequently searched person, brand, or entity.”

If you see the blue tick, Instagram wants you to know that you’re following an authentic account. Not a fan account or a fake.

Sometimes that means the platform has to act fairly quickly when attempting to review accounts that may have recently gone viral or are a big part of what people in their community are talking about.

There are no cut-and-dry regulations that you have to meet in order to get verified. Facebook states, somewhat puzzlingly, that accounts requesting verification must be authentic, complete, unique, and notable. There is no defined minimum number of followers for which an account must be valid.

But Instagram is looking for people and brands that are in high demand – on social media and in real life.

How to apply for Instagram verification

Would you like to try your luck? Here is an easy-to-follow guide to apply for verification on Instagram.

Step 1: Sign in to your account and go to settings

Log in to your account, visit your profile page and open the drop down menu in the top right corner. From there, navigate to Settings.

Tired of the way your Instagram feed looks? You can change the order of photos in a photo dump to create a whole new look.

Instagram introduced the option to edit a multi-image carousel back in November 2021. Not only can you delete photos from a photo dump, but you can also rearrange your photo album by deleting and re-adding images. So if you want to keep all your photos in one carousel but want a different order, you can do that. This hack only works for photo dumps with more than two photos, because for it to work you must always keep two photos in the album.

This is a workaround, so it’s a little imperfect and you need to plan ahead. You need to strategically remove the photos from your dump so the remaining photos are what you want the first and second photos to be. You then add the removed photos back in the order you want them to follow those first two images.

The only time you should include a hashtag is if you are using a custom hashtag for branding and want to include that one hashtag in your bio description.

JH: I think it’s great! Placing text over an image is a great way to get your audience to stop and pay more attention to your content. If you have a question, message, advertisement or call to action that you don’t want people to miss, be sure to include it in the photo. That doesn’t mean every photo should use this tactic, but it can be very powerful when used.

SE: Most users on social networks use their accounts for personal purposes. So what you share really depends on your intentions. Is it just for your friends and family? JH: While this is a very broad question, I will add a little more context to what we covered in the webinar. The types of videos that work well are similar to the types of photos that work well: tips, tutorials, behind the scenes, greetings or messages, marketing segments, and ways to humanize your brand. You can also include videos just for entertainment value, as long as the content is related to your brand.

Videos will start playing in the Instagram feed as soon as someone stops/pauses on the cover photo in the feed. It doesn’t play with audio unless you tap the video once to start the audio. After playing, it will continue to play automatically until you scroll past the video or stop it.

You can record videos directly in the Instagram app by going to the camera and selecting the video icon. As long as you hold down the record button, you record on video. This is good for stop motion or other short burst shots to put together a tip or tutorial. You can also upload videos from your archives by importing them to Instagram. You can choose a video from your camera roll (Gallery option on Instagram camera) or share a video from your camera roll on Instagram. If the video is longer than 15 seconds, you will need to use the crop tools during the upload process to reduce the video to a maximum of 15 seconds.

As I mentioned before, make sure you choose a good cover photo for the video. However, now the timing of the hashtag doesn’t matter where the photo appears in the gallery. So if you use popular hashtags, they should be included in the caption because hashtag galleries move so fast. If you upload and share your post and then take the time to write your additional hashtags in a comment, that time lag can cause your popular hashtags to become irrelevant. Therefore, publish your popular hashtags in the post’s caption and place the remaining hashtags in a subsequent comment to avoid those additional hashtags in the original caption looking too spammy.

JH: The tactics are similar for any type of business – the key is to engage with your audience and provide them with value. Some of the best ways to build your audience is by using relevant hashtags that your audience is using and searching for. I also recommend looking for and engaging with other content around your industry hashtags. For example, if there is a conference or convention related to your industry/niche, follow that hashtag on Instagram and engage with those users’ content (like their posts and comment on some content). This will put your brand in front of new (relevant and targeted) eyes and help you grow your presence.

Also, focus on showcasing your services (rather than your products). How do your services work? How do others rate or value your services (User Generated Content)? Use calls-to-action to get people to sign up for webinars, your list, downloads, or other offers so that they are directed to your website where you can convert or capture the leads.

Inviting engagement through tips, questions, and conversations is another way to engage your audience. Instead of just posting content they can digest, post content or captions that invite them to participate.
