You only need to purchase the app on the Chromebook, while Windows and Mac clients are free as long as you’re a paid customer. Google sometimes offers Duet Display as a bonus for purchasing a Chromebook. So before you buy, make sure you’re eligible for the offer in the Explore app on Chromebook.

Download the Duat Display app on Chromebook from the Play Store. Also, download the Windows or Mac client and install it on the system. Click on your profile and check the box next to Screen Sharing Enabled.

Open the Duet Display on the Chromebook and select Android in the left sidebar. Then select the Air option. Although Duet Display supports a wired connection, it doesn’t work with Chromebook.

If you opened the Duet display on the Chromebook, you should find your Chromebook IP address here. Click on it to connect. If it doesn’t appear, click the Manually connect to IP button and manually enter the Chromebook’s IP address.

When you’re done, on Windows, just press Win + P and select the Expand displays option. This will start mirroring your Windows desktop to your Chromebook. But we want to use Chromebook as a secondary display. To do this, select the Advanced tab on the desktop and uncheck the Enable mirror mode option. This will stop screen mirroring and use the Chromebook screen as the secondary display.

Deskreen doesn’t have a separate app for Chromebooks. Just download it on your Windows, Mac and Linux desktop and complete the setup process. Then connect both devices to the same WiFi network.

You can find a QR code in the Deskreen app on the desktop. Just scan this QR code with any QR code scanner app on your Chromebook. It will show you a link to the website. Open the link and the second screen of the desktop will appear on your Chromebook screen. Click the full screen button to use the Chromebook as a secondary monitor in full screen mode.

Since it’s an open-source alternative, it’s also free. But the app can feel a bit sluggish at times, and occasional stuttering is quite common.

Don’t worry, there is an alternative. You can use your PC or laptop as a monitor. But how do you use a laptop as a monitor for the Xbox One?

You connect your laptop and Xbox One with a new app that Microsoft has developed. Download the app on your laptop, then enable streaming on your Xbox One, pair both devices which need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network, and you’re ready to play!

This is one of the solutions to your problem. TVs and gaming consoles have been the iconic duo since the 1970s, but nowadays TVs aren’t the only devices with a display. The big question – TV or laptop as Xbox monitor has been around for years.

It seemed like an easy decision. Casual gamers would opt for a TV, while competitive gamers would opt for the laptop. Stay tuned and explain other alternatives and the entire process in detail.

Can I use a laptop as a monitor for Xbox One?

When the first video game console was developed in the 1970s, it was designed as a static location device connected to the television. Think Playstation – its name describes it best; PlayStation.

I remember when I got my first Playstation. Playing on the Playstation was a family affair, we gathered in front of the TV and had fun.

A video game console transmits audio and visual image signals to a display, and one or more people can play the game using some sort of controller.

Today, the television is no longer the only display device. We have PCs, tablets and laptops and you can use them all as a monitor for your Xbox One.

If you don’t have a TV available or need to travel and want to take your console with you, simply pack your laptop and Xbox in a backpack and enjoy your console wherever you go. It is practical and portable.

Laptops are a very popular solution as their screens are larger than tablets and have the minimal hardware requirements to stream the game easily.

Tablets sit between cell phones and laptops, so they don’t have the hardware to support a high-quality game stream from your Xbox.

The main characteristic of a PC is that it is a static workstation and it’s not the best solution if you need to travel, so I’ll focus on laptops.

How do I connect a laptop as a monitor for Xbox One?

There are two ways to connect your laptop as a monitor for the Xbox One. Both have a few advantages and disadvantages, which I will explain in detail.

The first way is to connect your laptop and Xbox One using an HDMI cable. The connection is usually stable and ensures a great gaming experience. But there’s a catch. In order to successfully connect both devices, your laptop must have an HDMI input.

Connect your Xbox One to a power cable and turn it on. Plug the HDMI cable into the output port on your console and the other end into the HDMI input port on your laptop.

Then you need to open and adjust the display settings on your laptop to receive the stream. On most laptops, this toggles automatically. Then you need to access your Xbox’s system settings and configure the resolution settings.

But like I said before, your laptop must have an HDMI input to successfully connect the devices. Most laptops only have one HDMI output. HDMI inputs are rare and laptops with this connector are very expensive.

Laptops are designed to stream content to other devices. To do the opposite, you need to get a capture card. It’s a device that takes visual input from another device, such as a laptop or video camera, and then transmits the signal.

If you have a laptop with an HDMI output, follow the same steps to connect it to your Xbox with one small difference.

You need an admission card. The capture card has an output and an input, so you connect your devices through it rather than directly.

The HDMI cable from the Xbox goes to the capture card’s input port, and the cable from the laptop goes to the output port.

To be honest, this method is very time-consuming and expensive. Capture cards don’t come cheap, and you’ll also need to download the appropriate software onto your laptop for this to work. If you’re blessed with a laptop with an HDMI input, this is definitely the easiest solution.

The other way to connect your laptop to Xbox One as a monitor is through an app, which I will explain in the next section.

How do I wirelessly connect my Xbox to my laptop?

Let’s put our HDMI cables aside and try connecting our devices wirelessly. You need Windows 10 on your laptop and it is very important to mention that both the laptop and Xbox must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

First, download and open the Xbox app from the Microsoft Store. You’ll need to sign in to your Xbox account using the same credentials as on the console.

From your Xbox’s main menu, go to Settings and then click Settings. You need to check the box that says “Allow streaming of games to other devices”.

Return to the app on your laptop and look for the connection icon, which is located in the left sidebar of the dashboard just above the settings icon.

A list of devices that you can connect to your laptop will appear. Click on the Xbox device. After connecting your devices, look for the stream icon, which is right next to Try streaming and more.

The Xbox will prompt you to plug in the controller, then click Next and you’re good to go.

This method requires the laptop and Xbox to be close or within range.

A stable and fast internet connection is a must if you want everything to run smoothly and without lags. If you have a bad internet connection, don’t worry, there is a solution! Opt for a wired Ethernet connection.

It stabilizes your connection and makes it more reliable so you don’t have to downgrade the stream quality.

Laptops with HDMI input

As mentioned before, laptops with HDMI input are pretty rare, but they are essential for outputting the Xbox screen to your laptop screen.

Since the HDMI input is not very popular, laptops with this feature are quite expensive. Most of them are strictly gaming laptops with powerful hardware, which is good as the streaming quality will be exceptional.

There’s one more catch. If you connect your console to your laptop via HDMI-in, you will not be able to use your laptop until it is disconnected. In this case, it only serves as a monitor.

So if you are lucky enough to find a laptop with this feature, you can take it anywhere and use it as a monitor.

It is very important to say that if you are unsure whether your laptop has HDMI input or HDMI output, you should not connect consoles and other devices, as it may cause serious irreparable damage to your laptop.

The HDMI input is usually labeled. If you can’t make out a label, it’s pretty sure you have an HDMI output.

Some laptops with HDMI input are Alienware MX17, Alienware M18 and Alienware 18. Alienware is a Dell company but with more expensive devices.

What is Xbox Play Anywhere?

Xbox has developed a service called Xbox Play Anywhere. Developed in 2016, it allows you to play Xbox games on your Xbox and laptop.

The laptop must have Windows 10 installed and you must have a digital copy of the game you wish to play.

That’s a great thing because your devices don’t have to be in close proximity and no pairing is required. It saves your game progress and you can pick up where you left off on any of the devices.

There are a few downsides too. Only certain game titles are compatible with Xbox Play Anywhere. In addition, your laptop must have the latest version of Windows software – Windows 10.0.19042.985 released on May 11, 2021.

This feature is only available for digital copies of games, so if you have a physical version it won’t work.

You must also be an Xbox Live member. It is a paid subscription that allows you to play multiplayer online and has some other benefits like free games.

You cannot play a game on both devices at the same time and an internet connection is essential. But Microsoft rolled out a great thing called xCloud.

With the xCloud you can store games and data in a cloud and play them on your phone or tablet even when you are offline.

It was started as a project in September 2020 but was successful. It is only available to users playing a subscription called Game Pass Ultimate.

All of these alternatives are something to think about. You have to keep in mind that you may have a problem with the quality of your stream as it depends on various factors. Poor video quality and lag are gamers worst nightmare.

There will be a slight lag and we know that millisecond response time is crucial in some games, especially first person shooter games.

So it is possible to use your laptop as a monitor for Xbox One when all options are not available. The HDMI connector is clearly the most complicated and I wouldn’t recommend it.

The best solution is to connect through the Xbox app. Note that the connection quality depends heavily on the internet connection itself. If you want to avoid poor resolution and lag, go for the Ethernet cable.

Laptop screens and televisions belong to the same family but with some differences. Different design, different picture processing, but TVs these days offer a PC mode.

When you enable PC mode, the TV will adapt to the image processing settings to ensure the best possible experience and try to reduce input lag as much as possible.

Although laptops are very useful as monitors for Xbox because they are portable and convenient, for best performance you should have a laptop with at least 1ms response time and 60Hz.

TVs have a bigger screen and you can curl up on your sofa and enjoy your favorite games without having to connect your Xbox and laptop.

Now that more and more people are starting to get their hands on Sony’s next-gen gaming console, the Playstation 5, I can feel a little less guilty for getting one so early. Between cloud gaming with Stadia, GeForce Now, Xbox Game Pass, etc., Steam Link Beta for remote gaming, and even while we wait for official Steam support for Chrome OS, there are many options for gaming on Chromebooks, but one What has always been missing is access to Sony’s exclusive titles on the go.

You’d think you’d just have to launch Sony’s official Remote Play app from the Google Play Store to bridge this gap, but it’s just plain awful. It connects briefly, lags a few times and displays massive amounts of artifacting, and then almost immediately disconnects. The last time I tried to connect my PS4’s Dualshock 4 controller to my Chromebook, it also went haywire, adding to my frustration.

I had long given up using my PS4 outside of my living room, but when the PS5 was released I started my search for a solution again. After some searching I found a third party application that works better than the official offering and I wanted to share it with all of you. Then let me walk you through the process of getting it set up and running properly on your Chromebook. It’s called PS Play: Unlimited PS Remote Play (PS5/PS4) and is available on the Play Store for $5.99 by a developer named Florian Grill. If you just want to try it, you can find it at the bottom of this article.

I was initially hesitant to shell out the $6 to try the app – after all, how could this single developer create anything better than a company, right? Well, that’s just it – he did it. This is the world we live in. Businesses often struggle to meet consumer demands, and then a consumer comes in and creates something they want to bring to life. It’s often better than what the big boys can make since they don’t have bureaucracy to cut through to make magic happen. PS Play is like that.

Set up Playstation Remote Play

Okay, after installing it I found it was running pretty well even on WiFi, but your mileage may vary. I recommend using a Chromebook, Chromebox, or Chromebase with an Ethernet connection for best results. Upon opening the app, you will be presented with a screen asking you to choose between connecting a Playstation 4 or a Playstation 5. I chose the PS5 as that’s what I use, but again this app works great for both!

Then you need to turn on your PS4 or 5, go to “Settings”, go to “System”, “Remote Play” and then to “Link device”. From there, you simply memorize the six-digit code onscreen, return to your Chromebook, and enter it into PS Play. Please note that your Chromebook and Playstation must be on the same network for Remote Play to work. Once your code has been accepted you will be taken to a screen where you will need to log in to your Playstation account.

Brilliant! You should now be connected and see a message titled “Gamepad Support” before a remote stream from your Playstation. This just tells you that you cannot use your Dualshock 4 or Dualsense controller over USB OTG. Of course, since you’re not playing the games directly on your Chromebook, you won’t be able to control your gaming console when you plug it into your device. You’ll need to connect your gamepad via Bluetooth instead.

Connect your controller to your Chromebook

To do this, simply visit your Chromebook’s Settings app, go to the Bluetooth section, and then pick up your controller. Press and hold the Playstation button and the Share button at the same time until the light bar flashes quickly. If you look back at your Chromebook screen, you should see “Wireless Controller” listed in the Unpaired Devices section. If you click it, it will jump to the paired devices section after a moment. Now your Dualshock 4 or Dualsense controller should be connected! Again, I had issues with the PS4 controller, but the Dualsense connects and works just fine.

Switch back to the PS Play app, hover over the top left corner of the screen and click the back arrow that appears. You will be asked if you want to disconnect your Remote Play session. We’ll do that for a moment, but don’t click the option to put the console to sleep because we’ll be right back! Click on the hamburger menu at the top left of the screen to pull out the menu and select “Settings”.

improving your experience

We’re going to toggle a few things here in the app’s settings so you can have the best experience. You probably noticed that your connection quality was blurry a moment ago. This is because the app defaults you to a stream quality suitable for your internet bandwidth. If you’re on WiFi like me, it’s set to 540p resolution. Visit the “Streaming” settings and select “Resolution”. Change this to 1080p.

Next, scroll down to the “Streaming gamepad layout” section and uncheck the “Show gamepad layout on screen” checkbox. This will make the virtual joystick and all other buttons disappear from your gaming session. This is important as we are not playing with touch – we have a real Playstation controller connected!

Finally, if you find that all the buttons for your favorite game don’t work exactly as if you were playing directly on your living room TV, then you can visit the Button Mappings section to create profiles for each game or type of game! This was a nice surprise I stumbled upon when Final Fantasy XIV’s Confirm and Back buttons were swapped for me. There are tons of other settings that make Sony’s official Remote Play app look like a kid’s toy, so I recommend you check them all before you start playing!

The result

Voila! After clicking “connect locally” you will be returned to your game session where you can then select a title to start! Your screen should be clean and free of app UI elements, and your stream should be of high quality. However, there is one disappointing thing you should know. If you’re one of the many people who use Playstation Now to get access to over 900 games on your console, you can’t remotely play them. Technically you would be streaming a stream and Sony just doesn’t allow that so you’re limited to the games you have installed locally on your Playstation 4 or 5. I recently bought a Best Buy 5TB external hard drive for just a hundred dollars and it has allowed me to greatly increase the number of games I have ready to play.

Playing Final Fantasy XIV on the Pixelbook Go…sort of

Above is how I play Final Fantasy XIV on my Pixelbook Go. If you want to use PS Play outside of your home, you’ll need to set up the “remote connection” option, which requires some additional router information. Again, aside from my crappy WiFi connection, the experience is pretty much flawless. I wouldn’t recommend playing twitch shooters or joining raids on your non-ethernet Chromebook, but it’s still great to have access to another games library on the go while you can check your email and do other chores in between creatures and level up.

I hope Sony one day follows in everyone else’s footsteps and at least offers its PS Now service through the web browser, but access to a Google Play version would be nice too. How to sideload the Fortnite Android app onto your Chromebook

While it’s possible to sideload the Epic Games installer and Fortnite on some Chromebooks, it’s a fairly complicated process and won’t work on most Chromebooks.

You need to turn on developer mode, turn on android apps, turn on apps from unknown sources and download epic games launcher yourself with an android phone. If your Chromebook fails the grade, you won’t be able to install or play Fortnite.

To sideload Fortnite on your Chromebook:

Enable Chome OS developer mode on your Chromebook. Enable Android apps for Chrome OS on your Chromebook. Navigate to Settings > Google Play Store > Manage Android Settings. Tap Security. Tap Unknown Sources. On an Android device, navigate to fortnite.com/android and save EpicGamesApp.apk when prompted. Connect your Android phone to your Chromebook with a USB cable and transfer EpicGamesApp.apk to your Chromebook. Run EpicGamesApp.apk on your Chromebook. Click Package Installer. Click or tap Install. Click or tap Open. Click or tap Install. If you see a gray DEVICE NOT SUPPORTED box instead of a yellow install button, it means Fortnite won’t run on your Chromebook. Complete the installation and start playing Fortnite.

How to play Fortnite on Chromebook using Chrome Remote Desktop

If your Chromebook can’t install or run the Android version of Fortnite, you can try playing via Chrome Remote Desktop. This is an app that connects your Chromebook to a desktop or laptop Windows or macOS computer, and you actually use that computer to play Fortnite.

To use this method, you need a Windows or macOS computer capable of playing Fortnite and a fast internet connection.

Slow network speeds, your Chromebook hardware, and your Windows or macOS computer hardware can all impact Fortnite’s overall performance when using this method. While this method works, your overall performance will be worse than if you were just playing on your Windows or macOS computer.

To play Fortnite on a Chromebook using Chrome Remote Desktop:

Set up Chrome Remote Desktop on a computer that can play Fortnite. Install the Chrome Remote Desktop app on your Chromebook. Connect to your Windows or macOS computer from your Chromebook and enter your PIN when prompted. Open the Epic Games Store and launch Fortnite. Play Fortnite via Chrome Remote Desktop.

Why doesn’t Fortnite work on Chromebooks?

Epic decides which platforms Fortnite will be released on and they have chosen not to support Chrome OS or Linux. That means there’s no official way to play Fortnite on a Chromebook, even if you install and run a full version of Linux.

If Epic ever decides to support Linux, running the Linux Fortnite app is the best way to play Fortnite on your Chromebook. Until then, you can either sideload the Fortnite Android app or play with Chrome Remote Desktop connected to a computer capable of playing Fortnite.

Since Epic doesn’t officially support sideloading the Fortnite Android app on Chromebooks, compatibility isn’t very good. You must be able to run Android apps, you must have a 64-bit processor and Chrome OS 64-bit, and you must have at least 4 GB of RAM. If you meet all these requirements, it can work.

To connect your PC to your Xbox One console:

On your PC, open the Xbox Console Companion app and select the connection icon on the left (looks like a small Xbox One). Select your Xbox and then select Connect. From now on, the Xbox app will automatically connect to your Xbox One as long as it’s powered on.

Note: If you need to find your console’s name, press the Xbox button on the console to open the guide, then select Profile & system (your account icon) > Settings > System > About console. If you need to find the IP address, go to Settings > General > Network Settings > Advanced Settings.

What you should know On your Xbox console, go to Settings > Device & Connections > Remote Features and check the Enable Remote Features checkbox.

How to play Xbox on a laptop?

You can play Xbox games on a laptop using the console’s built-in remote play feature. First, follow these steps to enable remote features on your Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, or Xbox One.

Enable remote play

You must enable the remote play feature from the console and it must be connected to the internet for it to work properly. On top of that, you probably want decent internet speed, since streaming video games smoothly can take up a lot of bandwidth.

Turn on your console, then open Settings. Find and select Device & Connections. Navigate to Remote Features. Check the box next to the Enable remote capabilities check box. Navigate to the Xbox app settings.

Select Allow connections from any device. Alternatively, you can select Sign in from profiles only on this Xbox console for extra security.

Now return to the Remote Features menu and select Test Remote Play to check if your internet can handle the bandwidth load and complete the setup process.

Start playing Xbox games through laptop screen

Once you’ve completed the setup process on your Xbox console, it’s time to turn to your laptop. You’ll need a laptop running Windows 10 or Windows 11. You should also make sure you’ve downloaded the Xbox app from the Microsoft Store.

Launch the Xbox app on your Windows laptop.

Locate the console icon next to the search bar at the top of the application.

Click the icon to start streaming your Xbox console to your laptop. You must ensure that you keep your console powered on while playing.

Can you connect an Xbox to a laptop?

While many laptops have an HDMI port, these typically don’t provide a way to plug a signal into the laptop itself. Essentially, these ports are output only, meaning they can only transmit the laptop’s display signal to another monitor or TV. Because these ports are output only, you can’t connect an Xbox to a laptop and use it as a monitor.

Don’t worry, there is an alternative. You can use your PC or laptop as a monitor. But how do you use a laptop as a monitor for the Xbox One?

You connect your laptop and Xbox One with a new app that Microsoft has developed. Download the app on your laptop, then enable streaming on your Xbox One, pair both devices which need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network, and you’re ready to play!

This is one of the solutions to your problem. TVs and gaming consoles have been the iconic duo since the 1970s, but nowadays TVs aren’t the only devices with a display. The big question – TV or laptop as Xbox monitor has been around for years.

It seemed like an easy decision. Casual gamers would opt for a TV, while competitive gamers would opt for the laptop. Stay tuned and explain other alternatives and the entire process in detail.

Can I use a laptop as a monitor for Xbox One?

When the first video game console was developed in the 1970s, it was designed as a static location device connected to the television. Think Playstation – its name describes it best; PlayStation.

I remember when I got my first Playstation. Playing on the Playstation was a family affair, we gathered in front of the TV and had fun.

A video game console transmits audio and visual image signals to a display, and one or more people can play the game using some sort of controller.

Today, the television is no longer the only display device. We have PCs, tablets and laptops and you can use them all as a monitor for your Xbox One.

If you don’t have a TV available or need to travel and want to take your console with you, simply pack your laptop and Xbox in a backpack and enjoy your console wherever you go. It is practical and portable.

Laptops are a very popular solution as their screens are larger than tablets and have the minimal hardware requirements to stream the game easily.

Tablets sit between cell phones and laptops, so they don’t have the hardware to support a high-quality game stream from your Xbox.

The main characteristic of a PC is that it is a static workstation and it’s not the best solution if you need to travel, so I’ll focus on laptops.

How do I connect a laptop as a monitor for Xbox One?

There are two ways to connect your laptop as a monitor for the Xbox One. Both have a few advantages and disadvantages, which I will explain in detail.

The first way is to connect your laptop and Xbox One using an HDMI cable. The connection is usually stable and ensures a great gaming experience. But there’s a catch. In order to successfully connect both devices, your laptop must have an HDMI input.

Connect your Xbox One to a power cable and turn it on. Plug the HDMI cable into the output port on your console and the other end into the HDMI input port on your laptop.

Then you need to open and adjust the display settings on your laptop to receive the stream. On most laptops, this toggles automatically. Then you need to access your Xbox’s system settings and configure the resolution settings.

But like I said before, your laptop must have an HDMI input to successfully connect the devices. Most laptops only have one HDMI output. HDMI inputs are rare and laptops with this connector are very expensive.

Laptops are designed to stream content to other devices. To do the opposite, you need to get a capture card. It’s a device that takes visual input from another device, such as a laptop or video camera, and then transmits the signal.

If you have a laptop with an HDMI output, follow the same steps to connect it to your Xbox with one small difference.

You need an admission card. The capture card has an output and an input, so you connect your devices through it rather than directly.

The HDMI cable from the Xbox goes to the capture card’s input port, and the cable from the laptop goes to the output port.

To be honest, this method is very time-consuming and expensive. Capture cards don’t come cheap, and you’ll also need to download the appropriate software onto your laptop for this to work. If you’re blessed with a laptop with an HDMI input, this is definitely the easiest solution.

The other way to connect your laptop to Xbox One as a monitor is through an app, which I will explain in the next section.

How do I wirelessly connect my Xbox to my laptop?

Let’s put our HDMI cables aside and try connecting our devices wirelessly. You need Windows 10 on your laptop and it is very important to mention that both the laptop and Xbox must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

First, download and open the Xbox app from the Microsoft Store. You’ll need to sign in to your Xbox account using the same credentials as on the console.

From your Xbox’s main menu, go to Settings and then click Settings. You need to check the box that says “Allow streaming of games to other devices”.

Return to the app on your laptop and look for the connection icon, which is located in the left sidebar of the dashboard just above the settings icon.

A list of devices that you can connect to your laptop will appear. Click on the Xbox device. After connecting your devices, look for the stream icon, which is right next to Try streaming and more.

The Xbox will prompt you to plug in the controller, then click Next and you’re good to go.

This method requires the laptop and Xbox to be close or within range.

A stable and fast internet connection is a must if you want everything to run smoothly and without lags. If you have a bad internet connection, don’t worry, there is a solution! Opt for a wired Ethernet connection.

It stabilizes your connection and makes it more reliable so you don’t have to downgrade the stream quality.

Laptops with HDMI input

As mentioned before, laptops with HDMI input are pretty rare, but they are essential for outputting the Xbox screen to your laptop screen.

Since the HDMI input is not very popular, laptops with this feature are quite expensive. Most of them are strictly gaming laptops with powerful hardware, which is good as the streaming quality will be exceptional.

There’s one more catch. If you connect your console to your laptop via HDMI-in, you will not be able to use your laptop until it is disconnected. In this case, it only serves as a monitor.

So if you are lucky enough to find a laptop with this feature, you can take it anywhere and use it as a monitor.

It is very important to say that if you are unsure whether your laptop has HDMI input or HDMI output, you should not connect consoles and other devices, as it may cause serious irreparable damage to your laptop.

The HDMI input is usually labeled. If you can’t make out a label, it’s pretty sure you have an HDMI output.

Some laptops with HDMI input are Alienware MX17, Alienware M18 and Alienware 18. Alienware is a Dell company but with more expensive devices.

What is Xbox Play Anywhere?

Xbox has developed a service called Xbox Play Anywhere. Developed in 2016, it allows you to play Xbox games on your Xbox and laptop.

The laptop must have Windows 10 installed and you must have a digital copy of the game you wish to play.

That’s a great thing because your devices don’t have to be in close proximity and no pairing is required. It saves your game progress and you can pick up where you left off on any of the devices.

There are a few downsides too. Only certain game titles are compatible with Xbox Play Anywhere. In addition, your laptop must have the latest version of Windows software – Windows 10.0.19042.985 released on May 11, 2021.

This feature is only available for digital copies of games, so if you have a physical version it won’t work.

You must also be an Xbox Live member. It is a paid subscription that allows you to play multiplayer online and has some other benefits like free games.

You cannot play a game on both devices at the same time and an internet connection is essential. But Microsoft rolled out a great thing called xCloud.

With the xCloud you can store games and data in a cloud and play them on your phone or tablet even when you are offline.

It was started as a project in September 2020 but was successful. It is only available to users playing a subscription called Game Pass Ultimate.

All of these alternatives are something to think about. You have to keep in mind that you may have a problem with the quality of your stream as it depends on various factors. Poor video quality and lag are gamers worst nightmare.

There will be a slight lag and we know that millisecond response time is crucial in some games, especially first person shooter games.

So it is possible to use your laptop as a monitor for Xbox One when all options are not available. The HDMI connector is clearly the most complicated and I wouldn’t recommend it.

The best solution is to connect through the Xbox app. Note that the connection quality depends heavily on the internet connection itself. If you want to avoid poor resolution and lag, go for the Ethernet cable.

Laptop screens and televisions belong to the same family but with some differences. Different design, different picture processing, but TVs these days offer a PC mode.

When you enable PC mode, the TV will adapt to the image processing settings to ensure the best possible experience and try to reduce input lag as much as possible.

Although laptops are very useful as monitors for Xbox because they are portable and convenient, for best performance you should have a laptop with at least 1ms response time and 60Hz.

TVs have a bigger screen and you can curl up on your sofa and enjoy your favorite games without having to connect your Xbox and laptop.

With the new web browser play feature, Xbox Game Pass streaming is now playable on Chrome OS, albeit unofficially.

One could argue that Chromebooks have always been supported by Xbox Game Pass since the streaming portion is available through an Android app and most Chromebooks can use Android apps. However, as many have reported, the app isn’t particularly optimized for Chrome OS and can even have issues that result in Xbox Game Pass streaming being unavailable on Chromebooks for weeks.

When news broke that Xbox Game Pass streaming would be getting a proper web app with iPhone/iPad support this year, it seemed like Chrome OS’s time to shine. This afternoon, Microsoft officially launched streaming web app Xbox Game Pass alongside Streaming powered by Xbox Series X, specifically naming “Windows 10 PCs and Apple phones and tablets.”

We reached out to Microsoft and a spokesperson confirmed that Chrome OS is indeed not one of the platforms officially supported by the new web app. However, they left the door open for Xbox Game Pass streaming to officially come to Chrome OS and other platforms, pending community feedback.

We’re starting to support Windows 10 PCs and Apple phones and tablets through Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Safari browsers. We will continue to listen to feedback and work to support more devices over time.

However, despite Microsoft’s statement to the contrary, @mcsetty on Twitter has confirmed that the web app works on Chrome OS, albeit with a warning that you’re using an unsupported browser. By simply clicking Continue Anyway, players can enjoy the full Game Pass streaming experience on a Chromebook.

Since Microsoft allows games to be played in “unsupported” browsers, Amazon Luna is the only denier that allows games to be played on Chrome OS. Meanwhile, Nvidia GeForce Now, Shadow, and Google’s own Stadia all offer web apps that offer formal support for gaming on Chromebooks.
