Official dartboard measurements

In the charts below you will find all the measurements you need to set up your dartboard, whether you have a classic steel tip dartboard or an electronic dartboard. The correct dartboard height is 5′ 8″ from the bullseye to the floor. This measurement is the same no matter what style of dartboard you have. To know where to mark the throw line, measure the thickness of the board followed by a 9 and ¼ inch distance from the wall.

Then join the two together and mark where it stops. When assembling, you may need to change the position of the throw line a bit, especially considering the thickness of the assembly hardware.

Hanging dartboard with toggle screws and anchors

Suppose the assembly operation is not possible with studs. Then you can alternatively opt for heavy-duty toggle bolts or anchors.

For drywall, it’s best to use hollow metal or plastic dowels and toggle screws, as these add up to the overall holding power. After all, nobody wants their dartboards to fall out of nowhere after a while.

Also ensure that the toggle bolts and anchors used can support the weight of your dartboard; Otherwise your efforts will be in vain. You should use one in every spot where you would normally drill screws.

When you hang a dartboard cabinet, have an anchor near every corner and in every mounting hole you can find.

Hanging a dartboard without screws

In some cases you may have to decide on other ways to mount your dartboard without having to drill walls to your walls, especially when drilling also means easily damaging your walls just to mount your dartboard.

In this case, you can use either cork, coated cardboard or soft wooden boards. It’s basically just something that cushions the arrow’s hit and prevents unwanted holes in the wall.

While I’ve personally never set up any of these custom play areas, I’m a huge fan of them.

Pallet furniture has been a real trend lately, but for years it has been modified and used as wall protection for dartboards.

If you don’t trim it, it may be too big for an average wall, but they can easily be trimmed to size. If you like to keep things simple, a shipping pallet can be modified in a number of ways to act as a great back wall.

While they don’t offer the same flexibility as a pallet, an old door is a simple method that can do the trick. It has more reach in the right places and can add a unique sense of style.

Many users build their own environments using old wine corks. The great thing about them is that they can be arranged in several different patterns, giving each interior a unique look.

Wine corks also offer flexibility. You can easily add them to an existing setup or cabinet for added protection and flare. Properly positioned, you can even set the corks up to hold your darts when not in use.

Rope

If wood and cork aren’t your thing, there are many exciting rope solutions. It’s not too difficult to run to the hardware store and get a few yards to wrap your board.

From the examples I’ve seen, a thicker Twinnie rope seems to look and respond better. If you can’t find what you’re looking for at the hardware store, a marine supply store or craft store may be a better choice for that weathered brown look.

Wine Barrel Dartboard Cabinet

My favorite custom cabinets I’ve seen are made from wine barrels. Some simply use the top of a barrel as a backboard surround, while others have found ways to incorporate the barrel and even add scoring boards.

The wine barrel solution is also useful if you know the history of darts, which began with soldiers throwing daggers at barrels to pass the time and improve their accuracy. There’s something very satisfying about mixing the old with the new.

Super low budget and quick fixes

I understand that not everyone can afford an $80 dartboard wall protector, or maybe you just can’t justify spending that much. Maybe you’re just so good you don’t need protection. That is until you have company and they decide to destroy your wall.
