To allow people to go through your iPhone’s DND mode, start by launching the Contacts app on your phone.

In the Contacts app, find and select the person you want to whitelist. On the contact page, tap Edit in the upper-right corner.

On the editing screen, scroll down a little and select “Ringtone”.

An Automatic Number Announcer (ANAC) circuit is a component of a telephone company switch that provides a service for installation and service technicians to determine a line’s telephone number. The facility has a telephone number that can be called to hear an automated announcement containing the caller’s telephone number.

The ANAC number is especially useful when installing landline telephones to quickly identify one of multiple lines.

A technician calls the local number of the automatic number answering service. This call is connected to equipment at a local exchange that uses a speech synthesizer or digital samples to announce the telephone number of the calling line. The main purpose of this system is to allow the telephone company technicians to identify the connected telephone line.

Automatic number announcement systems are based on automatic number identification and are intended for telephone company technicians. The ANAC system works with unlisted numbers, caller ID blocked numbers, and numbers that do not allow outgoing calls. Installers of multi-line business services, where outgoing calls from all lines show the company’s main number on the call display, can use ANAC to identify a specific line in the system, even if CID shows each line as “line one”.

Some ANACs have a very regional or local scope, while others are state/provincial or area code-wide: there does not appear to be a unified national system for them. Most are vendor specific. Each telephone company, large or small, determines its own ANAC for each individual exchange, which tends to perpetuate the current situation of a jumble of overlapping and/or patchy coverage areas.[1] No official lists of ANAC numbers are published because telephone companies believe that overuse of these numbers could lead to them being busy more frequently when needed by installers.[2]

958 local test exchanges[ edit ]

Under the North American Numbering Plan, almost all North American area codes reserve telephone numbers beginning with 958 and 959 for internal local and long-distance testing, respectively, sometimes referred to as facility testing. (An exception is Winnipeg, which only reserves 959.) Numbers within this block are used for various test programs, such as ) and a loop (connecting a call to another incoming call with the same or a different test number). ANAC numbers can also appear in the 958 range, but it is not necessary for them to be there.

In some area codes, in addition to the standard 958 and 959 area codes, several additional prefixes have been reserved for testing purposes. Many area codes reserved 999; 320 was also formerly reserved in the Bell Canada area. As widespread numbering inefficiencies (such as allocating entire blocks of 10000 numbers to each competing carrier in each small village to support local number portability schemes) have led to a shortage of available numbers, these prefixes are often “reclaimed” and passed off as standard interchanges , by moving the few numbers in it to a standard test purse (usually 958).

Some carriers have been known to disable payphone calls to 958 or 959 test lines, such as B. Bell Canada’s ANAC system-wide line at (area code) 958-2580. Toll-free numbers [ edit ]

Some major telephone companies have set up toll-free numbers. In most cases, these numbers remain confidential to prevent abuse, but MCI maintains this widely publicized, toll-free ANAC: 1-800-437-7950. This differs from tech support and other lines that use ANI, allowing a computer to automatically display the customer’s account on a “popup” for the next available customer service representative: the MCI number is specifically for use by ANAC.

In the past, some companies changed their ANAC number every month for confidentiality reasons; for some numbers this is still the case. In an example of this concern, most payphones in the United States are assigned a telephone number and are allowed to ring when the number is called. The phone can then be used by anyone to make and receive calls, making it a potential tool for anonymous criminal activity such as drug trafficking detected by calling an ANAC service.

By the late 20th century, after caller ID and prepaid cell phone services had become commonplace and these services could more easily be exploited for criminal purposes, particularly in the case of burner phones, this type of payphone abuse faded from concern. In Canada, this behavior has always been more difficult. Incoming calls to payphones are of course blocked; In addition, the Bell ANAC number is also disabled (although the phone number is marked on the payphone itself, as it is needed to report a non-working payphone to the 6-1-1 repair service).

There are some private national toll-free numbers that use ANI where a computer reads back the calling number, but these are not intended to identify the customer’s own phone number. They are used for the call center agent to confirm the phone the customer is calling from so that a computer can automatically display the customer’s account on a “screen pop” for the next available customer service representative. They differ from specially made ANAC toll-free numbers. Regardless, if someone called one of these numbers, waited for number confirmation, and hung up, they would actually be using this system as if it were an ANAC.

One such toll-free service is owned by MCI – 1-800-444-4444. This number (US only) is easy to remember and will read out the number after a very short message when called.[3] A disconnected (out of service) line or an incoming-only line could not reach toll-free numbers.

ANAC numbers [ edit ]

These numbers appear on various lists circulated online, many from the 1980s and 1990s. Most were published years ago by Phrack, 2600 magazine, the alt.2600 Usenet newsgroup[4] (as part of the FAQ), or phone phreaks and are now hopelessly outdated. The information is not reliable as the numbers change frequently. Many of the listed numbers no longer work.

The list is presented by area code, number and city. In some areas, there may be multiple numbers depending on the phone company or the area code of the caller, as some areas may have multiple switches.

United States[edit]

The North American Numbering Plan reserves 958-XXXX and 1-NPA-959-XXXX for local and long-distance test numbers in almost all US and Canadian area codes.

An area code outside the 958 or 959 range (e.g. 200, 997, 998, 999) was also often listed as a test exchange, only to be later reclaimed and issued as a standard number block. NANPA’s Used Codes report shows ‘UA’ (unassignable) for valid test prefixes; If a former ‘UA’ code reappears on the available list or becomes an active exchange, all previous test numbers from its reserved prefix days will be considered invalid and obsolete. N11 prefixes such as 211, 311, and 511 are also disappearing as test numbers as these codes are reassigned to local services such as city, township, or highway information.

There is also an enhanced ANAC service to identify which carrier is handling calls. Dialing these numbers causes the local exchange to announce which carrier calls for a particular call category are routed through.

What is recall?

Ring Back eliminates the frustration of having to redial a busy number over and over again. If you’re calling a busy number, simply dial ‘5’ and Ring Back will call you when the number becomes available.

How much is it?

You can either pay every time you use this feature or pay monthly.

One-time use costs 65p.

The monthly cost depends on how many calling features you have from the features offered in the calling features package. A minimum term of 30 days applies. Line Rental Plus customers can opt for the Calling Feature Pack at no additional cost.

One calling feature – £5.82 per month

Two to four calling features – £10.31 per month

Five or more calling features – £13.49 per month

How do I set up the callback function?

If you hear a busy signal, press 5 on your phone keypad to request a callback. Wait for a message confirming that your callback request was successful before hanging up the phone.

The network then monitors the busy number for up to 45 minutes until it becomes free. Your phone will then ring with a special distinctive ringtone – just pick up your handset to be connected.

My callback was accepted but I was not called back – why not?

The callback service monitors a busy line for a maximum of 45 minutes, after which the connection is automatically disconnected.

We will not charge you if a callback is unsuccessful. However, you will be billed for your callback request when you receive the callback, regardless of whether that call ended successfully or not.

How can I check if there is a callback request on my phone?

To check if ringback is on, press the asterisk (*) key on your phone keypad, followed by the pound key (#), the number 37, and then the pound key again.

Why does nothing happen when I press “5” to request a callback?

If nothing happens when you press 5 for callback, check if your phone is set to tone dialing. If the phone is set up correctly, you should get an answer or unreachable message.

If the phone doesn’t have tone dialing or is definitely set to tone dialing and still doesn’t answer the request, please try another phone.

Are there situations where call back doesn’t work?

Callback is not available for the following call types:

International calls

Calls to other licensed operator numbers that do not have a callback agreement with BT

Calls to Direct Dialing In (DDI) and Integrated Switched Digital Network (ISDN) numbers

Calls with a BT charge card

Sometimes when I pick up the call I get a busy signal. Why?

This indicates that the called party is making another outgoing call. This is very likely to be the case in high-traffic lines of business such as doctor’s offices, etc.

You pick up your Samsung® phone and see a notification for five missed calls—even though your device didn’t ring. Is there something wrong with that?

Why your Samsung phone won’t ring for incoming calls

Muted calls doesn’t necessarily mean you have a big problem with your phone. There are various reasons why your Android phone won’t ring when someone calls, including:

Your ringer volume is turned down.

Your phone is in Do Not Disturb or Airplane mode.

You have activated call forwarding.

Your phone is paired with Bluetooth®.

There is a problem with a third-party ringtone.

The speaker connector is clogged.

Your phone is infected with malware.

Your phone is physically damaged.

Check your phone for dust, dirt and damage

First, look at your device and look for any damage like dents or cracks – this could be a sign that your phone may need to be replaced, but we’ll wait until we’ve tried a few other fixes. Next, check the speaker connector for dust or dirt, which you can easily remove by blowing it off or cleaning it with a cotton swab dipped in a drop of rubbing alcohol.

Restart your phone

Whether it’s a Samsung not ringing or any other Android device, try restarting your phone for a quick and easy fix.

Samsung phones:

Press and hold the power button until you see the power off prompt. Tap Restart, then tap Restart again to confirm.

Other Android phones:

Press and hold the power button until you see the options menu. Tap Restart.

Check your volume settings

If a simple restart doesn’t work, it could be a problem with your ringer volume, especially if you’re still listening to other media like music or videos. To check your volume settings:

Samsung:

Open settings. Tap Sound & Vibration. Tap Volume. Drag the ringtone bar to the right to increase the volume.

Other Android:

Open settings. Tap Sound & vibration. Drag the ring and notification volume to the right to increase it.

Turn off silent or do not disturb mode

You can temporarily silence your ringtone and pings from texts with Silent or Do Not Disturb mode. Once you enable this feature, you need to turn it off to get your phone to ring again.

Samsung:

Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the quick settings panel. Tap the Do Not Disturb icon to turn it off (it should be greyed out when off and blue when on).

Other Android:

Open settings. Tap Notifications > Do Not Disturb. Check if the setting is disabled. If it doesn’t, tap the Deactivate Now button. Check schedule settings and other settings to make sure they won’t be activated later.

Make sure Airplane mode is turned off

If you put your device on airplane mode during a flight and forgot to turn it off upon landing, your phone won’t ring. How to turn it off:

Samsung:

With your device unlocked, swipe down from the top of the screen to open quick settings and check if Airplane mode is on. If that’s the case, tap Airplane mode to turn it off (it should be greyed out if it’s off).

Other Android:

With your device unlocked, swipe down from the top of the screen to see your quick settings. Check Airplane mode to see if it’s turned off. If it’s on, tap the setting to turn it off.

Make sure call forwarding is not enabled

Samsung phones include a call forwarding option in the Settings app. You might even have it enabled to record voicemails by using a third-party app like Google Voice.

How to check if call forwarding is enabled on your device.

Open the Phone app. Tap on the three vertical dots in the top right corner. Tap Settings > Additional Services > Call Forwarding. If a phone number is listed under Always forward, tap Always forward, then tap Turn off.

If call forwarding options are enabled, turn them off.

Check Bluetooth

If you have paired your Android phone with headphones or earbuds and are not using them, you will not hear your phone ring. To disable Bluetooth pairing:

Samsung:

Open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth. Tap the three vertical dots in the top-right corner, then tap Advanced > Block pairing requests.

Other Android:

Swipe down from the top of the screen to open quick settings and tap Bluetooth to turn it off.

Remove third party ringtones

Third-party ringtones sometimes contain a software bug that can cause your phone not to ring. If you downloaded one, that could be the problem. As much as you love the sound of a duck quacking when your mom calls, try going back to a default ringtone on your phone. Here’s how to do it on most Android devices:

Open the Settings app. Choose Tone or Tones and vibration. Tap Ringtone or Ringtone. Select one of the preloaded ringtones – you may need to press OK or Save.

Perform a factory reset

If you’ve gone through all these options and your Samsung Galaxy or other Android phone still won’t ring, try performing a factory reset to restore your device to its original factory settings.
