Can melin hats get wet?

Specifically, the HYDRO has a moisture-wicking lining, which is why it doesn’t start to wear down when it gets wet or sweaty. There’s a nifty little hidden pocket inside the lining and the side panels are perforated, making it a fairly functional workout hat.

What is the pocket for in my melin hat?

It also features a tiny besom pocket, like the ones commonly found in suit jackets. It’s heavily perforated to keep airflow constant, to help the major head-sweaters from ruining another hat. Look long and hard for another perforated hat on the PGA Tour other than the one Mickelson now sports.

Can I wash a hat in the washing machine?

Baseball caps made of cotton twill or a similar material can typically go in the washing machine as long as they do not have a cardboard or paper-filled bill. Other types of hats that might need washing include knit caps and straw hats, especially those worn outdoors to keep the sun off your face.

Hats tend to get quite dirty if not cleaned often. So if you’re wondering how to wash a hat, wonder no more. It is actually quite simple. It’s actually quite easy to figure out how to remove sweat stains from hats. The most common hats that need washing are baseball caps, which range from newer hats made from cotton twill — which is super durable and holds its color well — to wool caps and commemorative caps. Wool hats must be hand washed with cold water and a mild detergent. Baseball caps made of cotton twill or a similar material are usually machine washable, as long as they don’t have a cardboard or paper-filled visor. Other types of hats that may need washing are knit hats and straw hats, especially those worn outdoors to keep the sun off your face. Knit hats usually need to be hand washed, although you can wash them in a laundry bag if you can’t bear the thought of hand washing yours. Straw sun hats are the easiest to clean – just spray them down with a hose and let them air dry. Any type of structured hat should be spot cleaned if possible to prevent it from losing its shape. If you hand wash a hat, fill the sink with cold water and add a few drops of good quality detergent. Slosh the liquid enough to create foam before placing the hat in the sink. For knit hats, gently submerge and dip a few times to ensure the water flows through the hat. Rinse clean, very gently wring out excess water with your hands, roll the hat in a towel to get any remaining moisture out, then lay flat to dry. If it’s a shaped hat, stuff it with plastic bags to help it hold its shape. Pretreat particularly dirty areas (like the sweatband, if applicable) with a solvent-based spray or heavy-duty detergent. Wash the cap in cold water on a gentle cycle. DO NOT put the hat in the dryer. Instead, let them air dry. But how do you wash hats in the washing machine without losing their shape? You can purchase a cap washer or similar product to help the cap hold its shape in the washing machine. You can also air dry it over a large coffee can or similar item.

Can you put caps in the washing machine?

Don’t put caps into the laundry — either the washer or dryer. A high-efficiency washer that doesn’t have a center agitating column can be okay, but even then it has to be cool water on the gentlest cycle, and you also have to be concerned about other clothes in the load squishing the hat’s form.

Quick Answer: How To Wash Melin Hat

After a few years of heavy use, my dirty baseball caps have been known to just go in the trash instead of being washed. I had tried the folklore-style top rack route, but it had never given me great results. The hats came out misshapen, seemingly discolored and only partially cleaned.

But I did some digging and discovered a far better and gentler way to clean that old ball cap that will freshen it up, brighten it and add years to its life. And best of all, it’s largely hands-free.

Lucky for you readers, I had some very gross hats to run some tests on. Let’s dive in.

General hat washing tips

Do not put caps in the laundry – neither in the washing machine nor in the dryer. A high-efficiency washing machine without a central agitation column may be fine, but even then it has to be cool water on the gentlest cycle, and you also have to worry about other clothes in the load crushing the hat’s shape. Dryers are too hot and tumbling isn’t good for shape. Better to avoid the washing machines altogether.

Do not use products with bleach; You want your ball cap colors to stay beautiful and bright for years to come.

; You want your ball cap colors to stay beautiful and bright for years to come. Dispelling the dishwasher myth. You’ve probably heard that you can throw caps in the dishwasher on the top rack. Do not do that. Dishwashing detergents often contain bleach, and the machine usually runs on high heat (both for washing and drying), which can also damage the hat.

You’ve probably heard that you can throw caps in the dishwasher on the top rack. Do not do that. Dishwashing detergents often contain bleach, and the machine usually runs on high heat (both for washing and drying), which can also damage the hat. Hand washing is really the best way to preserve both the color and shape of the hat.

The best way to wash a baseball cap

1. Fill a clean sink or bucket with warm water. Err on the side of cool versus hot.

2. Add a tablespoon of detergent or OxiClean when filling. Dish soap can do in a pinch, but laundry detergent or a special stain-fighting treatment like OxiClean is stronger and will work harder to remove the stains from the fibers of the hat.

3. Spot clean the hat first if necessary. If there are areas that are particularly problematic, spot clean them with a dab of detergent directly on the cap. After first submerging the hat in the water in your bucket or sink, use a toothbrush or other small scrubbing brush to rub the cleaner into the fabric. I saw a tip to use shampoo on sweat stains; I tried it on one of my hats and the results were pretty spectacular. The bill was free of sweat stains, while the back (where I didn’t use shampoo) remained pretty gross after cleaning:

A note here: be extra careful with thread stitching. If you are too vigorous, the seams may become misaligned and the artwork may be damaged.

4. Let the hat soak for up to a few hours. After stain washing, let the hat soak in whatever bucket or sink you filled with soapy water for up to a couple of hours, although I’ve found even as little as 20-30 minutes will get the job done. Halfway through the soak, take a look at the cap and see what the stains look like. Although the wetted fabric will hide some stains, they will still show through if they are bad. Use your little mop, spot wash those stubborn problem areas again, and again be careful with embroidered patterns and logos.

5. Rinse off all soap with warm water. Rinse the hat well before letting it dry.

6. Pat with a towel to get rid of excess moisture. The hat will of course be very wet when you take it out of the water; Drain off some of the excess, then towel dry as best you can while maintaining the shape of the hat and being gentle with logos. Your goal here is simply to get rid of the excess so it can dry on a counter without water dripping all over the place.

7. Always air dry on some sort of container. You want to find a way to dry the hat so it’s not just crumpled up on the counter. Find a coffee pot, a canister, a rolled up towel, or maybe any mannequin heads you have lying around to put on. This will ensure that the hat retains its shape and does not wrinkle. Also throw a towel under the bin; No matter how much you pat, I’ve found there will always be some dripping. If you want to speed things up, use a small fan to blow air over it, or a blow dryer on low.

Tips for cleaning wool hats

Wool hats are slightly more delicate than traditional cotton or mesh hats. The discontinued AoM cap (if you have one, keep it, it’s a vintage collectible now!) For example, it’s made of wool and just needs a little extra care to clean. Instead of standard detergents or cleaners, find something made specifically for wool and soak it as above.

Be sure to be extra gentle when scrubbing; If you are too coarse, the wool can become matted and resemble felt. You do not want that.

Finally, as you dry the hat, pat it dry to remove excess moisture, then consider actually wearing it to dry the rest of the way. It will probably be a bit uncomfortable, but the shape will fit your head snugly, not just any coffee bean container. Wool hats are notorious for losing their shape after washing, so take extra care.

Tips for cleaning older hats

If your hat is over 20 years old, there’s a good chance it’s made from different, less durable materials than today’s hats, both in the visor and cap. Believe it or not, banknotes used to be made out of cardboard rather than today’s more forgiving plastics.

The first thing to do when cleaning an old cap is color test it. The vast majority of hats today are colorfast, meaning they have a blend that helps them hold their color with washes. However, old caps do not always have this. To test, rub a small amount of cleaner onto the bottom of the bill with a rag. If the rag does get some color off, all you have to do is use water to clean the cap and just do the best you can. If the rag comes off clean, you can use detergent.

As for the actual washing, only clean stains, especially if you are unsure about the billing material. Soaking an old cardboard bill in water will obviously ruin it. And old hats are just generally less durable than today’s. Use a small scrubbing brush and hand clean any problem areas.

The judgment

My hats came out much cleaner after this hand washing method. I tested various methods including not washing the middle black and white cap. The stains are still visible on the bill, and the white isn’t as white as the freshly cleaned “playoffs” baseball cap to the left. The OxiClean really brightened the colors. You will also notice on this playoffs cap that the bill stains are almost completely gone. They’re still faintly visible, but it’s a lot better than before.

The gray cap on the right is a lot better too, although as you saw above the back is still a bit gross because I didn’t stain it. Lesson: spot cleaning is a must for particularly troublesome areas.

When your favorite baseball cap gets dirty from a few too many summer sweats, hand wash it thoroughly and you can take it to many extra innings.

frequently asked Questions

Can you put your hat in the washing machine?

No, a washing machine will only damage your baseball cap.

Can you put your hat in the dishwasher?

No, dishwashing liquids are much harsher than clothes detergents, so putting it in the dishwasher will ruin your hat. Also, the heat in a dishwasher can damage and shrink your hat.

About Melin hats

For many men, a hat is more of an accessory than an accessory, especially for those who engage in outdoor activities. Headgear is a must-have for outdoor men, but it tends to be uncomfortable, be a moisture magnet, or look terrible after just a few wears.

Technically superior, Melin Hats is reportedly a head ahead of all other caps. Melin Hats is particularly popular with sports media and is regularly featured in outlets such as Golf Digest, SurferToday and Gear Junkie.

Her collaborations with golfer Phil Mickelson and racer Daniel Ricciardo shows that people are starting to really pay attention to this brand. They have nearly 36,000 followers on Facebook and around 170,000 on Instagram.

In this Melin Hats review, I will take an in-depth look at why people tip their hats to these amazing hats. I’ll definitely be checking out the brand’s promotions, products, customer testimonials and more, so stay tuned.

Overview of Melin Hats

What’s in a hat? For Corey Roth and Brian McDonell, the answer is everything. Growing up in Southern California, these guys loved outdoor activities that made them sweat or got them in the water.

They also enjoyed social life with nightclubs and concerts, but there was always one constant in their lives – wearing hats.

While they loved hats, they were always disappointed by the lack of attention to detail and/or cheapness of the brands available. They couldn’t wear the same hats during the day as they did at night because their heads would sweat and leave white spots and the water would warp them or simply swallow them when the hats got soaked and sank. Dilemmas, dilemmas.

Roth and McDonell spent four years learning the ancient millinery arts and sourcing the best fabric in the world to make a better hat.

Their goal was to find a way to make comfortable, water-repellent, and sweat-resistant headgear. They also wanted to make the hats high quality and still look good after wearing them for a long time.

In 2013, the couple was finally ready to launch the new brand. With attention to detail in the hats, but also in their presentation, they have turned another page in the history of hats by sending each hat in its own hatbox. They design the hats in California, source the fabrics from around the world and make them in China.

All hats are made of high quality fabrics and construction and are available in three collections for different needs, such as Hydro (water resistance), Thermal (heat) and Infinite (additional heat and water resistance).

Before we really get into the details of these exceptional hats in this Melin Hats review, let’s take a look at some of the things that make this brand the best brand for making comfortable and superior headwear:

Although any hat can protect you from the sun, it will not always protect you from sunstroke as your head heats up under the hat. With that in mind, this is Melin Hat’s first piece of great yet simple technology.

With holes in the hats, your head can release heat and breathe. The second is the moisture wicking properties which prevent sweat from ruining your hat and showing white patches.

Another innovation is the waterproof materials and floating brim core of the Hydro line. Going forward with my Melin Hats review I will be taking a closer look at some of the hats from the best selling Hydro collection.

Melin Hat’s A-Game Hydro Review

Melin Hat’s A-Game Hydro

The Melin Hats A-Game Hydro is a game changer as it is ideal for any activity in the sun, rain or water. Versatile, much?

It has a traditional baseball cap shape with a slight curve at the brim for a modern style. The shape makes them ideal for men or for women. Like all Melin hats it has a snapback closure to keep things snug and secure. You can put an amazing lid on it for $59.

Melin Hats Trenches Icon Hydro Review

Melin Hats Trenches Icon Hydro

Melin Hats Trenches Icon Hydro makes it easy to delve into a hat that fits a larger head. With the same features as the A-Game Hydro, this cap is ideal for those with a larger noggin or a rounder face.

It has a flat bill and a horizontal seam that follows the natural contours of your head. Since it is fitted to your head, that ugly red line on your forehead is history.

As with all hydro-caps, it is available in a full range of colors from bold to neutral. Get one (or three, I won’t judge) for $59.

Melin Hat’s Odyssey Brick Hydro review

Melin Hats Odyssey Brick Hydro

Fan of the trucker style cap? Melin has you covered with the unisex Melin Hats Odyssey Brick Hydro. It has a split style with the stitching going down only partially to leave room for a logo on the forehead.

Visually, this cap comes with the Melin Hats logo. The brim is slightly curved and shares the same characteristics as the others in the Hydro line.

Say “10-4 good buddy” to this durable and stylish $59 cap.

Who is Melin Hats for?

While writing this Melin Hats review, I realized that these beanies are for anyone who spends time in hats, be it for work, play, or just lounging. Many of their hats are unisex, but don’t let that stop you if you find a hat you like.

With different styles to suit the variety of head types in the world and many features for alternative needs, there is definitely something for everyone.

People who are often outdoors can use these hats no matter what they are doing. With thermal and hydro elements you are protected in cold and hot weather, in the water or not.

Oh, and for surfers this is a must have to protect you from the sun and prevent losing your cap on a gnarly wave.

Melin Hat’s Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Okay now for the fun part of this Melin Hats review, what are the customers really thinking? Let’s start with the reviews of the awesome caps I looked at in this article:

Melin A Game Hydro – 1,890 reviews – 4.6/5 stars

– 1,890 reviews – Melin Trenches Icon Hydro – 1,111 reviews – 4.7/5 stars

– 1,111 reviews – Melin Odyssey Brick Hydro – 284 reviews – 4.8/5 stars

As you can see they all have excellent reviews and almost everyone is amazed at how well these hats fit.

Regardless of the shape or size of your head, unless you are bald, you are likely to suffer from the annular indentation left by caps, which is most noticeable over the forehead. Then it’s all about the head. Sometimes it just looks bad, and sometimes it’s just painful.

This review of Melin Hats by a customer on their website went from acceptance to excitement when they found a hat that fit their head. They further explain:

“FINALLY A HAT FOR MY HUGE HEAD I have a huge, slightly odd shaped head. I have accepted this fact and I agree with it. The theme was always hats. I can never find one that fits right and looks good. This was the first hat to do that. With so many colors to choose from, I’ll definitely buy another one.”

Melin Hats are among the most expensive you can buy, but they offer so much more than any other hat. With innovative design features, high durability and a fashionable look, these hats will get you through almost any situation.

Moving on to Facebook, the brand received a score of 4.4/5 stars from 106 reviews. Check out this review of Melin Hats on the website:

“The best hats I’ve ever worn! Down to the quality of materials, innovation and attention to detail; You won’t be able to buy just one. I’ve worn these hats when fishing, diving, working, exercising, traveling etc. And they continue to look 100’s. Don’t be fooled by imitators either. You get what you pay for!”

Wow, they seem pretty impressed but I’m wondering if they know the secret behind these caps. Each cap has a broom pocket that allows you to carry small items like a house or car key. Brilliant.

In addition to great water features, these caps are moisture wicking to keep you comfortable with whatever makes you sweat. The Trenches Icon Hydro on Amazon has a score of 4.3/5 stars from 532 reviews that have put it to the test in training and been satisfied.

That being said, I think the lack of funky smells mentioned by this customer is perhaps its best attribute:

“…decided to save some money and try these Melins. I’ve had it for a few weeks and it’s great! Keeps the sweat off my face. No sign of smell either. No problem wearing it to the gym and even after! Plan to buy a thermal jacket for every day when it’s cold. I will also buy the camouflage ones for next hunting season when it is hot.”

Before I wrap up this section, I can’t help but share this caption from The Inertia’s Melin Hats review: “I tried to destroy Melin’s buoyant, water-resistant hat (but can’t).”

Is Melin Hats worth it?

To conclude this Melin Hats review, without a doubt, this brand is absolutely worth your money whether you are on a budget or not. Spending $30 more is nothing when you know these caps should last and look almost brand new.

As I showed in the previous section, this durability has been tested by many who have literally smashed their caps in. It’s safe to say they’re made to last.

Along with fantastic durability, properties like water repellency and heat retention make it ideal for those who spend time outdoors.

Breathability is good for all situations and sweat control helps keep your hat looking great and not smelling like a gym. Perhaps one of the best features is that they really and comfortably fit all heads, regardless of your preferences.

How do I clean my hat?

Fill a basin or sink with soapy water, using either detergent or dish soap. Hand-wash the hat by soaking the whole thing in the basin for around 10 minutes and then swishing it around a bit. If your hat is particularly gnarly, you may need to replace the water (not that I would know from experience).

Welcome to Detroit aka Motor City aka The D aka Motown aka The 313 aka Detroit has many nicknames but we can move on now.

Detroit is home to some of the most passionate automotive gearheads in the world, but this story is for golf gear gearheads. Motorists are still welcome to read, you just need to set your expectations; This is about golf clubs.

When the PGA Tour headed to Detroit Golf Club for the 2022 Rocket Mortgage, GolfWRX was there live during practice days to find out which clubs the pros are playing, what changes they’re making and why.

No point in wasting any more time on the intro, let’s dive straight into this week’s tour report.

Tony Finau’s funny reason for rotating golf ball markers between holes

Tony Finau, fresh off his 3M Open win last week, spoke to GolfWRX at Rocket Mortgage about his golf ball markings.

Its unique markings are twofold:

The five-line markers on the side help Finau with aiming, alignment and shot feedback. He marks the front of the golf ball with the initials of one of his five children.

But how does Finau decide which child to portray on his golf ball? His explanation is hilarious.

“I start with one (kid) and see how they do,” Finau told GolfWRX at the Rocket Mortgage Classic on Tuesday. “If they don’t do well, I just swap them out. I’m pretty forgiving, I’ll give them some time, but right out of the gate if it’s lip-out and lip-out in a couple of holes, it’s next.

“The good thing is that I have five children, so usually at least one of them works.”

Webb Simpson goes back to the classics

Simpson was in our equipment news in May thanks to his switch to Titleist T100 irons. The switch was notable as Simpson has always favored blade irons throughout his career, but the T100’s are cavity backs.

Well, the switch didn’t seem to be a long-term one, as Simpson had swapped out the T100 irons for his old Titleist 680 Forged MB irons, first introduced to the public in 2003. He told GolfWRX he made the switch just weeks after the 2022 PGA Championship because the T100s were just too hot.

Find out why Simpson uses a “5.5 iron” or see more photos of Simpson’s irons on our GolfWRX forums

Rickie Fowler uses his putter “Tiger Woods”.

After timeouting his classic putter and a year of constant experimentation, Fowler has returned to his Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS prototype putter.

He switched back to the putter at the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open, but we caught up with Fowler in Detroit this week to find out why.

“I just completed his course (with the previous putters) and I’m ready to get back to the familiar,” Fowler told GolfWRX.com on Wednesday. “I mean, I’ve done it my entire career, have something for a while, then go back to something else, change it.

“She might have needed a little time off, but hopefully she’ll warm up.”

Fowler first used the putter in 2014 and what makes the putter so special is that it actually comes from a stock of German Stainless Steel (GSS) putters that were saved for Tiger Woods. Yes, that means Fowler’s Scotty Cameron putter was made for Tiger, but with the proper credentials, Fowler was able to borrow one. Eight years later, it’s still in the game.

Also a quick moment of appreciation for GolfWRX photographer Greg Moore. The fact that he hand-held photos of Fowler’s original putter in 2014 and again in 2022 is a testament to how long he’s been providing GolfWRX with the best WITB photos on the web.

We had some news at Rocket Mortgage Classic 2022 this week. Check out our TikTok post below for everything we know about the invisible irons:

Geoff Ogilvy, a putter update

When I saw Geoff Ogilvy’s name on the field list for the 2022 Rocket mortgage, I couldn’t wait to see which putter he had in his pocket. Ogilvy “scratches the itch” by playing golf twice in the past three weeks after a four-year hiatus.

However, GolfWRX hasn’t caught Ogilvy in four years, and we’ve always known he has a great putter. He didn’t disappoint.

OK, so maybe it’s not as cool as his rusted Scotty Cameron he used back then…

But it’s still great to see Ogilvy back on the PGA Tour and get the ball rolling with some Scotty Cameron heat.

Sahith Theegala testing a… mallet putter?

On Tuesday, Theegala, who is usually a blade putter user, was on the practice greens hitting putts on it with a custom Ping PLD mallet putter with five different alignment lines.

“Hmm, that’s weird,” I thought to myself.

As it turns out, it’s actually pretty weird for him. Theegala told me Tuesday that he’s only used a mallet putter for two rounds in his life, and both rounds came at last year’s Korn Ferry Tour finals.

Although he wasn’t positive about the switch, he called it more of a 1-2 week experiment. We’ll have to keep an eye on Theegala over the next few weeks to see what he decides in the end.

And with that we say goodbye to the Motor City. See you next week in Greensboro, NC for the 2022 Wyndham Championship.

And while a broken and dented cap can have character, you should still clean it. The good news is that you can clean a baseball cap with things you probably already have at home.

I’ve Been Trying to Destroy Melin’s Floatable, Water-Repellant Hat (But Can’t)

I know I’m not the only guy in the world who guiltily clings to a favorite hat or that “lucky hat” for one touch too long. It’s definitely a man thing: find a piece of clothing you’re comfortable in and wear it forever. Always. rain or shine. That’s great when the thing is brand new and fresh, but eventually it gets embarrassing. You’ve innocently beat it up over time by wearing the thing every day, and what was once a nice hat is now a ragged, floppy headgear with no shape but with loads of sentimental value. Nine times out of ten it has a huge white ring around the crown from all that sweat – the last nail in the coffin. Your favorite hat is dead.

For all of these reasons, when a tiny package arrived from headwear brand Melin a few weeks ago, I took what they sent as a personal challenge. In the box was a TRENCCHES HYDRO cap, a solid black, 6-panel, flat-brim snapback that was advertised as water-resistant and buoyant.

The premium hat company that just landed Phil Mickelson as a partner

When a hat costs twice the industry average, take a closer look. There’s probably a reason for this.

For the folks at Melin Headwear – the company that has just partnered with Phil Mickelson – there are at least 18 reasons. So many pieces make up her premium hat.

The brand has been around for six years but is just making the leap into golf. President Brian McDonell took apart the classic ball cap and intended to improve every piece, from the construction of the bill to the thread that holds it all together.

What Melin converted – the so-called A-Game – is particularly high-tech for a hat company and thus creates an above-average price point. Imagine for a second that their hats are based on recipes where every ingredient is an upgrade over the regular golf hat.

The bill is made of resin, not cardboard, and is less dense than water, so if dropped in the lake it will float.

The outer material repels water. Stay tuned for Mickelson to play in the rain sometime this season.

The lower beak has a non-glare material. It also has a rubber grommet that acts as a safety net for handling the hat when your hands get dirty (remember how often your thumbs clean your club face).

The sweatband is triple-quilted to grab, grab, and grab sweat and salt to keep it from getting into other parts of the hat.

The inner fabric creates another sweat-wicking pocket to keep the front of your hat clean. It also features a tiny broom pocket commonly found in suit jackets.

It’s heavily perforated to keep airflow consistent and help those big hats ruin another hat. Search long and hard for a different perforated hat on the PGA Tour than the one Mickelson wears now. You will have trouble finding one.

When you add it all up, the hats are promised to last five times longer than typical golf hats.

Melin launched the A-Game hat this week, but those who follow the pro game closely caught it on Mickelson’s head during his 2020 debut on American Express last week. According to McDonell, Mickelson first received the brand’s hat as a gift from his wife Amy, fell in love with the gear and quickly expressed interest in a partnership.

The hats retail for $59 and can be purchased online or found at high-end golf resorts. (Think Bandon, Pebble, Pinehurst, etc.) This is the type of golfer Melin wants to appeal to – the players who want a hat they can wear again and again. And the kind of people who chase rounds on world-class golf courses.

If you’re a Rope Hat fan, don’t worry. You’ll have one of these soon.
