I STANDED BY YOUR BED LAST NIGHT
I stood by your bed last night, I came to take a look.
I could see you cry
You found it difficult to sleep.
I whined to you so quietly
When you wiped away a tear
“It’s me, I didn’t leave you –
I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m here.”
I was near you at breakfast
I watched you pour the tea.
You’ve thought of the many times
Your hands reached me
I went to the shops with you today
your arms hurt
I longed to take your packages
I wish I could do more.
I was with you today at my grave
You take care of it with such care.
I want to assure you that I’m not lying about that.
I went to the house with you
When you were looking for your keys.
I gently lay my paw on you,
I smiled and said, “It’s me.”
You looked so tired and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to tell you
that I was standing there
It’s possible for me to be so close to you every day.
To tell you with certainty: “I never walked away.”
You sat very still, then you smiled
I think you knew…
In the stillness of that evening
i was very close to you
The day is over now…
I smile and see you yawn
And say, “Good night, God bless you,
We’ll see you in the morning.”
And when the time is right for you
to cross the short chasm,
I’ll rush over to greet you
And we will stand side by side.
I have so many things to show you
There is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out….
Then come home to be with me.

I usually see what I can find before posting articles like this. I have no specific recollections of searching for the author of this work, but today (January 20, 2015) I found it on many websites showing "author unknown". I am not posting these to show that I am not guilty, but perhaps to share the guilt with others. I assume Colleen Fitzsimmons also wrote to these people.
