Scotch whiskey must be made in Scotland. It is made from malted barley and other grains. Depending on the grain composition, Scotch can be single malt or blended malt, single or blended grain, or blended. Canadian whiskey does not have these distinctions.

Bourbon is a type of American whiskey that must contain at least 51 percent corn. While it may contain other grains such as rye, barley, or malt, it must contain nothing but mash, yeast, and water. And to be called bourbon, it has to be made in the United States.

How to plant, care for and propagate your pineapples
Most novice pineapple growers begin by planting the tops of store-bought pineapples.
It’s a good way to play around and doesn’t cost anything. If you eat pineapple, the tops will be left over anyway.
However, growing pineapple tops is a slow way to grow pineapples. Tops take at least 24 months to flower, and then it takes another six months for the fruit to ripen.
Suckers (or puppies) and panties mature and fertilize much faster. You may have to wait for your first top growth plants to produce such offspring.
But if you live in a pineapple growing area, you should be able to get some suckers. Beg or steal them from one of the breeders. Heck, buy some if you must!

Growing pineapples from suckers
A pineapple plant flowers only once and produces one pineapple. Then it dies. But before it dies, it also produces offspring.
Suckers or pups are small seedling that grow between the leaves of the ripe pineapple.
Some strains produce more suckers than others, some start earlier and some later.
But they all produce at least a few suckers or pups before they die.
Leaving the suction cups in place will result in what is known as a “ratoon crop”. This is the least effort for the next harvest, just do nothing. But it has a few downsides.
Plants begin to crowd each other out and compete for food, light, and water. As a result, the next batch of pineapple fruit will be much smaller.
The other downside is that if you leave the suction cups in place, you’ll only get a few. The original pineapple plant thinks it has fulfilled its purpose in life and reproduced, and it dies.
Keep removing the suction cups and the plant will grow more and more from them.
The timing is not critical. I accidentally snapped off tiny baby plants and they survived. However, it is best to wait until they are a reasonable size, say around 20cm/8 inches long.
Once they look like the picture above, it’s definitely time to take them.
I just walk around my yard every two or three months and remove any large suckers I see. Grab them as close to the base as possible and twist and pull at the same time. They usually come off easily. And then plant them like you plant pineapple tops. Just stick them in the ground. You will grow :-).

Pineapple Briefs… In my early pineapple growing days I could never figure out what or where they were supposed to be!

Store-bought pineapples in Australia are usually of the “Smooth Cayenne” variety and they grow few, if any, cuttings. (They also produce few suckers and take a long time to do so.)
At some point I managed to get hold of another variety, the “Rough Cayenne”. (You can’t find this in our stores, I got it from a friend). The Rough Cayenne produces much smaller but very tasty fruits, it has very prickly leaves and lots of runners under the fruits.
Notes can be carefully snapped into place or removed. Do it as soon as they’re big enough to handle (let’s say about 10-15 cm/4-6 inches) as slips will develop at the expense of the fruit! This means if you leave them on, your fruit will get smaller.
Plant them the same way you plant tops and suckers.
Your pineapple plant will not produce more offshoots when you remove them like suckers do. Once you take the slips off, you’re done and the plant will put all of its energy into the fruit.
Pineapple Growing Strategies
I imagine that you start by carefully planting out each individual stolon and producing your pineapple plants. I sure have. But soon your garden will be full of pineapples and you can afford to be more selective.
Tag the plants that produced the biggest, sweetest, juiciest fruit so you know these suckers are worth planting.
Avoid the plants that produce long fruiting stalks like the ones in the picture below. The fruit should grow as low as possible or it will simply fall over and get sunburned.
While it’s tempting to initially choose plants that produce lots of offshoots, keep in mind that the offshoot will develop at the expense of the fruit. You’ll get bigger, better fruit from plants that produce fewer offshoots.
Pineapple plants have a tiny root system and rely heavily on their leaves for water and nutrition. Therefore, they do not mind being dug up and transplanted.
You can use this to your advantage by planting your little suckers and knickers in a “crib”. They won’t stay there long, so feel free to plant them very close together.
Wait until they are about 30cm tall before planting in their final position. That way, all of the pineapples in a clump or row are similar in size and you don’t get the big pineapples crowding and shadowing the small ones.
(I don’t have a photo of it because I’m too lazy to, but it sure is a smart strategy. Maybe I should give it a try…)
Smooth Cayenne is by far the most popular variety around the world and the most widely available in stores. It is a very reliable producer of large and great tasting fruits and it has the smoothest leaves.
(Anyone who hasn’t mulched their pineapple well and is struggling with weeds in between will learn to appreciate this very quickly!)
Some of the best-tasting pineapple varieties don’t ship or don’t keep well, and you can’t usually find them in stores. So if you see some or know someone who grows them, go get them. This might be a little tricky in Australia, but there are hundreds of strains across America.
There are also red pineapples, blue pineapples, pineapples with variegated leaves, miniature pineapples, all sorts of pretty and interesting varieties. Have fun trying. Just because they’re so delicious doesn’t mean you have to ignore their beauty!

You might want to start with two at once, since it’s impossible to tell in advance which ones will be successful.

What to expect
How long does it take to grow a pineapple? It takes at least 2 to 3 years for a pineapple houseplant to start flowering and bear fruit when growing conditions are optimal.
Step one is to grow the top into a houseplant where it will take up to two years to mature.
From there, only when the growing conditions are optimal, the plant will send up a stalk that will flower and gradually bear fruit. This is usually a small pineapple.
But that can be a challenge, especially in a cooler climate with long winters, unless you also provide grow lights.
Some indoor pineapple plants never flower or produce fruit, but grow quite tall (up to 6 feet tall indoors). Others stay fairly small when light levels are lower than desired or the pot is only a few gallons.
The fastest growing pineapple plant I’ve seen was propagated from above using the same method shown in the instructions (below). The plant was kept in a bright, south-facing window that received full sun here in Canada.
Despite lower light levels in the fall and winter, after three years the plant was several feet tall and producing its first fruit. That’s as fast as you can expect indoors in a cold climate when the conditions are right.

How to grow a pineapple top
1 Choose a healthy pineapple
Choose a healthy, ripe pineapple.
Look for healthy, bright green leaves (not all gray or brown) with no signs of disease or insects.
Ripeness is indicated by the gold color that forms from the base: the more gold, the sweeter (and riper) the pineapple.
Overripe pineapples are orange and have a fermented fruit odor.
It is certain that a branded pineapple at the grocery store is sufficiently ripe.
2 Remove upper part
Remove the top by firmly grasping the leaves and twisting. The crown detaches from the base.
It will look like this:
The base is now ready for carving and eating.
The crown is ready for peeling, drying and rooting.
3 Remove bottom sheets
Peel off several layers of leaves from the base of the crown, exposing about 1-2 inches. You will see small brown nodules that have obscured the leaves. New roots sprout from these tubers.
In tropical climates, home gardeners can simply plant this directly in the ground. But for container growing, it is best to follow the next steps.

4 Dry crown
Lay the crown on its side and let it dry out of direct sun for 1-2 days.
The idea is to make the crown less susceptible to disease. Some gardeners skip this step and place the crown direction in water as shown in step 5.
Next: You can root the plant directly in moist potting soil or use the water method shown below.

Place the crown in a glass of clean, warm water, submerging only the leaf-free area in the water. A mason jar works well for this.
Keep the crown out of direct sun during the rooting process.
Change the water every other day. You want to keep the water clean and fresh.
Don’t worry about the leaves starting to dry out and turn brown. That is normal. Some stay green, some don’t.
If the plant does not take root, the crown can suddenly dry out completely. If so, try a different pineapple.

Here is the crown after 3 weeks in the water. Remember to change the glass of water every other day.
6 plants in potting soil
After about a month, when you have lots of nice long roots (3″ or more), transplant the crown into succulent and cacti-friendly potting soil, or good quality organic potting soil.
Pineapple plants don’t like having their roots restricted, so choose a pot with room to grow.
Weeks 7-14
Keep the plant out of full sun for the next few weeks and make sure the soil is consistently moist but not too wet. This is when the roots grow in the ground.
After about two months, the plant should be firmly gripping the ground (indicating root growth has taken place) and you should see signs of new leaf growth emerging from the center of the plant.
Care of the pineapple plant

Here are some highlights:

Pineapple is a tropical fruit plant, so provide bright sun without burning the plant or drying out the soil. A summer vacation outdoors near a wall for extra warmth is worth considering.
You can also use grow lights (shows what I use) if you don’t have natural sun available.

Pineapples die in freezing temperatures.
Growth stops below 15.5°C (60°F) and above 32°C (90°F).
The sweet spot is right in the middle: 68°F and 86°F (20-30°C).
water
I highly recommend using a basic moisture meter for both indoor and outdoor potted plants. It’s an easy way to know how moist the soil is at root level and learn to keep the water level nice and even.
Pineapples are somewhat drought tolerant, but it’s too easy to overdo it when growing indoors in a container. Because of this, I always keep mine moderately moist. Drought also slows or stops growth. Leaves turn light green, then yellow or red, and curl when dry.

is just as harmful: yes, even watering is key! It is not uncommon for the leaf tips to turn brown. I have observed this in both overwatering and underwatering. If it happens, trim off the brown with clean scissors. If the center of the plant turns yellow or brown, the entire plant is likely to die.

As your plant grows, it will need a slow release, balanced organic fertilizer (5-5-5 N-P-K) or a similar product. Follow the directions on the product label.

Pineapple plants need at least 2-3 years of maturation before they can flower and bear fruit.
If you started with a small container, your pineapple plant will outgrow its pot a few times and will need to be repotted.
Cut off old, dead leaves as needed.
If after all this time your plant is healthy but not flowering, here are tips on forcing flowers. It may just need that extra boost.
Eventually, if you’re lucky, it will actually bloom and bear fruit.

Diageo PLC said rising pandemic demand is depleting stocks of Crown Royal whiskey, Lagavulin Scotch and Don Julio tequila. It can take months or years for these best-selling brands to age before they hit liquor store shelves, making it difficult to ramp up production quickly.
Diageo said it also didn’t have enough bottles to pack Bulleit Bourbon to meet demand. It has separately struggled with higher costs for aluminum and grain that go into the alcohol manufacturing process. Shipping and energy bills have increased.
To offset this, Diageo is raising prices in some markets, including the US, and increasing ad spend on lines that are still plentiful, like Johnnie Walker.
“The limitation is simply being able to meet very high demand,” Chief Financial Officer Lavanya Chandrashekar said when speaking to reporters after the release of half-year results that showed higher sales and earnings.
Amid the cash windfall, the company – whose brands also include Tanqueray Gin, Smirnoff Vodka and Guinness Stout – said on Thursday it was accelerating a £4.5 billion, the equivalent of around $6 billion, share buyback programme.
Manufacturers in all industries and regions face similar limitations. Pandemic-induced shortages and price spikes have at times occurred on staples like toilet paper and lumber, as well as larger ticketed items like hot tubs and used cars.
Spirits companies like Diageo are in a particularly difficult position, as many of their brands rely on cask aging — a process by which spirits like whiskey and some types of tequila are aged before they can be sold.
That makes it difficult to handle sudden surges in demand like those spirits makers have experienced during the pandemic.
While bars and restaurants have been shutting down on and off for the past two years, liquor sales in grocery stores, liquor stores and online have exploded across the United States.
The pandemic has affected the beverage industry in other ways, prompting changes in drinking behavior and regulations governing the sale of alcohol.
Home drinking increased, prompting consumers to purchase their liquor from grocery and liquor stores, which were considered essential services in many places. Many drinkers also started buying more expensive brands.
Executives have said consumers who couldn’t spend money on concerts, travel or live sports were instead buying quality spirits to drink at home.
Tequila is a big hit — Americans are experimenting with drinking it at home in a variety of ways, including over ice, with soda pop, and in cocktails aside from margaritas.
Despite supply chain constraints, U.S. sales of Crown Royal rose 12% year over year in the second half of last year, Diageo said, while tequila sales rose 61%.
Overall, Diageo’s net sales of spirits in the US grew 15% on an organic basis, which excludes currency fluctuations.
In their Tequila line, the Don Julio 1942 line is aged for a minimum of 2½ years, while the Anejo line is barrel aged for 18 months. The Anejo line of Diageos Casamigos brand tequila lasts 14 months.
Diageo creates Crown Royal Whiskey by blending different whiskeys aged in new or re-used charred oak casks.
The shortage of aged Crown Royal has eaten away at Diageo’s leading market share position in the Canadian whiskey category for the past six months.
Diageo, the world’s largest distiller of Scotch, said sales of single malt Scotch in the U.S. fell 5% in half year-on-year due to a lack of adequately aged Lagavulin, a best-selling brand. Overall, Scotch sales in the US rose 11%.
Diageo CEO Ivan Menezes said the company has increased its inventory of aging alcohol to meet forecasts for future demand.
“We are continually evaluating what amount of liquid to apply to Scotch, Canadian whiskey, American whiskey and now the aged variety of tequila across the portfolio,” he said.
Meanwhile, Diageo is allocating more of its marketing dollars to brands that don’t suffer from similar restrictions, such as Johnnie Walker blended scotch.
The ad spend is an attempt to “shape demand and take consumers to where we have fewer or no restrictions on aged liquids,” Ms Chandrashekar said.
Diageo recently launched a new TV and online advertising campaign “Keep Walking” for its largest Scotch brand.
The lack of bespoke glass bottles to package Bulleit Bourbon has hurt Diageo’s market share in the US whiskey category.
Bulleit’s U.S. organic net sales fell 19% during that period.
Ms Chandrashekar said she believes the problem is temporary and that Diageo has already onboarded new suppliers in North America to secure supply for other brands and increase glass capacity by almost 25%.
According to Diageo, net profit rose to £1.97 billion in the six months ended December 31, up from £1.58 billion a year earlier. Net sales rose 20% on an organic basis to £7.96 billion.
The aging requirements for many of its products are not bad in the current climate, Ms. Chandrashekar said.
It can provide a “natural hedge” in times of high inflation. A cask of spirits finished today could have been aged for years, meaning Diageo has already absorbed or passed on much of the cost over several years and doesn’t need to immediately pass on the current higher cost to customers.
“A large percentage of what we sell today we actually liquidated in many cases seven years ago, more than a decade ago,” said Ms. Chandrashekar, citing Johnnie Walker as an example.
Diageo said it has also mitigated the impact of inflation by raising prices for some brands in the US, Nigeria and Turkey.

Generally, a four-shot glass of whiskey can get you seriously intoxicated, especially if one glass contains 30 ml to 45 ml. Doing the math, around 120 ml to 180 ml of a whiskey bottle can make you intoxicated faster.

How many shots could you get drunk?
An average person can be drunk after four to five shots of alcohol. Two or three shots can get you tipsy, while seven or more shots can get you extremely drunk. However, alcohol has a different alcohol content and people have different alcohol tolerances.
In addition, there are factors to consider when defining a person’s ideal alcohol consumption. It could be the type of alcohol, body mass, gender, genetics, and drugs you use while drinking.

gin
Gin is a colorless or light yellow spirit made from grain mash. The most important flavor component of a standard beverage is juniper berry [1].
This alcohol is mostly similar to vodka due to its neutral spirit, but has a completely different flavor when mixed with flavors and spices.
Gin has an ABV of 36%-50%, like whiskey and rum, and it’s not as strong as vodka.
There are basically two ways to drink gin: pure or as a mixed drink. Five to six shots can get you high if you plan to consume gin neat. However, three to four alcoholic beverages mixed with gin can make your evening enjoyable.
rum
Like whiskey, rum has an average alcohol content of 36% to 50%. Depending on the brand and type, spiced rums can flavor the alcohol for a better taste.
You may not feel tipsy after the third shot, as it can take time for hard alcohol to affect your system. But how much rum can get you drunk?
Rum can be a strong spirit and if you plan on drinking decent shots of rum you can get high on the sixth shot, especially if you take 3-4 shots and then wait 20 minutes.
brandy
Brandy contains 50% ABV and is typically served on the rocks or with a blender as an after-dinner drink.
Because brandy is a fairly versatile drink, the alcoholic beverage is popular in bars and can be used as a base for cocktail drinks.
Since the liver absorbs 1 ounce of alcohol per hour[2], two shots of brandy can get you tipsy. However, a seasonal drinker may need five shots of alcohol to get high on brandy.
vodka
Drinking vodka has health benefits and can be consumed in the same way as wine and beer. Vodka has an ABV of 40%.
Depending on the brand, however, it can be up to 95% higher. Because vodka is distilled, the alcohol content can increase dramatically, especially with Smirnoff and Gray Goose.
When drinking popular brands of vodka, you can tell the difference between cheap and expensive, especially when drinking it neat due to its smoothness.
Two to four shots of vodka can get you a little tipsy, while ten or more can leave you feeling extremely high. But how many vodka shots will you get drunk?
tequila
Tequila is a Central and South American drink that is very popular in the United States and other parts of the world. Most tequilas contain around 50% ABV, and the most popular way to drink it is in a single shot.
The average person can be tipsy after two shots of tequila, moderately high after four shots, and very high after eight or more.
However, it can vary depending on alcohol tolerance, gender, age and body weight.

Whiskey can be one of the most confusing types of alcohol you can encounter due to its spelling; whiskey or whiskey and its subcategories; Irish whiskey, bourbon or scotch.
Depending on the whiskey category and brand, the average ABV of this pure alcohol ranges from 36% to 50%.
So how much whiskey gets you drunk? In general, a glass of whiskey with four shots can get you seriously high, especially if a glass is 30ml to 45ml.
Do the math, about 120ml to 180ml of a bottle of whiskey can get you high faster.
Beer & Malt
Like wine, beer and malt have a wide range of subcategories such as ales, pilsners and lagers. However, since the alcohol brewing process has a large impact on the ABV percentage, beer and malt only range from 4% to 8%.
An average man can consume up to 4 to 5 bottles of beer to get high and for the average woman it’s 3 to 4 beers.

Sparkling Crown Peach Drink Ingredients
Crown Royal peach flavored whisky

Directions to Sparkling Crown Peach Drinks
Step 1: Chill all the ingredients! This cocktail does not contain ice.
Step 2: Chop up a mango and/or peach and fill your glass with these fresh fruit pieces. Optionally add a peach ring or two for snacking after soaking in some alcohol.
Step 3: Fill 1/3 of your glass with Peach Crown Royal Whisky.
Step 4: Pour champagne to fill 1/3 of your glass.

Plain and simple are my favorite drinks! This first recipe is easy with just two ingredients:

If you’re making this drink for yourself to drink at home or outside by the pool, you’ll probably want to skip the garnish. However, I do like to eat the apple wedges after they have been soaked in the apple whiskey. So maybe just add a few to your drink. I like to call this a cocktail appetizer because it’s an all-in-one drink and snack.

If you’re hosting a party or serving guests, be sure to add the garnish. That extra little step doesn’t take much time, and it looks like you put a lot of effort into making your friends happy.
For a pretty cocktail, consider adding apple slices and lemon slices to the drink itself. Then add a few apple slices with a lemon wheel on the rim of the glass to top it off.
How to Make Crown Apple and Lemonade (4 Ways)
Below are step-by-step instructions for all 4 lemonade recipes. Let’s start with recipe #1!
Step 1: Slice lemons and apples for garnish.
To make lemon slices (which look particularly pretty), cut the lemon crosswise instead of lengthwise. Longitudinally makes a lemon slice and transversely makes lemon slices.
To get thin apple slices, first cut the apple in half, but not right down the middle of the apple. From top to bottom, cut only slightly along the side of the apple core.
Next, place the apple flesh-side down on your cutting board. Then start making thin sections from the outer side edge.
Half an apple makes a lot of garnish. In the picture below I cut half an apple and ended up with about 15 slices.
Step 2: Fill a cocktail glass with lemon slices, apple slices and ice.
Start with a lemon wheel at the bottom and add a few ice cubes to keep it in place. Then add apple slices and lemon slices alternating with ice. This will hold the slices of fruit in place instead of making them all float to the top.
Step 3: Pour a shot or a shot and a half into the glass.
The whiskey mixes so well with the lemonade that you hardly notice it’s there. You will taste the apple flavor but not the strong whiskey flavor.
Step 4: Fill the rest of your glass with lemonade. I like the brands Calypso Lemonade or Simply Lemonade. They are both delicious!
Step 5: Add garnish.
To make a fan of apple slices, use a toothpick or a pretty stainless steel cocktail stick to hold multiple slices together.
Crown apple and lemonade variations
This second recipe adds a touch of sparkling wine to the drink, making it look more like a cocktail. Maybe it’s just me, but I love a little fizz in my drinks!

For this recipe, reduce the lemonade a little and top it up with sparkling seltzer water. I opted for unflavoured seltzer so that the drink still tastes like apple and lemonade with a slight fizz. I think a lemon-lime flavored seltzer would also work perfectly and add more citrus flavor.

Again, reduce the amount of lemonade and top up with ginger ale. The bubbly texture and added ginger flavor are delicious. This variant still lets the apple whiskey through, so don’t worry about the apple flavor disappearing.

This might be my favorite combination for this drink. It’s hard to choose, but I love how the extra dash of apple juice pumps up the apple flavor.

How to Grow Your Own Pineapple
How to grow a pineapple
Pineapple is one of the most unique and exotic tropical fruits in the world, but it is possible to grow it in a temperate zone under controlled conditions. Although you may not be able to grow a plant as large as that grown on a plantation in Hawaii, the information below should enable you to grow a healthy, attractive pineapple for your home.
Crowns (or “spikes”, leafy tops of the fruit), nucs (growing from the fruit itself or along the stem underneath the fruit), suckers from leaf axils (these produce fruit more quickly), and ratoons (the growth of underground stems) all became common Used for vegetative propagation of pineapples. To a lesser extent, some breeders have used “stumps”, i. H. Mother plant stolons that have already borne fruit. 2
All four types will work, although slips and suction cups are commercially preferred. Luckily, every pineapple fruit in the supermarket comes with a crown to start the plant developing offshoots and suckers for later use. 3

Remove the crown from your pineapple by twisting or cutting it. Adhering pulp should be cut off from the base, otherwise it may rot after planting. After trimming, cut off the underside of the crown (its stem) until you see root buds, which are small round structures visible around the perimeter of the stem base. Remove as little tissue as possible to avoid cutting young stem tissue. To make planting easier, you can also strip off some of the lower leaves, exposing up to about three-quarters of an inch at the base of the crown. The small brown bumps below the leaf scars are root buds (beginnings of roots) and there may even be a few short roots at the base of the crown.
After trimming and stripping, place the crown upside down in a dry, shady spot about a week (5 to 7 days) before planting. This allows the cut end and leaf scars to heal and prevents rot.
Plant
Pineapple plants are an excellent choice for planting in interiors with limited open space. In general, pineapple plants should be planted in full sun for best growth and fruit production. Select a portion of the landscape that is at least 1.5 m (5 ft) from other trees, buildings, and structures where there will be minimal shading. The distance between individual pineapple plants ranges from 12 to 36 inches (21-91 cm). In general, a larger spacing between plants allows for the production of larger plants and fruit than a narrow spacing between plants. 1
Removing suckers, offshoots and hapas during plant growth and fruit development accelerates fruit development and increases fruit size. However, growing a few suckers or cuttings or hapas will provide new planting material. After the first fruit is harvested. 1

Pineapple plants are well adapted to planting in a container. Choose a 11 to 26 liter (3 to 7 gallon) container with drainage holes. The larger the container, the greater the potential for a large plant and fruit; small containers limit the size of the plant and the resulting fruit size. Using a well-drained potting mix, fill the container to about 1 inch below the top. Water the soil before planting the plant (water should drain from the drainage holes). Plant the pineapple in the center of the container and water the plant well. Place the container in full sun for best growth. When the plant blooms and bears fruit, tie the stem to a stake to keep it from falling over.

Once the propagation begins to put out new leaves, a complete, soluble fertilizer should be applied monthly according to the directions that come with the fertilizer. General house plant fertilizer is sufficient. Since propagation takes several months to develop its root system, the water and soluble fertilizer should be poured or sprayed over the plant to allow some of it to collect in the leaf axils. After about six months, however, the fertilizer solution should be poured into the soil rather than over the plant, as the latter can cause damage to the developing bud. 3

The pineapple plant is stingy with water, requiring only about 20 inches of natural rainfall per year when well distributed. You only need to water the soil once a week, and if the plants are indoors it’s best to put all the water on the soil.

The fruiting stalk (stem) and inflorescence develop from the apical growth point. The emergence of the inflorescence is called the red heart stage because of the reddish peduncle leaves at the base of the inflorescence. The inflorescence consists of 50 to over 200 individual flowers and is crowned by a corolla of numerous short leaves (up to 150). The individual flowers are hermaphrodite with three sepals and petals, six stamens and a pistil. The petals are white at their base to purple-blue at their tips. Each flower is surrounded by a hairy bract.
In general, the first flowers open around 50 days after flower induction and flowering lasts 20 to 40 days. Usually one to 10 flowers open daily, starting around midnight and closing the following evening.
Pineapple plants are self-incompatible, meaning pollen of the same variety will not result in seed production and scabrous fruit. However, growing multiple strains side by side and flowering at the same time can result in shoddy fruit. To prevent seed formation, either grow only one variety or induce flowering at different times. 1
As soon as it blooms, the individual fruits of the flowers combine to form what is known as a pineapple. 4
If your pineapple plant is at least 24 inches tall and hasn’t flowered by the time it’s 20 to 24 months old, you can “force” it with a cheap chemical.
Force flowering
When your fruit is about six months old, about four months after flowering, changes begin to occur. The color of the shell changes from dark purple to green to rich gold. The skin color change occurs first at the bottom of the fruit and moves upwards. During this change, the fruit becomes sweeter and the color of the flesh changes from white to yellow. The fruit will weigh between two and four pounds. When the fruit is golden halfway up, it can be picked and eaten. You can wait longer if you wish.

After the fruit is picked, branches on the main stem of the plant – called shoots – and sometimes on the stem just below the fruit – called offshoots – can be removed and used as planting material. After these branches are about 30 cm long, you can cut or break them off near the stem. Many of the strains now being grown produce few or no offshoots, so don’t worry if your plant doesn’t produce offshoots.
Prepare your cuttings and shoots and grow them in the same way as your crown. Briefs may have a small button at their base. This should be cut off. Because they are taller, nucs and shoots produce fruit in less time than a crown. It’s best to use plant size as a guide to determine the best time to force flowering.
