So what makes her so special? Talent! These guys are very talented musicians and can play blues and hard rock with ease and then modern rock with hip hop elements. Singer and guitarist Johnny Stevens is a damn good character too. With tattoos covering all visible parts of his body (yes, his face too) and his villain image, he can still be cool and gentle. Twin brothers Ryan Meyer on drums and Rich Meyer on bass are excellent, with Rich also singing and occasionally playing synths while lighting a joint. Matt Kofos on guitar is also a multi-talent and replaced Ryan Meyer on drums for their rendition of Everything Is Sex.
They opened their set with three songs from their debut album – Bath Salts, Bloodfeather and Lost. After Rich stepped in to sing Round and Round, they began venturing into their new songs, which felt lighter than their older ones. These days were Juzo, Arizona and Freakstreet highlights.
Then came their mega-hit My Name Is Human, a slightly unnecessarily expanded version with band member introductions and some thoughtful tidbits about Johnny’s life. After that they went to change their clothes and came out in what seemed like a very long encore or just part two of the show. To be honest the final stages of the show seemed a little stretched but despite that the audience loved every second of it probably because it felt more personal and had more of Johnny’s interactions with fans.
High Suspect are a treat to see live, although more extravagance would be appropriate. Her talent is undeniable and overall an unforgettable experience.

Credit: Shervin Lainez On Highly Suspect’s latest single, “These Days,” frontman Johnny Stevens wails, “I hate these days,” a sentiment I’m sure many people share in this time of COVID-19.
“I feel like the chorus has become almost the perfect anthem,” Stevens tells ABC Audio.
“I think a lot of people are obviously very unhappy with the state of the world,” he continues. “We are in the midst of a crisis that none of us in our generation have ever seen. A lot of people hate those days.”
Of course, Stevens didn’t want to write about a global pandemic with “These Days.” The song, which appears on Highly Suspect’s 2019 album MCID, was actually written about Stevens’ breakup with his ex-girlfriend.
“It’s literally about my ex-girlfriend, after we broke up, just a little bit down but still texting back and forth, and just kind of unwell,” says Stevens of the original inspiration behind These Days “. “I had to move from an apartment across town to another apartment just because it was too sad.”
Now, however, Stevens’ break-up song has found a new, broader meaning.
“I think it’s pretty direct lyrics, but they were vague enough that, especially in the chorus, they really connect with people these days,” he says.

Highly Suspect is an American rock band from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The band consists of twin brothers Rich (bass, backing vocals) and Ryan Meyer (drums, backing vocals), Johnny Stevens (guitar, lead vocals) and Matt Kofos (guitar, synth, backing vocals).[1] After starting out as a bar cover band, they moved to Brooklyn, New York, where they recorded The Worst Humans EP with producer Joel Hamilton.

Highly Suspect started out in 2009 as a cover band playing Sublime, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd songs at local Cape Cod area bars such as the British Beer Company, J.R Brody’s Roadside Tavern and Sundancers, who also toured and played a limited number of shows with the bands 10 Years, Monster Truck and Sevendust.[5] They attended Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.[6]
First Offense was Highly Suspect’s first EP, released on July 15, 2009. The EP consists of “Life’s a Fun Ride”, “Not Me” and “Smile On”, her first songs written and recorded after switching from a cover band (“Not Me” later appeared on the self-titled album Highly Suspect) .
The Gang Lion EP was the band’s second EP, released on October 3, 2010. She consists of “Gang Lion,” “Big Bear,” and “Then Mickey,” all of whom would later appear on her self-titled album, Highly Guess.
The Worst Humans was the band’s third EP, released on July 13, 2012. The EP contained the songs “Bath Salts”, “Gumshoe” and “The Go”. The recordings were available for both physical purchase and digital download on Bandcamp.
The band’s fourth EP, Black Ocean, was released in October 2013. It contained two tracks from their debut release as well as three new tracks, “Fuck Me Up”, “Lydia” and “Guess What”. This release was co-produced by Gojira’s Joel Hamilton and Joe Duplantier.
Their self-titled compilation album Highly Suspect was released in 2011. It contains fourteen tracks consisting of several new songs as well as previously released but re-recorded songs such as “Gang Lion” and “Then Mickey”.
The band toured the United States in early 2015 with Deftones, Chevelle, Halestorm, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Stone Temple Pilots’ Scott Weiland.[6] The music video for the song “Lydia” premiered on MTV.com on June 25, 2015.[7]
Their debut studio album[8][9] Mister Asylum was released on July 17, 2015 via 300 Entertainment.[10] The album’s first single entitled “Lydia” reached #4 on the US Mainstream Rock Songs chart and #24 on the US Alternative Songs chart. On July 24, 2015, the album debuted at number 39 on the New Zealand Albums Chart.[11]
Highly Suspect was selected by its editors for iTunes’ New Artist Spotlight 2015.[12] In November, the band released their second single, Bloodfeather, which peaked at #5 on the US Mainstream Rock Songs chart.

Her second studio album, The Boy Who Died Wolf, was released on November 18, 2016.[13] The band released the single “My Name Is Human” on September 7, 2016.[14] A second single, “Little One”, was released on April 26, 2017. On December 6, it was announced that “My Name Is Human” was nominated for Best Rock Song at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.

A single featuring Young Thug entitled “Tokyo Ghoul” and Stevens’ hip hop personality “Terrible Johnny” was released on October 4, 2019.[16] The fourth single “Canals” was released on October 25, 2019.[17] The album was released on November 1st.[18][19]
