Does BTS use KakaoTalk?
On January 16, BTS’s V decided to go on a late night internet adventure with ARMY, but things didn’t go as planned. Around 3 AM, when most of the world was asleep, this night owl entered a KakaoTalk chatroom to chat with ARMYs. Join the chat, talk to fans.

Around 3am when most of the world was asleep, this night owl entered a KakaoTalk chat room to chat with ARMYs.
Join the chat, talk to fans. It seems simple enough, but V was soon scolded. At first he was told that he had to change his username to his real name, but of course nobody believed that this “Kim Taehyung” was the Kim Taehyung.
Not only that, V was penalized for communicating via text. In this chat, users are only supposed to converse with pictures. V apologized and did his best to follow the rules but it was all so confusing!
To prove his identity (and avoid getting kicked out), V sent a voice message to the chat and promised to upload proof to Twitter.
This is the audio file that said “I’m not a cheater” that was sent to the chat room and says HOW TO IMAGINE AN AUDIO FILE FROM THE KIM TAEHYUNG pic.twitter.com/JkHRj0shlX – 𝘢𝘴𝘩 ♡ 태꾹 (@purple_taekook) January 15, 2019
He posted this video tweet during the time he was using the chat room.
In the end, V left the chat, but he promised to come back once he got involved with fan chat rooms to avoid breaking any rules in the future!
Fans can’t get over V’s cutie and many wish they had chatted with him.
ARMY IN CHATROOM DON’T BELIEVE IT WAS TAEHYUNG THAT WAS MESSAGE THEM IN SOLTITIDE CHATROOM AND HE SAID ‘GOING TO UPLOAD SOMETHING ON TWITTER’ AND THEY ASK 💙🖤 (@taekookpage) January 15, 2019
Things may not have gone the way V intended, but he’s not the first idol to be snubbed in a fan chat room. Recently, Jaehyun almost got kicked out of NCT too!

The company KakaoTalk
Kakao is the company that developed the KakaoTalk app. The company Kakao is a merger between Daum and Kakao. Daum is Korea’s third largest search engine/portal. Rival Naver is Korea’s largest search engine. In true Korean fashion, the app (launched in 2010) took Korea by storm virally. One could even argue that Kakao is Korea’s most successful startup. The corporate culture is open and has a flat hierarchy. Tencent, the legal name of Chinese app WeChat, owns 13.5% of Kakao. Kakao’s subsidiaries are: Kakao M (owned 76.40%)

cocoa friends
Part of KakaoTalk’s identity and appeal comes from its emoticons, the funny and cute Kakao Friends.
Perhaps the most famous “friend” is Ryan the maneless lion – who isn’t a bear (shock)!
Ryan: A male lion whose complex is the lack of a mane.
“Often misunderstood for his tall stature and impassive expression, he actually has an unexpected charm with the sensibilities of a young girl! Ryan was originally the heir to the throne on the island of Dung Dung in Africa, but he escaped for a life of freedom! He is the reliable advisor among cocoa friends. Its tail is short because it could easily get caught if it were long.”
If you want to use Kakao Friends stickers in your chats, there are just too many sets to choose from! You can buy them or send them as gifts. But don’t worry, many emoticons are also free and come automatically with KakaoTalk once you download it.
You can also buy old-fashioned stickers that you can buy on Amazon, for example. Or what about those cool looking enamel pins?
If you’re in Seoul, you might have seen the photogenic Kakao Stores. Follow the link to check store locations. Not in Seoul? No problem, you can find all kinds of merchandise online too.
The KakaoTalk emoticons are so popular that many companies design their own custom sticker sets for their promotions. Brands create their own stickers and give away coupons to grow their Kakao channel (which is similar to a Facebook page).

What is the # (armed) button for?
In the Kakaotalk mobile app menu, one of the four icons at the bottom is #. Doesn’t it remind you of a hashtag in Instagram? It’s a little different with Kakaotalk.
Click on it and you will see various news and entertainment content published by media such as news, shopping, movies or sports. These are all from Daum News and the online community service Daum Cafe (a cafe is like a Facebook group or subreddit).
You can also find “#” right next to the text box and emoticon button in your chat room. Press # and then type a word you want to look up. It searches and returns results in people, news, images and websites from Daum’s search engine.
Ever had to switch apps to a browser or search engine to look something up while chatting with your buddy? In Kakaotalk chat, you don’t have to do that at all. You can easily do your search right in the chat without going back and forth. Easily share the result with your contact. Just press the yellow speech bubble below. How convenient!
Note: The sharp (#) menu is only available when using KakaoTalk with a Korean mobile number OR when you change the app language to Korean!
types of chats
Aside from the normal chat we are all familiar with, Kakaotalk also has a somewhat unknown “Secret Chat” and an intriguing “Open Chat”.
First, secret chat is used to protect privacy in a 1 on 1 chat. Ideal for all users who care about privacy. Similar to Telegram secret chat, Kakaotalk secret chat uses end-to-end encryption and leaves no trace on its server. It only saves the data in your phone. The secret chat cannot be accessed via Kakaotalk on your computer (like WhatsApp). No message or photo preview will be shown unless you click on it and enter that specific secret chat room. Instead of a preview, it simply says “Secret Message”.
Next we have the bursting open chat. The open chat room is a place where any Kakaotalk user can join and interact with others. Users are free to join and create a new chat room of their own interests. For example, there is a chat room for English Premier League fans, a chat room for doctors, nurses and other medical professionals, and a chat room for Tesla Model 3 owners – these are just a few.
It seems certain that open chat will create a new space for users to share and connect with people beyond their contact lists. It has also become a hot place where marketing and advertising are very active.

How do you know if someone read your message on KakaoTalk?
Being in the middle of a chat back and forth with someone when the messages just stop coming in. You then notice the little yellow “1” which indicates that the other has not “read” your message.
KakaoTalk
I consider myself a fairly modern, high-tech, new worlds girl. I’m all for new technologies that now connect us to anyone, anywhere, anytime, and I have several apps installed on my phone for exactly that purpose. Skype, Whatsapp, Line, KakaoTalk… Wait, did I say KakaoTalk? Yes, although available worldwide, this seems to be THE most popular chat app in Korea. You can’t leave your house without immediately hearing that annoying, piercing, signature KaTalk chirp from someone’s phone.
For Koreans, SMS is the preferred method of communication. Forget phone calls, people just have long chats on KakaoTalk instead. And this is where it gets tricky. For unknowing foreigners, the KakaoTalk app (or KaTalk, as Koreans call their preferred communication tool) can be a veritable land minefield of unwritten rules, secret etiquette, and, well, pure hell. Even the most sane person will eventually be driven insane by the KaTalk paranoia that follows from frequent use of this app.
Don’t be fooled by the seemingly harmless emoticons with names like Frodo, Peachy (who’s really just a bare bottom – I mean, are you kidding?!) and Ryan. There’s nothing cute about these little minions at all. They are only designed to captivate you with their cuteness, so you don’t realize that you are gradually being drawn into a dark underworld that will continue to mess with your brain.
Koreans probably learn that in school, I’m even confident they even go to private academies after hours to learn how to torture each other with this devilish app. Here are some examples of such torture:
Back and forth with someone in the middle of a chat when the messages just stop coming. Then you notice the little yellow “1” indicating that the other hasn’t “read” your message. Sure they did, they just don’t want to answer right now, and now you wonder what was suddenly more important. You can literally go from exchanging hilarious emoticons one moment to dead silence the next. This is where it gets difficult. You now have two options. A sensible option and one that will slowly drag you into a slavery where KakaoTalk and your interlocutor are the only almighty masters. Curious what they are? The sane person will assume there is a sane excuse, leave the chat themselves, get on with their lives and not think about it any further until the other decides to return to the chat (note: this may take days). The dark path (which unfortunately turns out to be the most traveled path) is obsessing over the fact that they haven’t replied, constantly checking the chat to see if the message has been read or not, and if you really do aren’t there Thanks to the goodness of the KakaoTalk gods, you’ll find your message is read while you’re still in the chat room, and a reply comes in before your clumsy fingers hit the escape key. Your chat partner will notice that the yellow “1” on their page will disappear as soon as they send the message. Congratulations, you are now a desperate stalker with no life. You might as well walk onto the nearest bridge spanning the Han River and throw your phone in the muddy water. Received the “Hey~~~~” message without any follow-up. Koreans love to add a ~ after everything. It conveys the same meaning as when we write “heeeeeeyyy.” Whatever you do, don’t fall for it! It’s a trap (the KakaoTalk version of emails from Nigerian princes) with the sole purpose of luring you back into the dark realm of KakaoTalk agony. If you respond with “Hey, how are you?” You can be absolutely sure that your message will remain unread and/or unanswered between 5 and 48 hours. Especially if you answer with a question mark. Obsessed Ville Population: You! The dreaded “read, no answer”. You’ve finally started to think that the KakaoTalk gods have forgiven your sinful ways and agreed to look upon you with mercy again. You’ve been chatting merrily for hours and without thinking about the constant power struggle that you know constantly lurks beneath the surface, you send a breezy message. A few minutes later you will see that the yellow “1” has disappeared = you have read your text. Not wanting to be labeled a stalker by your judgmental subconscious again, you hurry out of the chat (something you’ve even practiced if you’ve been mindlessly fiddling with your phone) – crisis averted. And then you just wait. When they read it, they will surely respond within seconds. Then you realize that ten minutes have passed. Quiet. No Answer. See example 1 for available options.
If you’ve already been dragged into this mess as an ignorant alien, I feel your pain. If you haven’t already been caught in this malicious web, here’s some useful advice to stay sane while navigating the world of KakaoTalk.
Leave a chat room the second you send a message and never expect a reply. If you don’t want to feel ignored, avoid sending messages that end with a question mark and therefore expect an answer. Tell yourself that the outside world is much more important, leave your phone inside and go for a walk. Take the time to reply to a message. Consider whether this really requires a response. (If you have even a shred of evil in you, you might even like the idea of letting them dry.) Instead, suggest calling each other. Oddly enough, people find it rude to just hang up, but not rude to just ignore the last message in a chat.
Do any of you have experiences like the ones mentioned here? Share it!

With DND mode, all incoming calls and text messages, as well as Facebook and Twitter notifications, are suppressed and hidden from the user until DND mode is deactivated. DND mode is marked by a half moon icon in the top center portion of the lock screen.
KakaoTalk
The Do Not Disturb feature was introduced with Apple’s iOS6 operating system to suppress incoming communications or push notifications during specified periods without actually turning off the phone. But there are different ways your contacts can try to reach you – by calling, texting, emailing, etc. So a common question many iPhone users worry about is whether you can receive text messages when you call is in do not disturb mode.

About DND mode
DND mode was designed to provide busy iPhone users with periods of uninterrupted cellular activity. For example, business meetings and bedtimes when the user does not want to be distracted or awakened are ideal times to implement DND mode. With DND mode, all incoming calls and text messages as well as Facebook and Twitter notifications are suppressed and hidden from the user until DND mode is disabled. DND mode is denoted by a crescent moon icon at the top center of the lock screen.

options
Although you can’t receive text messages while your phone is in DND mode, you can customize settings to allow you to receive calls from specific contacts. When you customize the option of who to take calls from in this mode, you can choose from no one, all your contacts, your “Favorite” contacts, or a custom list you create. In addition, you can implement a “repeat calls” setting, which alerts you to call if the same contact, who is not on your pre-determined emergency list, calls you twice within three minutes.

plan DND
There are two ways to enable DND mode – either manually enabling and disabling as needed, or scheduling it to take effect at specific times throughout the day. For example, if you don’t want to be disturbed between 10:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. and 7am when you sleep, you can set it to take effect for those periods. If you want to enable DND mode between 6pm and 7pm. Every night while you are having dinner, you can set it to take effect even then.

other information
If you schedule DND mode to take effect during your bedtime, any alarm you set will be enforced. This ensures that users are not disturbed during DND mode times but still wake up on time. Another thing to note is that DND mode differs from the similar “Flight mode” in that the latter only shuts down cell data, allowing push notifications to continue to be sent when the device is connected to Wi-Fi.
Is KakaoTalk free internationally?
Is KaKaoTalk free internationally? Yes, if you have internet access, which means KakaoTalk is free to use for sending messages, photos, and videos along with making voice and video calls.
KakaoTalk
Messenger app KakaoTalk dominates in South Korea, and after launching in March 2010, the service gained around 90% domestic market share in 2015. This free app is so ubiquitous in the home that it has become a neologism, with many Koreans often abbreviating the product to name a verb, e.g. B. “I’ll ka-speak to you” or “Ka-speak to me later”. “Ka-Talk” is an abbreviation of cocoa-talk, why use three syllables when two will do? Members of BTS and every other popular K-pop character are almost guaranteed to use the app as well.
Why is KaKaoTalk so popular in Korea?
Koreans are proud that KakaoTalk is a native product, but it’s also packed with handy, fun features.
Send or receive personal messages
Send or receive photos, videos, links and files
Join group chats with an unlimited number of participants
Find out instantly if your message has been read
Use any number of interesting and unique emoticons
Customizable UI with themes, fonts, background photo, etc.
Make voice and video calls over the internet without burning data
Works on almost any device with an internet connection, also syncs across devices with the same ID
Best of all, most of KakaoTalk’s features are free. In addition, the app provides tons of popular games, banking features, online shopping, daum mail, maps and numerous other platform links, making it even more convenient for users.
Is KakaoTalk safe?
Concerns about privacy arose in 2014-2015 when then-President Park Geun-hye was under investigation and KakaoTalk’s parent company agreed to make its chat history available to prosecutors. While most citizens found the decision reasonable, it raised privacy concerns. In response, Kakao began offering an end-to-end encrypted chat option (E2EE) that ensures message confidentiality. However, this is not a standard feature, so users must select secret chat mode to use E2EE, which is also only available for mobile users of the app.
How to use secret chat mode:
Is KakaoTalk a dating app?
No, at least not on purpose. Some may be confused as the app includes chatting, but KakaoTalk is used by all generations in South Korea with the main purpose being P2P communication.
Is KaKaoTalk internationally free?
Yes, if you have Internet access, which means you can use KakaoTalk to send messages, photos, and videos, and make voice and video calls for free. Users should note that the transmission speed and the quality of the calls depend on the internet connections at both ends of the communication.
Is KaKaoTalk banned in China?
Chinese authorities are actively blocking countless applications ostensibly to combat terrorism, including KakaoTalk and LINE. So if you want to use either of them in China, you’ll need a virtual private network (VPN) or other means of bypassing the Chinese communist wall.

If you select Hide instead of Block, that person will no longer appear in the friends list. However, messages from him or her will continue to be received.
If you’ve received a message from someone you don’t know, you’ll see an alert in chat. Just hit the “Block” button if you don’t want to receive messages from them.
The list of blocked friends can be found under Settings – General settings – Friends – Blocked friends.
Here you can unblock, which means you can get messages from that specific person again. When you press Add, anyone you previously blocked will return to your friends list and be able to message you. It is also recommended that all Kakao Talk users regularly log into their account on a second device. This way your chats and contacts are saved and accessible if your phone is ever lost or stolen. Note that it doesn’t necessarily save entire chat histories, photos, and videos, but at least you don’t have to re-add all your friends and other contacts.

Is KakaoTalk safe to use?
All of your Internet requests, including all usage of KakaoTalk will be encrypted at your end and sent through a secure tunnel to the remote server. Only from there will it be sent to KakaoTalk’s Internet platform. This makes it impossible for any third party to see what you are sending or receiving from KakaoTalk.
KakaoTalk
It is owned by Kakao, a South Korean internet company founded in 2014. KakaoTalk is available in 15 languages and available for iOS, Android, Bada OS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Nokia Asha, Windows and macOS. Currently, the app is used by 93% of smartphone owners in South Korea, which unsurprisingly makes it the #1 app.
In addition to calls and messages, users can exchange photos, videos, voice messages, URLs, and contact information. Both 1-on-1 and group chats are available. The app can also be used as a platform for e.g
Basically, KakaoTalk sounds like everything you could want from a phone. The remaining question then is: is it safe?
KakaoTalk Security and Control
As South Korea tightened the screws on real-time instant messenger conversation monitoring over the past decade, KakaoTalk followed fully, losing about 1.5 million customers in the process, angry at the government being allowed to search their phones.
KakaoTalk offers the option of end-to-end encrypted chatting, but this is not the default. This means that millions of non-tech savvy Korean citizens are walking around transmitting all their instant messages, photos and personal information on public WiFi networks and completely unencrypted. This is a hacker’s idea of paradise.
In addition, the app shares a user’s location, which means that a hacker could theoretically rob the owner of his or her phone if he or she sees them for the first time in a long time, as well as reading through their message, checking their events calendar, and checking their group chats and see who called her and who called her.
Using a VPN for security
Many people use South Korea to bypass censorship e.g. B. to get access to Amazon’s digital game store or iTunes music downloads.
But the main purpose of VPNs has always been to encrypt data sent from one’s computer to the internet and back. This purpose can be restored by using a VPN as an extra layer of security when using KakaoTalk, whether you are in South Korea or another country.
How does it work? With a VPN client running on your smartphone, you can connect to a remote server located in a different jurisdiction. All your internet requests, including all usage of KakaoTalk, are encrypted on your end and sent to the remote server through a secure tunnel. Only from there are they sent to the KakaoTalk internet platform.
This makes it impossible for third parties to see what you send or receive from KakaoTalk. When someone sends you messages, emails, videos or photos back, the data is first forwarded to the remote server where it is encrypted and sent to your device for decryption and use.

KakaoTalk
khoifeesh ,
I rejoined KakaoTalk after hearing how WhatsApp was bought by FB and that our data is no longer secure (meaning they are tracking us and eavesdropping on us). And since none of my American friends use it, I had to convince them to switch from WhatsApp to this app. However, adding friends was a huge problem! Even if we were both in each other’s contact lists (in our phone), KakaoTalk would give us an error message saying we can’t add people we’ve never spoken to before, but a stranger could message me /ask friend to “add” them. Eventually it worked because I went through the “search” and re-entered their number manually. So this needs to be fixed! People you have numbers for and who appear on your “friends” list, but you can’t talk to them.
Another thing is the GIF, why isn’t it in the menu option?! You must have it as part of your keyboard, it would basically take you out of the messaging part and then it has no place for you to write a message with the GIF like WhatsApp does!
Still, the app is really cute! With lots of cute stickers (and a lot more if you feel like paying for them!)
