Insert your car key into the old handle and carefully remove the lock cylinder and insert it into the new handle. Install the door handle in its place. Start with the small end of the handle, then insert the larger end. Make sure the rubber seals are properly fitted. Reconnect any other wires connected to the door handle. Tighten the screws to secure the door handle in place. Test if everything works correctly.

Replacing the inner door handle

Remove the inner panel of your car door by removing the screws that hold it in place. Remove the cables attached to this side. Remove the screws and clips holding the door handle in place. Install the new door handle. Secure it with the screws and clips. Reattach the wires that are attached to the door panel. Reinstall the inner door panel.

This is how you can replace your outside or inside door handle. Again, depending on your mechanical inclination, you can do this yourself as it’s pretty easy. But if you’re not familiar with the procedures, it’s best to ask a trusted mechanic to do it for you.

Kia Sedona Interior Door Panel Removal & Speaker Upgrade Guide

Kia Sedona Inner Door Panel Removal Instructions

How to remove the plastic interior door panels and upgrade the speakers in a 2015-2018 Kia Sedona 3rd generation.

This vehicle maintenance tutorial was written specifically to assist third generation (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and maybe updated 2019 and 2020 model year) Kia Sedona minivan owners with removing the plastic interior door panels to add soundproofing material. Repair a faulty electrical switch, replace a faulty window regulator motor, or upgrade OEM speakers. Owners of other Kia or Hyundai models such as Grand Carnival, Sorento, Sportage, Niro, Soul, K900, Stinger, Cadenza, Optima, Rio, Forte, Genesis, Sonata, Ioniq, Santa Fe, Tucson, Elantra and Accent can also find what they are looking for this DIY guide may be helpful. The tools needed to remove the inner door panel include a small flathead screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, and a large flathead screwdriver or plastic prybar. To replace the OEM door speaker, you will need either a Phillips screwdriver or an 8mm socket with a 1/4″ ratchet.

The first two steps are to fully lower the window regulator and then fully open the door. Use a small flat head screwdriver or plastic pry bar to gently pry the plastic panel behind the door opener handle. Place the plastic trim piece in a safe place. Then pry out the rectangular shaped rubber cover at the bottom of the recess in the door pull handle in the center of the armrest. Put the rubber cover in a safe place. Remove the screw behind the door opener handle by turning it counterclockwise with a Phillips screwdriver.

Set aside the Phillips screw with its corresponding plastic trim piece. Remove the Phillips head screw at the bottom of the door handle recess by turning it counterclockwise. Set the screw with the rubber cover aside.

Use the plastic pry bar tool to gently pry off the sail panel located at the top front corner of the door frame. The sail panel is held in place by three plastic pop rivet friction fasteners. (On some Kia or Hyundai models, the sail panel may contain a tweeter that needs to be unplugged electrically.) Set the sail panel aside in a safe place. Go to the bottom edge of the door panel. Insert a large flathead screwdriver or the plastic pry bar between the metal door frame and the plastic door panel.

Pull out firmly on the bottom edge of the door panel to release the plastic pop rivet friction fasteners. Continue to loosen the pop rivets along the bottom edge and both sides of the door panel. Carefully lift the top edge of the door panel up and off the top lip on the metal door frame.

Tilt the top edge of the door panel away from the door panel and support the bottom edge with your legs. Locate the plastic assembly that houses the door opener handle wire and the door lock rocker switch wire. Gently press on the black plastic release tab at the rear of the assembly to release it from the mounting bracket.

Pull the rear edge of the assembly out of the bracket. Then, lift the two plastic tabs on the front edge of the assembly out of the bracket. Push in the release tab on the white plastic electrical connector before pulling it straight out of its socket on the underside of the panel. Put the plastic door panel in a safe place.

The OEM door speaker is located in the center front part of the metal door frame. It is held in place by four screws that can be removed with a Phillips screwdriver or an 8mm socket with a 1/4″ ratchet. The OEM front door speakers can be replaced with aftermarket car speakers in the following sizes: 6 1/2″ (6.5″) and 6 3/4″ (6.75″). I highly recommend putting some Dynamat sound deadener on the metal door frame to avoid rattling and vibration when you really crank up the volume. To replace the plastic door panel, hold it near the door frame and tilt the top edge toward you.

Reinsert the white power plug into the socket on the underside of the switch panel until it clicks securely into place. Align the two wire holders with the bracket on the back of the door panel. Insert the two black plastic tabs on the front edge of the holder back into the bracket. Then gently lower the rear edge of the assembly and push it into the bracket until it snaps securely into place.

Double check that the cable assembly is secure. Lower the top edge of the door panel onto the top lip on the metal door frame. Align the plastic pop rivets on the back of the door panel with the corresponding holes in the metal door frame.

Drive in the plastic rivets firmly along the bottom edge and both sides of the door panel. Then reinsert the screw into the bottom of the recess in the armrest by turning it clockwise with a Phillips screwdriver. Next, replace the screw behind the door opener handle by turning it clockwise with the Phillips screwdriver.

Press the rubber cover back down into the door handle recess. Then lightly engage the plastic cover behind the door opener handle.
