With the touring bars mounted to the rear of the chassis, loosen the top 17mm nut, then hold the bottom nut and tighten the bolt

This makes the front of the truck much stiffer

Adjusting the torsion bars allows you to level the front of the truck by setting the ride height equally on both sides. You can also use this setting to optimize the front ground clearance compared to the rear.

It’s important that both sides are equal in terms of tracking and camber etc… and after major adjustments both should be properly checked.

Some trucks have been known to pull on one side when the ride heights differ from left to right.

This picture shows an adjustment screw.

Loosen the top lock nut and unscrew several threads out of the way. Loosen the bottom lock nut and do the same. The double locking nuts can be seen above the cross member.

Adjustment is by loosening the screw (under the crossbar) to lower the front or by turning the screw to raise the front.

Usually the adjustment only needs to be done on one side or the other to either set the low side to the same height as the higher side or to match the high side to the lower side (if that makes sense!!).

You can raise both sides to slightly improve ground clearance for off-road use. I adjusted mine so the truck sits more or less level front to back when partially loaded. This means it sits a little low in the rear when fully loaded (not often) and a little high when unloaded. You may need to experiment with the settings to get the posture you want.

When using this method to improve ride height, be aware that the front upper arms will be moved closer to their attachment points and therefore axle articulation may be affected by the reduced available travel.

The correct (factory set) ride height can be checked by measuring the distance between the lower wishbone bump stop and the bump stop bracket (Dimension A in this image) which should be 71 – 73mm. (See also the CD workshop manual). You can also verify that the ride height is the same from side to side by measuring the distance between the center of the wheel and the edge of the wheel well.

Once set, ride a lap around the block and recheck the heights on both sides, adjust if necessary, and ride around again to allow the suspension to settle down again.

Don’t forget to re-tighten the lock nuts.

If you are looking to increase your ride height I would recommend replacing either the rear leaf springs or the shackles to provide lift at the rear of the vehicle so it is still level in the front when jacked up. The main problem with the L200 is the approach and departure angle due to its huge ****.

Back to jacking up the torsion bar on the right is a pain in the **** due to the exhaust, so it takes a little longer.
