project description

Deuteronomy 6:2-6 / Hebrews 7:23-28 / Mark 12:28b-34
Life is messy. . .
It is. . . is not it. . .
Life is messy.
This is the title of a recently published book by
Catholic author Matthew Kelly.
Once in a while. . . sometimes. . .
we get glimpses of it there
is a certain rationality and direction in our lives. . .
But more often than not. . .
Life. . . and the world. . .
seem a bit messy. . .
unruly. . .
with powerful forces fighting against us.
It’s a pandemic thing
made us aware. . .
Or social media conspiring
make us even angrier. . .
so we will turn against each other. . .
so we will be divided. . .
only for profit!!!
Or sometimes we are our own worst enemy. . .
Do what we do deep inside. . .
deep below . .
knowing it’s wrong and we don’t really want it. . .
Or not doing what we really know is right!!!
Life is messy!!!
And there is no big plan
that we can come up with
that will fix all clutter. . .
There is no perfect life coach to hire. . .
There is no perfect self-help book for us to read
that will solve all the clutter of life.
You’ll even find the perfect love of your life
won’t solve the whole mess. . .
there is also something chaotic!!!
Not the perfect career either. . .
There’s some clutter in there too!
There are just too many variables. . .
There are too many people in our orbit
with different goals and different ideas. . .
There are too many forces
push us. . .
first in this direction. . .
and then in this direction!!!
And you know,
There’s just too much wounding. . .
and brokenness in the world.
We are all broken and wounded
one way or another. . .
So the mess of human life. . .
is here to stay. . .
at least until Jesus comes again. . .
It’s inevitable. . .
It’s just life.
So Matthew Kelly is right!!!
Life is messy!!
But after pointing out the disorder of life. . .
Kelly shares a wonderful piece of Christian wisdom. . .
It’s not chaos that rules our lives. . .
That’s what we do with the mess
that determines everything.
It’s not chaos that rules our lives. . .
That’s what we do with the mess
that determines everything.
So Kelly says that one of
THE questions of our life. . .
One of the most important questions is this:
Can something that has been broken. . .
Can something that has been broken. . .
to be reassembled in this way. . .
that makes it more beautiful than ever?
Can something that has been broken. . .
to be reassembled in this way
that makes it more beautiful than ever?
Well, as Christians. . . Our answer must be yes. . .
Yes. . .
Of course it can!!
The Japanese have a beautiful art form called
“Kintsugi”. . .
It’s a form of pottery.
In our culture. . .
when we break a vase or a bowl. . .
We throw it away and buy a new one. . .
but with this Japanese art form. . .
when a vase is broken. . .
the artist collects the pieces. . .
and glue them back together.
And how they glue the parts back together
is imbued with wisdom. . .
and lore. . .
with an understanding of what true beauty is!!!
See, they mix gold dust with the glue. . .
And they don’t try to hide the cracks. . .
they own them. . .
they honor her. . .
they even emphasize it
by making them gold
with the golden glue. (Kelly, Life Is Messy, 3-8)
And the finished products. . .
They are beautiful. . .
Very beautiful!!!
Can something that has been broken. . .
to be reassembled in this way
that makes it more beautiful than ever?
Yes. . .
yes it can . .
in the hands of the Divine Artist. . .
Yes, you can. . .
in the hands of the Holy Spirit.
And where does that happen?
Where does the reconfiguration come from. . .
this restoration. . .
this healing take place?
where does the glue come from?
the golden glue take place?. . .
to make us. . .
broken as we are . .
more beautiful than ever?
Just ask our great mystics. . .
Just ask those who have been taped back together
into something nicer
than they were before. . .
Just ask the saints. . .
This restoration and healing
takes place in depth. . .deep prayer
in the hands of the Holy Spirit. . .
where we place ourselves
the hands of the divine artist. . .
Prayer. . .it happens in prayer!!!
And it happens by immersing ourselves. .
in the word of God. . .
as gospel. . .
the words of Jesus. . .
gives us a new shape. . .
reassemble us with the divine glue.
It’s in the Gospels!!!
And it happens in the sacraments. . .
By eating his body and drinking his blood. . .
It happens in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. . .
In the sacraments we are united with the divine artist. . .
we are touched by grace!!!
The healing power of grace!!!
love god . .
love god . .
love god . .
by placing ourselves in divine hands. . .
Love God by letting Him do His will with Us. . .
To mold us in God’s image and glue us back together. . .
Love God by praying. . .
By immersing ourselves in his word. . .
By receiving the pure grace and love of the sacraments!!!
And as soon as we were touched. . .
Once we’re healed. . .
Has been reconfigured. . .
Glued together by the Divine Artist. . .
Then the Divine Artist sends us out
to become a healer of brokenness. . .
Instruments in Chaos!!!
wounded healers. . .
As Kelly says:
“We all own
[as children of God. . .created and conformed in the image of God. . .
and healed. . .
glued back together]. . .
We become gold dust
needed for gluing
other people together again. . .
[help] make her more beautiful andadorable like never before.
Our love,
Connection,
Assumption,
Generosity,
community,
and friendliness
These are gold dust” (Kelly, Life is Messy, 3-8).
How we lead them. . .
and leave her. . .
the divine artist!!!
Dear neighbor!!!
Dear neighbor!!!
Help restore them with love. . .
God’s love!!!
Life is messy!!!
But chaos does not rule our lives. . .
What we do with clutter determines our lives!!!
Can something that has been broken. . .
to be reassembled in this way
that makes it more beautiful than ever?
Absolutely!!!!
As an example, just look at pictures of
Kintsugi pottery on the internet. . .
But more important. . .
look at the saints!!!
How does all this happen?. . .
The sanitation. . .
The Cure. . .
be formed into true human beauty?
As???
love god . .
And dear neighbor!!!

About the book
Life is messy.
It’s not a paint-in-the-lines exercise.
It’s a wild and outrageous invitation
full of uncertain results.
Life’s clutter is both inevitable and unexpected.
It’s full of delightful mysteries
and frustrating predicaments.
In our throwaway culture
We throw away broken things.
So what will we do with broken people
broken relationships, broken institutions, broken families,
and of course our own broken selves?
We are all broken and wounded.
This book is about putting our lives back together,
and allow us to be put back together,
when life doesn’t go the way we imagined.
Based on his own heartbreaking personal diaries,
Matthew Kelly shares the worst three years of his life
influenced him by pursuing this question:
Can someone who has been broken be healed?
and become more beautiful and lovable
than ever before?
The answer will fill you with hope.
There has never been a more urgent need
so that we can take care of what is going on inside us.
Thats is quite easy
the right book at the right time.
