Sunroof drain tubes unclogged
Hi everyone, I just bought an ’05 and have done the mandatory repairs and maintenance. Just thought I’d share the method I used to clean my clogged sunroof drain pipes. I don’t have an air compressor in my house so I tried using a weed killer line to break up the clog. It was too weak to push through the clog so I tried to find the end of the drain pipe hoping I could break the clog with a coat hanger… No dice. The pipes come out somewhere in the sill. I couldn’t even see the end of the drain pipe after removing the plastic rocker panel. Then I had an idea – I had some 1/4 inch nylon tubing that came with the humidifier I installed in my house last winter. It worked perfectly! It was stiff enough that I could really push on the clog. But what it really did was take a long gulp of water and blow it up the tube. The first time some of the water came back up the drain hose so I had a bucket to catch. The second time it exploded right out. Success!*WARNING* Forcing water through a long, small-diameter hose can cause fluctuations in the blood supply to your brain, causing light-headedness and possible fainting (so take it easy and have a place to sit nearby )After blowing out all four drain pipes I reattached them and secured them with zip ties to keep them from coming loose. It seems a valuable owner already had one who did this and fixed it with a small extension. pictures below

Just did mine, an 04. For reference, I spoke to the dealer while I was there (unsuccessfully) to source some OEM mats and the dealer charges for the repair which includes removing seats and carpeting etc. included for complete cleaning and drying. out, was over $700. I mentioned that I might replace the carpet and somehow forced him to only give me the cost of “the repair” without all the interior trimmings and he still quoted me close to $500. I was stunned. Anyway, called my local shop which I have used for years, he hadn’t done this particular model but had done the repair on another vehicle before and said it would probably be an hour shop job, two at most and those cost of the sealant. So imagine a C-note at most and I was pretty keen on letting him do that but figured what the heck – looking at the youtube video it all seemed pretty easy so I did made it myself. Took about an hour, wasn’t difficult at all, except I forgot to put on latex gloves so cleaning was a bit messy. It’s still drying but tomorrow I’ll run some water and see how I did it. If I failed (which is possible knowing myself) I just admit the point and let my workshop redo it lol. The cost was $12 for a large RTV tube and an hour of time in my driveway. In my case the valve/drain was also clogged so I cleaned that too. The seal really didn’t look too bad ie it wasn’t completely rotted but it was still completely wet from the previous day’s rain so water was obviously getting through. Hope I did a good job and the problem is solved. The next step is replacing the carpet. Even without water in it, it’s quite littered since the previous owner used a lot of coffee/cola/etc. If anyone has carpet suggestions, I’m all ears
