But that won’t change the fact that you don’t have many (or any) close friends who are long-distance dating. Why is this so difficult?

I think that’s because every dating relationship, as it grows, becomes a very important part of your life. And whenever other people don’t understand a significant part of your life, you feel lonely.

I can compare it to the experience of moving to another country with my husband. For seven months, my life was different in almost every way from the lives of my friends and family back home.

Whenever someone called me to catch up, I knew they cared. But I also knew that she had no idea what to ask me. This part of my life was a mystery to her because she had no experience with it.

In the same way, your friends may want to sympathize with you, but all they can do is show sympathy.

I don’t want to minimize the pain of distance. I lived and felt this sorrow.

But I also find it sad how easily I forget that other people are lonely too. I’m so consumed by my own struggles that I forget to listen when it’s my friend’s turn to speak. I keep the cycle of caring-but-not-really.

Really everyone. Show someone you care and there you are. With the love you received from Christ, you can love others.

The beauty is, the more you reach out to people who are different from you, the less you will care that your life isn’t the same.

A new study of 1,000 Americans who have been in long-distance relationships found that whether or not you and your partner make it through the long-distance phase comes down to a coin toss.

The new survey, conducted by KIIROO, examined the burdens of keeping things fresh while far apart and examined whether respondents’ relationships survived the distance. Only 60 percent actually do so.
