Help! Lost my Beardie in my house!

I’ve searched EVERYWHERE.

She has been missing since 1 p.m. yesterday. I took her out of her cage, put her on the floor and went to do some laundry. Usually she just falls asleep under my computer desk when I let her out, but yesterday she must have actually walked around for the first time! I feel terrible that I wasn’t paying attention to her, I’m so used to her just crawling and sleeping in the same spots that I thought she would be fine!

I’ve searched under the sofa, entertainment center, computer desk, tables, dog crate – EVERYWHERE!

Does anyone know where they normally want to be or have any suggestions???

She usually hangs out and sleeps in dark, cold places for some reason – but again, I’ve searched them all!

Do you think I can lure her out or something? I would try to let a dubia run around, but she’s not much of a forage hunter.

She is the tallest and oldest Beardie I have but she is the one I lose the most!

I’m very concerned because I have cats and dogs and I know she’s not going to just crawl out of wherever she is. Adventure isn’t a trait she takes on, which is why I’m so shocked that she moved when I left her alone.

I’m afraid she will just stay in a dark, cold place and die.

I’ve learned my lesson in supervision.

ANY input appreciated.

Many Thanks.

How to Find a Lost Bearded Dragon in Your House?

If you search the internet you will find several stories of people who have lost their precious beards for days or even months! Some bearded dragons are mischievous and love to explore their surroundings. Sometimes they also flee when they feel hungry or are looking for a comfortable resting area.

If you have a stray bearded dragon in your home, check the soil first as they are soil dwellers. Also, they love warm and humid hidden spaces, so be sure to check them out.

To learn more about how to find a lost bearded dragon, read on.

How do I find my lost bearded dragon?

Below is a step-by-step guide that will help you find your bearded dragon.

Step 1: Check the tank first

There were times when the owners searched the whole house but ended up finding their beards in the tanks!

So make sure you check the tank first. Here’s what you need to do:

Check the corners of the tank first to make sure your beard isn’t sitting there. Next, if there are multiple decorative pieces in the tank, move them one by one and check under or inside them. Beardies love to hide in cozy corners!

If you’re sure your beard isn’t in the tank, you need to start a proper search.

Step 2: Check the floors of each room

You may already know that bearded dragons are bottom dwellers. Therefore, the chances of them climbing furniture are extremely slim. This makes it easier for you as you only have to focus on the ground.

You need to thoroughly check the floor of the room where you keep your beard. Go to their level and use a flashlight to search the corners. Then go to the other rooms and repeat the same thing. Pay special attention to areas like the kitchen and bathroom. Because they’re warm and humid, your beard might be drawn to them more than any other place.

With any search, make sure you search every possible place your beard can hide. Sometimes you can find them in the least expected areas!

Step 3: Move shoes, boxes, plants and other items around

It’s not enough to just check the bottoms and corners. If you have stored many items on the floor in your house, your bearded bear may hide under or even behind it. So you need to move them and start searching.

Here’s what you need to do:

First, check all the shoes lying on the floor. You can sit inside.

Next, check the insides of any empty crates lying on the floor. Also move them around as your beard may be hiding behind it.

In the living room and bedroom – move the pillows, blankets and throws and check out the surroundings.

and – Move the pillows, blankets and throws and check the surroundings. If you have plants in your house, check behind them as well.

Finally, move as many things as possible around your house and check their proximity.

Step 4: Check hidden and closed areas

If you have hidden and locked rooms in your house, now is the time to explore them to find your lost bear. Some common hidden and enclosed spaces that your Beardie may hide in are:

The corners of the doors

Under the furniture such as sofas, cabinets, sofas, beds, tables, etc.

Behind the sinks, toilet seats, washing machines and refrigerators.

When looking for them, always keep your ears and eyes open for clues like hissing noises, footprints, fecal debris, and more.

Step 5: Create a special hotspot for your Beardie

Have you searched all areas of your home? Well, you can tempt your bearded dragon to come out on its own by setting up an area for them to bask.

Here’s what you need to do:

Take an empty shoe box or other cardboard box and place it on the floor, preferably under a heat lamp. Next, cut holes in three directions of the box. Then place damp napkins or paper towels inside. Finally, place the shoe box against the wall from the side without holes. You can also put insects like mealworms and a bowl of water in the box.

As soon as your bearded dragon feels hungry and is also looking for a safe place, it will be lured close to this box in this way.

Step 6 (when Beardie is found): Hold her properly and place her in the tank

Finding a Beardie is a challenging task. So once you’ve found one, make sure you don’t scare it into running away from you and hiding again.

Sometimes a bearded dragon feels threatened when it’s hiding and you find it. So try to make them comfortable by following the steps below:

Once you’ve found him, speak to your beard in a soft and encouraging tone. Let her know that you are not a threat to her. Next, hold her from behind and carefully place her back in her tank. Don’t suddenly pick up your beard as it may get scared and attack you.

How do you make sure your bearded dragon doesn’t get lost again?

If your bearded dragon has escaped once, there is a chance it will escape again. So if you don’t want to go through all the ordeal to find them, try the ways mentioned below.

Start by looking for possible escape areas in your Beardie’s tank, such as open/loose vents, broken locks, etc.

If you don’t have locks, try a Vivarium lock. It will help secure the tank properly.

Take out all the high decorations. Some bearded ones can climb on it and escape from the tank.

Finally, you can also search online for lid locks or well-secured tanks.

Final Thoughts

Some bearded dragons love to mess around and wander here and there! So if you lost yours, try the methods given above.

Don’t forget to check every corner of your home. Often your bearded dragon is in a place you least expect it to be!

Lost Bearded Dragon Turns Up Safe 10 Days Later

A bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps) that emerged from its enclosure on June 13 and then spent 10 days migrating about 4 km from its home was brought back

A bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps) that left its enclosure on June 13 and then spent 10 days migrating about 4 km from its home was returned to its owner after being found by a bearded dragon guard.

Groot is mentored by William Hill. It was found by Cara Velnes who bought a bearded dragon enclosure last year to get one for Christmas but didn’t. So the case was put away. Lucky for Groot.

According to CBC, Velnes heard some children outside her home and when she went to investigate, she found the reptile under a truck.

“I ended up pulling [the shell] out and having to explain to my kids why I have a huge shell for a lizard,” Velnes told the CBC. “Of course the kids wanted to keep it, but that’s not my situation – we can’t do that.”

Velnes reported the lost lizard on June 23 on the St. Boniface Facebook group and someone on this site noticed the lizard through a post on a Winnipeg lost dogs site, although the beardie is not a dog, although some act like dogs could.

5 facts about the bearded dragon

Two hours after Velnes posted the found lizard, Hill and his sister knocked on their door to retrieve the reptile. Hill had been dropping lost reptile flyers around the neighborhood when Groot went missing and was about to give up when he received a text message.

“I can’t wait to get him home, put him in his cage, warm him up, feed him some worms, see how he’s doing and then I’ll take him to the vet tomorrow,” said Hill to CBC.

And Velnes? She’s still without Beardie, but that may be about to change. “It’s a birthday in two weeks, so we’ll see,” Velnes told CBC.
