Are moldavite and malachite the same?

How Do I Tell Malachite and Moldavite Apart? It’s pretty easy overall: malachite is a banded, smooth stone and moldavite is irregularly shaped chunks of glass with a unique surface texture.

Smoky Quartz Meaning: Healing Properties & Everyday Uses

Malachite and moldavite are two great stones for collectors, but the similar name and color can lead to confusion. Luckily, as long as you know what you’re looking at, it’s easy to tell the two apart.

Let’s get into that and I will break down the differences between malachite and moldavite and even give you some information on how to identify fakes of both!

What is malachite?

Malachite is a green, banded, copper-bearing stone. The lush green has made it a perennial favorite among rock scavengers, and it’s still used as a low-priority copper ore in some areas.

Malachite is also easily worked, making it a longtime favorite stone. The prices for exceptional cabochons can be quite high and there is enough market for fakes.

Malachite has a 3-4 on the Mohs scale depending on where it was found and the individual formation. It comes in many different shapes, including an attractive botryoidal shape that forms clusters of rounded stones.

Azurite is often closely associated with malachite. The specimens in which the two are combined are highly sought after.

It is important to remember that malachite is an opaque, banded, green stone that is slightly softer.

What is Moldavite?

Moldavite is not a rock or mineral as we commonly understand it. Rather, Moldavite is a glass that was formed when a crater hit Czechoslovakia. This formation is called a tektite.

Moldavite is of terrestrial origin but formed during an impact. The material thrown outward is sand, which has reached a critical temperature, and moldavite owes its unique shape to this “hurling”.

Moldavite is invariably green, ranging from a deep olive green to a lighter blue-green. Unfortunately Moldavite is also a glass, making it easy to counterfeit for the high prices it commands. Many of the common “tells” such as internal bubbles are present even in natural samples, making counterfeiting a source of constant frustration.

Nevertheless, the stone has gained a lot of popularity in recent years. It is easy to recognize: it forms in irregular chunks, often with a much thinner end.

Moldavite has little in common with most other stones other than the superficiality of being a hard, natural material. This interesting “stone” is available, and Moldavite is unlikely to be confused with anything else.

How are they similar?

Both are technically stones, and both are easy to counterfeit. Not much more do these two have in common, confusing them is more due to a misremembered name than poor identification.

Considering this, even the fakes are made in completely different ways and require different methods of identification.

How do I distinguish malachite and moldavite?

Overall it’s pretty simple: malachite is a banded, smooth stone and moldavite are irregularly shaped chunks of glass with a unique surface texture.

Identifying which samples of both are fake will be a bigger problem for most people.

Identifying Fake Malachite

Malachite has the dubious distinction of being highly sought after and easily faked visually. Of course, since the price is high, you must expect to come across fakes in the market. However, most fakes are of terrible quality and will only catch up with a newbie.

There are two main types of counterfeits: manufactured resin and “reconstituted” malachite.

If you already have the pattern, it’s easy to test: heat a needle with a stove or lighter and tongs. Push the needle into a part of the stone (preferably somewhere out of sight. If the hot needle penetrates the stone, creates a cloud of smoke, creates an odor, or otherwise reacts?

Your sample is fake. This test detects both types of fakes without serious problems.

Only being able to recognize them from pictures requires a little more finesse. As a rule, fake malachite has very clean patterns and bright colors. Natural malachite is often dark with some blurring between the boundaries of different color layers.

The cost is the big one: I have never seen counterfeit malachite sold at a normal malachite cost. It is almost always cheaper than real malachite.

The recognisability and easily identifiable coloration make it a gold mine for scammers targeting newcomers, but most collectors eye malachite carefully enough to avoid blunders.

Identifying Counterfeit Moldavite

Moldavite is a glass. More specifically, it’s a silica-based glass… just like all types of glass we use in our daily lives. It’s also worth a lot more than most people think, making counterfeiting a lucrative market.

And there are many more fakes than meets the eye. It’s hard to overstate the presence of fake Moldavite in the market. This is the point where I have serious doubts that most collectors have actually come across a single piece of the “real deal”.

If moldavite seems cheap… it’s probably fake.

Read more: Real vs Fake Moldavite: How to Tell the Difference

If a chunk of moldavite is a lot bigger than a dime and doesn’t make you shriek at the price… it’s probably fake.

If a chunk of moldavite is a “good” color, i.e. green rather than squishy brown, it’s probably fake.

You cannot identify moldavite just by looking at it. At this point, there are even special molds that are made for counterfeiting moldavite. The whole market for the stuff is a real mess. Additionally, there is no reliable way to 100% identify Moldavite at home.

Genuine moldavite can be found, but it takes a trained eye and a lot of trust to find a good source. Moldavite is rare, comes from a small part of the world, fetches high prices… and cannot be distinguished from glass by a layperson.

It’s the perfect storm for unscrupulous traders.

Always buy Moldavite with caution. It’s not a good market for a beginning rock collector, but if you decide to buy online, be realistic with your expectations. No one wants to sell an egg-sized chunk of lime-green moldavite for $20 when it charges a price per carat even for small, irregular samples.

Can I keep all my crystals together?

First, Can Crystals Be Stored Together? The short answer is yes.

Smoky Quartz Meaning: Healing Properties & Everyday Uses

As the saga of your growing crystal collection continues, figuring out the Storage chapter can seem tricky. In a perfect world, we could all flaunt our crystals. Nosing around the house, wrapped around our wrists, in the car and at work. There really is a healing crystal for every occasion! But when you have more crystals than you can use, you need to find a storage solution that works for your crystal family. Today we share tips on best maintenance practices and ideas on where to store your crystals.

First, can crystals be stored together?

The short answer is yes. But do you know how some crystals make great pairings? How their energies intertwine like the fate of two lovers? The same principle applies to storing the stones when they are not visible. Their energies can be affected, which is why we generally recommend storing crystals in a natural substance that promotes their vitality.

If your collection is small, you don’t need to weigh yourself down with specific storage options. If your collection has grown quite large, here are some storage options:

By Color: This often means that your crystals will also be stored through energy when crystals of the same feathers flock together. Red, pink, white – color code them all!

From Crystal Family: SIMPLE – Keep all your quartz, selenite, amethyst in their own box/compartment/bag and so on.

By Intent: This will depend a lot on you, but separating crystals according to their best energy use can help you know where to go if you’re looking for the crystal in the moment.

By Shape and Fineness: Separating by crystal type is much more important than intent or color. This is because some crystals are more delicate than others. If you are unsure about the durability of each stone, you can check using the Mohs hardness scale.

Sometimes you can tell by the appearance of the crystal. For example, opal, selenite and hematite look quite delicate and are very brittle. So you should make sure that you wrap each of these crystals individually in a soft cloth or tissue paper before setting them aside.

Not all hard stones are stable. Diamonds, for example, are the hardest stones of all, but they can still break easily. So add this consideration to your saving process.

Putting the softer gems and polished crystals in pouches where they can be rocked and moved is a recipe for chips and scratches — especially if you’re placing them alongside raw stones. In addition to affecting the appearance of the crystal, chips can also change the flow of energy or a crystal. So pay attention to which crystals go with which and what level of protection they are kept in!

Storage boxes for healing crystals

Yes, your handy storage boxes are the best option for storing your crystals! The truth is, your gems don’t need a crystal-specific solution to be kept safe until you’re ready to touch them. Whether you are traveling and need to group them, or like to have them organized and tucked away, regular storage boxes are your top choice.

However, there are some basic ground rules for storing crystals and stones in boxes. The best idea is not to use plastic for storage as it is not a breathable material for the crystals to release their energy.

Many people dislike storing their natural stones with a material that is not natural. This feeling dates back to ancient times and continues to this day. So if you only have plastic containers – like those meant for storing beads or craft items – try to either wrap your crystals before you put them in, or line the container with natural fabric to protect their energies.

Try silk, suede, or whatever natural fabric you have on hand. The color of the fabric can also play a role in the energy conservation of your crystal. Black is usually the color of choice as it absorbs all colors of the spectrum. White is a strong runner-up as it is known to contain all wavelengths of visible light.

Wooden Bowls: These natural storage options lend themselves to the earthy feel of crystals. Depending on your crystal storage needs, simply choose a wooden bowl large enough to hold your chosen gemstones.

Drawstring Bags: Try organza bags, velvet bags, or make your own from your favorite fabric. This is a great solution for storing tumbled stones or small gems that should be protected from sunlight.

Where to store your crystals

Some people like to put their crystal-filled jewelry boxes in the bedroom when the intentions are aligned. Others have a dedicated craft area of their home for bulkier storage units. Where you store your excess crystals is entirely up to you!

Keep in mind that some crystals will lose their luster and vitality if left in direct sunlight for too long. If you’re looking to keep a handful of divine geodes in your favorite wooden bowl near a window, it’s a good idea to check that they’re sunlight-safe.

Here is a short list of popular crystals that should not be stored in sunlight:

amethyst

citrine

Howlite

sapphire

fluorite

rose quartz

smoky quartz

carnelian

celestite

You should also consider the electronics in the house. For example, Black Tourmaline is a powerful protector against negative energies emanating from electronics. So while you’re considering keeping extra black tourmaline crystals around the office, you should also make sure you don’t keep any glowing magnet stones like hematite anywhere near those electronics.

Last but not least, think of water. While you certainly envision yourself keeping your crystal collection in wooden bowls and large drawers for safekeeping, some people enjoy spicing up their garden with their surplus stones. If you plan to store crystals outdoors or near a place that may get wet when it rains, such as a windowsill, make sure you only use crystals that can withstand the rain. Some crystals are known to deteriorate from water damage and lose their vibrant appearance.

Keep crystals close to your heart

We know that crystals begin to overflow after we begin to feel their gentle, positive effects on our mood and well-being. Listen, we’re obsessed with crystals too! Ultimately, there is no right or wrong system for storing your crystals. Play around with organizers, storage units, decorative items and more to find a system that works for you. Just remember to check in with the crystal family who has been in a crate for some time. They will want to hear from you!

Which gemstone is very powerful?

DIAMOND. Properties: Relationships, love, and mental clarity. It’s the strongest gemstone, so it’s only fitting that diamonds are said to bond people together (and not just because they’re so pretty).

Smoky Quartz Meaning: Healing Properties & Everyday Uses

Despite what you might think, touting the “healing” properties of gemstones isn’t just a fleeting Hollywood trend reserved for Miranda Kerr and Spencer Pratt. Gems and stones have been believed for millennia to possess metaphysical properties, alter our mood and heal a spectrum of ailments. Here we present a field guide to the most popular stones and the powers attributed to them, from promoting fertility and increasing creativity to warding off naysayers and negative energy. You think it’s all crap? That’s fine — but in the end, could there really be any harm in surrounding yourself with glittery, prettier things?

AGATE

Price range: $50-$500

Properties: protection, creativity and harmony. If your emotions tend to go from zero to 60, this kaleidoscope of a stone might be your best bet – it’s an aura-cleansing, balancing jewel designed to harmonize mind and body and ward off negativity. Because each agate stone is incredibly different from the next, pay attention to color for added impact. For example, a bulls-eye-style stone plays the role of the evil eye, providing extra protection from negative people and feelings, while blue agate fights the blues. Expectant mothers should invest in white stones as they are the panacea for pregnancy – relieving morning sickness and labour, promoting healthy milk flow and providing protection for both mother and baby.

More from ELLE

AMETHYST

Price range: $50-$500

Attributes: peace, clairvoyance, emotional protection and sobriety. Essentially, the purple variant of quartz is the yogi among gemstones: it’s all about staying grounded while maintaining a higher spiritual perspective. Wearing it during meditation is said to deepen the practice and create heightened awareness; Psychics and psychics rely on the stone to amplify intuition and open all spiritual channels. (Many recommend sleeping with amethyst under your pillow to prevent insomnia and promote lucid dreaming). It is also a healing stone and can bring relief and peace even in the face of addiction and emotional trauma. Another plus: Ancient Greek mythology insists that this “stone of sobriety” is a cure for intoxication. (Maybe it’s another hangover cure worth trying?)

AMBER

Price range: $50-$250

Traits: Healing, Wisdom and Sexuality. It’s technically a resin, not a stone, but amber is valued for its immense healing properties nonetheless. Many believe that it wards off negativity and in turn purifies the mind to create more space to focus on important and positive things. (This ideology extends to the purification of physical pain.) On the other hand, the warm, fiery hue is also directly related to the sacral chakra—that is, the root of all sexual pleasure.

AQUAMARINE

Price range: $350 – $1,000

Attributes: courage, happiness and inner peace. If public speaking isn’t your thing, might we suggest wearing this sea-blue jewel to your next big presentation? Aquamarine is believed to induce feelings of self-love, calm and guidance, and allay nerves – the perfect cocktail for those on the shadowy end of the spectrum. And while traveling with something this precious can be a bit of a gamble, it should be noted that this gem also offers good luck and protection, especially for those on the move.

CITRINE

Price range: $150- $650

Attributes: success, money and inspiration. You might want to fill your desk with these yellow rocks as they are about personal growth and prosperity. But while professional success (and an influx of cash) is certainly all well and good, that energy can also extend to less tangible pursuits: the gemstone can provide a burst of inspiration during a creative rut, for example, or help with any other relationships that need a little smoothing to need.

DIAMOND

Price range: $350 and up

Traits: Relationships, love and mental clarity. It’s the strongest gemstone, so it’s only fitting that diamonds should bring people together (and not just because they’re so pretty). And strength isn’t the only physical element that shares a dual metaphysical benefit—all of this multifaceted light bodes well for intellectual and emotional enlightenment. In other words, if you’re feeling light-headed about making a decision, a diamond could help clear things up.

EMERALD

Price range: $400 and up

Qualities: love, intuition and abundance. This signature green hue represents rebirth and personal growth—and okay, a little money, too. But while money can’t buy love, you could get both with emeralds – the gemstone is actually most associated with the heart chakra. Many also believe it can improve memory and intuition.

GARNET

Price range: $50-$500

Traits: Manifestation, Health, and Protection. The word garnet might make you see red, but the truth is that the stone comes in virtually every color, each with their own metaphysical properties. Still, that ordinary scarlet hue might serve as a reminder of its purported powers: Red Garnets are intimately linked to the primordial fire that drives all passion, energy, and creativity swiftly toward manifestation. (And since they’re also a powerful aphrodisiac, you can take that mindset as literally as you like.) As for the rest of the rainbow, all garnets are natural purifiers: they purify and offer protection from any negative energy that gets in your way . Also nicknamed the ‘stone of health’, the gemstone is said to promote physical well-being and strength – although we recommend supplementing this belief with a healthy diet and exercise, just to be sure.

JADE

Price range: $50- $250*

*The most common types of jade (jadeite and nephrite) are generally inexpensive, but sought-after varieties such as Burmese jade are extremely valuable

Attributes: balance, luck and health. Like many of the other stones on this list, jade is a little misunderstood: we know it best for its green hue, but it also comes in lavender, red, black, yellow, and white. On the other hand, perhaps its most famous color is so famous because of its good luck charm status: people have believed in the green stone’s power to cultivate an abundance of health and divine energy for centuries. But that doesn’t mean it won’t lead you to your achievements – a symbol of luck and manifestation, rubbing jade could put your goals on the path to fulfillment. Green crystals are also often said to cleanse and balance the heart chakra, allowing for the wisdom that emotions are important but can also cloud proper judgement. But don’t necessarily feel tempted to discriminate: in all hues, jade is a stone of the higher good, protecting all noble endeavors from negativity and harm.

LABRADORITE

Price range: $50- $750

Traits: Magic, Transformation and Intuition. Compare this smoky, mystical-looking stone to a crystal ball — metaphysics uses it to tap deep into intuition, recall lost dreams, and clear a foggy subconscious. All of this should bode well for the great personal transformations and life changes that labradorite is meant to inspire.

LAPIS LAZULI

Price range: $250- $750

Attributes: Truth, Wisdom and Power. A long-standing symbol of royalty, lapis is all about power – inner strength. In conjunction with the Third Eye (i.e. our intuitive and psychic vision), this blue speckled stone could help expand consciousness both inward and outward and open the mind to new ideas. Likewise, there are no secrets around with Lapis as it is all about encouraging honesty and expression. Fun fact: It’s also said to help with menstrual cramps. (Hey – it’s worth a try.)

MALACHITE

Price range: $150- $750

Properties: transformation and protection. If you’re going on a personal journey, you might take this opaque green rock with you on the journey – it’s said to simultaneously encourage metamorphosis and shield any negative energy that might hinder your growth. And the metaphysical properties extend to real life too: for example, for fear of flying, malachite could help suppress irrational fears while providing protection for travel.

MOONSTONE

Price: $100-$650

Characteristics: calm, femininity and inner perspective. Would-be navel-gazers, take note: Moonstone might give you the final push to slow down and look within. And much like the moon it is named after, this stone is a symbol for women around the world – empowering feminine energy and offering protection during pregnancy, childbirth and beyond.

OBSIDIAN

Price range: $50- $650

Features: protection. The main role of this black volcanic rock is to ward off negative energy and help heal existing internal scars. But if you’re lucky enough to snag it in a green hue, it will target a certain type of negativity — those naysayers who tend to suck the life energy out of any situation.

ONYX

Price range: $50 – $650

Properties: Protection and healing. Not only do obsidian and onyx look similar, they offer nearly identical metaphysical benefits. It’s worth keeping this stone around if you tend to encounter people who focus their energy on themselves – taking your energy with them in the process. (We all deserve plenty of me time.)

OPAL

Price: $150-$750

Characteristics: creativity and inspiration. Fun fact: Opals naturally contain large amounts of water. On a metaphysical level, this means that these stones are all about going with the flow – they can bounce and move forward despite obstacles. And as for the dazzling colors that dance and change with the light? Think of them as a metaphor for spontaneity, creativity and inspiration – and just a little bit of unpredictability. Yes, this really is your YOLO brick.

PEARL

Price: $50-$750

Characteristics: calm, honesty and femininity. Pearls are as pure and serious as they look—they encourage openness, expose truths, and suppress supposedly destructive behaviors. If you aim to get in touch with your inner goddess, you can also try to keep her with you. They’re also incredibly versatile – our editorial colleagues at ELLE China love to use pearl powder to give the skin a glow and – who would have thought – it’s so packed with calcium, trace minerals and amino acids that a lot of people tout it, taking it orally.

QUARTZ

Price: $50-$550

Properties: Meditation, Energy and Clarity. It shouldn’t be too difficult for you to stock up on quartz – it happens to be the second most abundant mineral on the planet. That being said, there are many varieties, three of which you have already read about here (agate, amethyst and citrine). In its clear form, quartz is the perfect addition to a growing crystal collection as it is believed to enhance the benefits of other stones. It does the same with your thoughts, making it so much easier to focus and find your center during your next meditation session. Looking for a boost to your romantic endeavors? Try on rose quartz for size.

RUBY

Price: $500 and up

Qualities: Energy, courage and love. Interestingly, rubies are essentially just red sapphires – they both come from the stone corundum; The nickname “sapphire” only represents all hues except red. (Geology lesson over.) That being said, rubies are considered one of the most powerful stones, packed with a fire that connects directly to the root chakra (the very base of your body’s energy flow). . If you feel somehow lethargic in physical or mental activities, this is the stone to covet: it will increase stamina in all aspects of your life. This includes the bedroom – rubies are considered a powerful aphrodisiac.

SAPPHIRE

Price: $400 and up

Qualities: calm, intuition and positive energy. Again, sapphires are multicolored, so each shade has its own characteristics. The connecting thread, however, is this: sapphires as a whole are strongly connected to the third eye, promoting higher intuition, serenity, and all-round good vibes. (It’s worth noting that these powers are particularly strong in the very common blue variety.)

TOPAZ

Price: $250 and up*

*Price depends on color. Blue topaz is most common and generally has the lowest price.

Characteristics: balance, calm, health and honesty. If you’re feeling anxious, burned out, or just plain out of whack, Topaz could very well be your crystalline panacea. This very versatile stone is said to realign the body’s meridians – or energy points -, relieving tension and keeping emotions in check. If you think it’s time to practice hard self-love, stock up on the blue version of these gemstones, which are believed to encourage honesty and clear communication with yourself and others.

TOURMALINE

Price: $300 and up

Qualities: Compassion, understanding and positive energy. If you want (or need) to fall in love with yourself, let tourmaline be your guide – this stone is all about emotional self-indulgence. Tourmaline comes in a whole array of colors, but if you find a watermelon tourmaline — meaning a stone with a green exterior and a red core — you’re in luck: this is a color combination coveted for its ability to open up is the heart to gratitude, empathy and happy feelings.

TURQUOISE

Price: $50-$750

Traits: Self acceptance, healing, love and appreciation for nature. It’s a cliché that those with a bohemian aesthetic tend to favor turquoise, but perhaps that’s because the stone has a sort of back-to-basics mojo. It is said to build oneness with the earth and appreciation of its beauty – and some even believe it can fight pollution. (If only it were that easy.) This cohesion extends to the striving of the heart as well, as turquoise is believed to unite feminine and masculine energies into one.

What is moldavite crystal good for?

Healers use Moldavite to help remove emotions and clear the aura of any unwanted baggage from a past life. Finally, Moldavite is believed to heighten a sense of self-awareness and help people who are seeking to uncover emotions or feelings that keep them stuck in unhappy situations in the present.

Smoky Quartz Meaning: Healing Properties & Everyday Uses

What is Moldavite?

If you are looking for a new gemstone, Moldavite is a beautiful specimen that will introduce calm, ethereal greens to your collection.

Moldavite is a natural glass that has a unique formation behind it; It is theories that it was formed 15 million years ago by the heat of an asteroid impact, after which the hot glass was flown across Europe, where it is continuously mined today. Technically, it’s a tektite, a group of impact glasses formed by meteorite impacts. The chemical formula is as follows:

SiO2 (+ Al2O3)

Moldavite has a Mohs hardness of between 5.5 and 7Oh, which is very similar to most other glasses. It can appear translucent or transparent, with swirls and bubbles inside that bring out the overall moss-green hue.

Where does it come from?

Moldavite comes from Europe mainly from areas along the Rise and Steinem craters. These two craters are thought to have formed 15 million years ago and tumbled over southeastern Germany, breaking into pieces as they approached and displacing parts of what is now Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.

Most of the moldavite solidified in the air before impact, and a significant part of it fell in the southern areas of the Czech Republic.

Why is it so expensive?

Moldavite is expensive for a handful of reasons. First, most of the moldavite exists in sediments from the middle to late Miocene, when the craters fell. Much of this remains buried deep in the earth and, along with the crater impacts, can only be found in a few regions. This requires careful and extensive measures to remove it from the ground, which leads to high costs.

Second, the moldavite found in these areas is mostly in the form of droplet-shaped particles, only a few centimeters in diameter. Considering how small they are in their raw and natural form, the process of refining Moldavite as a gemstone and cutting it to wear it in jewelry is gently removed on an already small piece of Moldavite. Larger pieces are therefore very difficult to come by, making even seemingly small pieces of the gem quite expensive.

Unfortunately the cost of moldavite has increased as there is only a limited supply of moldavite and it is unlikely to form naturally and reappear on earth as this limited supply comes with a demand from those who are spiritual focus more on its healing properties. This has led many counterfeiters to attempt to create more natural finishes on imitations.

What determines its price and value?

As with most gemstones, Moldavite’s price and value depend on its color and size. A piece of gem quality moldavite is very brittle and must be handled with care. You’ll most often see it in earrings or on pendants and pins, any piece of jewelry that isn’t subject to regular impact or potential abrasion. Moldavite’s durability is very similar to most artificial glasses, meaning it’s not safe to use for things like rings.

There is a very high quality section of Moldavite in the Czech Republic at 86.5 carats, but most pieces are very small and very delicate. Color is another facet that affects price and value. Value in relation to color can sometimes be subjective with different gemstones. In this case, Moldavite is known for its unique properties and the somewhat otherworldly nature of its development, making the green hues much more popular. But in reality, the droplet-shaped particles can be found between shades of green and brown. Browns are typically less highly valued and less expensive than greens.

Likewise, there may be areas that are yellowish rather than green with white streaks within. It is often transparent or somewhat translucent as it is a type of glass, and the level of clarity found in each piece can impact price and value.

What Are the Healing Benefits of Moldavite?

Many people believe that Moldavite came to earth to help the planet overcome its current state, which is why Moldavite is heavily used in earth chakra healing rituals.

Moldavite is also a good stone for those looking to amplify the vibrations of their other crystals. There are claims that moldavite has metaphysical properties, so you will find that it is easier to connect with the higher forces in the cosmos and your higher self if you gaze into a more translucent piece of the gemstone while meditating.

Similarly, many people believe that Moldavite has its own cosmic oversoul due to its origin, meaning that those who possess this gem will be better able to connect with all Ascended Masters.

Moldavite is believed to have metaphysical properties that allow you to transcend time. Because of this, many people find the stone useful when engaging in a past life or exploring the path their soul is taking in each direction of time.

Healers use Moldavite to clear emotions and clear the aura of unwanted baggage from a past life.

Finally, Moldavite is believed to boost self-esteem and help people trying to uncover emotions or feelings that they are holding onto in the present in unfortunate situations. These individuals will be able to uncover the things that are keeping them trapped in an unhappy present and move forward.

How long has Moldavite been around?

Technically, moldavite has been around since it landed on the planet about fifteen million years ago. In fact, however, Moldavite was not introduced to the scientific community until 1786. The term refers to the Vltava River in what is now the Czech Republic, where the first pieces were uncovered. Later, in 1900, another scientist found the gravel-sized chunks and found that the folds and indentations on the surface closely resembled the markings found on meteorites. Because of this, he suggested that they came from a meteor. Moldavite isotopic samples have confirmed that the composition of modern-day meteor samples is very similar.

Why is moldavite so popular now?

Moldavite has recently become popular for its association with extraterrestrials and its spiritual and metaphysical healing properties. Many people associate moldavite with transformative powers and the fact that it only occurs in one area on earth means that it will eventually run out and there will be no more left to mine.

Moldavite is said to have many benefits in terms of emotional healing powers and physical healing powers. Those who have started to focus more on their chakras have turned to moldavite gemstones and jewelry to help them:

align with their heart chakra and their third eye,

improvement of memory and balancing qualities of the brain,

use as a talisman that could bring luck,

wear around the chest of the necklace to help with the heart chakra for love and relationships

How to spot a fake Moldavite?

Imitation or fake Moldavite gemstones became very popular, especially in the Czech Republic where the stones occur naturally. Around the second half of the 19th century, a type of Czech garnet or river pearl was used. The green bottle glass did not appear in ordinary jewelry until the 20th century.

Regardless of how long fake moldavite jewelry has been around, if you want the real bargain it is important to know how to spot a fake moldavite.

In some situations, they could be counterfeit moldavite or green glass imitations. If you look very closely at the gemstone you will notice that most moldavites are transparent or translucent and the mossy appearance is often accentuated by internal whorls or bubbles.

A mineraloid with no crystal structure, lechatelirite is actually not a true mineral and is something you typically see in situations like meteorite impacts or lightning strikes. It is somewhat bubbly in shape and can be seen in sections of moldavite where the material has fractured and expanded.

This mineraloid doesn’t exist outside of these particular natural deposits, so fake moldavites simply won’t have them. You can look at a piece of fake moldavite green glass and see the same types of colors or exterior designs, but you won’t see the lechatelierite’s bubbly interior.

The key to finding authentic pieces and not well made fakes is to look at the texture and the many bubbles you see, but you can also look for the shiny or slightly wet appearance, a characteristic of authentic pieces but not fake pieces. Any faceted stone that has no inclusions or bubbles and looks like a clean or pristine piece of glass is very likely to be counterfeit.

Finally, it’s up to you to make sure you know where it was mined. If the gem was mined anywhere other than the Vltava Valley in what is now the Czech Republic, it is almost 100% a fake invitation. Authentic sellers should be more than able to provide you with information on where your gemstone was mined.

How to safely buy moldavite online?

When buying moldavite safely online, you should not only be aware of the different grades of moldavite or how to spot a fake from a real gem, but also where the moldavite came from.

When buying moldavite online you need to be aware of the different grades of moldavite.

First, there is high quality moldavite, which is commonly referred to as museum quality.

Second, there is medium quality.

Third, there is regular moldavite.

They can be distinguished by their appearance. At the bottom of the rung, the regular pieces of moldavite are typically much darker and highly saturated. They look very similar to the color of seaweed and the texture of the gemstone is usually more weathered with many indentations or markings. Normal quality moldavite is said to be made up of sections broken off from a larger piece.

In the middle, of course, there’s a medium quality that lands squarely in the middle, both in terms of color and structure.

At the other end of the spectrum, museum quality is much more translucent and costs significantly more. High-quality moldavite is usually reserved for handmade jewelry. It has fewer imperfections and could also be smoother on the outside.

More recently, Chinese manufacturers have worked very hard to mimic Moldavite’s weight and natural etching on counterfeit counterparts.

The refractive index measurements can help you identify good gems. The refractive index measurement is the difference between the speed of light in the

Moldavite gemstone and the speed of light in a normal vacuum.

While the best way to tell a fake from a real deal is quite complicated machinery, below is a table that may help you consider the properties of imitation and natural Moldavite:

Moldavite Chinese imitations 19th Century Czech imitations Color Light green to brown Light green Light green RI 1.480-1.510 1.520 1.525-1.580 Density 2.35 2.52 N/A Fluorescence Inert to UV light Chalk-like under shortwave UV light Inert to UV light Absorption Spectrum Minimum at 550 nm Maximum at 460 and 640 N/A

Does moldavite change color or deteriorate over time?

It is important to take care of your moldavite as it is very delicate. A soft-lined case with a lid made of polyurethane foam inserts can help you protect the gems.

Moldavite is considered a gem, but as mentioned earlier, it comes from the meteor and is technically a type of glass. If you soak the stone in water, it will deteriorate and eventually dissolve. It is imperative that you do not submerge it in water and that you keep it free from bumps, abrasions or anything of the sort that can aggravate its deterioration over time.

If you leave it alone, wear it infrequently, and store it properly when not in use, it’s not likely to noticeably deteriorate or change color. However, some say that if you use it for spiritual purposes, it changes color slightly depending on your mood.

How do I know if my moldavite is real?

Moldavite Visual Cues

The true moldavite is known for its olive green color, which varies from pale and translucent to different shades of deep forest green with possible brown stripes. Gas bubbles were often included in the moldavite formation. These bubbles are a very good indication of real moldavite.

Moldavite: Properties and What Stones It Pairs With, and Replacements

One of the greatest human abilities is the ability to change. When we look into the mirror of our soul and realize we don’t like what we see, we have the power to completely transform ourselves into something more desirable.

Our ability to transform ourselves sets us apart from other species. This means that we can access more than one story during our lifetime. By changing ourselves, we can create alternative lives and outcomes.

It goes without saying that change is difficult. Sometimes change is scary. When fear of change overcomes us and we worry about what lies behind a major transformation, we look for direction.

Moldavite is a stone of transformation. Harnessing the energy and high vibrations of this rare stone makes change more attractive and less frightening.

What is Moldavite?

Moldavite is an alien stone with intense powers that can be overwhelming.

Physical Properties of Moldavite

Moldavite is not actually a rock or crystal. It is a siliceous glass that is considered an inorganic mineraloid. It is considered inorganic because it did not originate on Earth. This glass is a form of tektite. Tektites are formed by meteorite impacts on Earth.

Moldavite is believed to have formed when a large asteroid broke in half and struck Earth near the country of Germany. This impact created two craters, the Ries and Steinheim craters. Hot glass from the asteroid was scattered hundreds of kilometers in all directions from these two craters.

This hot glass cooled too quickly for crystallization, so there is no fission in this particular stone. It has a Mohs hardness of 5-5.5 which makes it soft as it is a glass structure and not a crystalline structure.

Most of the Moldavite now being harvested is found exclusively in the Czech Republic near the Vltava River.

Why is moldavite so expensive?

Moldavite is a rare stone. Its origins alone make it incredibly desirable; it is literally otherworldly. Because the available amount of Moldavite is limited, the stone is considered extremely rare and valuable.

A real piece of Moldavite is extremely expensive, so most people end up with an imitation Moldavite. China became a mass producer of artificial moldavite made from green bottle glass. These moldavite imitations do not possess the transformative power that real moldavite does.

You can tell if you have a real piece of Moldavite by examining it under a telescope. Real moldavite contains gas bubbles and air currents that were trapped when the hot glass cooled so quickly upon impact with the earth.

This holy grail crystal will help you make much needed changes and transformations in your life.

Metaphysical Properties of Moldavite

Often referred to as the Stone of the Holy Grail, Moldavite is the stone of ultimate transformation. This means that not only does it help you make necessary changes in your own life, but it also has the power to transform your thoughts and ideas.

When you think of moldavite’s transformative properties, think of transformation acceleration. The high vibration and intensity of this stone make it a stone that creates rapid changes in the mind and soul.

Moldavite itself has been transformed and altered in the outer realms of the galaxy, making it the ultimate talisman of change. It brings extraterrestrial energy from the galaxy and is so energetic that it can often be felt physically when the stone is held.

When holding Moldavite, the user can feel warmth in the hand, followed by energy and warmth in the heart spreading throughout the body. You may even feel light headed if you are not prepared for the intensity of the stone.

History of use of Moldavite

As you can imagine, Moldavite has been popular since its discovery by ancient cultures. Originally valued for its ability to be sealed into weapons and tools, it was later used as a gift for the rich and kings.

According to legend, moldavite was formed from an emerald that fell from Lucifer’s crown during his battle with Archangel Michael. Ancient cultures believed that moldavite aided in fertility, brought good luck and increased prosperity.

Healing Properties of Moldavite

The Transformation Stone has known healing powers that allow it to be used to heal the body, mind, emotions and spirit.

Physical healing properties of Moldavite

Healers often use a Moldavite stone to help them diagnose their patients initially. When a patient is suffering from a difficult-to-diagnose disease, a moldavite stone can help a trained healer pinpoint the source of the problem.

Moldavite helps to locate blocked chakras and guide you to the source of existing physical illnesses. If you are suffering from a long-term illness, Moldavite can help you renew your vitality and help you thrive no matter what. It helps transfer energy to your body when you need it most, gathering light from the universe and channeling it into the deepest parts of your being.

Moldavite is also believed to support cellular health by renewing the functioning of your cells and increasing their energy and capacity to repair. You may find Moldavite helpful when you are not feeling well and also when you are feeling exhausted.

Mental and Emotional Healing Properties of Moldavite

Perhaps the most impressive healing benefit of moldavite is its ability to transform your mind. Moldavite is the key to broadening your horizons and helping you break free from the shackles of outdated ideas and limitations that are holding you back and no longer serving you.

Moldavite improves cognitive function and can help you stay sharp and focused. Its ability to eliminate negative energy helps you stay positive and helps you feel your mental stress easily. Moldavite brings to the surface buried feelings and past events that should be validated and released.

When better thoughts and emotions serve you, Moldavite will encourage them no matter what situation you are in. Best of all, Moldavite creates a connection between the heart and mind, allowing energy and love to flow in harmony between the two.

Moldavite helps bring clarity and meaning to your thoughts and helps you figure out what to do when you feel paralyzed by a difficult decision. This spiritual talisman can bring you enlightenment but also helps you to ground the light of the universe for healing.

As adults, we often find our minds and mouths full of cynicism and sarcasm. Years of difficulty can leave us jaded and indifferent. Moldavite counteracts cynicism, eliminates negativity and helps us see the world and our situations in a more childlike way.

When in doubt, Moldavite can provide reassurance. This stone can act as a spiritual guide when you are feeling disconnected. It also helps relieve financial stress and gives you peace of mind that your needs are being met by the universe.

Moldavite and your chakras

Moldavite is believed to connect most deeply with the heart chakra and help channel what is best for you in terms of what you desire and what you most deny. If your priorities for desire and resistance have changed in ways that don’t serve you, Moldavite can help put them in order.

Moldavite also connects to the Third Eye Chakra, inspiring you to stay present and practice mindfulness. As Moldavite frees you from the tyranny of your old ideas and concepts, you will feel free and your mental burden will be light.

Your throat chakra can also be activated by moldavite, giving you the ability to speak universal truths and understand your own reality a little better.

Finally, Moldavite can activate your crown chakra and act like a spiritual umbilical cord, tying you to the spiritual realm. This allows you to experience the transmission of light and energy.

Moldavite meaning

Moldavite is the Holy Grail stone that has the power to transform. The intensity of this healing stone is otherworldly and can be difficult for beginners to use alone. Although anyone can use moldavite, many will want to use it with another stone to balance its power.

What stones go well with Moldavite?

moldavite and amethyst

The combination of Moldavite and Amethyst is useful in meditation and Reiki healing, helping you contact spiritual guides and connect with the Universe. Amethyst is a crystal of spiritual awakening and is very similar to Moldavite in terms of connecting to your higher power.

Moldavite and Rose Quartz

Any stone in the Quartz family pairs well with Moldavite, but Rose Quartz is especially useful when you are powerfully searching for love or working on your own relationships. The fire and intensity of moldavite is enhanced by the love and compassion of rose quartz, tempering the heat of the stone and making the benefits of moldavite more accessible.

Use these stones when you need a boost in your love life or ailing relationships. Combining Moldavite with Rose Quartz can also help you build your own self-esteem and develop a deeper commitment to yourself.

moldavite and malachite

Some of us are just born healers, and our love and compassion for others extends to the earth itself. If you have a passion for earth healing, the combination of moldavite and malachite can help you channel light through your being into the earth .

Moldavite’s connection to the stars and its ability to trigger change, grounding malachite helps draw that power through your body into earth or planetary healing.

Moldavite and red jasper

Do you want to capture the power of space and earth? You can if you combine Moldavite and Red Jasper. Red jasper represents earth, fire and energy, while moldavite connects you to the stars and sky. Combining both during meditation can be a powerful experience.

moldavite and aquamarine

Aquamarine is the perfect stone for the beginner looking to use moldavite. Aquamarine helps take Moldavite’s sharp edge, helping cool its fire and balancing its power.

The combination of fire and water elements helps you activate your throat chakra and facilitates conversation and communication with others and the universe at large.

Moldavite Substitute

Moldavite is incredibly rare, so unless you’re willing to pay a small fortune to a collector, you’re unlikely to have access to one. Most Moldavites that you find for sale online are not genuine, whether or not the retailer realizes they are offering fakes.

Additionally, you may just not be ready to work with Moldavite. It is an incredibly strong stone that, as a beginner, should never be used lightly or without the supervision of a guide.

Luckily, there are many rocks that function similarly to moldavite and are more accessible than the famous green rock. Here are some of our favorite Moldavite alternatives that you can use for transformation and healing.

amethyst

The spiritual awakening stone helps open your third eye and crown chakra, similar to moldavite. You can get the same intuitive benefits that help you connect with your spirit guides and get in touch with the divine that you do with Moldavite.

Amethyst helps to awaken intuition and prophecy, clearing thoughts and feelings that prevent you from achieving a deeper spiritual connection with the universe.

fluorite

Fluorite helps you focus and is a wonderful stone for meditation. It activates the third eye and crown chakra like Moldavite, helping you access clear thoughts that can help you make decisions easily and cultivate change.

Much like moldavite’s transformative powers, you can use fluorite stones to clear anything standing in the way of your change, like negative energy and emotions.

labradorite

Labradorite is also known as a powerful all-healing stone. According to legend, labradorite fell from the Aurora Borealis, which would make it, like moldavite, extraterrestrial in origin. It also activates the crown and third eye chakras, helping you to see your highest purpose.

Like moldavite, it helps you discover your “reason why” or reason for living. You can discover your purpose in life and the reason you are here for this part of your earthly journey while using this stone.

Satin Spar

Also known as “selenite,” this stone helps activate, purify, and balance the third eye. Of all the stones, Satin Spar is most similar to Moldavite in creating space in your Third Eye Chakra to accept new beliefs and expand your consciousness.

Use of Moldavite

Moldavite does not come with a warning label so consider this the warning to heed. When working with Moldavite, make sure you have an experienced user with you if you are new, or use a different crystal to mitigate Moldavite’s effects.

You can use moldavite just like you use your other crystals. Here are some suggestions that work for beginners and intermediates.

Meditations and ceremonies with Moldavite

Using moldavite during mediation is as simple as having it close to you while you practice. You can simply keep a moldavite on your mat or, if using an altar, place it on the altar while holding healing mantras in your mind.

When using it during yoga, keep the stone on or near your mat. You may need to move the stone a little further away from your body when using it during Bikram yoga. Because of the intense heat generated by the stone, hot yoga sessions can become much more intense.

Cleaning and charging Moldavite

You need to clean and charge your Moldavite the more you use it. Because of the stone’s power, you may not use it as often as you think. As such, you may only need to clean it every few months.

Because moldavite is rare and expensive, you should exercise extreme caution when cleaning it. Avoid any kind of harsh cleaning method that could damage the stone or make it less strong. Here are # ways to safely clean your Moldavite.

1. Water purification

The best way to clean your Moldavite stone is to use water. You can use either sea water or water from your tap to clean your moldavite stone. If you’re using seawater, be sure to check the condition of your stone as you clean it.

Unlike other stones, Moldavite should not be completely submerged for long periods of time. Instead, expose it to running water or gently squeeze it under water in a shallow bowl several times while keeping a cleansing intention in your mind.

2. Smearing with sage

Just as you burn sage to cleanse areas of your home or to prepare for a spiritual ceremony, you can use sage to cleanse your moldavite. Light a new bundle of sage and swish your Moldavite through the smoke several times to purify it.

Quartz cleaning

One of the best ways to cleanse virtually any stone is to place it between quartz crystals. Quartz’s power to draw out negative energy helps cleanse your stone while recharging it.

When to Clean Your Moldavite Stone

Sometimes it can be difficult to know when to clean your stones. The best way to tell if it’s time for a cleanse depends on how you’re feeling. If you find yourself feeling stuck, paralyzed by indecision, or struggling to make a change you know you need to make, it can be a good idea to clean your moldavite stone.

What about physical dirt?

If your Moldavite gets physically dirty, you can gently wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth. You can also run it under water to remove surface dirt and grime and dry it gently with a cloth.

Transform with moldavite

The power to change is within your reach and using Moldavite can help you achieve your goals. Moldavite is strong and should be used with care and with accessory stones. If you cannot use a moldavite stone, there are numerous stones you can use that will give you the same benefits as moldavite.

Eliminate your fear of change and the inability to choose what is best for your spirit. Use your ability to transform yourself into a whole new person and live the life you deserve without reservations.
