The most immediate thing that strikes us is not the setting, not the people, but what they have to say. The reason I’m posting this now, at the beginning of the new year, is that I want to say to all of you, all of us actually, all of us 20-somethings who are disillusioned with the country, that this isn’t someone else’s country, it’s our own and it’s up to us to fix it as the days go by.

What I would also like to say is that you should not take on this enormous responsibility, if you wish to leave the country for greener pastures abroad, you are welcome to do so, it is your right. But if you are one of those who want to stay behind and fight, I just want to say that you are not alone. You will never be alone.

So remember, while I don’t blame you for leaving the country, I just want to remind you that India is an ongoing sore that we need to take care of, if only because it is it’s ours, it’s mine, it’s yours. it’s ours, this land, this land, it’s ours, and it’s up to us to keep it as open as possible and share it with other sons and daughters of the earth.

We need to be more tolerant, kind and gentle with people, we need to realize that the hamster wheel we have all been involved in since childhood only encourages cheating on the other person as an overpopulated country causes a constant struggle for resources. We must be clear that while India is your heritage and your shaping, it also belongs to the people around you, with their different beliefs, sexual orientations and aspirations. However, sometimes the clock stops because the battery may be losing its energy, and so are we. We stop doing some things for a while because we get tired and don’t have enough energy to put things in order. Once the clock regains its vitality, it will be active and function like us humans again. Life tells us that we will never stop learning, exploring and doing things. Either win back or quit, work or not.

What does a broken pencil mean to you?

Every day the students get out their pencils to start their school day. Cracking a pencil means so much – anger, frustration, fear. This snapshot could be from struggling with homework, learning difficulties, bullying and being separated from her parents. At this moment it’s just too much.

When students face these common challenges, it’s important that they have support that includes counselors and teachers who can spot the early signs of frustration and bottled negative feelings before things seem too big to handle.

If you’re a student and things are building up, consult a trusted adult. If you are an adult and find that something seems wrong with a student, do not wait for the student to ask for help. Reach out and offer a safe space and support to talk about what might be happening. Show that you care.
