Kristin and her husband are not in a good place. She’s been a stay-at-home mom since the birth of her children, and while she’s dedicated her life to being a great mom and caring wife, nothing she does is good enough for her husband. Neither of them is happy and the only way out of this mess is divorce.

Kristin is relieved to be moving into a new home with her two children, Finn, 10, and Aubrey, 6. The breakup was tough for her so Kristin just wants to get on with her life. She gets a job at a gossip website and her first task is to dig up information about movie star Noah Frazier. Lucky for Kristin, Noah is close friends with Eli and Heather, her friends, so getting to him will be easier than she imagined. What she hadn’t imagined was how damn gorgeous this man would be in person, he’s luscious! When Noah first sees Kristin he has very similar thoughts about her, is every woman hot in Florida?

“My legs start shaking as his eyes meet mine. All I can think about is how I wish I could climb on him like a tree and shake his coconuts.”

Noah is a cheeky flirt, and when Kristin relaxes after a few too many drinks, he enjoys the light-hearted banter between them. She is adorable and with the hours he feels so connected to her. However, he’s also very aware that she’s in the middle of a divorce and has two kids that come first. Luckily he is a patient man who always gets what he wants. Kristin’s ex really turned her head. He constantly bullied and criticized her, which made her feel worthless. Nothing she did was good enough for him and now that she is separated from him she realizes how unhappy she was.

“Negativity is so much easier to believe, but I’m done living in this hell.”

When Noah tells Kristin he’s interested in her, she can’t believe it. After years of being told that she is uninteresting and unattractive, it will take time to get used to another man’s genuine interest. However, Noah is a man of action, and while Kristin may find it hard to believe his words, she loves how he shows her in every way he can that he genuinely cares about her and her children. Life has been messy – going through a divorce, wrestling her kids through their feelings about their parents’ breakup, starting a new job, dealing with ex-husband’s ridiculous behavior and starting a new relationship with a new man is a lot too deal with . Being with Noah is the best thing that can happen to her. Her kids love him and everything feels so right, Kristin has never been happier.

“I’m telling you, you’re the first girl I’ve spoken to my mother about in over twenty years. I know you’re scared honey, but life without risk is not worth living.”

However, there is a downside to being with a celebrity, and while they’ve enjoyed being in a private bubble in Tampa, things are about to change. Noah may have a lot of free time at the moment but he has to be on location for his next film which means he has to get used to long periods of his time and then there’s the public side of his life, the scrutiny and interest of Fans and media put it on him. He is a very reserved man and only trusts those closest to him until he has a reason not to. Is Kristin really ready to face whatever being with Noah entails and will she give love one last chance?

One Last Time by Corinne Michaels

Chapter one

Kristin

“Then go!” I yell at my husband as he once again tells me how worthless I am. I had it. I’ve stayed by his side for years, but I won’t do that anymore. Nobody should feel so empty and unloved.

“I’m not leaving this house, Kristin. If you want this to be over then pack your shit and get out of my house.”

I’m staring at the man I’ve loved since I was twenty-two. The father of my children. The person I thought I would grow old next to. The man in front of me is a mirage of this man. Scott has changed so much in the past fourteen years that he is unrecognizable. Now he’s just someone I used to love.

The man I knew would never throw me away so easily. He would have done anything to make it work.

“It’s not just your house, Scott. I am your wife!”

He shakes his head with a grin. “I’m the one paying for it. How can you afford your designer lifestyle without a job?”

Designer lifestyle? I can’t remember the last time I bought something. Mainly because I’d rather not listen to how stupid I am.

“I’ll find a job and do what I have to do. That’s why I’m not moving out.”

He rubs the bridge of his nose. “So you work now, but not for the last ten years?”

“You wanted me to stay home with Aubrey and Finn! You told me to quit my job, you can’t throw it in my face again!” I slam my hand on the table.

It’s like groundhog day here. The same fight, over and over again, with nothing ever reconciling. I have a Masters in Communications and that’s the one thing neither of us are good at.

Scott demanded that I quit my job as a reporter when we found out I was pregnant with Finn. I was always traveling, breaking stories, and he felt I didn’t have enough time to be a mom.

At first it made sense. I always wanted to be the kind of mom who would bake cookies or send the kids to school with a kiss on the cheek and their lunch. My mother was like that and I have the best memories of it. I think she was partly alien because most days I’m lucky if my kids wear matching clothes and have enough money in their lunchtime accounts.

My life is not what I imagined. Instead of baking, I run around trying to keep the house clean so he doesn’t get angry. I spend an hour at the gym so Scott won’t tell me how to let myself go. Between trying to look like the perfect wife and mother and actually being one, I’m drowning.

And Scott holds my head under while I gasp.

Scott grabs the edge of the table and stares at me. “I’m always the bad guy here. I made you quit your job. I made you have children. I made you the miserable woman you are. I’m the one that made you cold and bitter, right? I did everything So damn it!”

Tears well up in my eyes as he slits open my heart. “I’m so expendable for you?”

Scott’s eyes fill with anger. “You’re the one who wants to go, Kristin. It’s you standing there, tall and mighty, telling me to go. God forbid I want a woman who really likes me. When was the last time you really wanted to have sex with me? When did you give me what I need, huh?”

Once again we move on to the next part of the argument. “It’s hard to want someone who makes you feel like shit.”

“And how do I do that, Kris? By telling you the truth about your problems?”

my problems It’s always my problems, even when we talk about his. It is I who cause his reactions. Scott is not responsible for everything that happens in our lives. It is always passed on to someone else. I’m so damn tired of being the cause of everything that’s wrong in his life, of feeling small.

“Sure, Scott. That’s it.”

There’s no point in arguing. I’ve tried so many times and nothing I say counts.

Our kids are with my parents and this should be a weekend for us to reconnect. My mother knew we were at the breaking point and I wanted to try again. I figured if we could spend some time together, just us, we’d find a way.

It seems I’ve been a fool once again.

“I’m so tired of fixing everything in this marriage,” says Scott, pacing the room. “You keep saying you want to make me happy, but then you do everything wrong. It’s exhausting repeating myself.”

Yes, it’s exhausting, all right.

I feel myself drifting to this place in my head to protect myself. There’s only so much I can take before I’m completely shattered. “Stop it,” I beg.

“When are you going to learn, Kristin? If you would try a little harder I wouldn’t be so disappointed.”

I’m not doing anything right Nothing. I don’t dress the way he thinks fit, I don’t raise the kids like his mother did, I don’t look like he did when he fell in love with me, and God knows he doesn’t like me in any way.

“I guess I’ll never learn,” I say to reassure him.

“I do not think so.” He crosses his arms over his chest and stares at me.

My husband was a good man once. He doted on me and told me I was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Everything about us just seemed to fit. Two years after our marriage. . . It has changed. I wasn’t perfect for him anymore. Instead, I was difficult and needy. It was a snowball that got bigger and bigger as it rolled. I thought I could make him happy, so I tried harder and failed more often.
