Does ACR have risky Woohoo?

Change Default Risky % – Allows you to change the default risky woohoo percentage in your neighborhood. Each time a Sim woohoos through the ACR Casual menu, there is a chance the woohoo results in pregnancy (unless you set this to zero).

Sim Blender

ACR (Autonomous Casual Romance) is my favorite mod for The Sims 2. It’s an easy way to add spice and drama to your gameplay while allowing your Sims to make more choices of their own. It’s one of my must have mods for this game.

Once you start playing with it, you will have a hard time going back to vanilla gameplay!

Some people are afraid of ACR. I used to be one of those people. If you don’t know how to configure the mod, it can be VERY powerful. Your sims will breed like rabbits and constantly woohoo.

But with a few simple tweaks, you can make this mod work for your specific playstyle. In this guide I will go through all the settings, what they mean and how to change them for a better experience.

What does ACR do?

This mod does so much that even after playing with it for a while, you might not even notice what’s going on in the background. Here is a non-exhaustive list of things I think are most important for gaming:

Allows Sims, including townspeople and NPCs, to kiss, flirt, woohoo, and even try for a baby autonomously

Allows teens to woohoo (but not get pregnant)

Allows Sims to make loot calls to the Sim they’re keen on

Automatically or manually select gender preference for Sims

Adds “risky” woohoo, so there’s a chance regular woohoo will lead to pregnancy

Adds a drop in fertility as Sims age. The older you are, the less fertile you are and the lower the chances of conceiving.

Allows Sims to romp on the sofa!

Adds birth control and the morning-after pill

Download ACR

The website that once hosted ACR (Simbology) is no longer online – like so many of our beloved Sims 2 websites. Luckily, the files have been archived so they’re still easy to download.

Click here to download ACR from Sim File Share. The official documentation of the creator can be found here.

Most of the information I cover in this blog post is included in the documentation (alongside my personal notes). It also goes into more calculations and how the mod works. I created this guide to provide a cleaner list of ACR settings that doesn’t require you to search through multiple Word documents to find an answer.

To install, unzip the files and place them in the Documents > EA Games > Sims 2 > Downloads folder. It’s okay to put them in a subfolder.

How to find ACR

Once you have ACR installed, open your game and load any inhabited lot in your neighborhood. You will not find the mod in your buy mode catalogue. Instead, in Live Mode, click on a selected Sim and choose:

Customize > Casual Romance > Spawn Adjuster.

A stack of phone books will appear next to your Sim. This is the ACR adjuster. Don’t worry, you can change the look to something more decorative – but we’ll get to that below.

NOTE: If you want all features to work, make sure to spawn a gambler on EVERY LOT you play. You only need to select your settings once for each neighborhood, but a customizer must be present on each residential lot if you want certain features — like booty calls — to work and teen/elders to be able to initiate ACR interactions. The basic settings work even if you forget to spawn the adjuster.

You must set up ACR for each and every neighborhood you play. Once you choose your settings in a neighborhood, they apply to ALL Sims and households in that neighborhood. You only have to do this once per hood.

Guide to ACR settings

Now let’s go through the settings one by one. This is mainly for reference so you can see what you want to change for your personal game. If you just want to know how I set up ACR, read the next section – Pleasant Sims ACR Settings.

To change the settings, just click on the adjuster and a menu will appear.

adjuster

In this menu you can change the appearance of the adjuster or delete the adjuster.

Adjuster > Change Model – Changes the look of the adjuster. I prefer to change it to an orchid and put it in my Sim’s bedroom so I always know where to find it. Other options include bonsai, philodendron, fig tree, ficus, rosebush, hydrangea and oleander.

– Changes the appearance of the adjuster. I prefer to change it to an orchid and put it in my Sim’s bedroom so I always know where to find it. Other options include bonsai, philodendron, fig tree, ficus, rosebush, hydrangea and oleander. Appraiser > Delete Appraiser – Deletes the appraiser from the batch. If you ever decide you don’t like ACR and want to remove it from your game, use this option to delete the adjuster first.

View my token statistics

This option displays the token stats for the currently selected Sim. Stats include age, preferred clothing, risky Woohoo odds, who the Sim is currently keen on (who they booty call at), gender preference and more.

Sim Settings

The Sim Settings menu allows you to change or view the settings for a specific Sim.

Sim Settings > Show Token Stats for > Sim Name – Displays token stats for the selected Sim.

– Displays token stats for the selected Sim. Sim Settings > View Token Stats For > Copy My Token To > Sim Name – Copies the ACR token from the currently selected sim to another sim.

NOTE: If you’re unable to perform ACR interactions with another Sim, it’s probably because they don’t have a token yet. Each Sim requires a token for ACR interactions to work. The mod automatically gives Sims tokens every 12 hours. But newly created Sims may not have one yet. You can use this option to give them one. It also copies all sim level settings. If you need to give a sim a token, copy it from a sim that doesn’t have any special settings.

– Copies the ACR token from the currently selected Sim to another Sim. Sim Settings > Autonomy – This menu leads to a sub-menu where you can select the autonomy settings for a specific Sim. These override global defaults (but not global overrides). The setting is dynamic – Allows you to change a Sim’s autonomy from dynamic to static. If a Sim’s autonomy is dynamic, their settings will be recalculated every day. If they are static, their settings stay the same. I recommend leaving this on dynamic so your sim can change over time. Woohoo is Allowed – Allows you to choose if this Sim is allowed to do Woohoo autonomously. Booty Calls are Allowed – Lets you choose if this Sim can make booty calls. Required Relationship – Allows you to set the required short and long term relationship score required for occasional Woohoo to be successful for this Sim. Off, Spouse Only, Very Low, Low, Medium, High – These settings are for general ACR autonomy for the specific Sim. If you don’t want that particular Sim to have ACR autonomy you can turn it off or only on their spouse adjust so he doesn’t cheat. Default is set to high and that’s where I keep it for my Sims. I like to let them do what they want.

– This menu leads to a submenu where you can select the autonomy settings for a specific Sim. These override global defaults (but not global overrides). Sim Settings > Jealousy – This menu leads to a sub-menu where you can select jealousy settings for a specific Sim. These override global defaults (but not global overrides). Attitude is Dynamic – Allows you to change a Sim’s attitude from dynamic to static. If a Sim’s jealousy is dynamic, their settings will be recalculated every day. If they are static, their settings stay the same. I recommend leaving this on dynamic so your sim can change over time. No Jealousy – Disable jealousy for this Sim. For example, if you want your Sims to be in a poly relationship, you can disable jealousy for the Sims involved so they don’t get jealous of the other partners. Just Married – The Sim is only jealous of their spouse. Engaged/Steady – The Sim only gets jealous of their permanent fiancé or spouse. In Love – The Sim will become jealous of any Sim they are in love with. (This is the global default for ACR and I prefer to leave it here for most Sims unless there is a special situation, like a poly relationship.) Crush – Normal Maxis Jealousy; The Sim will get jealous of any Sim they have a crush on or higher.

– This menu leads to a submenu where you can select Jealousy settings for a specific Sim. These override global defaults (but not global overrides). Sim Settings > The One Sim – This menu leads to a sub-menu where you can select One Sim settings for an individual Sim. The One Sim is the one your Sim is currently keen on as shown in the token stats menu. This is also the sim that your sim will choose to booty call. Attitude is Dynamic – Allows you to change a Sim’s attitude from dynamic to static. When set dynamically, The One Sim is recalculated every hour. When static, your One Sim stays the same. I recommend leaving this on dynamic so your Sim can change who they fancy over time. Pick a Neighbor – Allows you to manually choose who your Sim is into, from a list of Sims in the neighborhood. Set to None – Allows you to set your Sim’s One Sim to None (basically resets it so it can start over). Bet on Sim Name – If there is another matching Sim on the current lot, you may see their name in the menu and be able to select them directly.

– This menu leads to a sub-menu where you can adjust settings related to “The One Sim” for a single Sim. The One Sim is the one your Sim is currently keen on as shown in the token stats menu. This is also the sim that your sim will choose to booty call. Sim Settings > Preferred Clothing – This menu leads to a sub-menu where you can select preferred clothing settings for a specific Sim. In this case, clothing means what your Sim wears when cheering. Setting is Dynamic – Allows you to change a Sim’s preferred clothing setting from dynamic to static. If a Sim has a dynamic setting, their settings will be recalculated every day. If they are static, their settings stay the same. I recommend leaving this on dynamic so your sim can change over time. Casual – The Sim prefers casual or bathing attire. Underwear – The Sim prefers underwear or swimwear. Nekkid – The Sim will prefer to court naked.

– This menu leads to a sub-menu where you can select preferred clothing settings for a specific Sim. In this case, clothing means what your Sim wears when cheering. Sim Settings > Pregnancy – This menu leads to a sub-menu where you can select the pregnancy settings for a specific Sim. Pregnancy Chances – Leads to another submenu where you can select the pregnancy chance settings for a specific Sim. Setting is Dynamic – Allows you to change a Sim’s pregnancy settings from dynamic to static. If they are dynamic, their settings are recalculated every day. If they are static, their settings stay the same. I recommend leaving this on dynamic so your sim can change over time. Change Chances – Manually change the pregnancy chances for that specific Sim. This sets a constant percentage chance that a Sim will get pregnant through Try For Baby. Change Risky Quotas – Allows you to change the Woohoo risky percentage for that particular Sim. Global Risky Odds – Reset the Sim’s risky Woohoo percentage to the current Global Risky Odds you have in your neighborhood. Birth Control is Off – Allows you to put this Sim on Birth Control. While on birth control, a Sim cannot impregnate other Sims or become pregnant themselves—except through risky Woohoo. (If a Sim is afraid of a baby, I set them to Contraception in my game rules.) Sim Can Get Pregnant – Allows you to turn off a Sim’s ability to get pregnant in the first place. A Sim can still impregnate other Sims, but cannot conceive themselves. Unmarried TFB is not allowed – Allows you to enable the “Unmarried Trying for Baby” option for that specific Sim. Ideal Family Size – Allows you to set the ideal number of children for that particular Sim. If set, this number will be used in Try for Baby calculations. A weighted average of the mother and father settings (if any) is used to calculate the number of children the sim is attempting to have.

– This menu leads to a sub-menu where you can select pregnancy settings for a specific Sim. Sim Settings > Cheating – This menu leads to a sub-menu where you can select cheat settings for a specific Sim. Setting is Dynamic – Allows you to change a Sim’s cheat settings from dynamic to static. The cheat options aren’t dynamic, even though the menu says so. If you set them manually, you must change the setting to Static or they will change again. Set to Totally Faithful – Your Sim will NEVER cheat. Low Flirts are Allowed – Your Sim can do Low Flirts with other Sims including Wolf Whistle, Charm, Caress, Sweet Talk, Hold Hands and Romantic Hug, Low Kisses are Allowed – Your Sim can do Low Kisses with other Sims including Peck, Tender Kiss, Hand Kiss and First Kiss. High Flirts Allowed – Your Sim can have high flirts with other Sims including Hit On, Suggestion, Goose, Serenade, Squeeze, and Leap into Arms. Tall Kisses Allowed – Your Sim can perform Tall Kisses with other Sims including Arm Kiss, Romantic Kiss, Face Suck, and Dance Kiss. Smooching is allowed – Your Sim can make out with other Sims (behind their lover’s back). Woohoo is allowed – Your Sim can woohoo with other Sims (behind their lover’s back).

– This menu leads to a submenu where you can select cheat settings for a specific Sim.

Hood Width Settings

Hood-wide attitudes are attitudes that affect the entire neighborhood.

Hood Width Settings > Global Switches – This menu leads to a submenu where you can change neighborhood global switches. These settings affect the entire hood unless you override them at the sim level or through global overrides. ACR Autonomy Enabled – Allows you to disable ACR autonomy for your entire hood. Default is obviously enabled. Teen-Adult Interactions Enabled – Allows you to disable teen-adult interactions if you don’t want teens and adults to have a romance between them. Teen Woohoo Enabled – Allows you to disable Teen Woohoo. (Note: That’s just woohoo. ACR doesn’t add teenage pregnancies.) Cheating is Enabled – Allows you to disable cheating for all Sims. Auto Woohoo Enabled – Allows you to disable Autonomous Woohoo, meaning your Sims will no longer woohoo unless you instruct them to. Unmarried Woohoo is Enabled – You can disable this setting, but it won’t do anything. This feature was never actually implemented. TFB Dialogues are Disabled – Enabling this option will display a dialogue or two every time Sims go casual Woohoo and one of the Sims can get pregnant. The first shows the likelihood that they are trying to have a baby. If the first is successful, the second displays the random number that will be rolled in the actual attempt to conceive. Booty calls are enabled – Allows you to disable booty calls. With this option enabled, a Sim living alone will automatically call their One Sim for a romantic visit when their timer runs out. Autonomous TFB Enabled – Allows you to disable Sims attempting to have a baby autonomously. Unmarried TFB is disabled – This setting is disabled by default and I recommend you leave it that way. Almost every time a Sim goes on a date, they’re attempting a baby rather than just casually courting, which means you’ll end up with a lot of illegitimate babies in your neighborhood. Automatic gender preference is disabled – Allows you to enable automatic gender preference. I really love this setting and always turn it on. With this feature enabled, all Sims will have their gender preference randomized the first night after they reach adolescence. You will receive a pop-up informing you of your preference. Sofa Woohoo Test is Default – Allows you to toggle the Sofa Woohoo Test from default to relaxed. When the setting is set to Relaxed, Sims can court on the sofa even if they don’t have privacy or are interrupted.

– This menu leads to a submenu where you can change global neighborhood switches. These settings affect the entire hood unless you override them at the sim level or through global overrides. Hood Width Settings > Global Defaults – This menu leads to a submenu where you can select global defaults for the entire neighborhood. Change Default Risky % – Allows you to change the default Woohoo risky percentage in your neighborhood. Every time a Sim goes through the ACR casual menu woohoos there is a chance that the woohoo will result in pregnancy (unless you zero this). I like to set mine at 10% as I found 5% too low and 20% too high for me. Timer Multiplier – This is one of the most important settings in ACR. It determines how often your Sims will automatically court or try for a baby. 1x means Sims woohoon every 24 hours, 2x = 48 hours, 3x = 72 hours and 4x = 4 days (96 hours). I recommend setting this to 4x or your Sims will breed like crazy and you will end up having WAY too many babies too quickly. You can always adjust this based on how fast you want your population to grow. Required Relationship – Allows you to change the required relationship level for Casual Woohoo to succeed. You can change (or change all) in both short and long term depending on your claim. I usually leave this at the default values, but it’s there if you want to tinker around. Cinematics – Allows you to change whether the cinematics (cutscenes) play normally, never, or always. Normal only shows the Woohoo cutscene the first time. Always will always show and never means they will never play. If cinematics are turned off in the game options, this setting has no effect. Gender Preference Goals – Allows you to change the percentage of gay and bisexual Sims in your neighborhood when using the Randomizer or “Randomize me” options.

– This menu leads to a submenu where you can select global default settings for the entire neighborhood. Hood-Wide Settings > Global Overrides – This menu leads to a sub-menu where you can select global overrides for your neighborhood. These settings take precedence over a Sim’s token settings and always take precedence over all other settings. Pregnancy Odds – Allows you to set pregnancy override odds. Jealousy – Allows you to set Jealousy override settings. Dress – Allows you to set dress override settings.

– This menu leads to a submenu where you can select global overrides for your neighborhood. These settings take precedence over a Sim’s token settings and always take precedence over all other settings.

batch settings

This menu lets you select lot-level settings, meaning they affect all Sims on the current lot unless there’s an override. These settings take precedence over a Sim’s token settings.

Lot Settings > Lot Type – Allows you to set the lot type to Normal, Brothel, or Church. Normal – Sims’ Woohoo timers drop to the level set in the global defaults. Brothel – Causes Woohoo timers to expire much faster than normal for all Sims on the current lot, increasing the chances of Sims going Woohoo before the timer runs out and increasing autonomy. This is primarily for a brothel business lot, but you can use it for any lot you like. Church – Do nothing. This feature was never actually implemented.

– Allows you to set the lot type to Normal, Brothel, or Church. Lot Settings > Remove Jealousy – Allows you to set a Jealousy Removal for Sims on the current lot.

– Allows you to set a Jealousy override for Sims on the current lot. Lot Settings > Bed Distribution – Allows you to enable Inge’s inaccessible beds. This is a separate mod that you can download if you want to use it with ACR. It allows your Sims to climb into a bed when one side is against the wall. If you use this mod you can enable it here to make it work with ACR woohoo.

gender sign

From this menu you can select neighborhood gender preferences, view gender preferences for Sims on the lot, view your hood census, and run the randomizer.

Gender Pref > Hood – This menu leads to a sub-menu where you can select the gender preference for the neighborhood. Change Target Gay and Bi % – Sets the percentage of gay and bi Sims in your neighborhood when using the Randomizer or “Randomize me” interaction. Run Randomizer – Allows you to set/change gender preferences for all or some of the Sims in the neighborhood. After running it, you’ll be asked if you want to randomize Sims with no preference, the entire Hood, or just Townies/NPCs. (I always choose “no preference” so that all Sims in my neighborhood are preferred – even my undecided game items.)

NOTE: The random number generator will never change a Sim’s existing preference if they have a crush on another Sim of the same gender or higher – no matter which option you choose. Next you will be asked if you want to set the Sim’s settings to high or low. Using a low setting will set this to +2 or -2, making it very easy for the Sim to change their gender preference through in-game interactions. If you use a high setting, it will be set to +500 or -250. This makes it more difficult to change a Sim’s gender preference. (I always vote up because I want my Sims to choose a side and stay there, but that depends on how you want to play.) The randomizer then tries to randomize the Sims while the gay/bi percentage stays as close as possible to your chosen values, usually within a 5% margin.

– This menu leads to a submenu where you can select neighborhood gender preference settings.

View Census – Displays a census report for the neighborhood. You can run this at any time to see the current status of gay and straight Sims in your neighborhood.

Gender Preference > Sim Name – Select a Sim’s name from the current batch, which leads to a submenu where you can view and change their individual gender preference settings. Show Preferences – Shows the gender preference of the selected Sim. A positive number means the Sim prefers that gender. A negative number means they don’t prefer that gender. Randomize me! – Randomizes the gender preference of the selected Sim. This will honor the percentages you’ve set for your neighborhood (or use the default of 10% gay if you haven’t made any changes). Make Gay – Makes the Sim gay with a high preference for the same gender. Make Straight – Makes the Sim straight with a high preference for the opposite sex. Make Bi – Makes the Sim bisexual with a high preference for both genders. Make Gay (Low) – Makes the Sim gay with a low preference for the same gender. Make Straight (Low) – Makes the Sim straight with a low preference for the opposite sex. Make Bi (Low) – Makes the Sim bisexual with a low preference for both sexes.

– Select a Sim’s name from the current lot, which will bring up a sub-menu where you can view and change their individual gender preferences.

Miscellaneous

In the Miscellaneous menu you can search for pregnancy, take the morning-after pill and reset ACR to default values.

Miscellaneous > Pregnancy Scanner (Normal) – If a Sim is pregnant on the lot, this option will display the pregnancy information including the father, how long the Sim has been pregnant, and how many babies are expected. It does NOT show the gender of the baby.

– If a Sim is pregnant on the lot, this option will show the pregnancy information including the father, how long the Sim has been pregnant and how many babies are expected. It does NOT show the gender of the baby. Miscellaneous > Pregnancy Scanner (No Father Info) – If a Sim is pregnant on the lot, this option will show the pregnancy information EXCEPT it will NOT show who the father is. Use it when your Sim has been naughty and you want to be surprised.

– If a Sim is pregnant on the lot, this option will show the pregnancy information EXCEPT it will NOT show who the father is. Use it when your Sim has been naughty and you want to be surprised. Miscellaneous > Take the morning-after pill – This option only appears for the first 24 hours after a Sim becomes pregnant. When you “take the pill” it terminates the pregnancy.

– This option will only appear in the first 24 hours after a Sim’s pregnancy. When you “take the pill” it terminates the pregnancy. Miscellaneous > Reset – Allows you to reset ACR to default settings.

Pleasant Sims ACR settings

Here is an overview of my ACR settings. These are the settings I use for each neighborhood in my personal rotating gameplay. If you already know the basics, don’t care about the rest and just want a sane setup, you’ve come to the right place.

Spawn the adjuster, click on it and choose:

Hood width settings > Global defaults > Change default risky % > 10%

Hood Width Settings > Global Defaults > Timer Multiplier > 4x

What was the last Sims 2 expansion pack?

The Sims 2: Apartment Life is the final expansion pack for The Sims 2.

Sim Blender

2004 video game

2004 video game

The Sims 2 is a 2004 strategic life simulation video game developed at Maxis Studio in Redwood City, California and published by Electronic Arts. It is the sequel to the first game in the franchise, The Sims.[1] The game allows the player to create their own sim, neighborhoods, houses and families. Players manage their Sims so they can experience rewards and build relationships much like they do in real life.

The Sims 2, like its predecessor, has no defined end goal as the gameplay is open-ended. Sims have life goals, desires, and fears, the fulfillment of which can lead to either good or bad outcomes. All Sims age and can live up to 90 Sim Days or more. The Sims 2 builds on its predecessor by allowing Sims to progress through six life stages and includes a 3D graphics engine that allows the player to get 360º views of the game as opposed to the fixed 2D isometric view from The Sims. Genetics is also a new game mechanic, as early children in The Sims didn’t always look like their parents. Though the gameplay isn’t linear, storylines and scripted events exist in the game’s pre-built neighborhoods.

The Sims 2 was released on September 14, 2004 for Microsoft Windows. A port to macOS was released on June 17, 2005. Eight expansion packs and nine “stuff packs” were subsequently released. [c] Several console versions have also been released. The Sims 2 is offered on mobile platforms, with manufacturers such as Nokia offering The Sims 2 from the Ovi Store. A sequel, The Sims 3, was released in June 2009.[2][3]

The Sims 2 was critically acclaimed, earning a score of 90% from aggregators Metacritic and GameRankings.[4][5] The game is considered one of the greatest video games of all time. It was also a commercial success, selling a million copies in its first ten days, a record for the time.[6] In April 2008, The Sims 2 website announced that 100 million copies of The Sims series had been sold.[7] As of March 2012, the game has sold 13 million copies across all platforms, including over six million PC copies, making it one of the best-selling PC games of all time.[8]

Gameplay[edit]

From the neighborhood view, the player selects a lot to play on, like in The Sims.[9] There are both residential and community lots, but Sims can only live on residential lots. Sims can travel to community lots to buy things like clothes and magazines, and interact with NPCs and townspeople.

The player can choose to play a premade inhabited lot, move a household to an unoccupied premade lot, or construct a building on an empty lot. New to The Sims are endowments.

The player switches between “Live” mode (default) to control Sims, “Buy” mode to add, move or delete furniture, or “Build” mode to rebuild the house and make structural changes. Buy and build mode cannot be accessed on a community lot, but the lots can be built on in the neighborhood view. It is also possible to import neighborhood terrain from SimCity 4.[10]

The game contains some time-bound social challenges that are rewarded for success. Sims can throw parties to earn aspiration points, or invite the principal to dinner to enroll their children in a private school.[9] Some expansion packs have new mini-games, like running a Greek house in college or dating in nightlife. In Nightlife, every date is a challenge to keep both Sims as happy as possible while earning aspiration points. Various other expansion packs introduce supernatural characters that Sims can be transformed into, such as Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves, PlantSims, and Witches.

Sims[edit]

The main part of the game is to guide a Sim from the beginning of life to death. A Sim is born when a female Sim and a male Sim try to have a baby multiple times. The mother spends 3 sim days (each day is 24 minutes, although the time can be shortened) pregnant before giving birth to a baby.[9] During pregnancy, the abdomen does not expand gradually. Instead, it “pops” to a larger size every day. Players can name the new Sim at birth. The baby’s appearance and personality are based on its parents’ genetics (although the baby’s appearance is hidden until it becomes a toddler). Babies can also be adopted by calling the adoption service by phone, even by single parents, senior Sims, or same-sex couples. The baby turns into a toddler in 3 days and in 4 more days the toddler turns into a child. After 8 days, the child grows into a teenager and lives 15 days before turning into an adult. After 29 days, the Sim becomes an Elder. An elder will eventually die; The length of this last phase depends on the aspiration bar when you become an elder.

Babies, toddlers, children, teens and adults can be promoted to their next life stage at any time during the 24 sim hours before automatically becoming adults. For babies, this requires the use of the birthday cake. Toddlers, kids, teens, and adults can use the Grow Up self-interaction. With the college expansion pack installed, teenagers have the opportunity to go to college, where they are young adults for about 24 days. Aging can be disabled via cheats.

Players must build talent badges, skills, and relationships with other people in order to be successful in their careers.[11] A player must also ensure a Sim’s well-being by granting wishes (including lifetime wishes, fear avoidance, and motive fulfillment).

Pregnancy, toddlers, teenagers and seniors are new stages of life. Young adult is a unique age added with the University expansion. Teenage Sims become young adults as soon as they transfer to a university and become adults as soon as they leave campus, regardless of the reason.

In The Sims 2, a family is created by clicking the Families button in the lower-left corner of the Neighborhood View, and then clicking the large Create New Family button. Clicking on the Create a Sim button will expand a tab containing the Create a Sim and Raise a Child icons. Make Child is grayed out unless the family contains an adult male and adult female. Clicking the create a sim icon will generate a random adult sim which can be male or female and is editable by the player.

Unlike The Sims, any age can be created except Baby or Young Adult (which must be done in Create a Student University). Instead of having to choose from already made faces with hair, it is now possible to change the face structure (e.g. widen the nose, make the lips thinner, lengthen the chin, etc.) and choose any hairstyle that fits to. Different eye colors and an additional skin tone are also available for the Sims. When Sims are older than a child, their aspirations and on/off shifts (Nightlife or later) can be set. There are ten personality traits, namely sloppy, orderly, shy, outgoing, lazy, active, serious, playful, grumpy and nice, but only 25 personality points that can be assigned to these traits.[12] However, in The Sims 2, all personality points must be awarded. In addition, there are twelve preset personalities, one for each zodiac sign. A zodiac sign will be set to match the personality the player has chosen for the Sim. A Sim also has one of six aspirations, which are life goals that greatly affect their desires and fears, namely: Growing Up, Romance, Family, Knowledge, Popularity, and Wealth.

The Sims 2 also includes The Sims 2 Body Shop which allows users to create custom genetics, makeup, clothing and Sims using third party tools such as Microsoft Paint, Paint.NET, Adobe Photoshop. GIMP and SimPE.

Social Interactions[edit]

Several new social interactions are introduced in The Sims 2. These new social interactions can create memories and be associated with specific age groups. Social interactions can appear in the Desires and Fears window and depend on the Sim’s personality and ambitions. Sims with certain personalities may not want to complete certain social interactions.

Influencing[13] Influencing social interactions will be introduced in the University expansion pack. A Sim can influence another Sim to complete a social interaction or a task. Sims gain Influence Points by completing Wishes and may lose Influence Points by completing Fears. The size of the influence bar depends on the number of friends the Sim has. It can also get bigger with business benefits from the Open for Business extension pack. Influence also came into the Nightlife expansion but didn’t add anything. Chemistry[14] The Nightlife Expansion Pack introduced a new feature, Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs. Young people and older people can choose their switching on and off options. These and other factors such as aspiration and personality determine the chemistry one Sim has with another in the form of lightning. Sims can have up to 3 lightning bolts with another Sim. The higher the chemistry a Sim has with another Sim, the greater the chance that social interactions will be accepted. The Bon Voyage expansion pack introduces new junctions and junctions. Rage[14] Rage is introduced in the Nightlife Expansion Pack and occurs when one Sim gets angry at another. During this time, it is more difficult to form relationships with the angry Sim. Also, the angry Sim can start a fight or destroy the property of the Sim they are angry with. Anger can be caused by another Sim breaking into the Sim’s home, being fined after calling emergency services when it wasn’t an emergency, fighting, cheating (the cheater or the cheated Sim, often both), and more more. Reputation [15] Reputation found in the previous Sims game The Urbz: Sims in the City is reintroduced in the Apartment Life Expansion Pack. A Sim gains Renown by interacting with other Sims in community lots. Sims with higher reputation are more likely to receive perks like free items and job offers.

Career [edit]

There are careers that come with the game that require skills and a certain number of friends to advance.[16] Success in these careers unlocks career rewards and higher salaries plus bonuses. Sims also get random cards. Correct answers to these random cards create rewards for Sims, while incorrect answers can result in a Sim losing their job. Nightlife and Apartment Life allow Sims to earn promotions through social interactions with other Sims.[17] A specific career option is “Jazzercise Instructor”. [citation required]

Neighborhoods[ edit ]

The Sims 2 comes with three pre-made worlds known as Neighborhoods for the player to explore, all with a specific theme and storylines. These worlds are Pleasantview, a sequel to The Sims’ playable neighborhood that includes many of the same families as the Goths and the Pleasants – Strangetown, a small desert town themed around the supernatural, with aliens, mad scientists and haunted cemeteries. The final neighborhood, Veronaville, is a European-themed city based on the works of William Shakespeare, with the central plot being a loose, modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet. Aside from these pre-made neighborhoods, players can create and populate their own cities using built-in presets or create their own using SimCity 4 as SimCity 4 maps are compatible with The Sims 2.

Expansion packs also add several new quarters, such as B. University towns, a shopping district, a downtown area and several holiday destinations. Seasons adds a full-fledged neighborhood, a rural small town called Riverblossom Hills, Free Time adds a hobby town called Desiderata Valley, while Apartment Life adds Belladonna Cove, a larger, more metropolitan area of apartments and high-rises.

Comparison to The Sims[edit]

Graphically, The Sims 2 is more detailed than The Sims and lets players see the world in full 3D. This is a change from previous sim games like SimCity 2000 which used dimetric projection and fixed resolutions since the camera was in The Sims. In The Sims, Sims are 3D meshes, but The Sims 2 introduces much more detail in mesh quality, texture quality, and animation ability. A Sim’s facial features are customizable and unique, and Sims can smile, frown, and blink. The player can customize a Sim’s features in the Create a Sim tool in the game. for example, noses can be made very large or very small. The texturing is achieved through the use of raster images, although it appears more lifelike.

The Sims 2 characters progress through seven life stages – babies, toddlers, children, teens, young adults (with college only), adults and the elderly – with eventual death in old age, while babies in The Sims first become children before they grow old In addition. The aspiration system (described above) is also new to The Sims 2. Sims can become pregnant and father babies who take on genetic traits of their parents, such as eye color, hair color, facial structure, and personality traits, unlike in The Sims, in which the baby has a random appearance and would take on a random personality. Genetics play an important role in the game, and thus dominant and recessive genes play a bigger role than in the original game. A player can also aspire to have a Sim abducted by aliens. Males then have the chance to get pregnant and father a half-strange child after three sim days.

Some of the other additions to gameplay are career rewards, a weekly cycle, the cleaning skill (which was a hidden skill in The Sims), a variety of meals (depending on the time of day), workout clothes, diet-influenced body shape and exercises, and houses built on foundations. Cutscenes were another new feature in The Sims 2. There are first kiss, woohoo, child birth, alien abduction, college and graduation cutscenes in The Sims 2 University.

Development [edit]

Preliminary development of The Sims 2 began in late 2000 after the release of The Sims.[18][19][20] EA Games announced on May 5, 2003 that Maxis Studio had started development on The Sims 2. A teaser trailer was provided on The Sims: Makin’ Magic CD, released in October 2003, which was later uploaded to sites across the internet. The game was first shown at E3 in Los Angeles, California on May 13, 2004.[21] Will Wright admitted that while most of The Sims 2’s content is original ideas, the inspiration for his own expansions and components came from the successes of the first game. Community interest in the previous expansion packs The Sims: Unleashed and The Sims: Hot Date prompted the creation of The Sims 2: Pets and The Sims 2: Nightlife expansions, respectively.[22]

After the completion of development, the designers of Maxis considered The Sims 2 to be very capricious during the creation. Bugs would appear and Sims would be “tweaked” or had anomalies that weren’t present in a previous run.[23]

On December 15, 2012, Electronic Arts announced that the official website would close on January 14, 2013. It is now no longer possible to download content from the official website, create an exchange or participate in the official forum communities.[24 ]

On July 16, 2014, Electronic Arts announced the end of support for The Sims 2. In response, The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection was simultaneously released as a limited-time offer. The game became available for free download exclusively on Origin after EA announced that they would no longer be supporting the game.[25] This offer expired on July 31, 2014 at 10:00 AM PDT.[26][27][28]

On August 7, 2014, Aspyr Media released The Sims 2: Super Collection as a digital download exclusive to the Mac App Store; The game has been updated for OS X Mavericks, 4K and Retina. This compilation contains only the first six expansion packs and the first three accessory packs. Aspyr stated that they were unable to include the remaining packs for the game due to licensing conflicts with EA. As with the Ultimate Collection, no new updates have surfaced as to when the remaining packs will be released separately or as a single add-on to the Super Collection.

music [edit]

Mark Mothersbaugh composed the Build Mode, Buy Mode, Create a Sim, Neighborhood Music and Main Theme of The Sims 2. The game also includes original “Simlish” language songs on the radio provided by Jerry Martin, The Humble Brothers, Kirk Casey and others.[29]

In later expansions and stuff packs, popular musicians made “Simlish” versions of their songs available for the in-game radio stations, including Depeche Mode, Kajagoogoo, Lily Allen, Datarock, Plain White T’s, and Katy Perry, among others. 29][30][31] “Pressure” by Paramore, “Don’t Cha” by The Pussycat Dolls, “Good Day” by Tally Hall and “Like Light to the Flies” by Trivium were among the songs recorded by their original artists in Simlish were re-recorded for the console version of The Sims 2.[32]

Reception and Legacy[ edit ]

PC/macOS versions [ edit ]

The Sims 2 received critical acclaim. On Metacritic, which assigns reviews from mainstream critics a normalized rating out of 100, The Sims 2 has an average score of 90 based on 61 reviews, indicating “universal acclaim”. The game also received the Editor’s Choice award from IGN and GameSpy after the final review of the finished product. The Sims 2 had a successful E3.[41][42] From 71 online reviews, the average score was 90 out of 100. Seven of these sources gave the game a score of 100 out of 100.[43] X-Play gave the game a 4/5. Computer Gaming World awarded the game “Strategy Game of the Year (General)” in 2004, beating RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, The Political Machine and Silent Storm.[44] However, critics noted some serious bugs in the game. [citation required]

The Sims creator, Will Wright, was recognized as a visionary and game developer by being nominated at the Billboard Digital Entertainment Awards.[45] The game was also nominated for two international awards in 2005.[46][47] The Mac version of the game won an Apple Design Award in 2006.[48] Computer Games Magazine named The Sims 2 the sixth best selling computer game of 2004. The editors wrote that it is “more of a game and less of a dollhouse [than The Sims], but it remains a celebration of the beauty of the everyday.” It also won Best Voice Acting magazine’s award.

The Sims 2 was an instant commercial success, selling a then-record one million copies in its first ten days.[6] The game sold 4.5 million units within its first year and 7 million by October 2006. [50] [51] It was awarded a Double Platinum Sales Award by the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA),[52 ] indicating sales of at least 600,000 copies in the UK.[53] It received a “Double Platinum” award from the Asociación Española de Distribuidores y Editores de Software de Enttretimiento (aDeSe) for more than 160,000 sales in Spain in the first 12 months.[54]

As of March 2012, The Sims 2 had sold 13 million units across all platforms, with at least six million units on PC, making it one of the best-selling PC games of all time.[8] The 2016 World Video Game Hall of Fame inductees announced that The Sims series has sold 200 million copies, becoming one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time.[55]

Even after later Sims installments, The Sims 2 still has an active fan base.[56] To date, the game has a large modding community, with new user-created content constantly being uploaded to fansites such as Mod The Sims and sim blogs hosted on Tumblr (nicknamed “Simblrs”).[57]

Other versions[edit]

controversy[edit]

The malleable content of The Sims 2 and unlimited customization has led to controversy surrounding paysites.[58] Custom Content is distributed through independent websites, some of which charge fees for downloading materials. Charging for custom content is considered a violation of the game’s EULA,[59] which prohibits commercial use of Electronic Arts’ intellectual property.

On July 22, 2005, Florida Attorney Jack Thompson alleged that Electronic Arts and The Sims 2 promoted nudity through the use of a mod or cheat code. It has been claimed that once the “blurring” (the pixelation that occurs when a Sim goes to the bathroom or is nude in-game) was removed, pubic hair, labia, and other genital details were visible.[60] Jeff Brown, CEO of Electronic Arts, said in an interview with GameSpot:[61]

That is nonsense. We checked 100 percent of the content. There is no content unsuitable for a teenage audience. Players never see a naked sim. If someone with extreme experience and time removed the pixels, they would see that the sims have no genitals. They appear like Ken and Barbie.

Prior to Thompson’s statement, there was an enterable code that allowed resizing (including to zero) pixelation, which was accessible from the console menu. Shortly after the directive, subsequent patches and expansion packs removed the “intProp censorGridSize” code; This code was leftover from the original game’s beta testing phase and was not intended for a public audience.

Editions, compilations and add-ons [ edit ]

Many Sims games have been ported to macOS by Aspyr. The Sims 2 has also been ported to a number of video game consoles including the PlayStation 2, the Xbox, Nintendo DS and the Nintendo GameCube.

macOS version[edit]

macOS ports of the base game, the first six expansion packs, and the first three stuff packs were published by Aspyr Media. The base game port was announced on October 19, 2004.[62] The Sims 2 had reached beta status on March 1, 2005 and was released on June 17 of the same year.[63] At release it was compatible with Mac OS X Panther and later on PowerPC Macintosh systems. The Sims 2 Body Shop was also available for macOS. Aspyr Media released The Sims 2 with all ported expansions and stuff packs as The Sims™2: Super Collection for Intel Macs in 2014. The game is available on the Mac App Store for OS X 10.9 Mavericks and later.

Console versions[edit]

The console versions of The Sims 2 featured local split-screen multiplayer, a story mode, and an option to directly control characters, as opposed to queuing options found in traditional Sims gameplay. In this video game, you cannot have children or age, but you are only adults (excluding elders), although you can marry. You must collect aspiration points to unlock rewards by completing your “goals”, which are also needed to complete the story mode. Story mode is a sequence of multiple levels along with developed storylines that each character asks you to fulfill wishes related to their story. There’s also a sandbox mode where you can live in a preset family or create your own.

Handheld versions [ edit ]

The three handheld versions of the game are completely different from each other, in contrast to the home console versions of the game, which are virtually identical. All three handheld versions follow a rather linear plot.

Game Boy Advance version [ edit ]

The Game Boy Advance version of The Sims 2 is set in Strangetown and has a similar GUI to its predecessors (The Sims Bustin’ Out and The Urbz). Players are guided through a goal-oriented game based on the concept of reality TV, where sub-areas of the game are divided into “episodes”. Characters from the previous handheld Sims games also made an appearance.

Nintendo DS version [ edit ]

The Nintendo DS version of The Sims 2 (commonly referred to as The Sims 2 Hotel) begins with the player’s car breaking down in Strangetown. Upon arrival, an anonymous donor will present the player with the deed for a hotel that can be operated and customized at the player’s discretion. The player’s task is to bring life back to Strangetown by encouraging people to come to the hotel, which players can do by improving it and making the guests happy. There are several ways a player can make Strangetown a nicer place, but it’s up to the player to find them. Unlike most games in the Sim series, this takes place in real time.

PlayStation Portable version [ edit ]

The PlayStation Portable version of the game is played in third person, similar to the Nintendo DS version. The game contains elements of RPGs and has rather a solid storyline that the player has to navigate through in order to unlock most of the things available in the other versions. The option to build your own house is replaced with a pre-built house where you can customize the furniture and decor. Conversations and orders are carried out via a mini-game function. The player’s character does not age, nor can he marry or have children, but he can have a significant other and “WooHoo”. Relationships are primarily used for solving objectives, although a close friend can move in with the player after progressing in the game. When the player completes an objective, their health bar, represented as Plumbob, fills up slightly and when the player is not actively completing their objectives, the health bar quickly depletes until the player is hospitalized or abducted by aliens. The player can also earn “Sanity Points” by completing objectives that allow them to unlock special perks. Another unique feature of this and the Nintendo DS version are “secrets” that the player can find scattered throughout Strangetown or through character contacts.

The game begins with the player’s character driving his car through the Strangetown desert, presumably the “Road to Nowhere”, when suddenly a flying green diamond (aka Plumbob, the Sims games marker and logo ) flies past the player, causing them to lose control of their car and damage it. Fortunately, the player finds a gas station. The player brings his car to the garage. At this point, the player takes control. The player is introduced to a vehicle mechanic named Oscar who, after a short tutorial teaching the player how to talk to NPC Sims, tells the player that his car will only take a short while to be repaired.

The player is then free to roam around the gas station and after being introduced to a few more NPCs, including Bella Goth, who claims to have been abducted by aliens, complete quests and learn the game’s basic objective, which is Secret Hunt . for the seller. The player then exits the store to find that the garage at the back has completely disappeared along with Oscar and her car, leaving only the foundation of the garage.

Expansion-only compilations [ edit ]

Compilations of expansion packs and stuff packs without the core game have also been released.

Downloadable content [ edit ]

Pre-order content [ edit ]

Most of expansion packs and stuff packs were released with pre-order items. This game content was redeemable at the official site using a code supplied by the retailer from which the player purchased, each retailer was often associated with an exclusive download. A total of 60 pre-order items were released.

The Sims 2 Store [ edit ]

The Sims 2 Store was an online store where players of The Sims 2 for PC could purchase and download content for their game online for additional fees. It offered objects, clothing, skins, and hairstyles that are both exclusive to the store and also come from earlier expansion and stuff packs.

It also had featured seven exclusive item collections that could only be found in the store. The store used a point system that players can purchase. It was opened from July 2008 to March 31, 2011, as a beta version limited to the United States and Canada. To download, players must install The Sims 2 Store Edition and the EA Download Manager. The exclusive collections were “Cubic”, “Art Deco”, “Spooky”, “Castle”, “Asian Fusion”, “Art Nouveaulicious” and “Oh Baby”, including a total of 471 items.

Since the closure of The Sims 2 Store on March 31, 2011, The Sims 2: Store Edition and the savegame cannot be used with The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection.

SimPE is an open-source utility for The Sims 2 that allows editing of Sims’ characteristics, relationships and careers. It also allows the creation of objects. As the tool is intended for use by experienced modders, the SimPE interface is not considered intuitive[73] and users risk corrupting the game files.[74] TS2 Enhancer, developed by Rick Halle, is a commercial utility for editing characters and neighborhoods, but has since fallen into disuse.[75]

Notes [edit]

^ DS, Mobile, GBA) Amaze Entertainment co-developed the handheld game console versions ( PSP ^ Aspyr published the macOS version ^ Some expansion packs and stuff packs were not released for Mac.
