The excitement builds. You bought your wine, your beer, your snacks. Most importantly, you booked your tickets early and saved some moola, and now the evening is here and you head to Uncorked Inspiration for your very first paint and swallow class! Yes, it IS so exciting. Yes, it will be fun. And yes, there are a few things we love about letting people know when they’re coming down. After all, we want this to be a fun, entertaining, memorable, safe and comfortable event for you. So here’s a quick rundown of what to expect and some general paint and drinking etiquette.

BYOB – Some basic etiquette and some legal stuff

One of the great things about Draw and Drink with Uncorked Inspiration is that it’s a BYOB event. We know you know this, but if you don’t, BYOB simply means Bring Your Own Bottle. Depending on your age, it’s entirely up to you what that bottle contains.

For our BYOB events, most of our friends bring wine, beer, adult fizzy sodas, etc. However, Kansas law allows you to use wine, beer, and spirits/liquor as BYOB. Once you’re at Uncorked you can even mix your own drinks with whatever you bring, but you have to be the one bringing it. We do not currently have a liquor license, so none of our employees are permitted to offer alcoholic beverages or serve alcoholic beverages. We can uncork your wine for you, open your beer cap for you and even open your spirits bottles, but under no circumstances can we serve it to you. That even means we can’t pour it into your glass. We assume you can handle it anyway.

Not only does the law require you to be 21 to drink alcohol, but you must carry your liquor with you at all times. So if you bring a bottle of wine or a six-pack of beer, basically keep it near your canvas on the table or in a cooler under the table at your feet. Some other legal stuff is that technically you shouldn’t walk with an open container of any type of alcohol. However, there are a few ways to solve this. Just leave it with us first and we will “dispose of” it professionally. And by dispose of it, we mean we’ll most likely drink it. Remember that Andrea loves Moscato, so feel free to leave Cupcake or Roscatto with her. I’m into reds and good beer, and occasionally pinot noir or a good, solid white wine. When I think about it, I’m really not that picky when it comes to good alcohol.

That being said…if you have a sealable bag, you can take the recorked wine home with you. A beer mug that can be sealed (usually with electrical tape). Unsealed leftover beers in six-packs can of course be taken home. And while we don’t recommend it, you can re-cork your wine and put it in your trunk so you can’t access it while driving. This is important though… if you have a hatchback, mini-van, station wagon, or other vehicle without a trunk, you really shouldn’t be traveling with an open bottle, even if it’s been re-corked. Open containers are no joke and we don’t want you to lose your driver’s license because you wouldn’t want to ride Green Apple bikes to our events.

Another very general thing is that you are absolutely welcome to offer Neal or Andrea a glass of your slut. Most likely we’ll turn it down simply because we think you paid your hard-earned money for it, so you should be able to drink it. But every once in a while we might accept, but we’ll probably have to toast!

One last thing to drink at our events. We love it when you sip a few glasses of wine. Personally I think it helps loosen up the creative flow and I even joke that your painting will look better if you have another glass of wine! But the reality is that drinking too much can be really dangerous. You know yourself better than anyone, so just know when you’ve reached your limit and please, under no circumstances get behind the wheel of your car when you’ve been drinking. We would be happy to call an Uber or a taxi for you. Hell, I’ll even drive you home myself when it comes down to it. We love all of our friends who come to paint with us and we want to make sure you can come back if you want.

One thing to note is that we may or may not have glasses or mugs, so it’s always a good idea to bring your own.

Should we bring snacks?

Absolutely! We love it if you bring snacks too! Two hours without a tasty snack can be a long time, so feel free to bring your charcuterie, meat, cheese, crackers, cakes, biscuits or whatever your stomach likes. If you bring snacks, feel free to share them with whoever you like or keep them all for yourself. Yours. We’ve had people bring whole spreads of snacks to share with their group and others, or just for themselves, and we’ve got people bringing nothing at all. It’s really just a personal choice.

Try not to splash your friends/neighbors

In a minute you just paint and sip and have a great old time. Next, you’ll notice small colored spots on your canvas that you didn’t place there. Or worse, you realize you’ve just splattered your neighbor’s canvas with whatever paint you just used!

Okay, so it’s not a YUUUUUUUGE deal. And yes, you can paint over the small splashes. But it can be a bit uncomfortable. The bottom line is that in a busy paint and sip we might have 30 painters just painting and having a great time, but we have to sit pretty close together. So remember to keep your brush in check as you paint those gorgeous brush strokes onto your canvas.

Where shall we sit?

Sitting can be a crazy thing over a color and a sip. Sometimes people come by themselves. Other times they bring a friend, or three, or five. Then sitting can become difficult. We usually tell our single friends to try and sit down with someone. This helps keep open spaces for groups and couples without having to ask people to play music chairs so everyone can sit with the group they came with. We always feel bad when we have to ask people to move, but we’ve found that everyone is generally very understanding.

As an individual, if you try to sit next to someone, they could become your new best friend. We have actually experienced this. People come down, sit next to each other, chat, share a few laughs and the next thing you know they’re going out to dinner together afterwards. It’s one of our favorite things to happen at an Uncorked Inspiration event.

Speaking of coming with friends, it’s definitely okay to reserve seats for them. We recommend grabbing the number of aprons you need and draping them over the stools you need to store. Simple peesy happy little treesies.

Okay, so yeah, that’s kind of a touchy subject. We know traffic sucks sometimes. Finding a parking space can be a hassle. Or sometimes the damn kids won’t listen to the babysitter and you’re stuck at home for a few minutes while you call for backup. We really get it, and most of the time I can get people to engage with the image if we’re forced to start without them. The one thing we ask is that if you have a bit of drive, try to plan ahead. We love to start on time because it’s more about being considerate of our friends who are painting there than it is about us.

What if you don’t want to use our brushes?

If you then definitely have some of your own awesome brushes, be sure to bring them with you. You can even bring palette knives and paints if you like. Our friend and local artist Mitch Steimers does this all the time. We’re quite “cas” (is that how you spell it?), as Andrea likes to say, and as we all know there aren’t that many rules when it comes to painting or making art. That’s why we’re also happy when people bring their own ideas to our events and paint their own pictures.

are you as extroverted as me?

Big! Socializing is totally acceptable. We also think it’s cool when our friends get up, chat with other friends, walk around the tables to look at everyone’s pictures, compliment others on their pictures and just have fun.

Awe you are so cute. I assume you mean money and not really good advice? I mean I take both. Jokes aside, tipping the artist at our paint and sip events is totally unnecessary. That’s not to say it’s not outrageous or unacceptable. It’s just that you paid for your ticket, wine and gas to come down. We’re perfectly fine with that. That’s why we don’t set up a tip jar. (I like $20 btw. IJS).

Clean up your personal space after the event

OK, we get it. Some of you have told us that all you have to do is clean up your area or you’ll feel weird. We won’t try to attack you and dissuade you, but remember, this event was your time to relax, socialize, have fun, have some drinks and paint a cool painting. You paid us for that experience, and part of that experience is not having to clean up your space. So like I tell everyone, let me clean up your area. Let me take down your easel. Let me put a lid on your painting and put your empties in the recycling bin. i love doing it It’s the most glamorous part of the paint and sip business! Also, it’s very rare to see a group of women watching a man clean up something.

The paint and sip experience is very light on foot, but still it’s nice to know what to expect. This is especially true if you are coordinating a large group. Or when you’re trying to convince your boss to schedule your department for a paint-and-sip team-building day. Paint and sip events combine a professionally led painting class with a high-energy environment and a few drinks. Pinot’s Palette Studios are either BYOB or have bars built in. Wine is the most popular drink of choice, but many of our guests opt for beer, spirits or soda. Colour. Drink. Have fun. As long as you do at least two of the three, you’re in good shape.

Here’s what you can expect: YOU DON’T HAVE TO BRING ANYTHING. Tuition is pre-paid and we provide 100% of your art supplies, gowns, wine glasses, corkscrews and even ice buckets so you don’t have to show anything with everything on! Part of the fun of painting and drinking is that you can eat while you paint, so most groups show up with a few nibbles. There’s usually no limit to what you can and can’t bring to eat…although we recommend leaving the tuna at home. Check your local studio’s food and beverage policy to find out if it’s a BYOB or bar and whether or not they serve their own snacks. THERE IS A COLOR-FREE PLACE FOR YOUR FOOD AND DRINKS. Don’t worry about paint dripping onto your hummus plate! Your studio will have a counter or table to place food, bottles, plates, etc. Your painting table will have enough space for wine glasses and snack plates, and people will stand up and walk back for seconds throughout the lesson. Your instructor will also give you breaks in between so you can finish without missing a brushstroke. THESE ARE ADULT PAINTING CLASSES. The overwhelming majority of our participants are over 25 years old. Painters must be at least 13 years old in most locations to take a course and we do not allow unaccompanied minors. Our studios are designed as fresh, creative spaces for adults to have a drink and relax. Check your local studio’s website for information on age guidelines. CLASSES ARE 2-3 HOURS LONG. The length of the lesson depends on the painting your studio chooses. Plan a whole evening! IT’S NICE TO SHOW 30 MINUTES EARLY. Most painters show up early to prepare their food and drinks and enjoy a little downtime with their friends before painting officially begins. We start on time! IT’S SUPER EASY TO HEAR OUR ARTISTS INSTRUCTIONS. You don’t need to know anything about painting before you show up. Our teachers will explain everything you need to know, from mixing paints to which brush strokes to use. Would you like to customize your painting? They will help you with that too. Our studios are designed with some details taken into account such as: B. that the painting room is kept small and intimate and that the voices of our teachers can be heard over music and chatter. We promise to make it easy to hear and follow our artists’ directions.

5 tips for throwing an online painting party

To help you get the most out of your Paint an Gogh experience, we’ve put together some helpful tips to help you take your online paint party to the next level.

1. Choose your artwork

With so many great pieces to choose from, this could be the hardest part of planning your event. Luckily, we’ve also made the selection process fun and easy.

You can browse our entire art collection in our gallery, which includes recent customer reviews alongside each print. Simply click on an image to view details about the artwork, view pricing options, or learn more about the art teacher featured in our on-demand video tutorial.

Once you’ve landed on an image, let your attendees choose a painting from our catalog and order their own studio or essentials kit. Everyone will receive their kits with the art materials in 3 to 5 days.

2. Choose a date, time and virtual platform

Don’t forget to choose a date and time that works for your group. Once you’ve agreed on a date, it’s time to decide how you want to meet.

This can seem overwhelming at first, but there are many different options available to you. For a smaller gathering, an app like FaceTime might be ideal. For larger groups, you can use a more sophisticated platform like Zoom. Is it for a corporate event? Maybe Microsoft Teams is more your speed.

3. Prepare in advance

Ensure a smooth process by preparing in advance. That means having cups of water and paper towels on hand. You can minimize the risk of spills by reusing the brown canvas sheet included in your kit as a temporary tablecloth. Just throw it in the trash when you’re done.

4. Make the most of our video tutorial

Our video tutorials will be sent via email link. If your entire group is painting the same piece of art, one participant can share the tutorial using the screen sharing feature.

Pro tip: see if your screen sharing technology allows you to optimize video playback. If you use Zoom, check out this helpful article on the subject.

Don’t you use the same painting? That’s okay too! Each participant can watch the tutorial on a separate internet-connected device (smartphone, computer, tablet, Apple TV, Chromecast, etc.) while you talk to each other.

5. Personalize your event

Make this event your own with some personal touches and have lots of fun! As you will find here, each tutorial has built in pauses for the paint to dry and our tutorials can be paused as needed. This provides the perfect opportunity for wine tasting, ice breaking, or sharing the progress of your masterpieces. Here are some suggested icebreaker activities:

– Guess Who: Ask a pre-meeting poll question (e.g., proudest childhood achievement) and let attendees guess who owns the answer.

– Virtual Bingo: Pick 3 things that often happen during a virtual meeting. The first to identify all 3 wins!

– Group Mad Lib: Have a participant start a prompt for a story and each participant should add something to the story.

6. Share your masterpieces with each other

Saving the best for last – share your masterpieces with each other and with us (tag @paintingtogogh). You can even choose some winners (most artistic, most abstract) at the end for even more fun!
