Skirting Boards Coming Away From The Wall
Re: Baseboards are coming off the wall
There are 2 methods you can use.
1st is to fasten back into the cleats. Normally you will try to fasten the baseboard around the middle, so the only way to achieve this with most baseboards is to fasten in the studs. If you had a small skirting board and it sat on the top rather than the floor then you can pick up the bottom but for anything larger than 67mm or if it sits on the floor or carpet I would definitely put it on aim the studs.
The second method is to apply liquid nail to the skirting board. You’ll still need to pin the skirting board to the gyprock to hold it back while the glue dries, but once it’s in place you’ll destroy your gyprock if you ever need to remove it.
If you just nail the gyprock without liquid nails, it will eventually make its way free.
I hope it helps.
Skirting boards cracking away from wall

Hi,
I know similar questions have been asked about this, but I would like some advice on this particular issue.
About 3 months ago I installed laminate flooring in our dining room and hallway, there is a concrete subfloor and I used the underlay with the built in vapor barrier. The floor is fine, but the baseboards on two walls come off the wall easily causing the paint to crack. The cracks range from very thin hairline cracks to around 3mm wide areas, this happened mainly on one outer wall where the radiator is mounted and also in some small spots on the other outer wall. Both outer walls have grass against them. The house is about 11 years old.
Why would this have happened after the soil change, I assume it has something to do with moisture? But since I used the recommended pad etc, I’m a bit pissed. Is it something I need to worry about or can I just fill it in? There are no other obvious signs of moisture and the skirting board and wall are completely dry to the touch.
advice much appreciated.
Tom
Skirting board started to warp and come away from the wall
Hello, since you have a concrete floor I would normally think that it is rising damp rising through the floor causing the damp to rise and migrate into the wall causing it to spread to your baseboard , but if you only have a solid 9 inch wall or a cavity wall, it could also come from the wall letting moisture seep through, which is also a possibility if you have a crack in the wall caused by movement etc.
It sounds like you’ll need to call in a wet firm to either chip off, inspect, and reattach the infected area of the wall with a wet treatment. Normally they would get past the wall to a height of 1.5 meters and a width of 400 meters last seen area that is infected. If it’s the bottom, it would either have to be shot up or done right with Pacific materials. But be sure to take the baseboard off and discard it as it is infected otherwise it might spread elsewhere, hope this helps.
